WM6 empowerment

I have an HTC device since blue angel, then Wizard, Hermes and Athena now (HTC flavour)
As happy user of Jasjamin WM6 ROM, I noticed some features to be added to a "plain" WM6 Athena ROM
I will suggest, from XDA, WM6 remote desktop (I use it with athena big screen to work remotely on my home/office PC from the beach when needed ) and OFFICE 2007 cab , from Wizard forum, new office 2007 appz and ONENOTE, great app to take a note on the road, having pictures, sound ad formatted text together. Good way to prepara an article or a simple trip record
I think I will test the TOUCH home plugin. Any other suggestion? Midget, from your Rom building experience, (the Athena rom seems an OLD wm6), what do you suggest to add?

Yes, the Midget new rom will be the future, I am talking about now!
Many wm6 rom are available and many add-on are available too!
That's why I am asking to exchange here the known WM6 add on available for other devices and working with ATHENA.
I believe I will need a new rom ONLY to have a RADIO, IPL, SPL, page pool,... mix to have a well tuned ROM.
Today the scene is...not so many ATHENA original ROMs to choose (and to mix) , the appz are easy to install by myself and I don't need to have a ROM developed just to put together some appz!
yes, I don't care about windows customer experience, but ATHENA has enought CPU power and memory and we are allowed to ignore unuseful MS jokes .

UPDATE: Tested Ultra Lite, AP4, AP5 beta, IRUS Full/VANILLA: lessons and suggestions

First of all IMHO they have to be considered BETA, AP4 and IRUS are final Beta, and AP5 is a "Technical Preview" .
I've tested at 192 and 128 DPI and I use the ATHENA as "second" phone, mainly as "mobile computer". I am very happy with my DASH latest 6.1 ROM as empowered PHONE
Ultra Lite (Taxist)
Great rom, fast, stable. SPL 3.5
CONS
1) No quickgps
2) No subdisplay
3) No powerpoint
and some other small things
Fix needed: .NET fix (check thread)
Application /Utility Changed
File explorer.... resco file (needs registration)
Images browsing.... resco image (needs registration)
Media Player.... Coreplayer
Start menu.... Quickmenu
Task manager.... Wisbar Lite
SIP..... Vgakey
Comm Manger.... WM6.1 standard
I've added:
HTC home all DPI
Schaps Advanced Config
Xnview (image editor)
Tom Tom
Memmaid
My registred Resco File Manager
Opera 9 Diamond
PocketRAR
PocketCM
.NET fix (check thread)
PRO
1) First time with ozVGA, no problems with my commonly used application, more controls than realvga, no 128 DPI
2) Fastest rom ever seen for ATHENA, lot of storage and memory, a ROM for Professional User!
AP4:
CONS
1) Needs a "special SPL" (3.5), fully contained in the setup file
2) Slow, something to fix, read the thread and AP4 WIKI.
3) Low in Free RAM and resources
4) No way (till now, cmonex is working) to flash back to the HTC original ROM or AP2. AP3 special edition or IRUS SPL 3.5 are the only alternate rom available if you have SPL 3.5
PRO
WM6.1, a very fresh build
Vueflo, the accelerometer turns the screen portrait/landscape just rotating it
Many utilities
IRUS 6.1
CONS
1) opening contacts in 128 DPI you have a blank page, the same bug is in the AP5 beta
2) Older WM6.1 build
3) Needs "tuning": missing HSDPA Icon, date/time in the upper bar too big, powersave disabled for connections, windows media has to be started at 192 DPI, unchecked the option "start in library" and apply ATHENA PRoject windows media player fix, to have it working in all resolutions.
The easiest way to solve many registry fix is is to install schaps advanced config
4) small keyboard
PRO
FAST, faster than AP4, very "responsive", more free memory and system resources,
Doesn't need "special SPL", easy to flashback to the HTC original ROM
There are FULL, LITE, and VANILLA releases
AP5:
It isn't a REAL beta, many things aren't working, Pawel will fix, but in this stage is just a technical preview, slow and buggy, nice DIAMOND graphic.
Promishing... No evaluation
I AM USING...
IRUS LITE, (I don't need many of the full preinstalled appz) plus
Quickmenu 2.7 (rotate screen and MANY utilities, beautiful in 128 DPI)
WKTASK xxx73c (latest, best task manager)
Diamond Commanager (using large blue buttons)
Dinarsoft memmaid
HTC Audio manager
HTC Home all DPIs
Oziexplorer
PocketCM (+ registry tweak to set it as default contact application)
Opera 9 latest build
Pocket Rar
REAL VGA
Resco explorer 2007 (+registry and ftp add in)
Resco keyboard pro (VGA fingertouch Kb)
Schaps advanced config
Today agenda (home screen plugin for planning)
Tom Tom 6
Vjcandela
WM6 remote desktop
Fresh start: Program Memory: total 100,84, in use 37,48, free 63,36

