I'm a hp rw6828 user and is very much enthusiast to try out those wm6 roms made by those experts. However, i did a mistake while trying to flash.
I tried flashing with a rom from wantat but i forgotten to delete the EBOOT.nb0 before i clicked "upgrade". Then the program stopped at 6% for a long time and didnt move. I disconnect the cables and tried to turn the device on.
THe device can go into the wm6 and the start button can be use but the screen is "moved" to the right side and other function is not working.
After that, i did a hard reset and the the os seem to work like normal. However, when i tried to go into bootloader mode by pressing both "_" and soft reset. That didnt work. I tried another way by taking out the batt, leave it for a 10mins, press both "_" and soft reset, put in batt, release soft reset then "_" keys. That didn't work either.
But, just lately, i've tried taking out batt, holding the camera key and softreset, place back batt, release soft reset n camera button. This method works and i get what it seems to be an atom bootloader?
i get a black background with "MN1 Bootloader Mar 29 2006 13;52;14 copyright..... 1) debug module through UART 2) jump to DM Enter your selection.
I've searched the forums and found few ways to downgrade back to wm5 but those aren't the same conditions with what im facing. Can someone recommend how can i downgrade back to wm5 with the conditions that im facing? All you help is much appreciated. THank you.
You are lucky , at lease your device now become atom. My was totally cannot on power and just vibrate. Till I have to sent it back to HP SC and change the main board . Can you understand chinese , if yes than I have a solution you may try . Else you have to wait . I just download a program and doing some testing , the program is in chinese language .

Is it possible to solve the problem by sending back to hp using warranty claim? I think i still have warranty left but its ending very soon. One more week i think.

I don't think you still can claim under warranty unless you can make your phone total can't on and access to windows mobile. Last time I sent it back they charge me RM 385 to change the main board . I did talk to their technical personal , it seen like they don't know what is bootloader and flash it back to original rom . What they do was just change the main board with preloaded program .

If you think that you can claim you warranty , than you just go a head . If not , may be you can access my thread "HP6828 WM6" , download any one of the rom that I post , follow the instruction accept downgrade bootloader . Enter your phone in bootloader mode . If you can start the process , than it will flash a new hp bootloader into your phone .

You've flash ATOM Bootloader, there are many ways to restore to HP Bootloader ... don't worry !!!

Can share the information how to restore back the HP original bootloader ? And the procedure . Thanks
First you must have HP bootloader file (Eboot.nb0) 1.01 or 1.05 are OK.
- Use DRUU to restore Bootloader : replace ATOM bootloader file with HP bootloader file
- Use miniSD to restore Bootloader : copy Eboot.nb0 to miniSD card, go to bootloader ... wait 1' it will auto hard reset.
After flash successfull remmember remove Eboot.nb0 from miniSD.
- Reflashing Bootloader using JTAG. (Use only when can't use two above menthods)

You should use DRUU of Chartreux, replace Eboot.nb0 and choose OS and Eboot
Remember copy a HP68xx ROM (diskimage_Ver.nb0) to C:\Windows\Temp with DRUU of Chartreux then start...

-You must extract RUU in C:\Windows\Temp (no sub folder) then replace Eboot.nb0 with Hp bootloader 1.01/1.05
-Copy a diskimage_Ver.nb0 (any ROM WM6 for HP 68xx) to C:\Windows\Temp
-Run the DRUU program and choose OS and Eboot and start.

It worked! Thx a lot nhocbanme and wantat. The methods restore the atom bootloader to hp bootloader. The DSUU by chartreux is a good tool.

help !!
im facing another problem again...
this time i changed the file extension EBOOT0502_MNT_01.01.03.nbf to EBOOT0502_MNT_01.01.03.nb0
(file from HP official WM5 SP34074, inside the installed folder )
and copy to memory card and put in 6828 then started to go bootloader screen
few minutes later my screen goes blank, and i tried with the revive methods
which is
-press the 2 softkey " - " and reset button
-put in the battery ,
-release reset, then release softkey
but didt work out!!!!no repsponse at all..tried many times..possible dead ad???
plz help me abit ..big troblem!
I dont think i can help u much here as im still new. From the looks of your problem, i guess u forgotten to cut the first 12bits (or something like that) of your bootloader when u use it to flash via mini sd. Maybe you can try the JTAG method mentioned in the atom wiki to restore your bootloader. Good luck.

