why should i use the modaco rom over the stock? i am not really convinced to do it and the modaco rom also deletes some features, so why should i still take it?
Could you explain why you asking this question?
to know the ups and downs of the modaco rom compared to the stock one
The MCR is faster and a nice stable, free to adjust and modify ROM. That simple.

does the modaco also play 3d games much fast and better or is just the same?
I guess that comes to your phone and the processor, graphic chip and whatever, i dont know. I mean installing XP professional instead of XP Home doesnt make your machine faster, but maybe better.
Just my opinion but shouldnt the modaco rom be discussed on modaco forums? seeing as on there they arent too happy with someone posting it up here without permission?
i would also like to know what features are told to be deleted? not by default, but with the kitchen you can leave out apps you don't want (twitter, stocks, footprints etc). the regular mcr is a generic rom with added features and improvements. if you are refering to the missing 2g/3g switch in mcr3.2 (the aforementioned closed beta), this is because the rom being built on a hutchinson 3 rom, which doesn't have this feature from the beginning. it can be done via 3rd party apps/widgets from the market nevertheless. if you want generic htc with paul's improvements go for mcr3.1.
imho it is absolutely ok to discuss this rom here. the problem with it being posted here was about taking a "closed" (as in only for modaco premium members) beta version, making a rom from it and post that here. and that was only discussed by other users, and (afaik, please correct me) never mentioned by paul (a.k.a. modaco) himself.
Indeed, of course we can discuss anything we like about MoDaCo here.
No functionality is removed by MoDaCo ROMs; the experience is pretty much identical to stock hero, except it's rooted, slightly faster, and a few extra apps are included by default.
It's by no means the best ROM around at the moment though. If you want a ROM of this type, it's been surpassed by Kimera.
I liked the MCR ROMs because they were my first taste of a rooted ROM, while it stayed as close to a shipped ROM as possible. The only problem I had with it was the distorted icon that showed up whenever you opened a Flash applet on a wepage -- On the shipped ROMs this didn't happen though.
The best thing I got from the MCR ROM was the task killer tweak, which elimates the sluggishness found in the stock ROM. Plus I often use Wi-Fi tethering (so that I can use my phone as a router), Titanium Backup (only allowed for root) and paid apps with Market Enabler.
If you go to modaco.com you can pay for his beta 3.2 ROM, which has an online kitchen so you can select which components you want added to the ROM. Pretty cool idea.
However, if you want even more control over what is in your ROM (including the actual files themselves and not checkboxes on a forum post), then just use my Hero Kitchen which has all the basic options for creating a rooted ROM from a shipped release. I would recommend you try MCR first though, so that you have a feel for what you want in a ROM.

just so there is no misunderstanding, you pay to support modaco, not for the rom. you get the rom as a bonus for your ad-free membership. the kitchen is available for the public by now, you can cook your own mcr3.1 for free.
This thread is wrong, its not only the Modaco, its all the ROMs. Remember that we thankfully have many great chefs and all the cooked ROMs offer some benefit over the stock.
I advise you stop asking and start flashing and see for your self instead of asking.

Yes, sorry, I stated it in a wrong way. The money is a donation to help him maintain the very busy server he uses for ROMs. Wow, I never realized 3.1 had the free online kitchen!

I agree with shiyou, what is the point of upgrading? My stock tmobile rom seems pretty stable and fast, is there a reason to go through the whole rigomarole of rooting it and so on! especially when there is an imminent release of an official 2.1 release from HTC.

Well if you feel like that then no there is no need to do it.
However rooting is an easy (ish) task and once it is done you have the freedom to try things on your phone you can't do without it. E.g. get a taste of a 2.1 rom now.
It is easy to say that your current rom is fast and stable, but until you try another rom you have nothing to compare it to anyway so for all you know after trying another rom you might end up thinking "why the hell did I not do this months ago"

