[HELP] Goldcard questions. - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi thanks to anyone who replies!
1.) How do i know is i have successfully created my goldcard?
2.) Can i still use this goldcard as a removable disk on my Hero?
3.) What does a goldcard do?

To answer your questions!
1) If it allows you to use an RUU that isn't specific to your carrier, it has worked.
2) Yes
3) All it does it override the CID (carrier ID checking) when you apply an RUU. Normally, if you were to attempt to use an Orange RUU on a device with a T-Mobile ROM, it would complain because the carrier ID on your new ROM doesn't match the carrier ID on your old ROM. The goldcard simply tells the phone to ignore the current carrier ID.
It should be said that the creation of a goldcard is not an exact science. You can go through all the steps apparently successfully and still end up with something that doesn't work. Sometimes, simply trying again works, but in other situations you need to try a completely different SD card.
Regards,
Dave

Thanks dave for answering all my questions

Just a quick tip, while creating the goldcard, there will be a phase where you will be using a program called HxD. When you are to "open disk" choose the physical disk that corresponds to your SD card, instead of the logical disk. That's where a lot people fails at =)
And after you are gone through all the guide and should end up with a goldcard, just remove your card from your pc, and re-mount it. If you are asked to format the card, you have failed, if not, probably you were successful =)
Good luck =)

Upgrading rom without sync cable?

So, like the title says, I wish to upgrade my rom without the use of a sync cable (the one I have glitches). Bluetooth is probably out of the question, but I was thinking there might be a flash upgrade boot option of sorts, that'd allow me to upgrade through the use of an micro sd-card or so.
Any ideas?
(before you ask, I charge the battery with an external charger).
A lot of the phones are capable of upgrading from the rom image on the SD card - if you extract the nbh and rename it (I forget the name - search the hermes forum) and put it on a blank phone - you probably can do it that way. I've not tried it but it's likely to work!
Edit:
Here's the link to the procedure for the hermes:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SDCardFlashing
You probably have to name the image something other then HERMING.nbh - maybe STARIMG.nbh? Just a thought. Remember - I don't know for sure this will work - doing so might cause the world to implode but I suspect if it works, it works - otherwise it doesn't.
Ok, thanks for the quick reply. Just tried with STARIMG.nbh aswell as STAR100IMG.nbh in the root folder of a recently formatted sd-card, but no go. The text "searching sd-card" that flashed by right before I get the test screen does however indicate that it's a viable method for updating the ROM, so I'll keep going and try some other names for the ROM image.
If you figure out the name, please post so we know how to do it
I would also be very interested in this ... anyone figured out the correct filename yet?
On mine it's STARIMG.nbh.
The card needs to be formatted FAT32.
I've never tried SD card flashing with SoftSPL, but you would need SoftSPL to flash a non-OEM ROM.

Need to Flash, but Broken USB Port..

I have an 8525 at home, that I need to return for Warranty replacement, via Cingular/AT&T. Problem is, it has the VP3G 3.62 rom on it, and the USB port is toast (the black thing that aligns the pins are gone, and some of the pins are mashed, or missing). I need to return this to a factory state within 9 days. I have read about flashing via memory card, but there was mention of SPL and bootloader. I don't have the phone handy to reference what's on there, but it sould be whatever the VP3G 3.62 comes with. Is there a way I can change those without using a usb connection? I don't have any sort of bluetooth tethering ability either. hope anyone can help, thank you!
Get a SD card and reader. Drop the files you need to put it back to stock software on that.
Is there a way to do the spl or/and bootloader via memory card?