I agree with you. I prefer stability of IRUS -vanilla in my case- but the bluetooth consumption (I have a mbw-150) is a problem.
Irus, could you have a look on this issue? I am not experencied and surely will say an stupid thing, but looks your bluetooth check more often the connection that ap5, and this could justify the high consume.
On the other side this bluetooth conection has more quality with your rom that ap5.
Nice job, irus!!!

sergiopi,
Thanks for a great preview, this helps a newbie like i am a lot.
Thanks again!
I think it is good to have comparisons such as this, it gives people an idea of things they can expect from the various roms available.
Cheers
BR
Thanks, updated first post with Ultra Lite comments...
Sergiopi,
Good overview. I use my Athena to work from on the road for days at a time, so it sounds like Ultralight might be the way for me (currently still on AP3 waiting for the dust to settle on the 6.1 ROMs).
Have you tried Softmaker or Fring with Ultralight please?
Iscajames
Sergiopi,
This comparison table is very useful...thanks.
I have also just installed Ultra Lite and can say that while I have only been using it for a day I am very impressed. As you say it seems great for the power user. The speed is phenomenal and stability so far seems good. Program compatibility seems great...all the programs that I use seem to work perfectly.

No, but before checking any sw compatibility, install the .NET fix from the ultra lite thread
Resco explorer or Total Commandar is needed because some rom files have to be replaced. If you try to copy from activesync you will have "error copying file" because the ROM files are write protected

WM 6.1 Stock (look-a-like) ROM for NEW GENE (P3400 and P3400i with S/N HT8xxx)

Hi Friends,
First of all, let me tell you that this is NOT MY ROM. I've found it on the 4PDA forum so i am sharing it with you guys.
IMPORTANT INFO : THIS ROM IS FOR NEW P3400 and P3400i with S/N HT8xxx. I DONT KNOW IT WORKS ON OLDER P3400 OR NOT. NOR I HAVE EXTENSIVELY TESTED IT ON MANY DEVICES. I AM RUNNING IT ON A P3400i with ONBL 1.17.000 and SPL 1.07.Oref.
The Good:
1. This is a Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM with all default features of Windows Mobile 6.1 including the new welcome center etc along with a few HTC customizations.
2. You have about 43 MB of free User Memory after installing this ROM and about 19-20 MB of free RAM.
3. Device runs very fast when compared to the Stock WM 6 ROM.
4. Quiet fast boot up time.
5. The ROM doesn't have any customizations from the creator, ie. It has default boot screen, default About screen etc.
6. No EDGE related problems and No Control Panel icons missing. (This is a problem with lomlom's fusion 9.0 ROM)
The Bad :
1. I doesn't include HTC HOME, although this may not be quoted as a problem. HTC Home hogs quiet a lot of memory than the individual Messaging, Date, Calander and Task plugins.
2. Task manager incuded in the ROM is quiet old one.
3. As with most WM 6.1 ROMs, Windows Live is not working.
Download it from HERE if you have a 4PDA.com account (This is the original location of ROM where i found it: http://4pda.ru/forum/dl/post/132256/ruu_signed.rar
Else download it from here (I uploaded it on 4Shared for people who dont have a 4PDA account) : http://www.4shared.com/file/76614292/60fceda7/WM61_Stock.html
Sorry for not posting any screenshots but believe me, there is nothing special to post as screenshot. Its a very plain, WM 6.1 ROM.
In my opinion, if this ROM had got Windows Live Working, i can definetly quote it as the most wonderful and simplest Windows Mobile 6 ROM for P3400 and P3400i. But sadly enough, Windows live isn't working even after appying fixes and updates. So i guess i'll have to live with the browser version of hotmail.
For users who need MSN messenger functionality can try out Fring, search for it on google. Its a free, multi protocol messenger supporting Yahoo!, GTalk, MSN, AOL and others.
Also for task management features, I would recommend using HomeScreenPlusPlus plugin. Download it for free from this forum.
Enjoy!
UPDATE: I would also recommend reading Post #6 for knowing about my experiance about the ROM after customising it fully.
Thanks a lot for posting the same, here.
Just a couple of doubts, may be silly.
You have stated the following:
2. You have about 43 MB of free User Memory after installing this ROM and about 19-20 MB of free ROM
I guess, it is 19-20 MB free RAM, right?
Secondly, does this ROM contain Touch FLO, pre-installed?...
And finally, how is the file/directory browsing compared to lomlom's ROM?

