Bought phone from eBay, covered under Sony Warranty? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I purchased my Z2 from eBay seller name never-msrp.
I got the phone and it was factory sealed with Dock K36 included in the box. My phone was the Asian version I think since all writing on the box was in Asian, dont know which exact language.
My question is, can I send my phone to Sony in the US for repair? or I am stuck with no warranty? Can I buy other warranty like Square Trade?
Thanks.

all Sony Xperia devices come with a 2 year warrenty, all you need is your proof of purchase weather it be an email or a physical reciept
your device should also be covered by who your purhcased from if they give a warrenty too

It is covered by the US warranty but they will offer no time frame for repair citing part-sourcing as the reason.

Just curious, what issues are you having? My z2 just started having a screen issue, I bought from the same seller. Have a line at the top of the screen that flickers mirroring the bottom of the screen, almost like a row of pixels at the bottom is cut off and displaying at the top. It's bizarre. Like if I tap the soft keys, a row of light glows in unison at the top of the screen in the same place...

Interesting, I just got off the phone with Sony regarding the issue I'm having and they said that I don't have a valid warranty...Hmmm.

i got my Z2 about 4 months ago from eBay (seller: never-msrp),.... i had a problem with my phone so i contacted the seller, unfortunate its the 30 days period already,....
so they directed me to Sony HK (Hong Kong) which was where the phone was original from or sold,.... i told them the problem with my phone,... they tried to help me fix it over the phone but unfortunately we couldn't so they told me that i had to send it over and most likely its covered under the manufacturer warranty,... so they ask me to e-mail them a copy of the receipt / proof of purchase before we can proceed with the process,... so i forward them a copy of the receipt from eBay and also from PayPal,....
they got back to me a day later,... and dismissed my claim because the phone was purchased overseas,.. so they can't fulfill the warranty,....
i guess there's some laws against products being purchased where ever you may be and being sent / used to a different country / overseas....

Just contact Sony USA. They will tell you that your phone is covered but since it was designed and sold for a foreign market they will offer no timeframe for returning it to you. (They say 15 days for USA products) If they have to source parts directly from Hong Kong it can take time. I've done this twice with no problem whatsoever, including my z2 from Tawain. If it helps I've always communicated with Sony via chat on the USA website. I'm 99% positive every Sony phone comes with a 2 year warranty.

That's who I contacted, the Sony USA service line. I'll try chat later today, that may work better actually since maybe there's a way I can upload pictures into the chat to show my issue.

Well you could always send it through the Hong Kong Sony Repair Centre. Just lie and make it clear that it was bought while in Hong Kong.
If they want to be deceitful scum bags then a white lie is in order to get what you rightfully deserve.

Hmm maybe. Going to stop at a Sony store and see if they can help me out. If not, how would I go about finding out where my z2 originated? The box and everything is all printed in English.

It sucks that you are having such a hard time. I've been singing the praises of Sony mobile support for years. I had such a good experience on more than one occasion.
All I had to do was give them my IMEI on Sony USA chat and they told me when, where, and intended sales market.

Thanks for the thoughts haha. I'm not giving up, just been too busy to take care of this (work, grad school starting back up, wedding planning). Going to try Sony on the live chat tonight after my video uploads to YouTube so I can link them and show the problem. I'll drop a link here too.
Guy at the Sony store was super nice, and thought it was really bizarre. He said they couldn't do anything in store to help though, that corporate had taken all techs out of the stores and any replacements, etc. have to go through being sent in now. Said if I'd been there in like Feb. I'd have just left with a new phone. Oh well, **** happens, I still love the Xperia devices. I just hope that Sony will honor the warranty, as it's an obvious defect.

Sigh, this looks like my only option. Sony US is telling me that since the IMEI shows that the device was bought in HK (assuming that's where it was imported from), that I would be responsible for the cost of any repairs that need to be done. And the kicker is they can't give me an estimate as to what those repairs would cost.

really Sony?

Mmmm I had a TL I got on Ebay here in the US but the phone was an att model and they didn't care I got it on ebay, I just had to open a service request.
I also got my asian model (need to do the imei lookup) and that Sony don't cover it's warranty here in the US is pretty shocking and something to consider. Maybe it's squaretrade time for me also.
I'd be curious what happens eventually.
Good Luck

[Q] Motorola Atrix warranty - Help me!

I have to ask you a favor. I bought my AT&T Motorola Atrix from an USA ebay seller on May 2011 because I live in Italy. Since December my touchscreen is totally unresponsive but the seller can't find the receipt of payment and Motorola won't repair my phone using it's warranty without a receipt.
PDS restore, PDS-fix and hardreset was useless to resolve this issue.
Touchscreen repair cost about 150euros, can someone send me (via PM) a copy of his receipt of payment to repair it using the warranty?
I know that I can buy a new digitizer from some ebay seller but it is not really cheaper and simple to repair it.. If you can help me I'll appreciate it!
As reference, I'am an Atrix developer and I developed the Debian mod for webtop. I'm happy to return the favor for example adding features!
Thank you very much!
Bump.
Please, I need just a duplicate..
Have you checked that your unit is covered under warranty over here?
http://servicemyphone.motorola.com/iden/support/showUnitSearch.do
I am fairly confident if it shows that it's still covered under warranty you probably do not need a receipt. You WOULD need a receipt if you had bought the phone in May but it was entered into the warranty system in February and you needed proof that you only obtained the phone in May to get your extra 3 months of warranty coverage.