** SECOND : we must know that before we trying to do any updating or change roms on my prophet i just need to do which called unlock for the prophet and then we after that been able to change any rom on my ( jamin ) and of course u need to be careful about Your device is it G4 or G3 ,

-- Sync your device with computer and open the file u download it called HardSpl you will find two files one one foe G3 and G4 open your kind then you'll find a file called (( hardspl.bat )) okay, be sure your device is connected to computer then open the file and follow instruction and it will reset your device ,

What is the IPL and SPL?
If the wiki where up, I'd suggest looking at that, but as it is I'll explain it now...
What ROM where you attempting to upgrade to?
To get the device back, I would say "Read the wiki" but it's down!!!
Download this ROM.
In ActiveSync, disable "connect through USB" (File->Connection Settings).
Put the device into bootloader (the three coloured screen) and connect it to the computer using the USB cable.
Run the file you downloaded earlier. This should then install a new ROM.
From there, just wait for it to finish.
Now, it should work!
From there, you could re install the Orange WM5 ROM, or try upgrading to WM6. Make sure you read all the relevant guides first!

hi again brothers, pal zerocool. first u must unlock ur device to be able to accept any rom after that and solve pproblems.
first flash this rom its offecial and it solve dead prophet problems.
then make hard spl by program open file called hardspl.bat.
make hard reset.
flash ur rom u want.
make hard reset again.
then enjoy.
i uploaded the hardspl program but i couldnt upload the rom its so big so u can look in ur mail u will find the solution.
u can extract file by any program for zip.and tell me the news

Dead prophet
Hi guys,
I have been using a sh... Nokia sine I broke my prophet G4 in december by upgrading the OS.
I had downgraded first to NVID and then I tried to upgrade and it fails at 95%.
Sine this day, my prophet seem totally dead, no light when plug on both charger or computer, windows do not recognize at all the device because it is turned off. And it really do not seem to charge...
I am living in China now and a guy told me I had to change the PB board...The ost is 100Euros, but I am almost sure I an find another solution...
The weird thing is I cannot charge it at all ( I mean no lights but does it charge a little?).
The guy tested my prophet with another battery and in that ase, it is stuck on the bootloader.
We tried several roms and it always fails at 95% and the error is 200 something, maybe 245 or 243, I do not remember sorry...
Is my phone hardware is dead? or it is just a software problem and I did not see the right guy?
Do I need to buy a new battery? I have read that sometimes the device is not able to recognize it even if it the offiial one and even if it is working on another device...
PLease help me I don't want to loose this phone that I've been using for almost 3 years...
Otherwise I will switch to an iphone but I am not sure to be as happy than I was with my prophet.

Can it enter bootloader at all?
If yes, what are the IPL and SPL?
If not, it will be a hardware problem (may just be connectors to the battery but may be something more).
the only way of recovery is using jtag
but 1st we must discover the location of jtag pins on motherboard
I just do not know because with my actual battery, anything is possible....
when I tried with the guy and a new battery it was blocked on the bootloader, but don't remember the IPL and SPL...sorry
I may be right about the battery onnectors though, but the problems seem to be from the phone connectors or the battery it self???

If it can enter bootloader, it is almost certainly your battery at fault!
Ok so i burnt my battery during the upgrade...
But why is it still blocking at 95% when he tried to put a rom?
With his battery, it was stuck on the bootloader and not possible to install a rom, even a NVID WM5...

now i flashed the official rom of jamin but it stopped at 80%
hello every1, i am not very much into winmobile, i am symbian freak for a very long time.
in symbian there is no possibility to flash bricket device at home, ant that is spwcialy what i like at winmobile
i have htc cingular 8525 and it was running wm5.
rgbw string:
HERM100
IPL-1.04
HREM100
SPL-2.10.Olipro
and iv tryed to upgrade it to wm6. it stoped on 11% at image writing on ROM, and give me error 262. i remove battery, wait, plug back.... and it started to write again. and stoped on 11% again.
so iv changed pc(go to my friend), and same thing again.
iv even changed cable(from nokia 6120c hehehehe) nothing works
my ROM is deleted and i only have RGBW screen(bootloader)
is there any possibility to boot my device? form mmc???? anything? i am runing activesync 4.5.0
iv readed a lot of tuts, but ne1 helped me.
i hope that someone solved this problem.