Yeh, the word is RAM. I've corrected that in my post.
File browsing os working perfectly. i have installed quiet many apps and still the windows folder is opening within 3-5 seconds.
No it does not have TouchFlo installed, it even doesn't have HTC home. Thats why there is so much free space. Its a very plain WM 6.1 ROM with all the features of WM 6.1 but very few customizations.
In fact, to tell you the truth, i dont miss Touch FLO coz it was a memory hogger. And now since it doesn't have HTC home built-in, i have installed HTCHome_1025_721_ALL.cab which is the 6 tab version of the HTC home. The 6th tab contains the music controller which can be used to play music using audio manager right from the HTC home screen.
The only problem this ROM has got is Windows Live! Thats it! I have searched a lot for a fix but haven't found any working one yet.
@ANKIT360 : Buddy as far as i have found out, the problem with Windows Live is connected to two things :
1. The original Windows Live that came in this ROM has some registry keys missing. For example, under HKLM\Services\Windows Live\Platform, the Transport key is missing.
2. There must be some problem with certificates etc that are causing Windows Live to not being able to communicate using SSL(Secure Socket Layer). WIndows Live uses SSL for communication purposes.
Maybe this information help somebody in finding a fix.
Thanks For sharing Man I am Going to try it tonight
Thanks a lot & keep Going
@swapnil_0081: My Pleasure man.
My Experiance with the ROM till now
UPDATE: Did about 25 different experiments with around 11 cabs, changing connections settings and installing different certificates. No avail, Windows Live and Messenger stuck at startup. Now i am not doing any more tries, even deleted the shortcuts to Live and Messenger from Start Menu.
Software i installed:
1. 6 Tab HTC Home plugin and HomeScreen Plus Plus for Today Plugins. HomeScreen Plus Plus also doubles as an always available task switcher and task manager. I needed this functionality very much as the HTC Taskmanager 2.0 is not included and task management is not possible from home screen without the HomeScreenPlusPlus plugin.
2. Mundu IM for muti protocol messaging, its paid but its great. It can connect to all the chat services and can do things that Fring cannot do, for example, adding new messenger friends.
3. WM5Storage for Mass Storage Mode
4. Resco File Explorer and GFinder+ for managing files.
5. TCPMP, YouTube, Nitrogen (Great Audio Player!), Flash Player 7, Flash Lite 2.1 and Real Player for Multimedia.
6. Opera 8.60 and Opera Mini 4.2 (Mini has great browsing speed with full website browsing, normal Opera is great for other stuff)
7. Yahoo Go! and Google Maps for maps and positioning.
7. iContact BERT Edition for finger scrolling Contacts, PCMImageViewer for Touch friendly Image Viewer and PCM Keyboard .14 for touch friendly keyboard.
8. Advance Config, FDCSoft TaskMgr 3.1, ClearTemp, PIMBackup, psShutXP, SoftKey (for changing functions of both softkeys on Today screen) and SKTools for system tweaking.
9. FDCSoft StartMenu for desktop Windows like cascading menu. Requires very less resources and normal start menu remains accessible as well. PointUI Home as an alternate shell.
10. Misc Software including FlashSMS (for sending SMS which show up directly on screen instead of going into inbox), CHMReader (for reading e-books in CHM format), Picsel Browser (A great E-book and document Reader), PocketRAR 3.8, SQL Server CE 3.5 with Query Analyzer (Databases can be created directly on device), VSPainter Lite (MS Painbrush like APP), Wordnet CE (Pocket Dictionary with a huge word database of 66 MB), Gerald Caller Location (It shows the network name and area name of person that is calling or being called, for India only) and OBEXinfo (changes the location to recieve files via bluetooth to SD Card.