No official WM6 ROM released for Prophet. The last official ROM is WM5 from Qtek.
As for the best, it depends on your definition. More software packaged? Faster in response? or shorter booting time? How about long term stress test with less memory leak?
It also depends on to what extent you are willing to reconfigure it. No on-size-fits-all.
To me, stability and speed go above all other features. Less software packed mean less possibility to go wrong. Korand's new ROM offers these. I got around 30 software already installed on my SD card, with only one patch of CAB to make up registry and shortcut, all of them runs well.
When something went wrong, it's easier to debug, simply hard reset to original ROM state. (Not if your ROM has already got a lot of software and tweak.)
I like Korand's philosophy to build a clean ROM as platform to others. If anything not so perfect, that would be no Power Point mobile, mms, windows live messenger, and java, make it less official look.
However, Power Point is rather impractical mess in a small screen, the same to mms, WLM, without 3G.
It's really up to personal requirement to decide which one is the best. To me, besides speed and stability, the one puts most fundamental, unchanging stuff inside the ROM, and leaves out constantly upgrading stuff outside, is the best for me, partly because i can do the addon myself.
Here i would also like to take the liberty to implore the authors of cooked ROM, or forum moderators, since many guys ask which ROM is the best for them, why not do a more organized form, list to put on the top of forum.
A clean ROM, the common platform to those variants, can be pick out as a lead, like a pedigree, so people can be easier on tracing problem.
On the other hand, as a user, a beggar can't be a chooser, no author got paid here, so, try and choose one best fit your need...Good luck...

Thanks Man
I'm completely baffled by the ammount of roms available for this device.
How do I decide which one to use ?
Any personal experience from others that have used multiple roms ?
Which ones do you like the most ?
What should I be looking for ?
Thanks.
I've tried them all and Proven ROM is my favorite without question. Followed closely by Romeos and then NATF's ROM.
It's a personal preference thing anyways, just pick one and try it You'll probably try them all before you finally figure out what you're happy with.
My rule of thumb, just pick the one with the most viewed counts
Proven ROM is fast and reliable - I use 1.03. Having tried most ROM's available for the available for the TP, in my opinion Proven is your man and 1.03 is simply magnificient.

Same here, you can try proven if you like speed and extra tf3d tabs etc,if you may not like that you can use romeOs.
Build 19971/19974 are based on stable and official roms and the difference is mostly in what applications and languages are included. Builds like 20757 are experimental ones and may contain unstable applications and components from for instance the Touch HD. So you have a choice - live on the edge, or go for something that will definitely work, regardless. PROven rom looks interesting for instance, but I'll wait for another couple of revisions until qsqa has worked all the kinks out.
afaik 20757 is an official, stable build from HTC (released for touch pro hd)
when porting is done correctly, no device-dependant components are upgraded, only the underlying operating system.. so providing the porting is done correctly, no unstable applications and components from other devices will be brought in as a result Again assuming the source ROM is an officially released base.. there are plenty of others that are not!

The choice of ROM is very personal, and depends upon your needs.
I myself am using the latest build of ROMeOS, and its simply great.
This rom is very fast, responsive, has nice apps and all the great registry tweaks included. On top of that, monx® is providing us with regular updates, and support (even for Rom's with languages totally 'new' to him) you only expect from paying services. Just take a quick look @ the ROMeOS topics, and you'll be amazed...
Maybe you could add a poll to your topic?

To get certain things that stock ROMS don't have. Like: Speed, not loaded with Carrier crap.
The ROM post should have info about what is included and what isn't.
Some are made to have more RAM some are made to run Smoother.
Wiki.
I might be wrong, but that is what I have learned overtime.

Good Question
I am glad you asked this because I have been wondering the same thing.
I have the VZW Touch Pro and was reading a LOT on unlocking and then flashing ROMs. I didnt know really what the benefits were besides speed and making it smoother. Does the ROM allow you to have better themes?
Eventually (sooner than later I think) they will be able to unlock the GPS on VZW as well.
I really wish somebody could post a video or something on YouTube on either how to go about the process or what it looks like after flashing a custom ROM.

Custom ROM"s are highly varried. You need to try them out.
I created a Custom ROM that allows you to stay with the 100% stock look, MUCH MUCH faster than ROM that came with phone.
Lots of others add a bunch of crapware and bloatware to the ROM. I didint do that to this one. I left it stock. It runs very fast.
Custom ROM"s also remove some securuity features like when youa re installing an app you are not questioned if its what you really want to do... Etc...]
Custom ROM's can also c ome with differnt themes like you inquired. They can com completly set up or come completely base. It all depends on what you want to download.
My Carrier is Sprint,
I am fairly happy with the phone as is
My only gripes are that:
it is not as responsive going from app to app as I would like
some of the apps I will never use, like the Sprint music store...
I love to diddle and play with my hardware
I do like touch-flo 3D, I think it's a nice UI, I just wish it was a bit more responsive

