Ok well I had a unlocked 8125 and I stumbled across a new 8525 for 150, so I picked that up... Now I should be getting it tomorrow and my question is this...
I'm assuming I fall under the post April category(being brand new) with the difficult SIM unlocking procedure... Now I'm not really in to switching around my carrier, I have AT&T its a AT&T branded phone and I'm fine with that... the only thing I really care about is being able to flash different OS roms and whatnot.
So do I just run the auto unlocker and only select CID unlock??
I've been trying to read and find out if the auto unlocker CID option will still work for post April units but I haven't been able to find the response yet.
Or am I totally in left field on this??? Do I need both CID and SIM unlocked to do OS rom flashes??
I acquired the 8125 already unlocked and those tend to be easier to do stuff to than these, or I'm just not reading the right thread.
Any info is appreciated.
I will not be turning the unit on till I hear a response from you guys. Worse case I just wont let the customization complete.

You only need to do CID for that purpose. You are correct. Of course, doing SIM won't hurt you, but you only NEED CID.
Ok so when I get this phone... turn it on, do touch screen thing, do other crap, and CANCEL the customization with a soft reboot??? and then I can sim unlock it?
What sim unlocker do I use and whats the best radio for my location? Phone will actually be delivered today so this is why I'm asking.
Wait I think I got it... Turn on phone... Reboot before customization...
Run AUTO_Unlock_v3a once connected, after 1.16 radio installed then run Herm_Unlock_v3.exe to unlock it and once that is done run SoftBank_1.33.761.4_Extrom to remove the bootloader update.exe and then I can hard reboot without problems...

I just run olipro 2.10 hardspl v7 and then I can flash any rom and radio I wish.
Yes but mine is a post April release phone which aparently has a radio bootloader update to 0182 which then makes the Radio rom un updatable, or impossible to unlock the sim.
Unless I dont need the Sim unlocked to do radio updates... but the more I read leads me to believe I wont be able to update the radio if I let the 0182 radio bootloader update run.
OR unless I'm completely retarded and this doesnt apply to the AT&T 8525.... I cant really find that on here.

Yeah I think I'm retarded and read too far into this... I don't think the AT&T 8525's have this Radio Bootloader update thingy thats coming on the SoftBank phones...
Well all is good... fired the phone up, used it for all of 20 min before I used the auto unlocker on it unlocked CID and SIM, and then flashed it with VP3G WM6 rom, and the newest 1.54 radio... all is good so far.
Ok, I think I'm still at 1.04 IPL and 1.40 SPL, Olipro, is it worth it for me to install the Hard SPL v7 update??
IPL and SPL stuff on these phones are slightly more confusing than on the older 8125's
Also how do you get to the 3 color boot loader screen manually?
I did a HTC WM6 flash, wasnt very impressed and went back to the vp3G setup... Also is the 1.54.07 radio any good... the HTC rom put me down to 1.48 and since the 1.54 takes 20 min to upload I may leave it as is right now.

I would update to the latest HardSPLv7. Oli makes it better every time - more protection.
1.54 is an AT&T release, so it is probably better than 1.48. I think 1.50 was also an AT&T release, but you can use it and see if it works. The biggest difference usually seems to be battery.
Regarding putting into bootloader screen, I don't have my phone on front of me, but I am sure it is in the wiki. It is a right side button, a left side button and the press the reset hole on the bottom. I think it is the bottom side buttons - OK, PTT and the reset hole. (I think)
Hey guys I'm a newbie... I was playing around and trying to flash a new rom onto my wizard/8125. The program stopped responding on my PC so I had to restart it. Now my phone is stuck in the tricolor boot screen. It says USB is connected but activesync won't recognize it.

The reason activesync won't recognize it is because the activesync program isn't installed on your device, provided the windows mobile can't start. At the boot screen, you can still flash the device. However, I wouldn't play around with flashing your 8125 unless you know what you're doing; there's a chance that you could turn your phone into a brick.
Try flashing it with the Wizard Love rom found here.
You might need the English Update Utility files found here.
Then, if your phone is CID locked, you can use the G4 SoftSPL from this post to flash it with the G4 safe rom of your choice. My 8125 would often freeze at 99% in the update process, but flashing first with Wizard Love would do the trick.