With such a comprehensive list of software installed, i have about 28 MB User space free, and 16-18 MB of RAM free after 10 minutes of system startup with HTC Home, Homescreen plus plus, Tasks and Appointment plugins running. And with default caching, FileSystem performance is good, Windows folder opening within 5-7 seconds of taping
Isn't is amazing guys! This ROM is quiet good, much better than others.
So far only 3 problem i have identified :
1. Windows Live (The hotmail part, messenger part is solved with Mundu IM) not working.
2. In the Encryption option in System Tab of Settings, the checkbox remains always checked although files are not being encypted (In other words, using encryption is not possible, but people dont use it anyways, mostly).
3. An Old version of task manager with no Today screen task management support is given. This could be solved by using th task manager or HomeScreen plus plus which is better due to the fact that it can be accessed anytime to switch between applications

In short, i will recommend this ROM to everyone who wants to use WM 6.1 with faster device response. A little bit of tweaking, some software and a 2-4 GB of good quality memory card will make your gene as closely feature rich as other costly phones.
PHEW! Long Post! Sorry guys if you get bored from this post. But i wanted to share my experiance in detail with everyone.

First of all, thanks a lot for taking time for hosting as well as testing and giving such a long feedback. Really appreciate... You have been simply superb in this forum.
But, I am still a bit reluctant to flash this ROM over Fusion, just because of that RAM avaialbility. In Fusion, I have around 23 to 24 MB RAM free, even after running TouchFlo, Wisbar advance etc., as well as after installing a huge amount of softwares (some of them in storage itself), I still have around 16 MB free in ROM. So, I am just perplexed, as why should I flash this one.
The only advantage, I can make out in this rom, is fast "windows" directory browsing as well as booting. But, I feel these are the items which we don't do each now and then. Even, I am pretty satisfied about the responsiveness of Fusion rom, such as switching applications etc. Moreover, responsiveness of TouchFlo has been simply great, and never felt it as a memory hogger, as its RAM consumption has been consistent and may be because of the 28 MB free RAM, provided by Fusion on start-up.
I have also attached a screenshort here, in which you can see that around 20.21 MB RAM is free, even when the ROM is running Touch Flo, Wisbar Advance, Hi-Calc, Resco Explorer, Excel (with a document loaded) and SPB screenshort applications. There may be even other applications such as SPB Keyboard in the background. Isn't it cool? Moreover, swiching applications have been instantaneous too. When I click on the icon of a running application on the Wisbar, the app is displayed immediately, within a second.
Again, I am not at all trying to downplay the efforts put by you to upload this ROM on a mirror and give us not only the access but also the feedbacks and support. Just wanted to put the points here. May be, you will come up with valid arguments and make me flash this one. Just because you must be knowing much more about these stuffs than me, who is almost a newb.
Best Regards...
Hi Dheeraj!
Buddy, if the lomlom's ROM is working for that much great for you, you have no reason to flash this. In my case, it was not. I got only 16-19 MB free without running any app whatsoever, in the case of lomlom's. Plus there were icons missing in Settings tab, and small inconsistensies here and there. Moreover since i tinker around with my phone a lot currently, accessing the \Windows folder is a routine task for me, and with lomlom's ROM i was having a lot of problem with that. Talking about Manilla 2D, ya it looks fancy but after a week of use, i found that its not that usable with me, personally. For me the charm of it was over.
And apart from all this, I always wanted a ROM that works like stock WM 6 ROM of HTC, in short, gives the "Original" look to my phone but still provides me with all the features of WM 6.1. I dont know why but i dont like it when the original OS is crippled in anyway. In this ROM, nothing is missing from the original WM 6.1 installation as described on the feature comparison page for Windows Mobile on Microsoft website.
So in short, its a matter of personal tastes. Our needs are a bit different and so are our ROMS I guess if you dont feel any problem with lomlom's then stick with it. Its a great ROM too and i and other members have solved almost all problems that happen with it after first time boot, so someone should use the result of those efforts too
When i came to this forum, i found that GENE users and specially those with NEW GENE were just crying around with SPL problems and nothing was there as a choice for them in terms of ROM availability. Thats why i decided to do whatever efforts i can to make things better for this part of the forum, ie. The GENE section. Now, i am not a social worker, but i feel for people whom problems i can sense becuase i also have them
Thanks for your complements
HTC Applications in this rom like home plugin, comm manager ,task manager , audio manager, album are very old versions
Can any one help me to update that one
or cook this rom with newer versions ????????
Home plugin? its not even there buddy! ya the ROM is a bit old, but works nicely.
Help !!!!!
hi guys ...i have a new gene (s/n ht8xxx) can any one tell me the steps to update my old wm5 to the new one step by step ...... please .....
Buddy, the way is completly described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2953612&postcount=2
Not to offend you or anything, please try to search before posting. Many of the custom ROM flashing problems with P3400 and P3400i have been already solved. Just a suggestion, Ok buddy.
And ya, although that tutorial references the lomlom's fusion ROM, you can use the ROM described in this thread too if you want to. The procedure is same, only use this ROM in place of fusion one.