Thank you so much for the information scrosler! I also read your other thread about the custom ROM you made. I am very thankful for you taking the time to do this for us VZW allies. I am a first to admit that I am a noob at unlocking and flashing ROMs. I dont doubt that I could simply follow the detailed instructions that you have given us. I just want to make sure that the payoff is worth it.
Is there anyway (this really may be asking too much) that you could post a video so we could see exactly what your ROM looks like and the increased speed. Or even a video of the process? Maybe even some screen shots.
I know I will end up unlocking and flashing any day. I have my phone set up just the way I like it with many beneficial programs installed, but it is not fast enough or responsive enough. I personally don't use the Touch Flo (as sexy at it looks) just because the WinMo UI works a lot better for me and is more responsive.
Again, thank you for being so kind and sharing your knowledge and not demeaning us or being rude for all the questions we ask I greatly appreciate the time and dedication it takes to create something like this and I respect it!

I cant do a video, lack the ability, hehehe... I can however tell you this:
It looks and actis identical to the Stock ROM from VZW except is was built on a new CE OS. Its considerably snapier than the stock ROM in everything from boot up to touchflo scrolling.
Its 99.99% stock. The only differnece is the speed, IE 6, ICS, and Net CF 3.5 is all cooked in. It, unlike all other custom ROM's, has all stock VZW apps and the VZW touchFlow. Its a straight rip from a stock VZW leaked ROM. The details ont he ROM and the kitchen used are in the new thread.
Its just to easy to do.
Download file A, run it. Download file B, run it. Its not that much harder in all honesty.

Another stupid question...
Well I think this would be the appropriate thread to ask this.
I was wondering if there was any way to put 2 today screens into one instead of having to switch. Basically I am wanting a Touch Flo today screen at the top and the bottom half I would like to have a WinMo today screen with the two quick buttons at the bottom. Is this possible or am I just wanting too much? It seems like the themes for the Touch Flo look much better and I LOVE the black themes.
Any info. would be much appreciated!

Amen to that.. .LOL
I have tried (almost) all of the cooked ROM's in this Rapahel forum. Some put more emphasis on being faster and lighter than the stock and others just a better all-around package, enhancements and fixes. Each one and his own tastes with what they are looking for. There are also those who are just fine with the stock.
Trying out new ROM's is a trial and error experience and it takes time until you hit the one you like, but it is also fun and addictive... , I'm totally an addict.
If you are not quite pleased with performance or something about your phone and tweaks are not something that can fix it- you have come to the right place.

No of course not, this is a forum filled with HTC Stock ROM fanatics...
To be honest I always wondered, what makes them so special.
I mean what (except additional programs or OS build updates) they do "better" that I cannot do by just registry tweaking etc.
It would be VERY helpful if there was a list with comparing bias, extras etc.

I will have to say yes, the cooked roms are better than the stock one.
Mine is majorly faster than it was out of the box, the GPS works better, and programs are using less memory. Most things you might be able to achieve on your own, however most include updates to the drivers for the wireless, video card, os, etc that you would not be able to do yourself (or at least not easily)

Lol, yes. Its like a whole new phone. ATT stock ROM was so laggy I almost wanted to return the whole thing. That's just my anecdotal experience, next time I flash the stock ROM I'll bench it if you want.
CFC compressed TF3D and such, plenty of cooked-in optimizations contributed from all over the community that the stock ROM has no idea about, you can't replicate a good chef's ROM with reghacks alone.

I also have a wing and a touch pro. I found the AT&T stock rom to be ok vs my wing custom rom. I then loaded a lot of the roms on the forum and seen how much better it could be. No overloaded os, way more memory, more gps tools, unlocked HSDPA/HSUPA, super fast speeds vs stock rom, working 3d drivers (on some but not all custom roms) and alot more changes. Try out RRE rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467592. Its the best rom I have every used on any wm device.

