hi,
I don't know if I'm the only one that has this problem, but the TG01 battery drains very fast (compared to other devices I have, using teh smae services i.e. 3G, push mail and BT), it takes almost 14-18 hours then needs to recharge.
also i wanted to switch off the 3G or the push mail, but the Comm Manager doesn't allow this.
any idea?
Yes this is a major issue with TG01 unless you buy (as I did) an extended battery from Mugen.
To save battery :
- turn off automatic baclight settings and reduce backlight intensity
- use NoData to disable data connections
- reduce CPU speed unless you need power (DivX playback for example)
Or buy a 2600mAh Mugen battery... My TG01 last more than 2 days with intensive use (with 8 hours divx playback with Bt used with Bt headset, about 30mn Internet by 3G and normal phone use, and backlight settings and CPU at full power).
Mugen batteries increase TG01 thickness and weight except the 1300mAh one.
I have just ordered the 2600mah battery as well as the normal battery that comes with the TG01 just doesnt last 12 hours without needing a charge.
Small price to pay for a £150 phone though, these sell on play.com for nearly £500.
My battery don`t take 18 hours or so to recharge, you might need to let the battery go flat and then fully charge it several times and see if that helps, if not, take the phone back for a new one, might be a faulty unit or battery.
Thanks Howell for the advice, but i can' switch off data, nor 3G.
the Wireless manager does not allow to do so.
can you please advise how to reduce teh CPU speed?

To switch off the data you need MoDaCo NoData. You have to register but its free and has a good TG01 forum.
To change CPU speed go to Start\Settings\Power Saving Setting, then select power saving or set up user customisation to a lower setting.

Ok so I just ordered a 4gb Micro SD card for my phone. Which means Movies and MP3's are going to get played almost constantly on my phone. I am getting really poor battery life with my phone, full charge only nets me about 4hrs of heavy use, and 8-12 if I don't do anything but send and receive calls/emails.
I would like some recommendations on high cap battery's for the Hermes phones. My specific phone is an HTC TYTN. I currently have the 1350mAh battery in it. (3.7vdc 1350mAh)
Are there even HC (high capacity) batteries that will work with the phone without having to change the back plate.
My network just did a major upgrade and rolled out HSPDA / UMTS which I thought would be great, but ever since they did, I seem to be going through batts twice as fast. I have just upgraded to the latest radio from AT&T v1.54 however have not had enough time to test it.
Any help with battery choices would be appreciated.
Thanks in Advance.
no other options but to get a physically larger battery as of now. try other powers saving features like turning down screen briteness or going into flight mode.
Well I found an Ebay seller that is selling a 3000mAh battery with replacement back panel for 16.99 and they just happen to be a 10min drive from me. I have been using various power saving features of the phone to try and save battery power, IE setting it to go to sleep mode after only 60 seconds of non use as well as trying to keep the phone in "locked" mode as much as possible so that no app gets loaded accidentally.
Can anyone comment on how much of an improvement I will see with a 3000mAh battery over the stock 1350mAh version. The 3000 is considerably thicker and I imagine much heaver as well.
Here is the link to the battery I bought.

can anyone who is lucky enough to have a Hero already comment on the battery life?
i find that the 1.5 port i have on my Polaris tears through the battery like i have never seen before. (even with all widgets disabled)
don't forget the hero has a 1350 battery fitted as standard
i have no problems with my hero and battery life....so far
As long as you dont enable GPS its fine. I get through the day with about 1/4 left.
And I Browse through wifi for about 1 hr on it. few calls, lots of txts. Few games. few apps like wifi fixer, locale
thanks for the info...
The battery life is better then my Touch HD and deffinetly better then my Diamond, and even when I keep wifi running I can get through a day without trouble,
I'm really surprised how long it lasts, wasn't expected at all,
Imagine how good it will be when an 1500mah or higher battery comes out
hi guys
im thinking of having the hero
jast a small Q
is the hero battery size is the same one as the touch HD battery size ???? (i didnt mean the capacity i mean the size of battery)

No, its thinner but longer. The HD is Shorter but fatter.
One thing I would add about battery life, and that is that when on standby it is excellent.
My Hero came off charge yesterday at about 11am and essentially sat on my desk barely being touched for the rest off the day - a couple of phone calls, a text message, and a few emails. According to the meter on the phone status, I'm at 70%, which means I'd probably have no qualms picking it up and going out now without worrying too much about my battery life.
On my G1, I know that had I left the phone for 24 hours on standby, I'd probably be down to less than 25% by now.
Regards,
Dave
I have not had my Hero long enough to make much of a comment on battery life though I had nothing to complain about until this morning.
I went to bed with about half battery life indicated and I just left the phone. When I got up this morning it had low battery - very unexpected.
I left WiFi off but I have left most settings at their default which means that the phone will be auto syncing my Google account for instance. Can anyone. suggest anything that will help me?
Thanks
My phone has been off charge now for 48 hours, and although it has been idle most of that time, it is still showing 40% battery life - uptime is 50hr 47mins, and awake time only 2hrs 21mins.
Are you sure you weren't running something that would drain the power? Also, check to see if the phone is continually dropping from 3G to 2G and back again as this will drain power significantly.
Regards,
Dave

Well, to be honest, anything is possible! I dont have amazing reception at home but I still think that was unusual battery drain. Has your phone been constantly connected? I know mine is all the time because of the auto sync with Google.
I guess so - I'm getting 3 bars HSDPA where it is currently sitting, so I guess the 3G signal is sufficiently strong for it to stay on 3G.

