Hello everyone,
I bought my HTC Hero device 6 months ago from Expansys.
Two days ago my screen gone crazy and started having a life of its own - swiping between screens, typing my touch keypad by itself and so on...
Rebooted the phone and the life issue gone away but my bottom area of the screen stop responding to touch.
wiped, hard reset, flash all ROMs possible incl. Stock ROM.... nothing helped...
Apparently this is a known issue and the screen is a faulty one...
Anyway, now both Expansys and HTC told me I should send my device to them for repair...
My question is: where do you think I should send it for repair - Expansys or directly to HTC?
I was thinking maybe HTC will just repair the screen and maybe Expansys will send me a new one faster...
What do you think?
Thanks!
Working on the assumption that you bought it from Expansys UK, you should return it to Expansys. Your contract of sale is with Expansys, not HTC, and therefore according to the Sale of Goods act, it is Expansys who are required to provide any remedy. See here for details.
Regards,
Dave

Thanks for the reply!
Basically I wonder who will give me the best service?
Do you think HTC will just repair the screen and return me the same device? which will take longer and will always be open for same error to return.
Or do you think Expansys will send me a new device instead of even fixing it?
I couldn't say for sure.
My concern would be if you send it direct to HTC, they may end up just sending it straight back because their contract of sale is with Expansys and not you, or worse try to charge you for any repair.
Regards,
Dave

Although I still have HTC 1 year warranty...
But in that case I think, as you said, it is best to send it to Expansys...
Thank you!
Update: sending to HTC as I spoke with Expansys and they told me they're going to send it to HTC anyways so it would be best if I send it directly to HTC to shorten the repair time.

Ok so my Titan decided to die today, No warning whatsoever, The screen would not light up and the battery drained rapidly heating up the rear casing to a dangerous level, Not a happy puppy, Due for collection on Weds to be repaired at HTC Huntington, The thing is I do not have proof of purchase as it was bought on ebay and the IMEI codes on the device and box do not match, HTC phoned just now querying the IMEI that I gave saying it was not a valid one for the Titan, Am beginning to wonder if they will now say it is beyond repair or that I will have to foot the repair bill due to no proof of purchase etc, Oh well back to my trusty HD2 for now, So long Titan, It's been emotional........
If you want a new phone you should go to a operator, you pay 20 € more but then you have even a warranty for this .
If my Titan gets stolen within 1 year, I get a new one for free ^^
I am sorry for you and your old titan I pray that it will be fun in the mobile heaven and that it
rings very happily with the other phones there.
It is in a better place now.
Thanks, Yes normally I would go for an upgrade through O2 but am not due until march next year, Not so good having a 24 month contract, The contract phone I did have was a HD7 which I sold to a family member, But I did hate it as it was pre Mango, Hopefully I will get either this one repaired or no doubt buy another but this time make sure its brand new, In the words of Arnie "I'll be back"
Just a question ?
If you got this off ebay did you contact the seller about imei number issue ''IMEI that I gave saying it was not a valid one'' if there is something wrong then you can try for a paypal resolution if the seller cant give you a good reason for this wrong imei number. Worth thinking about ?
Mark
Thanks, I did find out from the seller that the phone had already been a replacement for his original Titan, Makes me wonder if it was a repaired/returned handset,Was meant to be the replacement I received, Its too late now to go for pay pal claim as I bought it early Jan and that normally takes a while to get refund etc, It is currently at HTC repair centre and hopefully being sorted, I haven't heard anymore from them and fingers crossed all will be fine, Using a HD7 currently and the screen seems so small lol
Got my Titan back today, Not bad going seeing as it was picked up last Wednesday 29th, Looking at the repair sheet they basically replaced : FRU-SUB ASSY,SONY,Black,LCM+Touch Window, Generic,L Sponge,P-Sensor,Poron,ETY PCBA-MAIN BOARD with SKU_ID,band 1,5,8,Regional_ID.......? lol and I now have a new IMEI number , In other words they replaced the lot, Happy that I now have it back, Lets hope this one stands the test of time, Thanks for comments and advice.
Good stuff
Happy for you
Mine is currently in Hong Kong because of the update issue. And I'm from the Philippines. Shipping costed a lot. OS just won't update and getting different errors. It was basically brand new. In fairness htc customer service is very good. Someone from Hong Kong called me yesterday and asked what the issue was. Also htc Philippines keeps on calling me for updates Hope they get it fixed or just give me a new one.
Edit: My phone is still stuck in HK. They won't send it back unless I send them the shipping cost. It's in freakin' HKD. How the hell am I going to send them the money? I mean I have the money, just don't know how. Why the hell couldn't they just send the damn phone to any of their retail stores here in the philippines and I'll give them the money. I'm so tired of going back and forth with them I might just give up. They can have the ****in' phone and I'll just start a hate campaign against them. Ironic since I have been a supproter ever since and I have actually convinced a lot in my office to use HTC phones. Really pissed off! Is there someone like Steve Jobs in HTC? Heard he did things for Apple customers out of the ordinary. No wonder they have such loyal fans.
Must admit on both occasions I have had to send HD2 and Titan back I have been very pleased with the repair service and comms and how quickly they dealt with the problems, No doubt thats not the case for everyone, I guess I have been lucky, best of luck and hope you soon get your Titan sorted soon.
Has anyone got any experience with claiming warranty through Amazon? I bought my S3 a few months ago and now there is an issue with the screen showing a pink splodge to the right
I assumed it would go through Samsung for replacement, but I asked Amazon first and they have already have a new one on the way to me! I tried to get out of them whether I would need to include the charger, cable and earbuds in the return, but they were a bit sketchy about that. Obviously they said they wanted the phone back, even if it wasn't in the original packaging, but they didn't really give an answer either way about the other bits. I can't find the earbuds that came with the phone, so I hope it won't cause them to charge me when they process the return
I remember having a kindle replaced once and they said outright to keep the charger and cable and just return the device.
Anyone have any experience with getting a warranty replacement from them with a mobile?
Thanks :good:
I wouldn't worry about earbuds, due to hygiene regulations they can be of no use to them whatsoever!
I haven't had a warranty replacement from Amazon. I have a question though. Did you have to pay extra for the warranty?

