I will be willing to answer any questions you have regarding wm6
my first impressions of it are pretty good... its running quite stable on my athena with apps installed
-spb mobile shell (does not work if autohide is disabled)
-spb brain evolution
-spb diary (installing this did significantly slow it down)
-wisbar advance beta 4
-resco explorer
-resco keyboard
-ae button plus
-wm5storage
-htc audio plugin
there are some more but im copying some files so i cant use the phone
intially its very very fast... much faster than wm5 noticbly so
It does seem to support native vga as in device info the resolution is listed at 640x480
i dont however see the terminal client for remote login... i could be lookin in the wrong place? i dunno
the included dialer skin / theme is quite nice
Everything seems to be working flawlessly i havent tried voip yet...
IE data speeds seem to be significantly faster for me... as compared to wm5
Ill be posting more later once i use it a bit more...
Mind to share Windows Media Player Skin
No issues found yet. The device seems *a lot* snappier, and indeed the GPS fix occurs a lot faster. I now also suddenly have a fix inhouse ... (allbeit near the window). In WM5 that simply would not happen.

This resolution is listed in the WM5 too, does your device have smaller buttons, menus etc?

no the icon sizes seem the same but when I try to install a qvga skin it takes up the same portion when running previosly in wm5 with truevga mode
so I think it is truevga mode
also while typing the text prediciont works real well
Ergh, can I get rid of the horrible GREEN comm manager?
Other than that, its wm6 again.. Ahh, sigh of releif.
If you change the theme of your device to the windows default and then restart it should get rid of the horrible skin. For some reason mine kept the phone dialler skin until I had restarted again, but now it's not so green any more.
My first impressions are that the device itself runs very well with WM6. So far no real hassles. The only thing I have discovered is that TomTom 6 now thinks my device is a new device so it looks like WM6 has changed the hardware ID. I am still able to use my device. I had to manually active the maps though and the TomTom application for downloading maps and updates won't let me change my device to the 'new' one.

Yep, the buttons are large. I'm not quite with you with the other comment, could you post a screenshot? Have you managed to get the smaller homescreen top/bottom bars without installing VGA hack software?
Apart from that, everything is a lot faster, typing on the keyboard is more responsive and I'm happy, deffo worth it just for the proper email client alone.

well for example if you use a plugin for a qvga device...
it wont fill the screen
it only takes the same amount of screen space as it would on a qvga device
ie about 1/4 of the screen (i would post a pic but i removed the software)
so that leads me to believe its vga
no VoIp
I can't find the option, did you find it?

Hi boinger66,
My main reason for getting the athena is because I do a lot of reading & editing on-the-go mostly pdfs, docs, spreadsheets & powerpoint files. Can you tell me if using these programs with lots of words on-screen (PIE, pdfs, docs, xls) whether there is an increase in the real estate? Is there less scrolling etc, just like you'd see with the vga hacks? Also, are options available to change the resolutions on the fly? Does using the "High Res" option in PIE make a huge difference than before?
Many thanks for your help
Abe.

The IE high resolution and fit to screen do help, but it also makes the test pretty small. As an example, when displaying yahoo.com, and set to high resolution and fit to screen; the whole width of the web page is displayed.
hey can i install antena wm6.0 in o2 atom life....pls try to help me out...
pls send some sdp softwares to my mail [email protected]