Dave
To save more power -
Goto 'settings' > Wireless controls > Mobile Network settings - then switch off 'enable always-on mobile' and if you can 'Data roaming'
You may have other apps that constantly check and refresh, change them to check at longer intervals - like twitter.
I can still browse internet and Market fine this way and battery time is extended.
Hi peeps
had my hero for about 1 month now this is second hand set and so far battery life is good about 2-3 days light use on idle i get 6-7days which i think is prtty good for what it dose on normal use i get 1-2 days
I'd suggest to charge the hero everyday. For Lithium-ion batteries it's best to keep them over 40% for a longer life-time. They don't suffer if you charge them very frequently.
And don't leave them off at 100% because that will have a negative effect on the life-time.
Hope that helps keeping your batteries in good shape

yeah it true its better to keep them topped up but for most people thats not alway possible. And in past i have let batterries go be low that and still got like 18months out of them
Wonder why but my HTC hero battery life not very good at all
doesnt last even a day with hardly any serious usage....maybe 30 mins wifi browsing, 30 mins phone browsing, less than 30 texts and maybe 10 mins call,
i had an app called battery status (full version) i wonder if this has been causing the problem....
its hard to effectively test the phone due to diff usage paterns ..any one had any prob with this particular app?
i would like to turn off devices on my TG01 off to save power:
i use my TG01 just as a pocket pc, i.e. i have no sim card inserted. nevertheless, battery is down at 40% after 1 day of standby, even when in flight mode.
as i heard that flight mode does not really work on the TG01, i would like to selectively turn off devices like phone (gsm, 3g), wlan, bluetooth, motion sensor (all the things i don't need), while keeping the gps still working.
is there a rom version or a tool that allows me to really turn off devices separately?
or is there a rom version, specially made for people just using the TG01 as a ppc?
so far, i always have to keep bluetooth running, as the gps does not seem to work as soon as i turn bluetooth off (no idea why it is like that). maybe it's bluetooth that drains so much power...
i actually run the wm6.5.5 v5 rom from novembre5
or is there anything else i can do to save power?
btw:
i tried to measure the current, the device draws from the battery, to find a setting that is the most power saving. unfortunately, all battery meter tools i tried are not able to show actual current. is there a tool that supports the TG01?
please help!
Some tips...

Use wireless manager to turn off/on phone, bluetooth and/or wi-fi separately.
In settings/motion sensor settings disable autoscreen orientation, in settings/sleep mode indicator tick off, in settings/power saving settings un-tick automatic brightness and choose a brightness level according to your needs and so on...
Does not really help!
...and with all those things disabled, the battery is down at about 40% after 1 day in stand-by (when the TG01 has not been used for 1 day)!
so i think there's still something drawing a lot of power!
to compare:
my hp ipaq 214 ppc, running wm6 too, is down at 40% after being in stand-by for 2 weeks, i.e. it's power consumption within 2 weeks is about the same as the TG01's power consumption within 1 day, when in stand-by...and the ipaq is much older than the TG01!
so it seem's obvious that the TG01 just tells to have everything turned off, while still having things running...
Very interesting...
Why don't you keep this thread opened in TG01 General , for instance? I'm afraid that your question it's not related with ROM development...(wrong subforum)
Best Regards
i thought there might eventually be a rom version with the PHONE FUNCTIONALTY DISABLED, or with tighter hardware/power control!
or maybe, there is a rom version OPTIMIZED FOR LOW-POWER!
that's why i placed the thread here.
if there is no way to get help in the rom section, this thread can be moved to general, but i have no idea how to do this.
thanx!

I am also enjoyed my TG01 without a sim card and then be surprised that it holds several days without being charged. So if your battery falls on a day not to use it, then the battery has a reduced capacity. Try several cycles - full charge, use it while off and only then put it to charge. Maybe this will help you.
hm 'holds several days without being charged' sounds good
so how are your settings for bluetooth, wlan and phone?
btw: i bought another battery because i first thought that it is a battery problem - but now it's the same with both of them.
i also turned the phone on once (but without a sim card), and it looked like the battery discharge was about the same as in flight mode.
i read somewhere, that because of a bug, the TG01 turns power of the phone chip on, when the device is set to flight mode, and therefore bluetoot or wlan has to be turned on to really turn off the phone (and save power).
on the other hand, i would like to use the gps, but the gps does not work when the unit is configured to flight mode.
so what is the ideal configuration for reducing power consumption?
thanx!

