I've installed this app like an alternative to gpsgate, but it's not working: no detection of tosh gps receiver/signal.
Any help is highly appreciated...
Thanks!
I tried GpsPlex as well and could not get it to work with my TG01.
So i installed GPSGate and my TomTom works fine.
I agree. If you need gpsgate tell me I have it.

Cooooooooooool
Problem solved!!!
After some web research and a lot of device tapping&softreset here we are:
1.start/settings/system/external gps/-programs/com4 and hardware/none&baud 4800;
2.start/gpsplex/gps/seleccionar gps/gps local/leave V:4800/Puerto serie:com4:No instalado/Acceptar/ok(in the top right corner) resulting a window with:
-bottom left corner com4 to comx(remember comx for your future settings in navig softw);
-top left corner gps coordinates;
-center a few satelites;
3.tap GPS(bottom left corner)/Ocultar(minimise) gpsplex;
4.start navig softw
5. go gps software settings (if necesary) and put port comx, baud 4800(or else, seems to be irrelevant for some gps softwares:I'm not 100% sure).
I recommend gpsplex (like a good alternative to gpsgate) when needed for 2 reasons:
- it's FREEE
- low resources consumer.
Enjoy!
P.S. For further questions DO NOT HESITATE to contact me...
what's the point of using this app instead of gpsgate? what's the point of using gpsgate, and not directly a navigation software?
Take a guess...
I'm using minimum 3 different gps apps, some of them are not ''kissing'' each other(not compatible) regarding gps port sharing(I'm not sure this is correct expression): handling connecting of all these could be pretty messy without it(gpsgate/gpsplex/whatever)...
You're welcome!

I use GPS Mod Driver 2.60 in my tg01. And tomtom works whit internal gps really well.
GPSplex
I have two navigation programs on my Windows XP PC. This device has an internal GPS receiver. Do I need something like GPSplex or GPSgate to use the receiver for both programs? I will not be running both at the same time. I am asking because Garmin Mobile PC detects the receiver but iGO8 doesn't.

IMO you have to use gpsplex/gpsgate 'cause, as far as I know, there are compatibility problems between mentioned gps apps while sharing same gps port.

I agree, forget gpsgate and gplsplex! This works so much better than either of those (I know Ive tried them) The added bonus for me was not having to remember to start gpsgate before running Tomtom, because this runs itself automatically! Great little driver.

CoPilot works fine
TeleNav works fine in 128dpi except it doesn't overwrite a small section at the bottom of the screen, where the previous window shows through. This is just a minor display artifact and everything works well.
iGuidance, which I used to use, has issues in the setup menus as 128dpi. I found many things to be drawn indirectly, but once you have your destination entered, the maps look fine and are usable. However, I found the interface issues very distracting and I gave it up at least for now.
While TeleNav isn't quite as responsive to updating your position and requires a live data connection, I found it had better search abilities and better voice announcements. Plus it seems to keep improving. So I'm going with TeleNav for now.
Hi
I've tried the following and they all work nicely - cannot really decide although they all have something that make them unique and nice
TomTom 6.x 8/10 Looks exactly like TomTom Navigator
Garmin Mobile XT 8/10 Wish I hadn't bought that Nuvi ...
Google Maps 8/10 Free and Aerial Photos
Navigon 8/10 Best looking interface
currently I havent made up my mind yet they all are very good
Regards
Frikkie
CoPilot 7 is better than any of them
Google Maps isn't full route planner / guidance - I use it quite a lot but not in the car - very good though.

$200 is pretty high! Here are a few questions:
1. It comes on a microSD. Can files just be transferred to a miniSD that has larger capacity? Otherwise, this eats up a slot.
2. Does the "download central" include updated maps? Or what is the policy on getting updates? I know with iGuidance I had to repay each year for new maps, which was kinda irritating.
Thanks!
In the UK you can just by it with UK maps so it's cheaper. I believe in the US you can only buy it with the whole of the US maps which is why it is more expensive (it is if you buy the whole of Europe maps)
If you want updated maps I believe you have to pay for them but how often do you need to update them?
iGuidance, 192, 128, 96 dpi

i had to spring for GPSGate to get it to work on y x7501 ( to port com4 to com1), but iGuidance 4.0 costs about US$100.