Speed...

I know this has been mentioned in several posts but nothing I have seen compiling a bunch of peoples opinions into one post..So here goes:
Out of the 6.1 and 6.5 ROMs what do you see as being the fastest ROM - fastest as in responsiveness to screen taps, scrolling, animations etc.. And also fast as in how well will it play movies (I know this is a very subjective one as results will vary with how the movie has been encoded).
My results have been:
Fastest - Michy's 6.5 Clean Edition; It seems to scroll very well, load opera fast and when i load up SPB 3 on it the animations to screen swipes are smother that any other ROM. Issues are batt life seems to be a lot less than other 6.1 ROM's. I also notice the Bluetooth seems to not cut out as much with this ROM so that's a plus.
Downside is there are a few bugs still in this ROM (I know Mitchy is and has worked hard to iron them out..and many thanks to him for that!!)
Movies seem to play (for me) better with this ROM as well. the same movie will have less lag and sound sync issues with this ROM..almost like there is a better driver in this ROM for graphics? Also I did not add any codec bundles or anything...just as the ROM came and added CorePlayer..
I still find myself using the Mitchy's Clean 6.1 ROM just due to almost no bugs and longer batt life...almost as fast if you keep as much RAM free as you can with it but still not as fast as his 6.5 ROM I currently have about 62 MB with everything installed that i like to run on it.
Please post your take on what you find is faster for you and your setup.
My setup:
Mitchy 6.1 Clean ROM
Programs Added:
SPB 3
SoftMaker office 2008 - loaded on mem card
Memaid
Calendar Touch
Resco Radio
WMWifiRouter
C-ApiSRO (XM and Sirius player)
Core Player
Google maps
Opera
MSVC
WinMobileTorrent
Numpty (great game!)
After Soft reset:
free Storage - 95.64
free Program - 61.25
for the 6.5 ROM the RAM was about 14MB less with all the same loaded..would love to get all this onto a very clean 6.5 ROM and see how much better the performance can be!
Just wish I had the know-how to cook ROM's!
Please post your results too

[Q]: HTC HD2 simple ROM

Hello,
I'm after a few (around 8...) full ROM changes and I'm broken... Can I ask you guys an adivse ?
Right now i have on my HTC HD2 original ROM [sunnysoft] + spb mobile shell
3.5 and MSkip-ProPlus_WP7_V4.0_WVGA.
My needs are simple:
- WM 6.5 [in Poland exist a navi soft called "Automapa for WM", is't one of the best at all on the market [possible high customisations with basic programming skills on menu and design]
- Office 2010 (including Outlook and OneNote) [I'm mail's and OneNote a very heavy users, more than 150 daily]
- No Manilia and others not critical applications [footprint, fb, twitter] (i need a lot of space because of the e-mails!)
- Windows phone 7 design (I use spb 3.5 with extension - from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=649362), meaby something better?
Could I ask to advise about with ROM is really stable (as I mentioned I'm heavy daily users and it's difficult for me to experiment more), very light and with Office 2010 as critical requirment ? Position of the menu-beam [top or bottom] is not important for me (as well the language, the phone is from poland but english language is fine).
Thanks in advance,
Michal
