FM Tuner with Active Charging??? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Accessories

Been looking around, and can't find it. I did however find a fm tuner made for the touch pro 2 that was only around 15 bucks. I got it from Japan. Anyway, It does plug into the cigarette lighter, but does not charge the phone, only powers the fm transmitter. So, I got a cigarette lighter splitter, and connected my phone to it so I can charge while using the fm transmitter.
Now, the problem is, I have too many cables now, and it looks really crappy. Plus, the fm tuner carries a lot of static, so sound quality isn't that good. (I use pandora in my car). So, my question...do they make an all in one charger, fm tuner? I've looked and looked, and can't find one. I just want one cable using the cigarette lighter, and a decent fm transmitter so I can get decent reception.
Thanks in advance...

Well, I'll still have a couple cables, so that really doesn't clean up the mess that much, but it is a start. Just curious though, how is the reception on the iTrip? Mine is awful

nobody???
Anyone? Still trying to find a solution for this.

I purchase this one for my wife's ipod touch
http://cgi.ebay.com/CAR-FM-Transmit...wItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item335a22b99b
It has a earphone jack that fits the touch pro 2, a usb slot on the side that will charge the touch pro 2. Programmable radio station's and ipod jack just in case you have one.
Have used it for about 3 weeks and it works great, I use it for pandora and also have used it as a hands free option while I'm in the car.

Awesome, thanks a MILLION. I have one ordered and on the way. I love that it comes with a holder as well.

Why I was getting poor reception
So, I thought it was just a crappy fm tuner that was causing static. Turns out, if I have my tp2 on full blast (on the phone side), it causes this distortion that sounds like bad reception. If I turn it down just one notch (on the phone), it sounds perfectly clear. Just thought I'd pass this along to anyone else who might find it useful.

3.5mm jack antenna only?

can anyone confirm if you can buy or make a 3.5mm stubby aerial for the hd? as i dont want to have to use the headphones to get radio reception. my reason for this is i want to recieve TMC signals but not using my headphones built in antenna. cheers
I'd like to know this as well, but usually when this question gets asked for different phones you mainly get people asking why you want to, and repeating what you already know about the heaphones normally being the antenna.
Good luck finding out - I hope you find a useful solution.
Yes, I just put a 3.5 - 6.3 adapter without any other cables and it worked just fine.
The quality of the reception was better, maybe because there is no torsions because of the cable... ?
(Sorry for my bad english, I'm belgian...)
i had a quick play with a old chopped headphone cable, seemed to work just fine. Made the cable about 6 inches - but after reading about the 3.4mm-6.5mm adaptor this may be overkill.
Just for reference - putting the stylus into the hole doesn't work either.

well, it was worth a go
Not sure what exactly a 6.5mm cable is (sorry if I'm being thick!).
So with an old headphone 3.5mm plug with 6inches of cable you can use the radio ok then?
Can you get it out of the speaker like this? I guess the answer is yes because if you have a 6" long chopped up headphone cable in place you can't use headphones!

Actually - it DID "sort of" work - the radio software registered that an aerial was connected and allowed the radio to search the airwaves.... it just didn't find anything!
Not a usable solution though - I had to exert some (light) pressure on the upper end of the stylus so that the end that was inside the 3.5mm socket was pushed against the actual terminal.

Ahh I see.
Hmmm, I have one the opposite way around but not that
Still, I have some knackered headphones I could strip down for the plug and then experiment from there.
Are there not any registry changes needed to go with this at all?

I'd love to buy one of those but I can't find any on Ebay in English and although that auction list great britain for shipping it's 22EUR for the shipping for a tiny antenna!!!
Does anyone know how I can buy one of these please? Thanks if you can help!

Any feedback.
How is reception?
does this really work? I would have expected that as soon as the dummy headphones were used all sound from the phone's speaker would stop. this would make sat nav a little useless.
I know it works with the radio application as there is an option to turn sound to headphones off and play sound through the units speaker instead.
The reception is excellent, RDS works well. Obviously, You'll have to listen to the radio through the built-in speaker, since the 3,5" jack is used by the antenna

Can you confirm in works with navigon? Would love to get TMC traffic working on my touch HD while still hearing the spoken directions.
There's no TMC receiver in the touch HD, only the good old-fashioned GPS. For TMC You'll need a separate TMC receiver - a friend of mine uses the GNS TrafficBoxplus FM9BT-Y, it works well with navigon.

