Does anyone know how to split/archive an sms thread (or perhaps start a new thread for my wife, keeping the old one). I have imported all my sms from my Windows Mobile using Sprite Migrate (cool free beta software).
My wifes thread has 4k sms messages, and takes a few seconds to load, does anyone know if I can split the thread into chucks? It would be cool if they were split by date.
Does anyone know if I could backup all sms using some tool, and modify the file to split the sms, and re import?
I own MyBackupPro, does anyone know if these file are easily manipulated?
Thanks
looks like nobody can help you. afaik these things are stored in sqlite databases, maybe you can look into that. my layman's guess would be that the first problem is to seperate the two threads, maybe you need to create a contact WIFE2 or smthng, and alter the number in the database for a few (thousand) sms.
btw, WTF? i once tried to restore a backup of my sms with ~35 msgs in the largest thread, made the sms app FC... yesterday i had to delete a thread with 32 apps because it always showed me one unread in the summary, but all read in the thread...

Ok so I install the latest Sprint rom on my Mogul. It works perfectly. I dont use HTC today plugs so I have no memory leaks. After 11 hours I still have 20mb of memory left. The phone runs stable. No freezes. I use Spb mods for all my other needs and sirius radio, tcmp, flash bundle, opera mini for all my apps and needs. I run Slingbox and Orb to connect to my home PC media. I have zero problems with the phone so far.
The reason for my post is I was wondering what the benifit to using 6.1 would be. I dont have memory problems. All of the menues work the way I need them ect.. As far as I can tell 6.1 boasts better memory management? I realy cant find any claims to fame on the MS sites for it.
Any info is a big help ty much!
If you use SMS a lot, the new threaded SMS client is MUCH better in 6.1
Question about the threaded SMS. If I backup my sms and load it back in after loading DCD's rom, will it still be there with the new SMS program? Basically, I want to keep my SMSs just like I keep my emails. Does the SMS program use the same database to store them? Will I be able to view the old ones in threaded style? Also, does it distiguish between conversations or does it just thread all the sms between you and said individual?
Also, here's one thing I found talking about 6.1 advantages.

The only negative I've found is that WM 6.1's PIE seems to take quite a bit longer to "render" webpages.

After reading those ppl's comments, I clearly realize that most people are oblivious of the capabilities of WM phones. Also, the 2nd guy says he wishes he could get WM 6.1 on his XV6800. I want to tell him that he can, but that would make me more of a dork.
hahah!! i thought the same thing about that guy and his 6800! hahahaha

Yes, if you use PIM Backup to backup your SMS, when restored with WM6.1, it will restore it as threaded. It distinguishes the conversations. It will restore email like normal.

It does not distinguish the conversations in the way that Poke_N_PDA asked. Every interaction between me and my brother, for example, gets put into the same thread. We might not send messages for a week, but then once we do, it creates the messages in the same thread as our previous messages. You end up having a single thread for each contact you correspond with by text message.