This form say: WARRANTY EXPIRATION DATE 5/20/2012
I'm afraid but you are wrong, I already contacted Motorola support but they said me that I must give a proof to repair my phone under warranty. At least this is true for Motorola Italy.
Anyone?

I just got an RMA for my phone today. Warranty was based on IEMI number. I was not asked for any proof of purchase. I think I had the same warranty date also. I know it was may of 2012, not sure of exact date. Maybe you could call the U.S. warranty number on the site?.
BTW, asking for duplicate receipt would probably not be in line with the rules on this site. Don't want to cause problems with XDA and some enforcement agency.
Hey dude, are you still looking for that receipt?
I'm Italian as well, and have bought my ATT Atrix on eBay as well.
I expect Motorola Italy to ask for receipts vs Motorola US being happy with IMEI numbers - for we "overseas" people it works this way - it's just a general attitude thing where the customer is not to be trusted.
I can send you my paypal receipt and an excerpt from my eBay purchase history if that's enough for them. PM me. Not sure it will work 'cos my address is in Ireland 'though.
PS thanks for the amazing Debian/chroot work on WebTop. I'm playing around with it just now...

They will associate your receipt with his phone, and you will have basically given your warranty away.

There are issues with all manufacturers. I've had bad experiences with Samsung in the past, but that doesn't mean all Samsung phones/tablets have issues.
The same goes for every manufacturer out there, and to be honest I think Samsung has got more problems to solve then Sony on global scale

Had same problem with mine except I got a parallel import from unauthorized retailer in bangkok. Mad that I had a defective phone having spent so much money, I stopped through hong kong (on one of my flights to bkk for work) determined to get the phone fixed. Talked to the manager at causeway bay's service center. I was there for 3-4 hours complaining and telling them how ****ed their no receipt no warranty policy is, especially in this Z Ultra defect case. The best he could do for me was give me a laughable discount on the hardware/lcd repair cost, I paid slightly less than the original 2450hkd repair cost. They couldn't repair it due to "not having parts" in, and just gave me a new phone, which came with a 6 month warranty.
Sorry but sending you an actual real receipt isn't going to work. A valid hkg sony recognized receipt from an "authorized retailer" will have the IMEI number printed on it. I have a second ZU which I bought on taobao which has this receipt and IMEI number printed on it which gives me a 1 year warranty as long as this receipt doesn't get lost.
But I got ****ed by sony on the other unit for buying from a stall at MBK in Bangkok.
Expensive lesson for me. Sorry, I feel your anger and pain, but look at me if you want to know what your options are. Well, you don't have to fly to Hong Kong like I did, but you can wait til the phone gets released in your area, then hit up Sony for the repair bill.

I think you're right. I may have to wait till the phone gets releases in Canada or U.S. Stupid policy Sony has. They are not the"SONY" in '90s any more. They do not have a common sense. They will lose their reputation gradually if they keep their attitude toward customers like this. I will never buy any Sony product in my life any more. No receipt no warranty for the product released less than 2 month? Nonsense!

This is why I'm glad I live in the UK. The whole "no receipt, no warranty" thing is illegal there. Unfortunately, I'm in India at the moment and am facing similar difficulties in getting a repair/ replacement. Not for lack of a receipt, but because they don't seem to acknowledge a defective "shatter-proof film" as an issue. The oleophobic coating is coming off, which leaves a big greasy splodge right in the middle of the screen - noticeable even when the screen is on. This kinda detracts from one of the major selling-points of the device (the display)... I'm currently being blamed for "scratching" the screen. However. if you wipe away all of the grease, there's a mirror finish and no sign of any marks or scratches on the screen.
I guess refusal to service/ replace devices is how Sony keeps its profits.

Mine has vertical lines and duplicated afterimages on screen from the Sony logo when you turn it on. Definitely this is manufacturing defect. I guess LCD (or LED) controller is malfunctioning and being damaged by power goes in and being heated up. I don't know who designed and made the controller, but one thing is for sure. The manufacturing process was managed so poorly. There even didn't seem to be a QA. What an idiot management Sony has...

No, The rep says, I have to provide receip or invoice to verify my phone is Goods of Hong Kong.
What a service Sony has... I even said I'd pay the delivery, but no help from them.
This is perfectly normal, they need to verify where the unit was bought as it is bound by that countries warranty codes. This is normal for any electrical item. The only choice you have is to contact the store and get it reissued.