let me answer your questions....
1)there is no increase in real estate vs wm5 except in PIE
2)There no no option to change resolution on the fly
3)Yes it does (Pie and Hi-res)
these comments are based on my experience with uni and not athena but are valid for all VGA devices
Additionally there have been reports that VGA Hacks don't work with the later cores of wm6 (the release candidate)
faster than wm5. i had it on xda exec and when i changed to x7500 I kinda missed it but its back baby.
I was happy to see wm6 yesterday. i bought an iphone to see how it is and i was actually disappointed but wm6 made my day.
Thank you xda-dev.
Guys try using Mvr True VGA 1.2 it works..
i dont think you guys are understanding what i am saying
it is true vga
they just made the icons and buttons the same size for easy viewing
if you make smaller icons you get the realestate increase
for example if you install a qvga plug in it will not work...
it will take up the upper left corner of the screen only ... this can be observed by installing the htc audio manage today screen plugin
"Uni" VGA resolution file may work for Athena
I think some expert developers needs to extract the VGA<->QVGA toggle cab files or setup files from "Universal WM6 ROM" and give a try....
May be it will work for our Athena as well....
What do you guys say?
I was really hoping that new ROM is gonna solve this problem...and we will not have to use TrueVga type hacks...
WM6 is fast
Battery problem still here
The Battery problem is still here. You can see only 10, 20, 30, 40 % .... but never 94 %
can we have similar upper lower bars on wm5 like wm6 has by replacing some files
No, you'll need another program (Wisbar) because it's WM5.
Or you can have a look >>here<<
There is a lite version also for wisbar which doesn't takes as much ram as the advanced and makes bars looks nicer than default ones
gr8 youre the best ric69 ,thats what i needed on my wm5 plus a stable battery backup thats it.there is also a discussion on this page http://www.ppc-welt.info/community/showthread.php?t=110472&highlight=WM6 about this software needs clear type to be turned off to display bar characters clearly (but its in other language)
the screen shot below is of wm5 with skin mobile 5 ver 1.1
Hello!
I've just bought my first pda (so I am new on that), a secondhand 02 Atom life in ebay, and I want to upgrade the rom.
Can someone tell me if there is any diference between these two officials roms: http://www.mwg.com/atom-life_wm6.aspx and http://www.myxda.com/xda-atom-life_wm6.aspx. Apparently, they seem the same...
If there are any differences, could you tell me the pros and cons? Are there any utilities/applications differences? Stability? Batteries issues?
Furthermore I want a fingertouchfriendly interface (don't like stylus). I am thinking about manila 2D, spb shell 2, wisdbar advance 3 or iphonzlike themes. I don't care too much about beautiful design or cool animations, more about something usefull and thrifty from the battery, ram, ressources consumption or compatibility point of vue.
What would you recommend me?
Actually are wisdwar advance or themes like iphonz slowing down pda performance or consuming extra ram?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!
I would recommend you use the following ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448074
and install M2D from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2761662&postcount=3885
(Don't bother with the additional files, they don't work on Atom Life)
The ROM is fast and reliable and is the setup I have passed on to my daughter now she is using my Atom Life. It has finger friendly touchflo (you need to enable it in Settings) and is very finger and user friendly.
Skins for M2D can be found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=451702
( I always preferred the MBarvian Diamond Skin from the top row of post 6. Perhaps that's why I have a Diamond now.
The MWG and O2 ROMS are stable but they're also full of rubbish that no one ever uses and hog memory.
I would also recommend the EZinput Keyboard suite from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426281&highlight=ezinput
Don't forget that with this you need to install not only the keyboard suite but the right language pack for you. These are found in post 4
I hope this helps
Thanks Blibble!!! I'm going to try your setup. It looks just fine for me!
Hello!
I got the set up you propose and I experienced that battery runs faster than in o2 wm 6 rom, do you experience same thing? Could it be because of the rom or m2d? Are skins making slower performance or consuming battery? In that case I will stay with m2d with no skin... That's fine for me.
Furthermore, I can't watch youtube videos (I downloaded alldevices 19b M2D), do I need an especial application to watch flash multimedia?
Can actually someone recommend a free multimedia player to watch avi, flash and others formats?
I would apreciate a taskmanager to really close programs and not let them in Ram and making me go to standard taskmanager every 5 minutes to close them. Can someone recommend a good one? I thought M2D had one....
I don't find the settings window usefull, is there anyway to configure it and add/remove my preferred settings tools instead of the useless ones that appear?
Finally, is Sktools an usefull tool?
THANKS TO ALL IN ADVANCE!!!!
I have open ears for evey recommendation to optimize my device!!!
I forgort it... This rom has deleted outlook mobile and java support? I don't find them...
Hello all!
I try this rom with SPB Shell and Pocket Plus (wonderful taskmanager, file exploring and internet browser options) with animation disabled and it runs much better and I find it more functional, useful and customizable and no bugs, no issues... I didn't have time to compare battery life yet... But with manila it was 21-22 free ram and with SPB it is 23-24 free ram... I am also going to try sktools and sk shorcut manager for full performance and customization.
For multimedia player I am trying dvix player, core player and TCPMP...
I still don't know if I can run jad or jar aplications... I try a few and I think I can't...
Hope this information will be useful! For now I am very happy with this device and I order a 3200 mAh ultra capacity battery from worcell with sony japanese cells and just 4 mm thicker.
In this thread I will post updated roms for Iolite when are available.
The main configuration will be the same. I will update only SYS and XIP with new builds.
Roms are WWE(I can upload greek version too if some want to)
Included:
all Iolite's EXT packages, exept htc camera, EzInput and phone canvas which are from mega packages.
Excluded:
Manila
Enlarge start menu
Htc Gesture
Google Maps
TomTom navigator
Opera browser
Large tittlebar
Outlook enhancement
RSS Hub
TouchFlo
Other Applications
Slide2Shutdown
RichasHideSIM
GLight
Boot package 1.3
Showcase Suite
Iolite's Operatorpackages replaced with MEGA's
(Patched hardSPL required to flash any custom rom. You can find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=552481)
ATTENTION:I don't test these builds, cause I don't use any more this device for everyday use(i moved to an android device).
I just flash the roms to see if are ok, which sould, cause the configuration is the same and only the sys-xip part is new.