It sounds like your radio has been stuffed... This is BAD...
First, try to flash a stock carrier rom(preferably your original carrier rom) and see if it goes past the 10-15% mark. If not you can try to flash a Radio only rom.
The best way, since it reset into bootloader anyway & (good onya) you have Hard SPL installed, is to use the sd card method.
1. Format sd card fat32.
2. Copy the .nbh file of the os/radio rom you want load Hermes onto sd card and rename to "Hermimg.nbh".
3. Put sd card in Hermes and reset. Follow prompts...
Make sure you have a charged battery as it is pretty battery draining (especially multiple flashes).
If you can't get the radio rom on, you can AT LEAST install a new OS only rom. It will be a good PDA BUT won't work as a phone anymore...

tell me what files do i need to transfer to mmc? do i need to change name of RUU.....exe to stg else or just nbh thing?
and in what location on mmc should i save it? or just in mmc:\ (root)
and can i hack my radiorom after i setup system? or i need to do that before?

btw i am poweruser of symbian, and i am proud owner of smallest s60v3 device (6120).
i found on it samsungs processor.... and i belive that it is similar as windows mobile. and we have a lot of troubles wht rom upgrading... is there any possibility to include you guys in symbian ROM moding? it would be gr8 bcs i didnt cee much skilled developers for windows XP in symbian freak community
btw some guy just told me that he has some java application which enabling write on ROM and if he say truth he will share it wht me.
he is pc/phone servicer, and he is really good as far as i know.
if this thing exists, is there any possibility to extract RUU from exe to pc and i would copy/paste every single file(wht some changes) as i want to do to my nokia hehehehehehehe

On the screen it should say what IPL and SPL you have, What are they?
2. Copy the RUU_signed.nbh file of the os/radio rom you want load Hermes onto sd card and rename to "Hermimg.nbh". You can use a radio only rom or a stock carrier rom - after flashing carrier rom and if the radio rom is restored then flash radio of your choice.
As for running windows on a symbian phone, I don't really know but I'd think that it wouldn't work as the symbian os may have hard wired drivers in the device. You'd have to ask some-one else in the know....

btw i didnt think abt runing winmob on symbian device, i was thinking of making RUU for symbian.
while RUU is rar file, we could make one for symbian, and bricket phones wouldnt be needed to send to service. btw we could then deit rom and remove platsecurity and make symbiansigned useless. then wount be any need for ROMpatching...(it pach ram actualy) all we need is drivers for symbian device and that we dont have

As I said on the 2nd post, Your radio rom may be stuffed. This could mean its an unfixable brick. You can use the PDA functions BUT you may not be able to restore the Phone functions.
Using the sd card method though, you can try to install a radio only rom (this only tries to install the radio, the OS you have on there will remain the same so even if the radio rom install is unsuccessful you can still use the PDA functions).
You should also try to install a carrier stock rom (rom supplied by your original carrier) as this , on rare occasions, has restored the radio rom.

You have bricked hardware radio - flashing radio rom wouldn't work. Send it to good service and probably they will repair it.
hmmm, i would sen it right now, but there is no service around...., and i am better in hardware and software more than 75% local servicists....ill gess tht ill figure stg

why memory card is displayed in "device:\" as folder? as far as i know it is a disk(fat32) and why i have extended_ROM and option to remove it?

It is not clear if you fixed your phone.
It does not sound like you have followed ultramag69 instructions very well. Probably because Englsih is not your first tongue and you have little knowledge of PPC.
You need to download a Radio ROM here:

A few points that you need to understand. Resco can not edit ROM files. Your Hermes does not use a MMC card it uses MicroSD. If you are connected to ActiveSync then your Storage Card shows up as a folder; that's just the way it is! can someone kindly walk me thru upgrading my AT&T 8525 firmware or software. I originally received it w/ WM 5.0 later I upgraded to original Microsoft WM 6.0 . eversince, I tried flashing w/ cooked software ROM but it wont accept any flashing. I was told, I have to use a specific file to flash it, then I will accept any cooked software (ROM) . I apologize, I'm new in this matter, not even sure if I'm using the correct terminology. but bottom line I want to use other software other than the Microsoft WM 6.0. many thanks to everyone. rustyjack67

This should set you right.
To upgrade your SPL to Hard SPL V7 using the sd card method go to page 116, post 1160.
You can use the sd card method AFTER installing Hard SPL V7 for ROMs, just drop the steps using SSPL.exe.