No, I just went on their support thingy and described my problem with the screen and that I have had it a few months and asked who I need to contact to get it repaired. They said they will replace it and sent me a new one within a few minutes (should get it on Tuesday) and issued me with a courier pick up for the old one. I was surprised as I thought Samsung would do it, but I was checking with them first anyway. It could be due to the fact I used a mastercard to pay for it and that gives you extra warranty and protection with things like this.
My HTC One S (early fall-to-bits black version) from Amazon UK was exchanged after a few weeks in a similar way... complete and new one arrived.
One good reason to use them.

Yeah, I've never had a problem with Amazon before, they always give good service. I was glad when they said they would handle my problem rather than Samsung!
Did you have to return all the accessories with your phone?
Had to return my Galaxy S because i got caught in heavy rain and wouldn't work and forgot to send earphones and USB cable but they never even asked and gave me a full refund within a day of them getting it.

I did anyway. The new replacement was an all new sealed box.
Yeah, I think this a new sealed boxed one too. I'll send it all back as it came sans the earbuds as they would just chuck 'em anyway.
Hello xda. A few weeks ago I sold my S3 for $200 and purchased a used silver AT&T HTC one for $450 from an electronics reseller here in OKC, Cdr electronics. I'm outside of my upgrade window and really wanted the One so i figured this was the best and least expensive route. The phone was in almost mint condition. Not a single flaw except the common gap on the speaker grills. I didn't get any packaging or accessories, just the phone itself.
Now about 3 weeks later I've noticed dust and lint under the glass about half an inch in from the volume rocker and it's really starting to bug me. Obviously it's a hardware defect, but I don't have the original receipt, only mine from the reseller. Is their anything i can do? I can return it for a full refund in the next week but I'm curious if there is any warranty at all i can utilize. Would AT&T do anything for me? HTC? Anyone else in this situation? Thanks!
Sent from my HTC One
Since you didn't get the phone from AT&T, I doubt they will give you anything on warranty. HTC warrants the phone for one year from purchase or 15 months from manufacture. The serial number of the phone identifies the manufacture date. If you call HTC, I wouldn't tell them any information they don't ask for. Also, if you send it back to HTC, make sure it is in full stock form. No unlocked boot loader and stock Rom. Remove all evidence of tampering with the device or they will deny warranty.

What kind of warranty did the business give you on purchasing it from them? If it's a shop worth their salt, it's at least 30 days. Can you take it up with them? If not, I would call HTC and talk to them about it. Just as dborgo states, don't mention that it was used and you should be fine. One user on here got caught up by volunteering info he shouldn't have and it cost him money for repairs. Simple Yes or No answers with a few vague responses SHOULD get you what you want.
PM packer2058. He might have a few ideas for you about deceiving, cheating, lying and/or defrauding at&t into giving you 6 replacement phones.

I bought a One off CL and contacted att when I found a defect with the back camera. They sent me a new one with no issues. They had even asked where I purchased the phone and I told them off of a third party. I used the online chat. If you don't get the answer you want on the first call/chat just hang up and contact them right back. You will get through to a person who is helpful. Good luck

The official HTC Warranty
I took a picture of the warranty card that came with my One, since HTC's website is quite obtuse and the info was impossible to find. Basically, the HTC warranty goes to the original purchaser and is not transferable to a third party. That isn't to say that they won't work something out with you, but you should also be prepared to pay for the repairs if they find out.

I would guess your best bet is to go through AT&T. They are pretty good about warranties on the devices they sell. If they show your line using a ONE it shouldn't be a problem. If asked where it was purchased just tell them it was a 3rd party wireless retailer. Worst case scenario, I'm sure HTC will fix it for you but more than likely they will charge you at least 100 bucks. At that point you mine as well return it and buy a new one directly from HTC.
Let us know!

