So has anybody else been having random errors popping up saying registration error and IP address registration failure and others. It doesn't seam to mess anything up but I just thought it was wierd. Im am in Columbus btw.

i have also had this error, i have no idea whats causing it, nut it goes away by itself
Seems to only occur while I am on a call and something pings the internet on my phone. Thought it was also with text messages but I can send those and receive them during a call just fine.
So far its only happened to me when roaming and 0-1 bars signal. Good thing i am rarely in that situation.

Same for me, which happens to be my isolated office at work... :/ It's been a few days since I got the message, but I notice the message more after an software update.
I have had the same thing... went to the sprint store and the tech scratched his head... he asked are you rooted lol I said not yet
Its when you are on a call or if you go in through ##3282# and change the settings, it just is saying it cannot obtain an ip address due to no 3g or 4g at that time , could be because you have no signal in the area (roaming) make sure prls are up to date. This will help it out a little and as well as going under settings mobile network and changing it to auto connect to any tower and not just sprint only

Hi Guys!
I'm using a stock AT&T Galaxy note, Yesterday when I went to the hospital to visit a friend, I've lost the 4g signal, however It does show gray 3 bars without any abbreviation beside it so I would assume it's on EDGE.
I've tried calling or sending text messages at that point, but then all my calls wouldn't connect, my messages all failed.
Luckily I'm with my sister at that time, she uses a blackberry torch. Same signal as I had and she didn't have those kind of problems.
Did this happen to anyone else? I'l still try to test EDGE connections if I happen to stumble across one in the future. Right now, I'm a bit confused, a little bit scared because when I travel, I get edge connections and if the phone does not work with EDGE then it's something that I have to seriously think about replacing this device.
If it has no abbreviation beside the bars, there is no data connection. Edge will have an 'E' beside it. As for the texts and calls not going through, you probably were in a dead spot.
I sometimes hit edge areas and it shows an 'E' with slow data but data nonetheless.

Thanks cmjkxa, I didn't know that
Just weird, coz the torch running on the same network functions normally.
Edit: when connected to wifi, it doesn't show the icon what kind of connection you have, "4g/lte/g/e"
Ever since I've transferred to AT&T I've had laggy data issues. I finally rooted/flashed to AOKP, and while trying to address the issues of no APNs appearing or saving and no signal status in the status bar, I've come to find both AT&T and T-Mobile as Available Networks under some network setting. Am I chasing ghosts here, or is there something actually up?
EDIT: So I really need help troubleshooting the issue. I'll logcat, dump, or whatever necessary. I've been in many cities/areas and this problem persists: if I haven't used data or the phone hasn't been backgrounding traffic, it'll take anywhere from 5 to 30 seconds before a connection is made when I try to access an internet-related function on my phone (even though 3G/H is displayed in the status bar). Out of shear frustration (this has been happening since I got the phone, under stock ROMs and now under AOKP), I tried messing with *#*#info#*#*. I changed WCDMA-preferred to WCDMA-only -- no improvement. Oddly, I also tried GSM-only. Well, great improvement! Even though I only have E, there is absolutely no latency in waiting for a connection -- so pages and other data end up loading faster on Edge than 3G !
I have absolutely no idea why my phone takes forever to make a connection. Under 3G, I see only but a few upstream network activity blips (even under full bars) for as much as 30 seconds, before there is any downstream activity (and when it comes, it comes). Can anyone help???
P.S.: I'm going to try using a friend's SIM later for comparison.

Because they both share the 1900MHz band I believe.

On AOKP it does for me too. Just ignore it.

An aside: does your phone stay on 3G and switch to H only under moderate network traffic?

The phone displays 3G because thats what it is... then when data is being processed, it shows H because its using the "what AT&T calls 4G but its really HSPA" side of the network. For just standby time with no data, its going to show 3G because HSDPA is traffic, not standby.

Well that's strange. I'm used to phones displaying what network-level they are capable of. So why would it not just display H for HSPA+ when HSPA+ service is available, instead of only displaying under traffic.
I'm going to go ahead an edit this thread to help troubleshoot what I think to be the main issue.
After some trials I see that the network indicator switches back and forth between 3G and H a few tines before making the connection and transmitting data. Hmmm...
Basically, "4G" will eat your battery alive so the phone idles at 3G and jumps to H+ only when you use data. If you were on a "stock" ATT rom it would always read H+, but this is technically false since when its idle the phone sits in 3G. CM9 and AOKP accurately display it which is why you see the switch.

I have a HTC Amaze for a phone and the Galaxy S2 is my media player. Sometimes, when I don't feel like carrying around two devices, I put my T-Mobile SIM in the galaxy and use it as my phone. I must say, Edge is not as slow as I remember it being. Maybe speed is contingent on network traffic. If thats the case, instead of using crowded "faux G" networks, I may defer to Edge to save battery life and get good dl/ul rates.
My phone does the same thing. I noticed it sometime ago. When idle 3g. Internet I get H+. This is with both Shostock2 and Phone Bricker. I was curious to know too but just blew it off because it really doesnt make any difference to me as long as Im getting decent speeds. Im not even with ATT anymore. Went with Straight Talk. Which uses ATT towers. Cant beat the price!!
They don't have the correct apns, but that symbol problem is because the phone doesn't use hspa+ passively, only actively. It causes some lag when downloading, but it is faster fit large data. But your problem is due to a supposed imei range with bad modems. Rehash stick, fix the triangle, and return it.