Yep, Thats fine for ROMs, but the link I gave you will take you to the thread on Hard SPL installation using the sd card method. Its sllghtly different.

You need Hard SPL V7. You SPL needs to be 2.10 oli. The thread I gave you will allow you to download it, its on the 1st page (about the middle - just look for Hard SPL V7).

Mate, there are dangers no matter what you use but I find the sd card method safest. Just make sure you have a charged battery, a 2Gb sd card formatted FAT32 & make no spelling mistakes - hermimg.nbh . About the only way you can stuff it up is to not have Hard SPL V7 installed and if you reset in he middle of the flash. A charged battery is a must, don't think you can charge it while it flashes, it doesn't work.

ok, lets see if i get this right.
1. download hardspl v7 from the first post.
2. extract ruu_signed.nbh and rename it to HERMIMG.nbh
3. copy it to a microsd card, make sure the card is formatted as fat32
4. download sspl-herm from here
5. extract SSPL-HERM.exe and copy it to your phone.
6. insert sd card and run sspl-herm.exe on the phone.
7. you should see the tri-color screen and then it should change to this
8. press power button to start flashing
9. reset when you get the msg that its done.
so far I've got everything needed including the hard SPL-V7, SSPL-HERM.exe, micro SD formatted to FAT32..... hopefully I get this in one shot, wish me luck, any last warning? by the way many thanks to you ULTRA, your my hero . this phone is for my " old lady, hopefully If I get it right, I might get a little extra" you know what I mean!!!!! chow ................... rusty

I did everything right,
When it says to press the power button,
I press it, nothing happens.
I don't think im doing anything wrong, i've been trying this for 2 hours, and im very frustrated.............
You need 2Gb or less sd card.
It has to be formatted FAT32.
The .nbh file MUST be renamed hermimg.nbh and MUST be a rom for the Hermes.
As long as these 3 things are right you should have NO problems, however, if just 1 thing is wrong then you won't be able to upgrade ANYTHING...

I tried to upgrade my JasJam with "838Pro_HK_ENG_WM6_Upgrade_20070712"
Which worked with other JasJams (Many of my friends has it working).
On upgrading, it stucked on 11% saying Error [262]
I went through recovery, and it said remove the USB cable, remove the Battry, Return it, start the phone, connect the USB, and its recovered.
After that Its again stucked in 100% and the same senario is happening.
Please tell me is there any possibility to restore my phone working.
Its stuck now, and only the (Three color screen) is on the screen.
Hard reset, soft reset is not functioning, and the phone refused to show anything except the three color screen.
I searched the forum, but found no relative article, I am searching since two days your forum and I know that no other forums can help me in this as I was always getting my help from yours.

If you're using XP then untick "Allow USB Connection" in activesync.
Reset to bootloader on your Hermes, Hold power, OK button above flywheel and reset with stylus.You will get the same screen you have now but it won't be a f*&%ed up version of bootloader. Connect to PC by USB and Install Hard SPL V7, found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
After this, use the sd card method to install the ROM.
1. Format a 2Gb or less sd card FAT32. ?CFopy the .nbh file of the rom you want to it and rename to hermimg.nbh .
2. Insert into phone and reset to bootloader.
3 If you did everything right then follow the prompts...

Thank you for your fast reply.
I did (untick) that option in the ActiveSync.
And also did reset to the device by holding the Power + Ok (under the flywheel) with Stylus reset.
After that I downloaded "Hard SPL V7" and tried to update.
First of all, in the "Hard SPL V7" there was only the last option active, and there was down a checkbox also active, but when choosing the last option, checkbox bocomes like everything else disabled.
However, I got the erro 286
I felt like the Device disconnected from USB and reconnected again (Windows gave me the sound when you remove some USB device and you re-connect it again) :-|
I don't know what to do with this dead device now !