I'm downloading 081 now. please wait for further info (BELOW)
SO:
a) Installation takes exactly 5 minutes (from the moment the rom is inserted into the device till first reboot)
b)Storage memory is 323.50 free
c)Ram memory is 137.41 free (after second reboot)
It's fast.
P.S. The startup screen has a whole new beautiful animation.
Well done once more dancer_69. Your rom is a jewel.
I checked your 23081 to see what's new in the world of WM65 =)
It looks like - nothing new...
Look at my screenshots -
1. PhoneCanvas has scrollbar on the right side - what is it for?
2. Total Commander - look at the bottom line - icons are overlapped, toolbar is unusable as in previous builds...
Hope this will help you in making your ROM better.
Thank you for your work.
=)
3. Long Press Call (green) key gives me error - some program is mapped to it but not installed.
4. CommManager -> Menu Settings -> Phone does nothing. I didn't find Phone Settings at all.
5. I cannot open jpeg files (from the first screen) - "There is no application associated..." is displayed...
6. Right top corner on the first screen - iolite task manager icon overlaps clocks...

1. This is phone canvas issue and exists in all wm6.5.1 versions with new style buttons.Hexediting of phcanrc.dll fix this, but I've lost my edited file.
2. Same reason and for this issue. But showcase task manager can fix it I think(I know that can fix resco explorer's same issue)
3.Long press for green button can assigned to any application from settings -> personal->buttons it is tap & hold button.
4. Com manager phone works fine for me and I didn't change anything. It's Iolite's original commanager.
5. I didn't mention this issue until now, but it's very easy to fix. Just associate with image viewer.
6. Iolite task manager, again is disigned for previous wm versions(6.1, 6.5 old style). And it's not usuable in these versions. I plan to exclude it in future versions.
The most of the above issues are because of incompability with wm6.5.1 and are common problems.
The most serius problem in these new builds is that the device doesn't wakeup after sleep mode, crashes and needs soft reset. Did you have this problem?
yes, after I pressed power key I couldn't wake up my device.
Some one ask me if I can build a ROM based on WM 6.5.1 and
I loaded this ROM as I just wanted to see how latest WM6.5.1 build looks like...
IMHO it's too many problems now.
I reverted to wm6.1.
when you say greek version you mean greek language?that would be great!can you upload it?
yes, so I'll upload 23502 greek version now.
guys, please get this stable if possible - would love one of these later ROMs on my phone. I have 6.5.1 on my Polaris and Prophet working quite well but the Iolite is my main phone at the moment and I'm not very impressed with the performance of the 6.5 ROMs for it.
cheers!
thanks dancer_69!