I reached this stage after sucessfully installing hardspl and CID_unlocking and then tried to upgade to WM6 and failed to do a hard reset instead remove battery ( I know very stupid )

You have a G4, and its CID Locked. You'll need to flash the Wizard_Love rom - it will install sucessfully on G4 Cid Locked - and then cid unlock it, before trying to install any other ROM. You need to be carefull not to flash rom's with IPL/SPL information, that includes official ones from T-Mobile!
My ELF (Soft Black) is also stuck in the tri-color screen after trying to flash it.

Rabbid, if yours is a Wizard G4, install the Wizard Love ROM as dferreira suggested. If you don't know, check sticky posts on how to ID your phone.
I had the same problem, stuck at the loader screen, because I forgot to soft-unlock my phone.
That's the last time I reflash my phone at 2 AM, after being up since 6AM the previous day

I had the same problem (tricolor screen), but I flashed my Qtek A9100 and it came again! (I´m so happy)

I wanted to use the Slim Edition of WM6.1 and I have downloaded the zip( or rar) but what do I need to do next. I thought I knew about the flash process because I had experience flashing with GBA and SP but apparently I know nothing.
What I originally did was run the hard-spl G4 program but when the screen popped up to install a ruu ( or the os i gussed) I closed out of it and instead opened the boot loader program that was located in the Slim Edition Folder. I lost connection to my g4 at the white screen...naturally panicked for 30 mins and then realized the soft reset button and did the manual boot loader screen. I then read this forum about the love wizard so just installed it out of fear to try the slim version again.
Also, the XDA Developer process says that the HardSPl process unlocks both SIM and CID is that incorrect? And do I need to be concerned with downloading Radios for my g4 model? Any help or flame would be appreciated at this point. Thanks.

Well,as you mentioned,its a G4 phone,it cannot be CID unlocked completely like a G3 device,however,it can be upgraded to wm6 with 'SoftSPL' or 'HardSPL',if you apply "hardSPL' it'll semi CID unlock the phone by flashing a patched IPL/SPL to the phone to trick it to think its CID unlocked temporarily,but it'll stay CID unlocked and "HardSPL' as long as you intentionally don't remove it and you can flash any wm6 or wm6.1 Rom on it. But always be warned that don't ever flash any Rom which have IPL/SPL included in it,it'll 'Brick' the phone.
Did you apply 'HardSPL' successfully ? what IPL/SPL... ? it displays at present.
Secondly,if you didn't have any signal quality or call missing problem with your present Radio Rom installed,then there's no need to upgrade.Some custom build wm6 or 6.1 Roms,do already include updated Radio Roms,which get flashed durinf Rom (OS) upgrade.

I don't know what all happened to be honest. When I was using the Hardlsp G4 program after I got the white screen I thought I would cancel the rom that it wanted to install and install the Slim Edition. I was thinking that it was installing an OS and I wanted to substitute it for WM6.1 Slim edition I didn't know that I was cancelling out of the WM6 rom softspl . So to be honest I though I just Hardslp it but I didn't use the softslp which comes with the temporary CID unlock? Maybe that sounds right lol.
Regardless, Now I'm tring to figure out what to do obviously this phone works with T-mobile only and so I thought I could CID Unlock it and SIM unlock it with that program and now I'm thinking i'm screwed lol.
If I followed the HARDSLP directions again to the letter would I get the phone temerporarly CID & SIM unlocked so I can use it or have I messed it up to much? Oh, and the phone seems to be getting a signal although I can't call anyone but the bars are showing beside the indicator.

