Removing Cooked-in dialer - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Hello,
I've got a great rom that I am using - and am trying to figure out if I can modify the dialer that's built in.
I posted question here, since I figure it's generic enough that people would want to update/uninstall dialers to use their preferred one.
Is this possible? Or only if the ROM itself lists the dialer in the remove programs screen. I'm guessing this only happens if the chef cooked like that.
If it matters - the Rom is Tai's v4. Everything else is fantastic, but while he works on v5, I kinda need a better dialer. Call log, delay between dialing, and lack of smartdial almost forces me to run a different rom. would rather fix the dialer, if that's easy enough to do.
Thanks!

Working Dialer Skins for Cing8525, Latest Cing Rom...

I just spent the last hour and a half or so reading various threads about updating the Dialer Skins on the Hermes, and I'm now quite confused. each one seems to have its drawbacks, such as things not working afterwards.
What I need is a Dialer Skin with big buttons, that has ALL THE FUNCTIONALITY of the factory dialer skin. I don't want ANYTHING missing, broken, etc.
Does this exist? I'm running the latest Cingular rom (the one dated 4/9/07) from htc's website. my phone is not cid nor sim unlocked; I don't want to void my warranty. The 8525 doesn't have the front video camera, so I don't need the video button.
But I really need a dialer skin that works as the factory does, with all the functionality (Smart dial, history, PTT(?), etc.). Dark colors, vista look, clear buttons etc. would be nice, but not required. All that I require is Big, one finger buttons and ALL functionality working properly.
Can someone please point me in the right direction? I've done due dilligence in reading and searching threads and the wiki.
Thanks in advance!

Try this link. There are many dialpad skins listed. Pick one and give it a try. They are uninstallable so if you don't like it, just uninstall it.
http://www.paulya.com/dialerskins.htm
Thanks for the link.
I am also confused!
I looked at the above recommended website and;
1. I do not know how to remove the "Etan dialer" (I assume this is the skin that Cingular/AT&T has supplied with the 8525?
2. Are the skins that I see displaying larger numbers than the default?
PLEASE chime in and help us!

VZW Dialer/Lag/Conference Call Questions

First off, I have already reverted back to the windows mobile dialer in order to stop the ringtone lag that comes with the touchflo one. My problem is that I tried installing a few different dialers and a couple of them dont show up/work. For example, the one from Godzson looks really great in the screenshots, but I cant get it to show up on my phone. Do i need to reenable the touchflo one in order for that to happen? Would I still have the lag that is apparent with the touchflo one or will Godzson's dialer remove that? Also, I have tried the vga version of the touchflo2d dialer. This showed up and looked great, but I wasnt able to see the numbers I was dialing if I tried to do a conference call. It is important that I can see the numbers just in case I accidentally miss dial and need to make a change. So I guess I am asking for help choosing a dialer or at least help getting some of the dialers I have tried working like they should.
I am also looking for one that I can add in a party when they call. I havent been able to figure out how to do that in the windows mobile dialer and would like to know if it is an option. Essentially, if I am already on the phone with someone and I get an incoming call, I would like to be able to connect the two if I please. I know how to set up a conference call if I call both parties myself, but I would like the option to add someone into a call if they were to call me. Hopefully that makes sense.
So is there any dialer that doesnt have the lag, can add in additional parties, lets you see the number when you type it in for a conference call, and looks nice?
On a side note as a gripe, can anyone use the send key on your phone to set up a conference call? I can do it if I use the key on the touch screen, but not if I press the actual key on my phone. Its a minor concern, but its a weird problem that I have noticed.
Thanks for all of your help and time. This was a long post to read.
I have also tried the PhonEx dialer and wasnt able to use the hold button. Looks like that one is out . Are there any other suggestions?
I've tried many dialers and think I'm staying with PhonEx. I do not seem right the way it is being promoted(post the link and the videos to get it free...) and hence being banned... But I must say its a good piece of software. It is light, thumb oriented, no lag, and it completely replaces the WM dialer (others just add a dial pad). This one even allows you to use the big button keypad during calls. You can also manage(delete/add) your contacts from just there easier. I also like how it presents its four sections: Favorites, Call list, Contacts and Dialpad, giving the same importance to all and allowing to predefine any of them as the main screen for the phone (and not just the classical dialpad). I see also a "Conference" option but not tried that yet.

So very new to custom roms..