Then, what is the warranty for? If they define their warranty as Retailer's warranty, I can understand what you're saying. But I am talking about
Manufacturing warranty of SONY. Sony is world-wide company, not like a small local electronic company. Many electronic company provide their manufacturing service according to manufacturing date in case customer can not provide purchase date. This is a common sense. And Sony doesn't have proper inventory system or proper distribution channel? Yes, they have! Then they can verify the item if it was meant to be for Hong Kong or not with IMEI number or serial number. And what is definition of authorized dealer? If someone buy Sony product as a second hand from a person, it immediately lose its manufacturing date even though it has been released only 4 month ago, for example (assuming no receipt)? No receipt No warranty is totally nonsense. Sony is not "SONY" any more. Stupid company...

Manufacturers warranty is still country specific, so a phone bought in far East is only bound by warranty in that country, that's the whole point. This is the case for Apple, or Sony down to the smallest product developer. It's nothing to do with Sony particularly, they just abide with that countries laws, blame the courts.

I think you forget something. I know manufacturer's warranty can be country specific. But this doesn't mean No receipt No warranty has to be followed always in specific country unless it is elucidated in law. Sony can accept it if they want for its brand image and customer care. And this case is for sure manufacturing defect. Just the number of people who face this problem is less compared to who does not. If it was more, Sony would have made recall for this product. Have you brought your iphone (if you had) to Apple store in China? I have, when I was their for work for a while. They didn't ask any receipt when they saw my iphone is recently released one at that time. I dropped it so the screen got broken. I got the screen replaced. Of course I paid for replacing screen for it isn't warranty covered unless it is manufacturing defect, but I wasn't asked about receipt strictly at least. I am not trying to praise Apple. I am trying to say what is the common sense. Even the judge in the court make a conclusion in extenuation of criminal's circumstance. Then am I worse than these criminals?

Not available yet but will pretend and keep your $$ until it is. Stick with Negri, they won't say they have unbtil they have, then ship same day.
It's drop shipping. They are so called "middle men" who take orders without having the actual product at hand, but orders it from a third party when they get an order.
- Cooperate with a wholesaler or manufacturer
- Get a fair price
- Add a couple of dollars on top of that
- Get order
- Send the order to the wholesaler and pay them for the product with the money they received from the customer
- Wholesaler sends the product to the customer
- Retailer AKA the middle men keeps what's left of the money
I did this a couple of years back, so this is how it's done. It went well and i never had any trouble with customers. I only sold to customers in the US and Europe though. Should you order from that site? No. Not if you care about delivery time and warranty. Got any problems with the product down the road? Forget about it.
We'll see what's up
I ordered one tuesday sept. 10 after calling and requesting a tracking # they sent me a link to UPS, it says it will be here fri. it's suppose to be the 4g version. I order purple but this one was on backorder they said so i opt for the white. I bought it through paypal so if they have been dishonest about shipping or contents paypal will resolve the issue. I will post back and let everybody know!!I
So I received it on time(3 days) it is the 3g version though but still very impressed. I'm on Walmart mobile, which is done through tmobile and it load my whole music unlimited library in seconds and then played them with little to no load time. Still planning on emailing welectronics about the 4G part, the item specs I clicked on said lte was present so we'll see what they say.

[Q] Sony ZU C6833 from Ebay???

Hi guys,
I'm looking for a cheap deal for the phone for Christmas. After checking the usual mobile network deals I'm not convinced to pay £38/ month for 2 years.
Instead I saw new phones on ebay for £370 from a trusted seller.
Phones come from "outside UK" warehouse(I'm located in the UK) with 2 pin plug. I wonder if these are dodgy deals, or worth trying it?
The seller itself is providing the warranty for one year and they have very good feedback.
Here is one : LINK
I simply could not find a cheaper one around. DO you think I could go ahead with the buy?

e_cell has absolutely no warranty on the phone. I asked them previously and here is the answer:
"Dear soniboy84,
We appreciated your email and thank you for showing interest with our item.
Please be advised that this item is sold without warranty, express or implied. Should you want to avail of a warranty for your item, you may purchase one separately from SquareTrade.
Should you have any other inquiries, please contact us again.
Kind regards,
Elise"
So no. No e_cell.

Hmmm, I'm probably in the minority here but I'd beware. Their shipping them in from China and for that price I wouldn't be at all surprised if they're clones. They do have good feedback, but I just don't see how they could possibly sell the real article that cheap without it being dodgy. My guess is if you were able to get it on a network, it would get locked soon after. The other reason I think it's unsafe is that the warranty is with themselves, not an official Sony warranty, which basically means there isn't one.
I'd steer clear.

Thanks for the feedback, that's what I'm looking for.
I'm about 50-50% and I need some more either negative or positive feedback about it to decide.
The problem is that the next phone up on ebay is £419 which is quite high :S
I want to stay on 3 network, so most online phone shops(carphone, mobiles, etc) is out

Now that you mention it, i cant see anywhere in there posts that say anything about warranty
This'll be my next bet, shame about the long delivery :/ only about a week but still http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121213772308?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Don't.
They're the same. Everything comes from China to the UK, then they post via Royal mail from the UK.
Pretty sure we can wipe our butt with the warranty!