Well, with your present IPL/SPL 2.25.0001,its not HardSPL,as you say it didn't complete and you closed it,therefore,its still with its original official bootloaders (IPL/SPL),no harm is done yet.
Now,if you wish to upgrade the phone to wm6,either you can do it with SoftSPL, which'll just temporarily trick the phone into CID unlock and flash the rom,but it'll revert back to CID locked status after the reboot of the phone and if you wish to replace the rom,you'll again have to apply SoftSPL again.Every time you want to change roms,you'll have to apply SoftSPL,but if you apply HardSPL once,it'll remain HardSPL and temporarily tricked into CID unlocked status till you don't remove it.You don't have to apply HardSPL again and again to flash roms,its possible to flash roms easily.but never flash a rom which contains IPL/SPL in it even the official Rom in HardSPL status.If ever you wish to revert back to official rom,first remove the HardSPL and flash the official Bootloaders (IPL/SPL) and then flash the official Rom.

Yup! First apply 'HardSPL' correctly,read the HardSPL thread carefully understand the method and do it correctly and let it complete,the screen will certainly go white,don't be afraid,its the essential part, it'll only take a minute or so,if it doesn't go white,then consider something is not correct ,after successful application of HardSPL,the phone will reboot and IPL will be 2.21.0001 and the SPL is 2.21.olip,it confirms the successful application of HardSPL.Now its ready to flash any wm6 or 6.1 rom,just hook up the phone and run the RUU in the rom,it'll start to upgrade
Well,regarding SIM unlock with lokiwiz03,you shud do it before HardSPL its much recommended.HardSPL will only flash the patched IPL/SPL which let your device think it has SuperCID (aka CID unlocked) but doesn't SIM unlock,for SIM unlock you have to use lokiwiz03 and generate a SIM unlocking code which you'll insert when using another SIM.

All I know is when I run Lokiwiz it says it can't copy files and it might be inuse. So if there is a better way of unlocking or a way of unlocking the sim after i do the hardslp i'm up for it haha whatever works the best. I think it says it can't find the C:/windows/itsutils.dll and then it says it can't save a certian bat file because it doesn't exsit.

Also I'm stuck in the Bootloader screen? Should I use the wizard love rom again and then when it finishes use the slimedition with muns ruu?

Your phone is still running wizard_love_rom,it didn't upgrade to slimEdition,perhaps its still not correctly with HardSPL patched IPL/SPL,did you get it HardSPL ?
Well, everything else works fine. I think I soft flashed my phone back when I messed up and so it reset the loader screen with the ipl spl info and then when I hard Slp over top of it the hardslp just didn't remove the screen. It says all the information that it should it just has that love picture on it that is kinda emberresing but I'll live with it to have a working phone and not a shinny brick.

I have a 8125 G4 sim unlocked w lokiwiz and a flashed WMSE5_rev4 with soft spl, well the problem that i have now is that i recentley tried to flash a new wm6 rom without hard spl ( yeah i know stupid) And now i am stuck on tri color boatloader screen no matter if i turn it off or not still goes back to the same thing. and yes the rom that i was flashing was g safe, i think were i messed up is not CID unlocking it with hard spl?when i tried to flash the new rom it went all the way to 100% and then gave error after that. NO activesync connection right now

Ok this is where im at i have tried to flash other roms, NOTHING. the phone is cycling between charging(when on charger) and bootloader every few seconds then i pull it off and nothing. i cant get hard spl to recognize the phone nor will activesync. i understand that i need to CID unlock the phone but i cant even get that far?
any suggestions? please walk me through it im not stupid but HTC's are a whole new ball game for me. im used to motorolas(by the way they suck!)

Get the original stock ROM for your Wizard version and flash it to get your OS back, then you can HardSPL or SoftSPL.
p.s. G4 Wizard does not have free solutions to actually "CID unlock". Either HardSPL and SoftSPL are hacks that tricks the RUU to allow flashing, you will still see your device as Locked in WST(Wizard Service Tool).
go to activesycn settings turn OFF allow usb connections and retry
I read it here in another thread after I returned My P4300 to cincinati bell in exactly the same condition you described.