Hey howerya! How are ya?
maybe you are referring to 23081 or 23075. if you read the posts, it is mentioned that there is a bug in both (device doesn't come back from sleep)that springs from the builds themselves and appears to be worthless for the developers to lose time trying to fix them as new builds are frequently born. you should try 23502 or 23504 which happen to be (as i have tried them myself) the most stable 6.5.1 builds existing in this forum (and for iolite, perhaps in the whole net...).
hope that helps!

I tried 23502 and it looks a lot better than some of the earlier builds. I do miss manilla though
I don't really know much about the development side of things but are these newer builds more complicated than the 6.5 builds? There doesn't seem to be much interest (from the Iolite devs) in 6.5.1 which I find it hard to understand since 6.5.1 is so much nicer to use. I think the only builds so far have come from dancer (I appreciate the work btw.)
Cheers!

I myself do not know much about developing too but I have tried 6.5.1 (dancer_69’s of course) and apparently there isn't much difference between 6.5 and 6.5.1 builds apart from some visual ones. I think this is why devs don’t bother to look at them (some devs use details from 6.5.1 but yes, dancer_69 is the only one cooking for Iolite complete roms and he’s cooking them really well). 6.5.1 also showed some bugs (as you read in my previous post) in their early appearance. You do the math! Come to think of it though, windows mobile is on the whole becoming a little oldy in terms of drastic changes in its UI. They definitely have become more finger-friendly (this is the main difference in 6.5.1) but that’s it. That said we should wait for the new windows mobile 7 if we want to see something really new!

The UI changes in the newer builds (i.e. the Start, OK etc. buttons at the bottom and the larger, more thumb-friendly, menus) are a huge bonus (my personal opinion). I have also, however, noticed quite an improvement in performance with some of the builds.
I'm not sure I agree with your comment on the devs with respect to their lack of interest in the newer builds - I have only noticed this lack of interest with the Iolite devs (dancer being the exception, of course). There seems to be a lot more interest in the other forums resulting in many excellent ROMs. Maybe the sheer lack of devs for the Iolite would explain this.
I too am really looking forward to WM7 but as is often the case I want it yesterday
I've been using nothing other than HTC WM devices since the XDA2 over 6 years ago and have been longing for the day when I no longer need the stylus. Big up to dancer for his efforts in getting us closer to WM7 a little sooner!!

You’re right, I should have cleared it out. I was also referring to Iolite developers. And it’s pretty shame ‘cause iolite is a really nice device with nice potentials, far from inferior to other firms’.
So, I guess we’ ll have to go on with these pretty roms for the time being and not before long we’ ll be seeing WM7 rising!!! Don’t worry: yesterday is near!
And dancer_69, if you’re reading this, I’m sure you’ll find a more challenging arena for your talent!
So long!
Hi, got an HD2, tmobile unlocked, the setting tab is missing the sound and display, wallpaper, etc., the only way to get to them is through winmo (menu-all settings), so i was wondering if there is any way i can get them back to use them with sense. thank you.
winmo 6.5
manila 2.5.2012
os version 5.2.21982
rom version 2.13.531.1 (90963) wwe
do you mean that the settings tab starts at 'security, application, sd card & phone ,,,,, blahblah?'
Because if so, put your finger anywhere on the screen, and ,,,,,
(wait for it)
,,,,,,,
drag the list in a smooth downwards motion,,,,,
for some reason the settings tab on some roms seems to default to displaying the bottom half of the list, many people have been caught out by this,.
HAHAHAHA Thank you so much, i feel stooopid, hahahaha.
hehe, ya not the first, nor will you be the last.