Yes there is, otherwise I wouldn't have suggested it.
Assuming you have not installed HardSPL on the phone, this is what I would do:
*Grab a copy of hardspl and put it into it's own directory.
* Run RUUWrapper.exe, click on Force Using SSPL, click next. This will put a few files in the directory, one of which is named EnterBL.exe
* Copy EnterBL.exe to the SD card.
*Copy the file to the memory of the phone
*Put the ROM you want to flash on the FAT32 formatted SD card, renaming it per the SD Card Flash instructions
*Put that card in the phone
*Run EnterBL.exe from the phone's memory with the SD card in place
As I understand it, this should temporarily load the modified boot loader, which will see the image file and ask if you want to continue with the flash process.
Ok, sorry if I came off rude, as I am just new at all of this. Thanks for the information, and I'll give this a try when I get home from work this morning, and let you know how it goes. I appreciate it very much.

Oh you didn't. And my apologies if I came across like a git, I did try to show that I was being a bit of a smart arse with the .
Yes, let us know how it works. I'm 99% sure that should sort your question and problem out.
Yay
It's all back to stock AT&T software. Thanks for your help! I'll let you know how the warranty return works out.

Flashing from SD: A Success Tale

I've just finished successfully flashing an unofficial WM6.1 ROM to my StarTrek (Cingular 3125) using only a microSD card (no data cable, no ActiveSync, no Windows) and the brilliant work found on this forum. I thought I would share the details of my success in the hopes that it will help the next person who stops by, since I myself found it difficult to find a definitive yes/no on the matter here.
Requirements:
HTC StarTrek
I had the Cingular ROM; Any should work.
microSD card
IMPORTANT: Your card MUST be using FAT32 for this to work. If it is not already so, back up its data and do this now. (Windows will show a FAT16 volume simply as "FAT".)
AppUnlock tool
The one linked at this post is good. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1146363
The ROM you wish to flash
I used the WM6.1 Standard ROM posted here by Erofich, since it is most appropriate for a Smartphone such as the StarTrek. You can also use the Professional version, though it is intended for use with a touch screen, so you will have to control a cursor with physical keys.
A computer you can use to extract and place these files onto the microSD card.
After you've obtained the listed files and have them extracted somewhere on your computer, copy the following files to your microSD:
SurrealNetworksAppUnlock.cab (Anywhere)
The entire SSPL directory from your extracted ROM download. (Anywhere)
RUU_signed.nbh, found within the RUU directory of your ROM download. (Rename this to STARIMG.NBH and place it in the top-most level of your microSD card, not inside a folder.)
Insert the microSD into the device (the door is located beneath the SIM card). Using the File Explorer (or Total Commander, if you have it), move or copy the three contents of the SSPL directory from your Storage Card to the top level (/) of your phone.
Find the SurrealNetworksAppUnlock.cab file on the Storage Card and run it. It should install like any other application, and you will notice a change to your Home Screen wallpaper.
Using File Explorer again, navigate to the top level (/) of your phone and run SPL.lnk (36 bytes, if this helps you distinguish which file to select). If all goes as expected, you will see a white screen, followed by a message telling you to press the top Volume button to proceed. Do this, and it will flash your new OS to the phone.
I hope I've offered a clear and helpful explanation of this process. Enjoy your now-renascent StarTrek!
Special thanks to Corian for helping me troubleshoot, to #xda-devs, and to all content authors involved here.
Funny, I was planning on re-flashing my 3125 via SD card, but I could not find where I left the instructions. I did it many times a few months ago while trying many ROMs, but I could not recall the exact procedure. Then I come to XDA-Devs to search for the info again and find your post sitting there right on top. Thanks, you saved me lots of time.
I'm currently using Erofich's (pArtizAn's) 6.1 standard ROM as well, but wanted to try out Erofich's PRO version for kicks, and maybe retry GnatGoSplat's clean ROM (I found I'm not using Mobile Office , which the Clean ROM leaves out.)
Ideally, I wish there was a way to install certain WM-Pro only applications on WM-Standard, so that I don't need to change to a touch screen centric OS just for a few applications.
BTW, anyone find and use the HTC Network Setup tool to configure the phone for use with U.S. AT&T service. I want to avoid having to manually set up the data settings.
Freakin awesome, works like a charm, now I can flash my phone with the broken charging/sync port. Many thanks...
Hello. I done all steps of this instruction, but can't flash because the message which invite you to press volume button does not appear...
You should repeat the instructions very carefully. Are you sure your SD card is FAT32-formatted, rather than just FAT (FAT16)?