I believe you don't need a 1ghz processor device if you compare it with a 624mhz.
For tg01 you can even limit cpu speed for better power consumption in power saving settings...
i think when in stand-by, the TG01 cpu does not clock at 1ghz.
i compare stand-by power consumption, i.e. the cpu has almost nothing to do then.

Greetings,
I guess this question is not new, and is covered in several other topics, but nevertheless I will like to ask by what means Folio battery can be saved and how battery life could be improved?
Regards,
Bastospn
I'm not sure if what I suggest is good, but my tips are:
1. Don't use unnecessary widget
2. Don't always turn on Wifi and bluetooth when you're not using them
3. Don't always charge the battery when it's not about to drained (I only charge when the battery level is below 10% or even more extreme as 5%...)
And I think best way to maintain a good battery life is to use DC adapter (with battery taken out) when you're near to a power socket (at home for example). Only use battery when you have to move around. That way you can reduce the recharge cycle and don't need to worry much about battery life
By the way, just a quick check, how long can your Folio battery last in a full charge? (with all settings to highest, like brightness, wifi + surfing net?) Mine can last for about 5-6 hours.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is about to release its 2nd-gen tablet with battery rating about 3 times higher than our Toshiba Folio tablet...
I read that putting tablet into flight mode(and thus deactivating some phone features) can help.... If wifi is needed -one can just re-enable it in settings...
Can anyone comment this ?

It helps A LOT. Wi-fi seems to drain this device a lot even tho there's not much data transfer. Battery use reports insane percentages for wi-fi on my device at least.
And no need to go to settings, just create a widget for wi-fi activation
Also :
- use a non-animated background
- kill the apps you don't need

I use to just pull it on my one laptop, problem being if it losses power.
My dinosaur Latitude has that useful feature.
I think it needs hardware support to work, some laptops like Dell support it.
Is there any good laptop battery store you can recommend?

I used stupid Walmart. A CCP made one but its holding up ok so far. No OEM power indicator like the Dell original though.
Meh... the price was right
Note: watch the lead time when using Walmart. With some vendors it's close to a month!!!

You can physically pull the battery but if you loss AC power that's an issue.
Maybe a hardware solution with a switch (and a bypass diode, may work) the be the easiest do it yourself work around.
Rather annoying...
I am also interested in this question! I've always turned my computer off at night and shut it down if I take a break, but some sites say that the computer loses even more power when it starts up again.
I've been doing a bit of reading the last few days and from what I gather- if it's not built into the system then it's not worth it. Newer and modern laptops rarely and never overcharge and go over the max limit. Manually plugging and unplugging actually takes away from the laptop's charge and discharge lifespan so unless it has a really beefy battery it's not worth it. It's also a good idea to not let it really go down below 20-25% too frequently. I've set mine at 20% from the win 10 power saving feature. You should also check your manufacturer's battery optimizing and calibration suggestions as well. Mine for example suggests calibrating their frequently used laptops once every 3 months and their lesser used ones about once a month..
Battery Optimizer will scan your laptop and determine ways to extend the life of your laptop battery. Battery Optimizer will then offer steps to take, as well as anticipated time savings and other battery management features.
This amazing software can help you extend the life of your battery by performing extensive diagnostics and providing simple recommendations and adjustments. You may configure it to monitor your battery usage over time and notify you when it exceeds a specified threshold.
With intelligent profiles for quick settings adjustments, optimizing your battery life is quick and straightforward.
This battery optimizer uses few resources and has no effect on the performance of your computer. Battery Optimizer really tells you how much extra battery life you may save by turning down key hardware and services on your laptop.
In addition, you can make use of features like battery usage alerts when you overuse the battery capacity. So you can set up a battery optimizer to see usage over time.
Hence with the most advanced technology to optimize battery life, this software covers any laptop battery difficulties over time.

My Acer Aspire 5 A515 is always plugged into AC power. Two distinct disadvantages of Acer, compared to Lenovo: Acer doesn't seem to offer charge-limiting software, and the batteries are usually not removable. So the Acer's battery died in about two years. Meanwhile, the battery on my Lenovo ThinkPad E430 still works after ten years.
Most newwer laptop batteries are designed to be smart, once a battery is 100%, the charger port will rout the incoming power directly to the power supply of the laptop bypassing the battery. Analogous to using a laptop without a battery while connected to power source. Do not drain your battery. It does more harm. Anyways whatever you do , the average difference in life of similar batteries would be a max of 8 – 10 months depending on usage. An important point. Battery life is reduced drastically if it overheats , that is the major culprit. Use an external cooler pad while working.
In Windows 11, there is no such option that lets you set a charging limit to start and stop charging your laptop battery. If you want to change charging settings and set a charging limit for your laptop battery, you have to change the required settings in your system BIOS. or install the dedicated app developed by your laptop manufacturer.