Don't quote me on this as I suspect you need Hard SPL V7 but, as yo've tried things out and you're about to quit anyway, Try using the sd card to update the Stock rom, the rom that came on your Hermes, or updated version. It might let you do it if the CID matches.
I don't believe SPL 1.40 allowed you to flash ANY rom but it may let you re-install the stock rom BUT it must be the original carrier software it came with. If you had Telstra rom on it when you got it, it must be a telstra rom you flash. Make sure its for the right country too as some carriers are all over the world.

But recently, the network stopped, and I asked some experts, they said it need new OS (They ment to re-flush the ROM).
I tried with the same Dopod that was successful before, and its now stucked on 11%.
I even downloaded the Telstra but the same, it stucked on 13%.
This is my entire story, and still I am trying to get it up.

If you can, try to find the original SHIPPED STOCK ROM. It may be your Hermes won't be recoverable as the flash stopped in the radio rom part. Most people use a cooked rom as this has the radio rom part out.
I personally use the sd card method to flash my roms so there are no sync errors or accidents with my PC. But you need Hard SPL V7 installed to get that to work with any but the shipped rom.
DON'T try flashing anything but the shipped rom or you will loose all chances of recovering your Hermes.
The only other suggestion would be to flash the SHIPPED RADIO ROM, but you need to know what radio it was before you flashed it with the dopod rom.
Unfortunately the radio rom is the Achilles heel of our phone series. Any problems during flashing of that means we pretty much end up with a brick 99% of the time. Most people are stuck and the rest seem to have limited success reflashing the radio. AVERY small percentage get it working with no trouble, but its a REALLY small amount of people.
Good luck, Make sure you flash with the SHIPPED STOCK ROM to improve your chances of success.

Flusching using SD card didn't success with SPL V7.
I formatted my MicroSD card, 2GB with Fat32 FS.
After that I copied the file that came with the zip archive (RUU_signed.nbh) and renamed as required: (herming.nbh).
And I put it in my i-mate, and holded the (Power + OK under flyweel) then restarted using the stylus, It showed me the tri-color screen, then it shows (Loading...) with Gray background screen (Which is normally the flusching screen) but it returned to the tri-color screen.
Any suggestions to get this SPL V7 installed successfully ?
I tried with all my (.nbh) files that I have downloaded from all sources, but its the same screen.
I think something is really wrong with me i-mate, should I take it to some Hard-ware service center ? and what can be damaged and need to be replaced in such cases ?
I am very excited in getting it working again.

I had bricked my Hermes a couple o' times, because of a rom I cooked half-way ( LOL ). Each time I had to flash back to the stock rom as suggested. Don't lose hope, cuz there's some people who will tell you just to accept it as bricked. You could also take the sucker apart and use jtags to flash. Most types of bricks can be solved when it comes to the Hermes. There's a thread somewhere that polled the different types of bricks, and except for radio bricks, most can be solved. If you unbrick it try 6.5 .... !!! My rom is cooked all the way now
Arwany, did you run the SSPL.exe file in the sd card instructions for Hard SPL found on page 116, post 1160 of the Hard SPL thread? You need a version of Soft SPL (SSPL) to flash using the sd card as the CID must be bypassed. The reason we Hard SPL our Hermes is because its safer. Its worthwhile flashing the SPL using unsafe SSPL (even if you use the pc you have Soft SPL installed) as its a short flash, flashing a rom (especially stock roms with the radio rom inside) is a riskier and longer flash.

I had the same problem.. All you have to do is establish a connection with Actisync, then run the Updater. There will be 3 colors on your Screen, sont worry, just wait 10-15 min and your should be done with the setup.

Hi,Just to tell You that I've noticed a little spelling mistake.You've written "herming.nbh" But it should be "Hermimg.nbh".
Not the 1st person to make that mistake, and probably won't be the last.....

If you have the no GSM problem the only way to, maybe, fix is to flash the original SHIPPED STOCK ROM, or the original radio rom. Flashing anything else may result in a permanent brick...
If it doesn't succeed then, sorry, its not repairable. Can be used as a PDA but not as a phone ever again.

To fix it will cost more than to get a new device... They'll tell you they can't fix it or it needs a new mainboard. Will still cost you for this nugget of info. My advice, buy a Hermes off ebay, either working or not. If its not, make sure its screen related problem cos you have the parts to fix... Unless your screen has gone bung too...

I gave it to the repairing guy, he replaced the GSM item and its up and running now for only 20$.