I Eb'd an HTC wizard (cingular 8125) running Wizard Love/NBD WM 6.
On the load screen I get:
AKU 2.3;
IPL and SPL:2.25.0001;
radio:2.25.11;
rom: 6.0.0.0.
My carrier is Tmobile.
Question 1: If my phone has this newer ROM and it takes calls on the Tmobile network it has been CID unlocked and SIM unlocked...right?
I wanna update my rom and think that I am competent enough to do so but there is alot to learn and this is not my full time gig...right.
Question 2: So, if I am correct in Q1 I should be able to flash roms right?
However when I attempt to do so the RUU gives me [error 224]. Active sync and or WMDC says its connected. (I installed the AS drivers in WMDC)
Question 3: Where do I go from here?
Question 4: The wi-fi is currently not working will a new rom potentially clear this up?

yes ! a G4 can be SIM unlocked but it can not be CID unlocked,however,it can be upgraded to wm6 rom,but with method either 'SoftSPL' or 'HardSPL'.With your present ipl/spl 2.25.0001 and you say its NBD wm6 running,then it must have been upgraded through 'SoftSPL' method,as it uses patched ipl/spl and Cid unlocks the phone temporarily,but it never permanently CID unlocks the phone.But with 'HardSPL' ,it changes the ipl/spl to a patched ipl 2.21.0001 and spl 2.21 olip.So everytime you want to upgrade,you'll have to upgrade using 'SoftSPL' method.

Hey thanks for the correspondence zabardast_1, I have been getting frustrated and I have many times contemplated going for the brick or bust approach here.
So, I have done none of the updating on this rig. I rec'd it and I wanted it primarily for wifi however I can't get the wifi card/ (sdiowlan I believe) to even recognize an AP (... I posted in the networking forum but no response.) Thus my own reasoning leads me to believe I should start from scratch with a new rom unless you know of something else.
So, I am not the most savvy and thought that all of the info I had led to SIM and CID unlocked. I just read otherwise last night and in your reply. The info I have provided is accurate the IPL, SPL, radio, although I don't know which NBD release it is; just says 6.0.0.0 and release date: 2/2/07.
I am trying to get the new rom on the my device however and I would've probably already bricked it if I could get an RUU to communicate with my wiz. I always get [Error 224] when I run it and my phone is connected through active sync. I am running vista but have installed the AS drivers for WMDC. I also tried it at work the other day with XP same situ. I then tried flashing from the bootloader screen with an NBD, Wizard Love ( w/ Italian installer?), and T-mob (226102_22610105_022511). The only one that says it will update is the Tmob ROM, however I got cold feet at the update button and canceled.
Other funny stuff I have observed that may or may not be related to the problems I am having are:
Can't install cab files ie (enable rapi or Cert SPCS) and Wiz Sys Tools couldn't read my CID block and hard_SPL G4 gives me REXX error ( SPL_Version has no value).
So, any wizdom you or anybody can drop is much appreciated and needed at this point.

Listen carefully. G4 Wizard cannot be CID-unlocked without paying money. (And yes, you are using a G4).
What you need now is to Flash your original stock carrier ROM (Or wizard love) to get your OS back. Then either use SoftSPL or install HardSPL and flash WM6 ROM.

So, It worked using Wizard Love at work and out of the bootloader window. Now I need to:
1.) Get wifi working.
2.) Get a newer ROM

I don't know what you mean by "wifi not working".
Maybe it is the wifi AP doesn't allow 11Mbps (802.11b) connections?
However, going to any of the WM6 ROMs should already set the registry to allow Wizard connects to G-Only APs. Just use HardSPL/SoftSPL and flash a WM6 and you will see.
OK so "wifi not working" may indeed be a general statement...
What I mean to say is that I am not able to connect to any wireless networks for internet not home (Linksys WRT 54G v5 with ddwrt firmware) or school (university wide) or my city's wifi network. It won't even detect them at least none that Ive seen since I've rec'd this phone. So, that is what I meant by the ambiguous statement.
So, being as your last post was a success I will try as you say and post the results tomorrow. Thanks again starkwong!!!
1 quick thing however, to be sure, I can now try the hard spl or soft spl method of tricking my phone to run an upgrade to WM6?

OK although I have been successful at reinstalling the Mfg ROM and then Hard SPL'ing my wizard thanks to ya'll I still am unable to connect to a wireless network (see one even). I have the Olip on my SPL and I installed a TNT version of WM6 and I am still at work (drunk but still here). Anyway I can't see my wireless AP and I am beginning to think its a hardware issue if thats possible, i dunno the dynamics of this system maybe thats why it was for sale. In any event as usual I am willing to try what ever you guys throw at me as you're my only hope obi wan. Alright Im gonna go home for the night and try getting on to my home network.