I actually have no idea; What I've posted here is all the experience I have in this department.
Hope you get it figured out!
P.S.: Erofich has a new ROM posted in this subforum; You should check it out if you plan on flashing.

what about gold card for star trek?

people, it's possible this? i've read others posts!!about unbricker methods... it's possible or not? erofich, help us!!! Thanks
what is a "gold card"?
Man, i've read this in http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Elf_GoldCard it's possible to get something like that for HTC S411?
its possible it will work.......cause i think this was originally done on the herald. But then you're still stuck at this step:
Code:
Download a shipped ROM (not a dumped or cooked ROM!) with the [B]same Device ID[/B] as yours
so you're still stuck, since u need a shipped rom for the s411

Device ID isn't a Carrirer ID
device id in our case means STAR100 or STAR160
yes aldo, i think it will work!
please, could you help me? because this phone is very uncommon in my country, i need the gold card, i don't know who has this phone. please send me the file if you have this phone. thanks
my bad......got my IDs mixed up. So aldo, u are ok with that, u can use either the qtek rom or the dopod rom. all the steps and files you need are in that wiki. you dont need another s411 for this, you just need a working windows mobile phone to obtain the card ID. its really easy, i already created one myself, i just haven't had the time to test it yet.
read the instructions in the wiki article, and if you are having problems, then post in the thread that's linked in that wiki article. And once you are done, if you're successful, post here, so others that have bricked their phone know that they can use this method to unbrick it.
please, attacht the file for test... please
i don't have any WM device, please attacthment the file to test in my phone
dude, there is no file to post, its written directly to the sd card.
if i generated the file instead of directly writing it, this file will only work with my sd card, which is why you need to do this on your own. dont you realize this is why there are only instructions on how to generate the gold card, and no one posted any file. borrow a wm device from someone, it only takes like 3 clicks.
i still cant test if this works.......i need to hunt down a non-sdhc card, i knew i shouldnt have returned that 2gb card.
aldo, you need a gold card image which has own serial number

you don't need exactly the HTC StarTrek to read your MicroSD card's serial number - you can use ANY Windows Mobile powered device which has a microSD slot
ok, thanks, i'm going to look for someone who has WM device
tomorrow, i'm going to get a WM phone, i still couldn't have to test it... i hope it will work.. cross fingers!!!
dont forget to format your microsd card to fat32 before!
aldo, describe your problem here and stop spamming by both private and visitor messages, or i will add you to black list in my profile
ok, i explain you... when i tried to install the gold key in the SD card, i get a error that it says as follow: You need to set right registry permisions. See the QMAT manual for more info....
Please, tell me what i can do, answer me, thanks and sorry for the inconvenients
http://revskills.de/downloads/QMATManual.pdf
page 38
Oh my God, my phone is live............ it works!!!!!!
oh my god, oh my ****ing god... it works!!!
People follow the steps in http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...e=Elf_GoldCard; first you have to this is in the WM device working if you don't get the gold card....
This is taken from Manual QMAT: page 38
This tool lets you create a goldcard for HTC devices. The goldcard is a special SD card that unlocks
Diagnostic Features for HTC devices.
Once your device is connected via Activesync / WMDC, you can press "Get SD Card Serial from
WINCE Device" to obtain the serial number of the inserted SDCard in your PDA/Smartphone.
Alternatively you can enter the 16-byte Serial number manually.
To make it work, please check the following :
- On the device, allow start of itsutils.dll
- On some devices you must set the right security permissions via Registry Editor :
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\"00001001" set to integer 1
After that, select the device under "device key" to generate a goldcard image.
Then you can choose either "Save Goldcard Image to File" to generate a SDCard Image,
or write the Goldcard directly to the SD Card inserted in your PDA/Smartphone via "Save Goldcard
Image to WINCE SD".
Do it!!! and post your results....
my congratulations

it is better you find out - http://psas.revskills.de
and learn PSAs 1.08 was released, I am confident that you can develop it to your device
and as a friend, I can only help with this
I search people.... You have a HTC Monet, please write in this topic
How "bricked" is your device - i.e. which state can you get it when switching on?