Is anyone else constantly losing 3g? I can be in an area 1000 feet from a tower and I still drop to 1x. It happens all over the place. Resetting data through ##3282# does not resolve the issue. The only thing that helps is going in and out of airplane mode

That seems like such a blanket answer to any signal issues. If it were just towers in the process of being upgraded, why would cycling airplane mode on and off fix it? Why would my girlfriend's iPhone still have 3g? I just wanted to see if this signal issue was at least not unheard of.

When you put phone in airplane mod, it disconnects from tower, then reconnects when you turn your mobile data on. Your girlfriend iphone doesn't have the mod to show 1x. Plus the last radios update was buggy. Hopefully sprint will rectify it soon.

Just to possibly clarify on what the OP stated, I think I'm having the same issue. It would be nice to know that this is just a tower thing for right now, not a problem with this highly anticipated amazing phone...which isnt so amazing right now.
BTW, I live in Largo, Florida, and I've noticed these 3g drop-outs all over the Tampa Bay area. The frequency of these dropouts is very strange though. Heres my issue with it, maybe this is also what the op is experiencing..
The phone is on, 3g works fine, texts go through, internet works, etc. All of a sudden for no reason, the 3g icon disappears. I still have 2-3 bars, but text messages and internet, etc., does not work. After weeks of this, I put the mobile data toggle on my homescreen as a widget, sometimes i can click that off and back on, and 3g comes back, sometimes it doesnt. Lately, its been more on the "doesnt" side. So then I'll be texting with someone, 6-10 text messages in, I get a "failed to send" or "could not send" message. I'll still have the 3g icon, but i notice the "data arrows" directly underneath it do not fluctuate. I understand its only a graphic, and may not be a true indicator of upload and download. anyways the only way to get messages sending again is to reboot the phone. And now lately, that too has been "sometimes working". This will even happen if i switch to wi-fi, the messages still wont go through.
Its very frusterating, seeing as how other sprint users I know are not experiencing this. (they dont have an Evo LTE)
Hey guys, Punk9 again.
I live in the UCF area (Orlando FL) and I have LTE signal here. I have around 2-3 bars of service most of the time as well.
Lately I have been getting texts late, and not even receiving phone calls. For example, my gf sent me 6 texts within about an hour, I got all six at once, each with the time stamp of the time she sent them, but I got them all at the same time. She also called twice and nothing rang on my end, but it rang for 30 seconds and went to my voice mail on her end.
Is this a known issue or? I'm running ViperROM for Sprint one max. It was happening when I was stock as well (which is why i didn't post in the ROM thread)
Any ideas?
-Andrew.
yeah, call sprint and tell them about your signal issue..
Did yoi flash with cwm or twrp? I havr heard there are issues with signal when flashing with cwm.
*I have not personally used cwm on this device

they've actually been very good lately, in the Chicago land area, about responding the these kinds of issues..We have the new Spark network here, and its been really good so far, but there are some spots that need to be tweaked. When you call them and report it, they appear to spend time to send a detailed report out to their field network folks, and, so far, the 3 times that I reported areas with dead zones, when i returned, the problem appeared to be fixed.
hope it works that way for you..
I'm at work in Maspeth Queens New York and I have the Spark 4G LTE with 1 Bar most of the time which eats up my battery. Then the rest of the time, My phone has anywhere from 4 to 6 Bars on 3G.
At My House I have No 4G Anything! And sometimes, a Crappy 3G signal. I have a Sprint Airaive because of that. And the Bad thing that SUCKS, is that I'm less than 2.Miles from the Tower with a Clear Line of Sight and I Roam about half of the time if I unplug the Airaive.

This sounds like a common CSFB issue. All new triband phones, or Spark devices use a new technology called Circuit Switch Fall Back, which allows the phone to use less battery because it has one radio for everything. When the device connects to LTE, it cuts off connection the 3G network, and essentially loses the ability to send/receive texts/calls. CSFB is the answer to this, however, it is not wholly deployed. CSFB tells the phone via LTE to switch back to 3G to receive phone calls and texts, as well as to send them. Since the technology is not as widely deployed as the amount of users of the new devices, theses issues happen.
A common way to fix this is to stay on 3G only mode, which is a burden. Otherwise hope the Sprint tech is smart enough to know its a Spark phone related issue, and knows how to send a tech out to your area to fix it. Last resort is to wait it out.
Calling Sprint may or may not do anything. I have been experiencing these problems since day one in New York City at my home, and every call to Sprint was answered with a saying that it is an issue with your phone.