3.5mm headphone adaptor...

Has anyone tried a mini-usb to 3.5mm headphone adaptor yet?
I used one with my Kaiser that worked fine. It'd be great to hear what experiences people have had with various adaptors with the TP2.
i got two adapters and they both work. one of them is just usb-stereo jack, the other one is usb -> Stereojack and 2 USB ports for charging and syncing.

Been using a mini usb to stereo jack adaptor for some time & works fine! Picked it up at Radio Shack in the States...
One thing worth noting is that there are two different sort of mini-USB to 3.5mm jack adaptors - the standard mini-USB and the HTC ExtUSB. I did notice a difference between the types last night while playing with the FM radio application last night. The ExtUSB type will let you use any earphones as an FM antenna, the standard mini-USB won't, probably missing an essential line, I guess.

I havent found a way to listen to radio without headphones at mo. would be gould if you could as ity drains my bat sat her at work.
I'm going for this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00195I3X6
I had the same one with my Kaiser, and it lasted for ages (sold it with my Kaiser though).
The reason I'm going for it is because it supports charging while listening to music (good for in car or when doing power-hungry wifi radio). Only issue with this is that it makes the music noisy when power is plugged in, so it's not good for quiet tracks.
The HTC a300 looks good for desktop use, but doesn't seem very portable (a bit big maybe).
with this adaptor:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/3-in-1-h...-with-extusb-for-htc-mobile-phones-p19259.htm
as it shows it has a USB port, from a while back i have an in car charger which was used to charge my ipod via a FM transmitter, the FM transmitter had the same port on the bottom. My question is if i buy this adaptor could i use the in car charger with this to charge my TP2??

About to test it once charged. It does have a mic and according to instructions can make and recive calls.
Rubbish! I've just received my one from amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00195I3X6), and while it works fine, it's quite big & feels cheap.
The one I had with my Kaiser I think was actually this one, mentioned above: http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/3-in-1-h...-with-extusb-for-htc-mobile-phones-p19259.htm, which looks similar, but is actually a fair bit smaller.
Oh well, it'll have to do for now!

OK I started out with a Venturi Mini which worked fine for a while, then physically broke after only a few months. I managed to repair it with a bit of soldering, and it now works intermittently.
I therefore (on recommendation from XDA) bought an obscure bluetooth transmitter from ebay. This is much more substantial and robust - and gives a very strong signal. This has worked perfectly, the only problem is it's size and having to use an extension lead and find a way to stick it out of the way in the car so it doesn't get in the way of changing gear! (Depends where your cigarette lighter socket is..)
I therefore fancied the combined cradle / FM transmitter instead from here My initial reaction was it was cheap rubbish - the socket was loose so although it would transmit a signal, as soon as you move the car it loses the connection to the TP2, making it useless. However, I then used a pair of pliers to tighten the socket in the cradle, and it worked well for nearly 2 weeks - including charging the phone while driving. I was getting to be quite happy with it, until today it just stopped transmitting a signal. I've opened it up but can't find any obvious loose connections, so it's now trash - proving my initial view.
I am now wondering about the FM talk transmitter. Has anyone tried it?
I have use the FM talk transmitter found on Ebay since July. It works great.
Only problem is that it doesnt charge the phone when the mini-usb car charger is plugged to the transmitter. It only powers the transmitter.
http://cgi.ebay.com/CAR-FM-TRANSMIT...wItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item414aa12524
this works real good for me.
I connect the dongle to an adapter to a tape deck module that you put in your tape deck (if you still have one) The cool thing is I can also use it as a speaker for when i receive calls. Works awesome, and better sound quality than FM transmitter.

That IS cheap! (You did well to get a few months use out of it)
I would recommend the bulkier transmitter - in fact I'm back to using it now and it works without a problem. It even comes with 2 remote controls - 1 handheld, 1 which attaches to the steering wheel, although these don't work on the recent NRG ROMs to fwd & rwd through tracks (which is a shame).
Apart from the size, I find having to turn on Bluetooth and connect each time I get in the car a bit of a pain (as opposed to just plugging the phone in), but if you're used to that it won't be an issue.
I've ordered the FM Talk transmitter now anyway.
As regards Import tax, I have ordered numerous items from China, Thailand etc. and only once had to pay duty. Generally the retailers have wised up and write 'GIFT' on the label, which exempts the item from duty.