Hi guys,
I'm looking for a cheap deal for the phone for Christmas. After checking the usual mobile network deals I'm not convinced to pay £38/ month for 2 years.
Instead I saw new phones on ebay for £370 from a trusted seller.
Phones come from "outside UK" warehouse(I'm located in the UK) with 2 pin plug. I wonder if these are dodgy deals, or worth trying it?
The seller itself is providing the warranty for one year and they have very good feedback.
Here is one : LINK
I simply could not find a cheaper one around. DO you think I could go ahead with the buy?

e_cell has absolutely no warranty on the phone. I asked them previously and here is the answer:
"Dear soniboy84,
We appreciated your email and thank you for showing interest with our item.
Please be advised that this item is sold without warranty, express or implied. Should you want to avail of a warranty for your item, you may purchase one separately from SquareTrade.

Hmmm, I'm probably in the minority here but I'd beware. Their shipping them in from China and for that price I wouldn't be at all surprised if they're clones. They do have good feedback, but I just don't see how they could possibly sell the real article that cheap without it being dodgy. My guess is if you were able to get it on a network, it would get locked soon after. The other reason I think it's unsafe is that the warranty is with themselves, not an official Sony warranty, which basically means there isn't one.
I'd steer clear.

Thanks for the feedback, that's what I'm looking for.
I'm about 50-50% and I need some more either negative or positive feedback about it to decide.
The problem is that the next phone up on ebay is £419 which is quite high :S
I want to stay on 3 network, so most online phone shops(carphone, mobiles, etc) is out

Hi,
I purchased my Z2 from eBay seller name never-msrp.
I got the phone and it was factory sealed with Dock K36 included in the box. My phone was the Asian version I think since all writing on the box was in Asian, dont know which exact language.
My question is, can I send my phone to Sony in the US for repair? or I am stuck with no warranty? Can I buy other warranty like Square Trade?
Thanks.

Just curious, what issues are you having? My z2 just started having a screen issue, I bought from the same seller. Have a line at the top of the screen that flickers mirroring the bottom of the screen, almost like a row of pixels at the bottom is cut off and displaying at the top. It's bizarre. Like if I tap the soft keys, a row of light glows in unison at the top of the screen in the same place...

Interesting, I just got off the phone with Sony regarding the issue I'm having and they said that I don't have a valid warranty...Hmmm.
i got my Z2 about 4 months ago from eBay (seller: never-msrp),.... i had a problem with my phone so i contacted the seller, unfortunate its the 30 days period already,....
so they directed me to Sony HK (Hong Kong) which was where the phone was original from or sold,.... i told them the problem with my phone,... they tried to help me fix it over the phone but unfortunately we couldn't so they told me that i had to send it over and most likely its covered under the manufacturer warranty,... so they ask me to e-mail them a copy of the receipt / proof of purchase before we can proceed with the process,... so i forward them a copy of the receipt from eBay and also from PayPal,....
they got back to me a day later,... and dismissed my claim because the phone was purchased overseas,.. so they can't fulfill the warranty,....
i guess there's some laws against products being purchased where ever you may be and being sent / used to a different country / overseas....

Just contact Sony USA. They will tell you that your phone is covered but since it was designed and sold for a foreign market they will offer no timeframe for returning it to you. (They say 15 days for USA products) If they have to source parts directly from Hong Kong it can take time. I've done this twice with no problem whatsoever, including my z2 from Tawain. If it helps I've always communicated with Sony via chat on the USA website. I'm 99% positive every Sony phone comes with a 2 year warranty.

Thanks for the thoughts haha. I'm not giving up, just been too busy to take care of this (work, grad school starting back up, wedding planning). Going to try Sony on the live chat tonight after my video uploads to YouTube so I can link them and show the problem. I'll drop a link here too.
Guy at the Sony store was super nice, and thought it was really bizarre. He said they couldn't do anything in store to help though, that corporate had taken all techs out of the stores and any replacements, etc. have to go through being sent in now. Said if I'd been there in like Feb. I'd have just left with a new phone. Oh well, **** happens, I still love the Xperia devices. I just hope that Sony will honor the warranty, as it's an obvious defect.

If they want to be deceitful scum bags then a white lie is in order to get what you rightfully deserve.

Sigh, this looks like my only option. Sony US is telling me that since the IMEI shows that the device was bought in HK (assuming that's where it was imported from), that I would be responsible for the cost of any repairs that need to be done. And the kicker is they can't give me an estimate as to what those repairs would cost.
really Sony?

Mmmm I had a TL I got on Ebay here in the US but the phone was an att model and they didn't care I got it on ebay, I just had to open a service request.
I also got my asian model (need to do the imei lookup) and that Sony don't cover it's warranty here in the US is pretty shocking and something to consider. Maybe it's squaretrade time for me also.
I'd be curious what happens eventually.
Good Luck
