Dropped in the potty, will be buying another. I have taken this one apart to look around inside. Wanted to check for memory card and any other color change water damage stickers inside--there is one. ---------I am also going to take vid of the strength of the screen. Ima try to scratch the hell out of it, and see what it takes to break/crack the screen as well , interested in seeing how durable it is. Update later -

Very interesting. Couldn't wait to see it and sorry it happened to ya.
Perhaps you can make a step-by-step vid instruction on how to disassembling and reassembling the Amaze as it will be very helpful for others in case they needed it.

agreed, teardown sticky ftw!
phone isn't ruined water does not damage the phone, only if there was chlorine in the water like a pool. Only thing that can get damaged by the water is the LED bulbs and a new LCD display will be needed at most that's worst case scenario. I fix water damaged phones all the time. Stick it in a bowl of dry rise for a few days that some times help.
@ celltimemb. I didnt know bout the LED fix. Good to know. BUT- I didnt drop it in then pull it out. A kiddie put it there and i found it there later. Put the cell on calcium chloride (Damp-rid) I use this to pull moisture out of many things. Didnt help so i figured pay the deductible and play with the remains. --Yeah i'll do a tear-down vid before the screen test. I had it apart already-I will have s/o record me this wknd.
I think you should re-enact the toilet scene too.
Dont forget the last part
"Will it blend?" video
OH SHIZNIT! Now that WOULD be HTC AmAzInG!
I would love to see how easy it is to scratch the screen with a single grain of sand.

Elaborate please ?
I was under the impression youd have to get lucky there wasnt much current going through for the water damage to be survivable. ((i.e if youre in the middle of web surfing when it takes a dip its likely a goner))
I'm curious too. Does it depend on the phone also? I have friends who dropped their *phones in and it wouldn't work anymore. Probably a Apple thing though.

I have (in the past 15 years or so) revive quite a few cell phones after water damage. What I usually do is to remove the battery immediately and start drying the device completely using air conditioner and hair dryer. Corrosion will kill the mainboard so when I have a driver handy, I open up the case and dip it in a bowl of rice, too.
I don't think we can revive batteries after fully soaked in water, though.
The worst case was when my friend went ocean swimming with his iphone in his pocket. We did everything but it didn't come back. But when he replaced his battery a few days later, the phone came back on.
Doing the screen test, any ideas on what to use and ways to scratch it? I have some ideas. I have the shatter/crack test figured out already.

other than keys n change you could try rubbing sand between the screen and a credit card.
Any updates on this? Kinda wanted to see how tough the screen is. A tear down guide would probably be useful as well.

i'd cry like a little girl....for days.
Excellent video. Thanks for the information.
My daughter god bless her, was playing with my wifes phone taking pictures when as the title suggest she dropped it it in the pool.
I quickly pulled battery and let the heat of the sun dry it out, last night I finally managed to get some rice and let it sit for maybe 9 or so hours.
Powered up just now, camera works but no actual picture is taken, just a blank screen. I had to fix permissions I had a ton of fc errors.
So you think I should open it up and dry it out and maybe spray it down with compressed air?
It still has basic functions working, like phone data ect, just camera seems borked.

I probably would not use or be very cautious with the compressed air, cause it can easily rip parts off the board.
Just look if there's already a sign of corrosion and try to wipe it off.

Give it as much time as you can to dry off. Even the memory card. Might want to try to do a full reset and see if that helps.
If you have insurance you might want to look at a few threads here about people being offered the Epic and Original Evo. Don't take anything less than a SGII

I have a hair dryer so Ill use that.
We are on vacation so Ill have to buy a screwdriver unless the Hotel has a little something available.
Thanks for the detailed links, much appreciated. I too was very surprised it worked, I think my clam shell case helped to keep the water out.
My daughter is happy getting mommy a new phone would have blew it for her getting a phone for back to school.

Insurance, interesting. I do recall this 5 dollar charge for some type of accident insurance. Phone is only 8-9 months old.

The problem actually isn't the water usually. It the rust and corroded contacts points left as that water dries. If its been as long as you say be grateful the phone still works at all. Especially the speakers(the water usually kills them on xontact).
With as many hours as you say have passed the damage is done. You need to put it in dry rice or salt or the little sodium pellets IMMEDIATELY

I don't if the EVO 3D does but other phones have strips inside that change color once it gets wet. So they can tell if the phone has been immersed in water like dropping it in a toilet or pool.
Its usually the first thing they check for under a warranty claim. They check to see if the phone was immersed in water.
Such a thing is usually not covered under warranty.

If you pay for additional insurance you are covered after a fifty to one hundred dollar deductible. Everything is covered..theft,fire,water damage, etc..
If you are under manufacturer warranty only, then you are screwed they will always send the phone back and cite water damage. They only cover manufacturers defects.
Just popping in here, we would use denatured achohol to clean phones, it will evaporate the water from corroding the contacts.
Watch out if you have cuts on your fingers if you try it.

To add to that, a hair dryer or compressed air might actually push water deeper in or, in the hair dryer's case, melt something.

It's funny how a missing comma can confuse people . I meant that the hair dryer could melt something. The dryer or compressed air could push water deeper into the phone. I fixed my post to clarify.