I have Garmin Mobile XT installed that I have used with the Garmin GPS10 bluetooth receiver.
Is there a way to make Mobile XT use the internal GPS? When I start it, it scans bluetooth for gps device. I don't see any other options.
Garmin Beta
I think if you search Garmin's website there is a beta version which uses internal gps in the new test rom
Even if that is true the maps are still locked to your GPS10's serial number. You will need to use GPSGate to emulate the Garmin GPS protocol and cloak your GPS10's serial number. I am looking for a version of Mobile XT which will use the internal GPS as well. I'd love to ditch my GPS10 and go all internal. I like Mobile XT a lot and since I paid for Garmin maps I want to use them!
I am using Garmin with the internal GPS, I cant really point you in the right direction because this sort of "talk" is prohibited here but it can be done quite easily.
Post on getting Garmin XT to work with the Internal GPS is in my FAQ:

OK ummm... WOW!!!
All I can say is that Garmin Mobile XT is awesome! After a little hacking (not discussing here...Vancelot, PM me if you want info) I got the software unlocked to allow non-garmin GPS receivers. This software works with the intermediary driver so no launcher is necessary. It works like a charm! Now I don't feel so bad for buying the new maps nor the GPS10 receiver... even though I don't need it
I spotted a copy of Garmin 2009 recently and downloaded it. By chance can anyone here tell me their experiences with TomTom compared to Garmin?

I started out with TomTom...very good app. A friend of mine had me give Garmin XT a try...another good app. I'm starting to prefer Garmin though. It "was" easier to use with the intermidiate driver when I had dcd 3.1.6 installed...since 3.56 and 3.2.0 all have gone to hell...works very sporadically.
The biggest difference to me is with Garmin I can select just a few states about 4 or 5 and load them on my storage card (115 megs) as opposed to TomTom with no way to select the states you want (that I know of) to my storage card (just about 1 gig worth).

Good info proxcee...yeah I am still on 3.16 I may pause here for a moment...
Between the two apps, how did the maps look or the map rendering as it navigated along? ...about the same. I like on the car version how it shows buildings but this might not be an option for the mobile version...???
One thing I was looking for that the TomTom does not do was to see if Garmin Mobile app announce street names for the next turn...???

You won't find that on mobile GPS software (as far as I know). I haven't tested TomTom7 yet, but neither TomTom6 or Garmin Mobile XT supports text to speech street names.

This is a nice feather but before I jump ship how does it compare to tt6? Or Garmin is someone has compared,
I don't own Iguidance but I've used it on a friend's device, so my comments here are someone limited. I find the interface of TT6 and Iguidance to be equally good (neither struck me as having any particular weaknesses of note). The displays are good and menu navigation is intuitive and easy.
TomTom offers "plus" services like weather and traffice....Iguidance does not appear to.
Iguidance may require some tweaking with GPSGate to get it to work properly on the Mogul. This guide at ppcgeeks gives some insight:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=248345&postcount=282
There are tons of comparisons on the Internet. A quick glance this morning showed that it's a mixed bag as to what people prefer. I hope this is helpful.

i had both of these on my phone at the same time to compare, i kept the tomtom and kiboshed the garmin. with the tomtom the maps just worked, while with garmin i had to select maps by small sections from my desktop to have them work. I also prefered the tomtom menu system and found the poi's to be superior.
Garmin Mobile XT for WM6.1 pro
Hi,
I am new to Garmin, just installed Garmin Mobile XT v5.00.10w(cracked) in my HTC Touch 3G, i found that it tooks too long time for "Awaiting better GPS Accuracy" while i am driving on the road where the weather is actually good(clear sky). Sometimes can be 20-30mins long for "start navigation".
Can anybody advise me what's problem with my Garmin? Is this a setting problem? Or it doesn't cracked properly? It was cracked by the HTC shop's promoter where i bought it.
Besides, i tried to copy additional vehicles into "vehicles" folder, and when i launch Garmin, it becomes trial version, but it disappear after i deleted the newly copied vehicle files from the vehicles' folder.
Could you please kindly advise me?
Thank you in advance for your advise..
Vincent
I use tt6 and was looking for a backup and since iGuidance call the street names I picked this one...
Testing iGuidance on my vx6800 has been bad...first:
1. The GPS does not move properly or track as I drive. It just sits there then eventually it will move
2. Keep in mind #1...when I purposely miss a turn it takes it forever to recalculate. I can be a 1/4 or 1/2 mile down the road before the screen moves or do anything as in #1
This is iGuidance v4 and I am on rom 3.12 radio 3.39. Keep in mind that tt6 works like a charm fast, accurate as I drive, recalculates instantly...for iGuidance I do have the maps & app running on my sd card just like tt6..
so what gives with this app..?
I'm having the same problem. Subscribing to this thread for further feedback.
Sorry to here that...hoping others who use it have found a tweak fix...
Out of curiosity, do you use GPSGate and the instructions here:

GPS Gate is, definately, the solution. I have been using it since the GPS was enabled in March with no problems. www.gpsgate.com

I will read this but can you two give a layout on how you use this and how it works for you? This thread is on iGuidance so my initial assumption is the info you posted will help us with iGuidance and overcome it's lack of not tracking with the car....???
Pls advise...
thx
I've only played with Iguidance on a friend's Mogul (I'm a bit more tech savvy so I often help him out). All I can say is we were unable to get it to work properly for weeks....until we found the above information. Prior to GPSGate the maps would not load (hang) or routing would be extremely slow. Now it is snappy with no lags...no lost signal...etc.. The steps are rather clear in the above link.