Oddly enough, I ran the stock Fuze ROM for a while, and I'd agree completely that out of the box it is slllloooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I flashed a few ROM's ,eventually settled on RRE until the later versions started exhibiting serious battery drain issues. I flashed back to stock to wait for a fix for that and right now the STOCK AT&T FUZE ROM is as fast and stable as RRE, with all the great battery of the original.

funny you should say that, but a co-worker of mine did do that, he returned it shortly after getting it. I was able to convince him to get it again, and allow me to "re-flash" (that was after he played with mine and was impressed)
So how do I go about flashing a CDMA Touch Pro? I hear that the HardSPL program out there doesn't work with CDMA phones.

bad grammar, stupid question. Of course they are better, they have different drivers, newer applications, and have stuff added that can only be cooked in. Some of the stuff you can add through cabs and by messing with the registry but everything is faster cooked in
*** I posted this in the HD2 TMo US forums, but I think it will be a quicker reply here ***
So, I have had my HD2 for a few days now (5), and I am thinking of flashing a custom ROM this morning. Here is what I am curious about...
Question 1: Will the stock flip clock/weather be replaced? I am, for some reason, a HUGE fan of the stock flip clock and the weather animations (sun rays, lightning, etc), and I don't want to loose that. Is it included with most cooked ROMs, or would I lose it? I know there are different versions, but I really like the look of the stock one, and it's size, format, etc.
Question 2: I have added a number of programs and registry tweaks since I picked it up last week. From my experience flashing Android ROMs, I am fairly sure I will loose all the apps I installed, but that's no biggie. What about all the registry tweaks to speed up the device though? Are those included in most cooked ROMs, or will I have to do them again... or, will I even need them with fast ROMs? There was one to raise the DPP from 16 -> 24, which I liked a lot.
Question 3: What is the fastest and most inclusive ROM for a US-TMo HD2? I know that aesthetics are subjective, but what about pure performance, and the number of tweaks and additions added? Especially ROMs that already include apps like CHT and BsB, and maybe Reg Editors?
Also, I know I need to do HSPL first, but do I do that while the stock ROM is in place? Will that wipe the ROM, or will I do the HSPL then boot normally into my stock ROM?
I know that's a lot to ask, but I would REALLY appreciate the help. I come from modding Android phones and am new to WM6.5+, so while I am constantly reading to learn, there is a LOT to learn, so I want to make sure I am getting into something I will be happy with, rather than regret...
Thanks !!!

*** I posted this in the HD2 TMo US forums, but I think it will be a quicker reply here ***
So, I have had my HD2 for a few days now (5), and I am thinking of flashing a custom ROM this morning. Here is what I am curious about...

Probably shouldn't double post this
Question 1: Will the stock flip clock/weather be replaced? I am, for some reason, a HUGE fan of the stock flip clock and the weather animations (sun rays, lightning, etc), and I don't want to loose that. Is it included with most cooked ROMs, or would I lose it? I know there are different versions, but I really like the look of the stock one, and it's size, format, etc.

Most ROM's have Sense interface, this will give you the flip clock, but there are other mods, like Cookie and MaxSense, that take it up to the next level

When you flash a new ROM, you phone is wiped. However, most roms' contain performance tweaks already, and have some apps installed. Every ROM is differant, you need to see what each offers.

I recomend Energy ROM the 21XXX Series. It works fine on T-Mobile, but read teh first few posts, to get an idea of whats included. You will also want to do a task 29 before flashing the ROM. Read the stick thread in this forum, for a link to the task29 thread. Also read teh last 10 pages of the NRG thread, on how best to flash your phone. You will need to HSPL the phone, and you may (but not required) want to change your radio. Again read the thread for details.
Also, I know I need to do HSPL first, but do I do that while the stock ROM is in place? Will that wipe the ROM, or will I do the HSPL then boot normally into my stock ROM?

HSPL will not wipe your phone, and needs to be done prior to flashing a custom ROM

You will want to read, read and read before asking more questions, as many questions you have have been asked and answered many times. I suggest you read the first few posts in a rom thread, a few times, if not sure, and the last 10-20 pages, to get an idea of what has changed, or issues people have. And, only after reading (The FAQ Section is important) ask your questions, if not answered. Again, NRG offers many versions, so give them a try, you will be happy!
I should add, there is a post floating around that has the t-mobile apps (Visual voice mail is probably the only one you need) that you can install onto any NRG build. NRG also cooks up a TMOUS specific build, but that has some added bloatware, and is often updated last.
Please read the Sticky/ tutorials laying around this forum.
In regard to stuffs that you fancy on th estock ROMs (weather animation, etc), please go to the cooked ROM's page and ask people around, or even the chef, they'll answer you.
Please go to CleanEX ROM's page HERE, and try a ROM that suits your application. Well, it suits me.
Thread moved to Q&A.