I have not tried this because mercifully I have not dropped phone in the water yet. But years ago when I had instrumentation on high pressure pipelines, sometimes a seal would break and we would wind up with salt water all in the equipment. We would wash it down with distilled water, then to completely evaporate all the water, we would put it in a vacuum chamber. As the air pressure drops, the boiling point of water drops and the water literally boils away. I wonder if one of those space bags you connect to a vacuum cleaner would draw enough to make that work?
Don't know but something to file away for the next water accident.
Scar is right, we used Denatured Alcohol, every time I saw a phone come in with liquid, one of two things happened:
the customer was an ******* so i sent them on their marry little way to Asurion
OR
I took the phone apart, ignored the LDI's, gave that sucker a good alcohol bath, replaced the part malfunctioning like in your case the camera and gave it back to them.
I personally (just me) wouldn't use a blow dryer on anything like this, those parts are sensitive to heat unless you know what you're doing. I'm sure you can find a nice tech and they'll try and fix it for ya or they'll replace it unless you dont have TEP then you're screwed both ways, and for that I'm sorry
Funny I was thinking alcohol as well.
I have the phone apart now, it was super easy and the hotel im in had a nice screw driver set.
I have several sd cards and few new sims i can activate a new one when i get home.
Back in the day when I benched pc's I sprayed the motherboard and gpu with conformal spray ( we have it at work) Wondering if that would stop any corrosion from occurring.
Im not against trying for warranty but its my fault not failure so I would be upfront and see what if anything they would do. I have 3 lines and 7 year customer, maybe that will mean something.
Thanks for all the advice and suggestions, very much appreciated
Sorry to be off topic but it is sorta still on topic.. ill explain...
I got a macbook pro from someone the other day. They spilled milk on it and the keyboard doesnt work. I was gonna get some denatured alcohol and clean it but ive never done it. How would this be done? Do you actually just sit the board in it for a couple hours or do you just wipe it down with something, if so, what? Im also wondering this just in case i need to do this to any other electronic, like my 3d. Thanks for any help guys.

I dropped my Evo LTE yesterday and it fell flat on the screen. No case and no insurance. The glass is shattered but everything still works. I sort of wonder if my screen protector is holding the glass together right now. But the touchscreen works fine over the entire screen.
Any ideas what I need to buy from here, http://www.etradesupply.com/htc/android-models/htc-evo-4g-lte.html?
You're going to need the screen, and maybe the digitizer. I'd personally take it to sprint to fix because its gonna be cheaper than what they are charging there.
If you do it yourself, prepare for a nightmare. There are things that the repair videos don't tell you and make it look easy. The battery is basically glued in, so taking it out feels like you're breaking it. Same goes for removing the cover under the glossy back of the phone. The camera kind of sticks to that and you'll feel like you're going to rip it right off the motherboard.
I went through this twice. Installed a new front half of the phone to find the replacement didn't work. Went through the entire process again with a different screen. Too much time spent doing this that I'll never get back.

Some kiosks in malls do screen replacements. I'm not sure if they do EVO LTE yet but my sister iPhone screen was replaced and works wonderfully.

Hello!
I have a dark, bit transparent but noticeable spot on my camera. I opened my Photon and tried to use the camera with no cover on it, but the spot has still been there. I tried to clean the lens and it didn't help too.
When I opened it I have completely voided my warranty (SBF won't help anymore), so I'm not gonna send it to Motorola.
I'm using CM9 right now, and the spot has been there with another custom ROM too.
Does anybody have an idea better than flashing SBF? I don't want to flash the SBF, it takes a lot of time, and it's not so likely to help.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Almost definitely a hardware problem. You literally can't see any sort of smudge on the lens? What did you clean it with? You would need to use a glasses cloth or something of the sort to clean it properly.
Also, I don't know if the Photon has one, but did you break any sort of a seal when you took the phone apart? If not, you can SBF back (takes literally about 10-15 minutes). They don't fix accidental damage but im pretty sure if its a hardware malfunction they will replace it regardless of if you have insurance.

Thanks for your answer.
I tried to clean it with a rolled piece of paper. I inserted it into the hole of the camera till in touched the lens. Moved it all over the lens and touched the spot while watching the camera app, but it didn't help. The spot is still there.
Unfortunately, I broke a seal when I took the phone apart. I didn't know that it was under Motorola's warranty, since I bought it on eBay. Now that I know that there was a warranty for a year from the purchase, I regret what I did. But it's too late.

Thanks, but I don't think I'm gonna lie. I really violated the warranty terms. It's much more than unlocking.
Ok ive done alot of screens on phones, but this one stumps me, nothing about it online either lol.
So my GF of course, her screen is cracked, i bought replacement glass. But this thing has NO screws!! lol
Does anyone have any insight on how to replace the glass?? i can unclip the bottom clip to the glass,
Im wondering if ya just heat the glass and remove it from the top and the clip slides in a slot at the bottom?
Thanks guys
Did you ever figure it out??
Just wondering if you ever figured the LG Zone 3 phone out. I had a customer bring this phone in for repair today, and I've done quite a bit of cell phone and tablet repairs....but I've never seen a phone quite like this. So, I assume, maybe just using a pry tool running up the side after applying heat to the screen? I took the back cover off and was like you.....confused. Wondering if you ever figured it out before I get into this. Thanks
I Figured it out and decided to make a quick video for you all as well.