I don't think I have a problem with that. It would be nice to be able to divide it yourself and start new conversations, but I can live without it.
Also, can you still view and look through messages individually like you could in 6.0? It would be really nice if they just set it up as a view option to where you could select different styles.
I used PIM Backup to backp my text messages, but it is ridiculously outdated at this point and development seems to have stopped forever ago... and appears to have a major flaw, it doesn't save threaded messages.
Whenever I do a restore, not only does my pone remain unresponsive for practically a day after the restore finishes as it gets it's bearings.... but the messages only show my side of the conversation, even though it appears to have restored both sides (I think their responses come before the very first reply of mine).
So first of all before I even find a better backup tool, I first need a way to re-organize and re-thread my messages. Is there any way to do this?
And of course, what (preferably free) backup tool would you recommend? Since I am experimenting with different roms, I just want my contacts, call logs, text logs, etc to be backed up, not my settings or apps or anything like that.
resco backup, but it's not free
use Microsoft Myphone. It's free, it's easy, it's auto-scheduled, viewable from the internet using any web browser, works on any wm phone and works great even if you're using a ROM.
Well, first of all I want to know if there is any way to fix this unthreaded messages issue.
And doesn't MyPhone just sync contacts and e-mails? I want all my of call and text logs saved too.
myphone syncs text messages.
can also backup mydocument folder and others as well.
I have been using it since it came out.
Works great. My syncs every morning at 4am.
Hi guys
does anyone know some kind of program that would export SMS and MMS to excel format?
Do you want the header data or ALL data? In other words do you want the Who, Date/Time, and the contents of the text, or do you just want the Who/date/time info.
who/date/time/sms or mms
Ok so not terribly concerned with the contents of the text just that one was sent/received and if it was sms/mms right....
Let me do some looking/thinking...
I hope you know some useful software .
Not sure if direct linking is allowed so just fix the spaces I entered below or do a market search for any kind of sms/mms backup. I listed a couple I have used or know of.
SMS Backup +
sms backup & restore
I've not looked at this one but try it it looks like it will do exactly what you want..
w w w.androidzoom. com/android_applications/tools/excel-backup_muxu_download.html
I have used this one and did not even know you could read the backup data in excel.. WOW Learned something new!
h t t p s://market.android. com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
I am looking into my gmail account to see if the data backed up to it can be exported/imported to excel format since I have 3+ years worth of texts stored there form the backup programs. If we could run the program and then simply take the data directly from our gmail label that would be nice.
Ye i was thinking about excel backup too but i couldn't find it for free anywhere :/.
So no one know of one program that can save mms and sms threads?
What a **** os. Even Nokia has this omg.

Hey folks.
I recently discovered a great app named "SMS Backup & Restore" which I now happen to be the owner of the PRO version. Things is, that the backup works fine, but upon restoring, messages seem to get restore the wrong order - most of the messages are in the same thread, but completely mixed up. And I don't miss a few, I miss a lot.
The FAQ of the developer says that osme SMS cannot be backed up nor restored since it currently does not support MMS messages. But I'm extremely sure that most messages are just SMS. Did such happen to any of you, too? How to resolve this? And could that be dou to the use of GoSMS Pro which I use as my phone messaging app?
Any help is very much appreciated.

That is the only app I use for sms backup & restore since I have android phone. Never had any problems, except when on restore, threads (not messages) are not sorted in order in which I backed them up. Ofc, I just sort them by "most recent" in messages app. I used Handcent sometimes, but never had problems with dissapearing messages. Backup app and messaging app use xml, which is stored on phone, so I don't think it matters which one messaging app you use.

Thanks for helping, PROleev. Is there a way to clean up the XML-File I have? It contains multiple messages and upon restoring, it does not delete the duplicates although I enabled the option in the program. Furthermore, it seems that it saved messages with the completely wrong time. Therefore, restoring the messages results in a mess I don't know how to resolve.. except for to delete everything.

You're welcome.
Here is the app for duplicate messages, and it should help you (I didn't try it, but users say that it does its job). It is slow if you have a couple of thousands messages. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10377014&postcount=1
I have to make a correction..mesagge applications read from data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db (database file), but they save messages as .xml which you can open in any xml viewer or MS Excel..

I have a Samsung Galaxy Prevail the model number is SPH-M820-BST and I am having some serious problems with my phones ability to copy SMS text messages to my computer or send them to my e-mail. I am having some problems with my land lord and I am trying to get a record of the text messages that she sent me but they are not copying properly, all of the messages copy except for a couple of really long important ones that she sent.
These are the programs that I have tried so far, SMS to text, Super Backup, SMS Backup+ (e-mailed to my gmail), SMS backup & restore. All of these programs have the exact same problem where they copy most of my texts except for a couple of the same really long ones that she sent. One thing I noticed is that for some reason my text messages are usually limited to 200 max per contact but for her its now at 207.
These text messages are really important for me to get my security deposit back and chances are I'm going to have to use them in small claims. I've tried everything to no avail, maybe I should use screen capture software? Or maybe even put my phone into a photo copy machine?
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.
Does anyone know of any screen capture software I could use?