Thanks, the remotes would come in handy as the kids use my phone to watch films in the back..gotta love that TP2 screen!! I rekon i'll add it to my christmas list!!
BTW i'm using Miri's 2.5 ROM which does support the fwd/back on my BT headphones!
I use my Motorola T505 for bluetooth/listening to music, mostly Pandora. A little pricey, but I'm not a headphone type of guy and it's technically illegal in California to not use some type of hands-free set.
What kind of car do you have? I'm going to give this a try. It should also charge the phone. It looks like it will display track info in my BMW but not in my VW.

Or
just buy a car radio with Adanced Stereo support over Bluetooth! that way you can also control your phone through the head-unit .
My method
As Die Bruine said a unit with bluetooth is great! However I couldn't afford the bluetooth adapter for my head-unit. So I have a stereo with a USB reader, after I connect my Tilt 2 I just tell it to go into mass storage mode!

I do this too, and I accidentally discovered that you can still use the mic from the speakerphone when it's connected (via 3.5mm jack on the Sprint TP2), so I prop my TP2 on the steering column when I talk in my car (luckily, it cradles perfectly and the rubbery paint keeps it from slipping during turns). I'm told that they hear an echo when they talk, but my voice sounds better than any headphone or BT Headset I've used, and the voice quality over the speakers is really good.
well i bought the fm talk been using it for 3 days now and i love it. its easy to use its self explanitory just plug it in and go. makes the music sound louder on my cars speaker the only thing is that it doesnt charge your phone while in use but its not a problem for my i have temporaly flashed back to stock rom because its the only rom that has a long battery life well from my experience .....
thank you ugys for your thoughts i appreciate it

Yeah, sorry about that one. I found it out the hard way. Didn't know you had to have wired for FM. Oh well. New device, still learning.
One option is to get the cheapy ones off eBay for the wiring and then dismantle the ear phones. You can then attach a nicer set of phones that will give better quality. Here's a link, http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to/video/how-to-replace-the-iphone-headset-s-earphones-238810/. I have done this before with good success.

That's what I'm looking for as well. I have my USB headset from my Kaiser, however, it will NOT work with the FM radio. Apparently there's some wiring required in the headset to utilize it as an antennae that my old headset just simply does not have.
I'm hoping someone to point me in the direction of a USB headset that they own that DOES work with FM radio. I really don't want to have to keep buying them in hopes that they work. LOL! If they're in the ear (as in extended, not those shallow type that sits just over the ear canal -- those keep falling out of my ears) earbuds, that'd be a HUGE plus!
Thanks, peeps!

I have these http://www.htcdepot.com/htc-stereo-headset/11A29A1450.htm and they work fine w/ FM radio and everything else. You can find them on
ebay for cheaper. Here is another one http://www.seidioonline.com/product-p/h2ern11p-bkg.htm
Those Seidio ones look like just what I've been looking for, although I'm not all that fussy about whether they retract or not. Unfortunately, they're much more expensive than I'm willing to pay right now, so if any one knows of a set that looks like those *and* works with FM radio, point this sister in the right direction, please!
Thanks so much for the information, mykwalkr!!!

I have these http://www.htcdepot.com/htc-stereo-headset/11A29A1450.htm and they work fine w/ FM radio and everything else. You can find them on ebay for cheaper. Here is another one http://www.seidioonline.com/product-p/h2ern11p-bkg.htm

htc cord/panasonic headphones
i use the htc headphones adapter made for the google phones that I bought at the tmobile store. they have a microphone built in. then I got a really nice pair of Panasonc headphones (thx7 in red) that have a really great sound. I roled the cord up and attached the adapter and now I have the best headset headphone system ever! the voice quality is incredible and the music is exquisite.
this cord is only $10 bucks and the headphones were $35 including shipping. radio works. Pandora even sounds good.
Just a nitpick - please stop calling them USB headsets. Call them ExtUSB headsets, as there is a MASSIVE difference.
HTC's ExtUSB connector is a superset of the mini-USB connector that adds standard analog audio lines. There is no such thing as a "USB headset" for HTC WM devices, as none of them support USB host mode.