Is your device a original one from phone operator? I suspect your device is a China Dopod 838 with replaced casing, because the China version has the wifi hardware removed, so wifi can't be started even if an English ROM is used.
Looks to be authentic 8125
Starkwong, the Cingular logo and the 8125 model # are on the phone case where they have been when I've seen them before in pics. Therfore, I dunno I guess it looks like every other 8125 I've seen. Can I check the SN, IME or anything to be sure?

I am getting all the options for wifi on my phone the LHS LED flashes green when I enable it and alternates blue green when BT is enabled. So, could it still be that its a dupod? I dunno but I am going home for the night... Thanks for your help. I will try connecting to my home network when I get there.
hey, im new but have read many of the pages here. i have burnt roms to my first wiz (G3) unlocked it and everything went well. i came about a wiz (G4) last week wm5 bland rom locked and want to get wm6 on it so after my research i went to the IMEI unlock site and purchased the unlock for the g4
the unlock seemed to go well the first time but, it won't come out of boot loader mode
i ran hornet o.10 for g4 it runs and completed to 100 % and then on reboot it comes up with the boot screen again

i ran the tnt 1933 rom this morning and it completed 100% but still i have a boot screen
i know im missing something the battery power is fine .
i downloaded the stock rom for cingular but it won't load it has error "(294) INVALID VENDOR"
any suggestions ...

Are you sure SPL is 2.21 and not 2.21.0001 as IPL 2.21.0001 ?
Well,if its 2.21 only,the phone's got mixed Bootloaders (IPL/SPL),IPL 2.21.0001 are G4 and SPL 2.21 is G3,I don't know how you got it,but your phone is 'Bricked'

so it appears there could be a problem with the imei program,
as i said it never came out of boot mode after the unlock
and no errors were shown ...
i could get another and replaced the main board, this one is in new condition
except for the custom bricked rom . in the future i will not play with a g4
thanks for the diagnosis, no way to flash a new spl / ipl ... i did read that if
it booted you could get it back in some chance cases .. i am curious as to how this happened (others not doing this for a hobby could brick there only phone)
step 1 - ran imei unlock
never came out of boot mode after
2- flashing the to above roms said to be G4 safe
i never look to see what the ipl / spl were before
i looked with the wizard tool but didn't save it
well you live and learn, it's good for parts now off to ebay for another crack at it ...

I recommend trying to flash back to original service provider ROM, then unlock again and try another. As long as you can get to bootloader (tri-color screen), there's still hope for your phone. When it's in this mode, and you plug in the USB, does it say USB at the bottom of the phone screen? If so, you are not dead yet.
Custom build wm6 roms like TNT etc... never Brick a G4 phone as no IPL/SPL is included in them,they are completely safe for G4 devices.What I can gather,it must be the wrong imei unlock code perhaps.
Well,like Myrddin Wyllt said,there's no harm in trying,so if it gets into Bootloaders,try to flash the official rom and if there's an error "wrong update utility" ,replace the RUU in the rom with this RUU and run this RUU,hope it might work.

yes sir i can talk to the phone from xp pro ..
USB does come up
so i can swap the RRU with the nbf file i need ...
no file name change required on the xxx.nbf file
thanks alot for the(schooling) advise ... i was going to need to brick another to make some book ends... this could save me that

ok, i swapped out every RUU i could find i get errors from
read file
invalid vendor id
wrong update utility
im too new to figure this out ..can you extract a ipl / spl from an
official rom and then flash that to get the boot loader's back in sync
i found the att 8125 ipl /spl nbf when i flash, it runs to 100% reboots but no changes
anyone have a link to flashing just the ipl / spl on the g4
i am most thankful for any advise ..
try running the hardspl on phone, it might just work to revert it back to a G4 spl.

Also I paid to the IMEI Check and I had to change the plate because the PDA died as yours. E had not returned to the money of the IMEI Check only reply to me was that it had to change of plate ..... It had the unblocked CID?