hi guys,
Please bear with me, i am very inexperienced to this. I have a Sprint TP & while I dont hate it, some things really annoy me. Im not sure if I need a custom rom or just a few tweaks & clean up the exisiting software, hopefully you can help.
THINGS I HATE:
Screen Lag from portrait to landscape. Sometimes I have to open & shut the phone 5 x's & take out the stylus before it switches. & general TF3D lag.
Constant notifications of messages being sent!
Not having month calender view be default.
A better way to lock keys rather than having to punch in #'s (the pre has a nice lock feature)
Battery life.
Flash Support?
A straigt up contacts button without having to load my fav, then hit a button, then load.
If some1 could point me in the right direction that would be cool. Ive read a bit & a custom rom seems a little scary, so Im nervous to do anything that complex.
THANKS!
Aight I'll bite. The screen lag your S.O.L. without changing to a custom ROM. You can try some of the reg hacks but I never found anyone them to be worth it on the stock rom.
You can change the message sent notifications in the reg or you can find a cab some where. (Searching helps) but most custom roms already have this.
Calender view is an easy one just open the calender and hit menu>tools>options and change start in to month view.
Battery, again custom rom.
Flash support. its there, again searching helps.
I noticed a huge performance and battery life increase when I quit using TF3d and 6.5 default for the today screen on any rom. You can find all those settings when you hit start>settings>today
hope that gets you started. has far which custom rom to start out with. MightyMike, Juicy, and, SSS are good starts.
Overall, do your homework, get your **** straight and go to town. It can be fun trying new software and roms on your phone and all the info is here and on ppcgeeks.
Thanks for the help. Ive read a few things here & there, but it does get confusing & i just dont want to brick my phone, that is why i am tentative about custom roms... I found a new browser for flash support (skyfire) but it looks like crap. Maybe over the weekend i can read up on the custom roms you suggested. Thanks again.
Disable SMS Sent Notification
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings] Set SMSNoSentMsg to 1
I'm new too. There's lots of good stuff up in the Raphael Wiki to get started with.
so, ive seen this before
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settin gs] Set SMSNoSentMsg to 1
Where is that exactly?
& i was just over @ pcgeeks, is seems you can put the stock rom onto your phone if needed. Is this true? Would you be able to bring it in for service if you do that? or would they be able to find out you flashed it?
You can flash the stock rom back onto the phone. Just remember to relock it as the last step.

if you see anything with HKEY or HKLM it is referring to a registry edit. To do any of registry edits you need a registry editor such as (but not limited to) PHM or Resco explorer. These are free .cab files that can be downloaded automaticly to your phone.
What they are saying at PPC is that if you flash any roms to your phones and something happens to it or you need to take it in for repair you HAVE to change it back (or flash it back) to its original operating system...you know the laggy nonresponsiveness lol. Otherwise you run the risk of never being able to buy a phone from that company again and I dont know what else but I keep imagining public castration...which is extremly scary to me <_>
As far as battery life etc, there are some tweaks for the battery life and certain ROMS actually save battery life. There are also some programs that save battery life as well.
Theres a locking function called JMZ lockscreen that is included in some roms...personally I dont use it but then again its user preference.
I would recommend if you are wanting to change your phone a little. Look into how to unlock your phone so you can start flashing roms. The initial process takes a little bit of time, but its like riding a bike everything takes time. feel free to email me if you want and have any questions and Ill do my best to help you out.
*edit* One last thing that is CRUCIALLY important. When you go to flash a rom if you are a CDMA (verizon, etc) carrier do NOT try to install a GSM (att, etc) rom on your phone or you will kill it.
I will definatley be reading up on this stuff this weekend. I cant stand typing messages sideways anymore. Thanks for your help. Im sure Ill be posting a few more questions soon!

[Q] Dialer with predictive Contacts filter

Ok, so I am starting a new thread as I didn't find any answer, neither have received a reply previously in other threads (Specific roms threads)
In custom roms such as Cyanogen's and [email protected]'s - no Sense roms - the Dialer is very basic.
Actually, it is impossible to get a contact filtering when entering numbers (what T9 does in SMS/Messages apps... Ok, I don't know how to explain that in a comprehensive sentence, but I hope you get it)
I played with a rom that a friend of mine installed on his Galaxy S, and the Dialer is pretty much the same, such as Google phones with basic android software, no additional features,... But that one has the predictive thing....
Is there a way to implement this feature within the phone (Dialer) apk of custom roms?
Thank you guys for ... Well, first, trying to understand what I wrote, ... and then for your answers!
Try Dialer One
take phone dialer
Thank you guys, for answering.
I know Dialer One, but don't like it, ... Have to discover TAKEPhONE dialer...
However, I wanted to know if it was possible to add the feature in the original phone application for Legend, as it seems to be implemented in the dialer from the custom rom for Galaxy S... (I assume it is...)
Because that app, the original phone app above mentioned, is pretty much the exact same app than the one for our Legend, except it has the T9 filter feature.
Thank you guys, anyway !!!
thank you for your effort

[Q] auto namesearch missing on ROMS

recently upgraded from stock Hero 2.1 to Elelinux7.1.0 mod (android 2.3)
it was good but too laggy on "Angry birds" ;-) so i tried Fusion!ROM 2.2 and eventually settled on Elelinux 6.2
One thing i noticed about all of these ROMS was I'd lost some functionality on the phone app
on 2.1 i used to be able to start typing a persons name using alpha characters on the phone number pad and it would resolve to the best matches. much faster than scrolling through a contacts list
so if fro example i type 7838.... it would be looking for number beginning 7838 but also suggesting any contacts called "Steve" because of the alpha characters on those keys.
My friend's stock Samsung galaxy S running android 2.2 does this so i know it's not something that's been removed in later versions
Non of these new ROMS seems to do this. Has this functionality been removed from the underlying (Cyanogen ?) build or am i missing something obvious and the autosearch needs to be switched on in the settings somewhere.
(or can anyone suggest a Froyo ROM that does have this functionality please because i really miss it ?)
cheers
Glen
That feature was the HTC dialer.
Try GoContacts or Dialerone from the Market.
Brilliant, thanks !
i guess Samsung must also have their own version that doe the same
Cheers
Glen
I find touch pal dialer is the least laggy alternative dialer. why stock doesnt include this search function is beyond me.
thanks, i tried a few different ones and that's the app i settled on too.
It's really good as it does "fuzzy" searches not just what the name you are looking for begins with
Although I've got it on my main screen and associated it with the physical phone button it would be good if i could drop it onto the bottom task bar in place of the stock phone dialer.
Anyone know how to do that ?
