How will root effect HTC updates ? - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone
Hate to ask a stupid question... but here it comes:
If I go and root my Hero and install a custom rom (2.0 or 2.1 ?)
Can I then still install the original rom when HTC releases there 2.1 version next month ?

In short yes.
Installing an official update will wipe absolutely everything on your phone.
It may be hard to root again if you do that though so it might be best to wait for a rooted version of the official rom (should be out about the same time as the official one)

So it will not disable my ability to install the original version again if I root now ??
Have never tried to root yet

You will be able to install the official rom if you have a rooted phone.

the issue might come, te root your phone after the update from HTC though....

im no expert, so dont quote me on this, but from my understanding, and what apple was doing and just about everyother device ive had that had software updates (ps3,psp) when u do the stock rom update it will install over the rom and you will lose your custom rom.
If you switch from the stock rom to a custom rom, you will NOT receive official firmware updates anymore... so as long as you don't go and download a stock rom and install it manually, your phone will continue to run the custom rom until you update / change it...

Most likely a dev will go ahead and release a flashable version of any updates so you can still effectively get updates despite not being stock.

You have to flash a rooted rom or reroot your phone after restoring your original recovery and updating your phone
Thanks, that's what I was afraid of .

you dont need to unroot to change roms you should be able to flash any rom (as long as you have the right recovery and what not)
If your talking about just stock ROM rooted and wanting to get the 4.3 OTA then im 99% sure that once you root which (means you unlocked the bootloader) you cant receive the OTA anymore. im not sure if its worth the hastle of relocking the bootloader to maybe see if youll get the ota. just flash a 4.3 rom and youll be good.

cool thx im gonna try to flash a 4.3 rom
so i flashed this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2499452 and now super user says there is no SU binary installed , if you upgraded to android 4.3 , you need to manually re-root-consult the relevant forums for your divece . could anyone help me out here i dont know what to do, do i need to re root the phone?
All you have to do is download chainfire latest superuser zip and reboot into recovery and choose it and install it .
You don't need to reroot if you already flashed a Rom..that means you was able to flash it cause u was rooted .
You just need to install superuser zip.

Update to MM after using rooted, debloated stock ROM

I just got the MM update warning on my V10. Currently using Stock, debloated, rooted ROM. I'm thinking I want to upgrade to stock MM 6.0. I tried the install but it rebooted into the customs recovery. How can I get the MM upgrade to work from the custom ROM I am on?

First you'll need a new recovery TWRP 3.0.2
Second - You'll need to delete the ota update because once you "accidentally" install it you'll cry that you cant root and want to downgrade back to LP.
C. Go to the Dev section and Download the Rom that was built using the ota i just told you to delete. You'll be much happier with a Rom rather than a OTA update thats non-rootable.
Oh..theres also multiple threads regarding the ota.. Doing a simple search wouldve made things a lot easier.
Heres the link to the MM T-Mobile H901 V20E Rom.

Well the OP of the link I posted updated his 1st post. But since you're rooted you should just be able to follow the instructions.
1. Update your recovery to TWRP 3.0.2 (GROGG's build)
2. Download the Rom. Its a 2 part Download. So you'll need Part 1 and Part2 build 005
Dont flash anything until youre certain your recovery is 3.0.2 otherwise you might end up bricking or certain partitions might not be flashed.
If anything read the link OP a few times.

It needs a Custom Recovery & a Custom ROM(JB or Above) To Upgrade, Search In XDA or Google it, Does Your device Has These Two Means You Can Upgrade..

There is no custom recovery or a custom ROM available that I know of. The device is Vizio Co-star.
If you don't have these 2 things, does it mean you can't upgrade?
Are they are patches or can something be done if the device is rooted?
Thanks

No There Are No Other Ways, if Your Device Supports Official Updates Means You don't Need These Two..if Your Device Doesn't Support Official Updates Means You need Custom Recovery & a ROM to Upgrade From One Version to Another , & Root Helps In Flashing a Recovery, If Your Device Doesn't Have A Custom Recovery Means Root Can't Do Anything With That.. Root is Just a Assistance for Flashing a Custom Recovery ..
CM ROMs Even Have In-build Root With ROMs, So Root is Not A Big Issue Here ...