I can't get that link to work. Can someone give me the low down on how to use GPSGate to fix this? I'd like to see if IGuidance can work for me. I've played with iGO a bit and while it looks really nice, it also just about locks up me device in terms of all the memory used. iGuiance uses a LOT less memory so I can actually use some other stuff with it.
As I understand it, GPSGate works as an intermediary driver between IGuidance and the Windows Mobile GPS driver, by emulating the output of the GPS onto another port (user selectable), which IGuidance reads without a problem (and updates in realtime, no lag). It fixed the problem for me. More info can be found in the GPS internal FAQ. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=363431
The Astro launcher & script written by TalynOne is very good for launching GPS Gate, Astro launcher and IGuidance all at the same time.
Just start GPSGate when you start Iguidance. Make sure your ports are setup correct and it will just work.
Good luck.
Have any of you tried iGo 8? It's fantastic, and by far the BEST interface of any of the GPS progs out there.

Yes, I have, and I do like the appearance far more than iGuidance. However, iGO chews up HUGE amounts of RAM. iGuidance runs much leaner, meaning I can have more going on without locking up my device.
I still have to completely test iGuidance, but it appears to do what I need it to do, a little less pretty, but I can live with that if it works better for me.
Ok, I'll chime in but not sure how much this will help...
I'm running the stock Verizon 6.1 ROM with Valhalla's MR1 GPS fix and Franson's GPS Gate. What I have to do is make sure that GPS is open under WM GPS (allowing me to use the built-in GPS chipset in conjuction with Valhalla's program). Once the GPS Icon is green (under 7 seconds) then I can launch IGuidance and everything works fine.
I noticed you mentioned that you are using 4.0 - the version I have is 4.0.2 which is supposed to fix some bugs that 4.0 had.

Your right. The thread that covers the application explains the fix. Its becuase those apps are access the comport still instead of the Windows Mobile daemon(?) for GPS. You need to install a third party app that will grab the de-obfuscated data and redirect it to a soft comport that these apps will use. The program that was recommend was called Franson GPS gate. It will take the data and reroutes it to another "Com port"
All of the details are in the Adapter thread. Check it out around page 18 or so...
I got it working great for me but its just too much crap to get GPS when you can flash to a custom ROM and not have to worry about two third party apps.
Eitherway, good luck.
Custom roms are great, i've used them almost since I bought the 6800.If I want verizon to upgrade me to a better phone, I need to log complaints against the stock rom. using these little tricks keeps the phone serviceable at any given time while affording me a semi "custom" rom feel that I have grown accustomed to.
any sugestions
i cant get the gps to wirk in tomtom still even using gps gate so could anyone recomend a good rom i would love to keep all the functions of the stock wm6.1 but have gps features as well.

What happens?
Even using gps gate the gps doesnt lock on my position. i get 5 to 8 satalites but then cant pinpoint where i am. There is a huge standared diviation when i look up my location upward of 100000 feet. google maps uses the same gps and port but knows exactly where i am.
I found the navigon mobile software to work quite well. Acquire it as you see fit. Mostly works with European maps but US are available. Im using Mobile Navigator 6.XX. cant remember. Got screwed by verizon and bought iPhone. but i will still offer advice. After contract is up if verizon can shape up i can get an android capable phone if they offer it.
I've heard you can't use the new TomTom 7 on this device because it has no touchscreen.
Has anyone experience with navigation software on the Rose?
The servicedesk of Tomtom couldn't answer my question because they weren't familiar with this device yet.
I'm using Copilot Live 7, works like a charm.
Well, technically you can use TomTom 7. You just have to use FakeCursor (or similar utility) to emulate screen taps. I have tried it and it works, but is not really usable.
So far I have also tried:
Garmin XT Mobile - does work, but I don't like the interface
Sygic McGuider - does work and I like it, use it and recommend it
TomTom 5.xx - does work, but has only older maps available
I tried TomTom 7 and it won't work because you need to be able to tap the screen. I didn't even know you can use a programme that emulates screen taps.
I'm off to bed!
Do not lose your time and use Sygic McGuider. It is best I can recommend for the smartphone.

I believe it isn't. This site (in Slovak) http://www.presne.sk/sygic-mcguider-p405 lists it for 66€.

could you tell us some more details for garmin mobile xt?

I can confirm this, Mcguider is the best navigation software i have used thus far.
Its more accurate and faster than tomtom.
Its not free but tomtom is not as well.
if you buy it its €80,- otherwise you can always look for it in your favorite download channels (can not advertise those on these forums)
As I saw Sygic McGuider 2009 comes preinstalled on a 4GB microSDHC card (with 2GB free for other use :-( ). Can I copy the SW onto my 8GB card and it still works?
Most probably yes.