This Device run only in Bootloader mode(tri color screen etc)
Problem is.... this phone not have a Official/Ship firmware
Well then the sequence is:
Hard-Reset (L+R Softkey method)
R2SD backup (where can you get THAT? - Even how can you make that, on a GoldCard possibly?)
Official firmware (see above)
Gold Card will not help for loading a cooked ROM as it still needs a signed ROM (despite ignoring the Carrier).

Hard-Reset (L+R Softkey method) -> Not Working
R2SD backup (where can you get THAT? - Even how can you make that, on a GoldCard possibly?) -> Not Working
Official firmware (see above) -> Not Find, and not get from Virgin Mobile/HTC
Sad situation - you will have to google around, possibly find owners where you could get at R2SD backup from (if that works for this device). I found this query not so long ago: http://forums.phone-tools.cn/showthread.php/31636-Htc-lobster-700tv-how-can-i-unlock-with-xtc-clip-%28virgin-mobile%29
Do you know if this device has the M-Systems DiscOnChip (like older Wizard and Typhoon(Hurricane/Tornado) or already newer/other encrypted storage?
You could as well try the guys at IMEI-check.UK - they are very knowledgeable and may have a system backup of the supported devices in their drawer (just in case..). Maybe they can fully CID Unlock the SPL on that device and allow the flashing of a cooked ROM (is there any)?

I understand, but not have a good solutions. i see all this pages... and nothing
My dad still has his Monet on the stock ROM.
IF you can give me simple instructions to follow to dump the ROM, I can do it when I next see him (within the next few months).
Safest method should be to have a GoldCard created and then do a R2SD backup on that card. The R2SD command should be available from the "GoldCard - SuperCID" SPL.
If that works, nothing on the device itself has to be changed and the complete ROM is dumped on the card. In turn that memory card can then be dumped to a file, zipped and shared.
I said simple I've not ever researched gold card and to be honest don't have the inclination to do so. if you could give me clear step by step instructions with links to needed files, I can help.
Well - I don't need it, its Nokser
So he surely will tell you a step-by-step action what to do, maybe even prepare a package for you. It will require downloading a program that can create the Gold Card (psas.revskills.de), have a suiting SD card, as small as 64MB, but any less than 2 GB will do it, a normal USB cable, a PC, a Terminal Program (mtty) and finally one out of a set of tools that can handle the created image.
If all is prepared well, the total time to execute all actions would be ~half an hour (the dump on the device is just a minute!), but you should calculate a little more for this one time action.
Thanks for offering your help to save one of a species from the dumpster!

Hi
Please, you first dump and write in attach. bootloader section
...just to complement the GoldCard idea:
When writing back the dump to a card for loading the broken device, the bootsector of that card may require to be a "gold card" too. Since the Gold Card key is related to the device and the Serial number of the card, the key contained in the bootsector of the dump will not fit to the serial of the new card Nokser has to use.
So after the dump was written back to the card, the PSAS has to write the goldcard-key to the new card again (which is different as the serial of the card is different).
I wish you luck getting that operation done!
I want Bootloader, because in this file is writing all info from load all parts and method backup. All abouts from boot file is importand.
If we IDA execute this file, then we see -> how to get any section and name sectiors
Bootloader (IPL and SPL) are part of the "R2SD All" backup. You can patch them later. Makes no sense to only do partial R2SD backups.
