Thank you all! - Touch Pro CDMA

I would just like say thank you to the wonderfull people of this forum. I have been a looooong time lurker, reading everything i could and then some. I just upgraded my Raph800 to WM6.5 using the mighty rom, and I LOVE IT! I have no idea why I waited this long to get it done. Fear most likely. I REALY didn't want to brick my phone.
Thanks again to everyone here who took the time post and respond to posts so that a newb like me could eventually come up with a (thankfully) way to make the upgrade happen with out any real troubles.

Just my opinion
It's pretty safe with the power/vol down combo trick to not brick your phone. If you like mightyROM more power to ya but I think NSFFAN's rom is better. Give it a try or don't. And welcome to the forums.

Seriously... Is it worth upgrading?

I've got an Orange M3100 and i'm thinking of upgrading it to WM6 but I want to ask a question.
Is it really worth it?
Please answer truthfully, those of you that have done it what are the real pro's of do it.
If you can follow directions in the Wiki and are not totally retarded you will be fine upgrading to WM 6. I'm using the Cingular build here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308378
It works flawlessly. I haven' thad any issue and battery life has been excellent.
Do you need WM6? Nope.
Is it nice? Yes
Reason enough for me are the bug fixes over WM5 and HTM email support in Poutlook. That alone is enough of a reason for me.
Enjoy.
Put me down as a "YES"
Although I agree that WM6 isn't something worth upgrading for on it's own, I have found something that is. On my original WM5 T-Mobile ROM I was resetting the phone at least once a day because of freezes. Since the second generation WM6 ROM here, I've only ever had one freeze - and that was when I was being frankly stupid with about 20 installs in one go!
Is it worth upgrading for WM6? Maybe
Is it worth upgrading to a rock solid, reliable phone? Definitely!
another pointless thread... guys why dont you read the wiki??? or use the search function...
and if you dont like WM6 you can always revert back... jesus mate... try something for yourself for once...
For the shear use of a "phone", upgrading isn't necessary or even worth it...if ya just care about using the phone for calling WM5 is fine. However, if you're like me and want to tweak your phone, then there's a ton of pros for upgrading to WM6. Speed for one, more memory, better tweaks than the stock ROM, and a more stable OS IMHO. I like being apart of a small, but growing percentage of people that take the risk to have the latest ROM released and different than your average Joe with the same phone. People that just make and take calls are boring! Those of us that can turn a cam flash into a flashlight, or integrate a Treo born thread app on a WM6 platform like to be different! I like the risk when flashing, but then again I jumped outta planes and fought in Iraq twice, so my mentality is different than "average".
Good luck in your decision! -fin

Always one prick about. I have read the wiki and and know what i'm doing I've been around here for long enough. Read the original post. I'm asking if its really worth it, i'm always messing around with my phone and i'm actually quite happy with the latest ROM from orange. I asking for people personal opinions on the matter.

Hate to say this but my ROM modding days are over, well for the Raphael.
I would like to thank everyone that I have learned from and all the contributors to the forum. Thanks for all of your tools and answering my questions when I was a new at modding ROMs.
Also I would like to thank the users of my work. It is cool to develop something that so many people enjoyed.
And I would like to give a special thanks too all that made donations for the time it took me to create the modded ROMs. I did not get into this for money. When I first started I suggested to donate to XDA instead of myself in my sig. Once my phone had it's little accident I thought to change my sig to what it is currently. I was planning on changing it back to donate to XDA if I ever raised enough for a new phone.
Unfortunately I do not have enough and my phone is totally screwed now. Before I tried to repair my phone I attempted to create ROMs with the help of others testing but it took up way too much time. I managed to rig what was left of my phone together to get into a state where I could have used it for testing purposes. It has now gone competely haywired on me and will no longer run.
So thanks once again to everyone. I will still be lurking around and helping when I can.
Thank you for all your contributons. You will be missed!

Well lets see
Good luck.
Thanks for your great roms..
I always appreciated your work and you were one of the less that was able to cook without giving me the feeling the rom was crappy build. (yes, most rom cookers do create crap....)
If you ever buy a new phone, a raphael of something else, please inform us about it
I want to thank you for your efforts. I have been using your ROM for over a month now and its been great! Good luck to whatever you choose to do down the road
we hate to see you go. Our community will be losing a tremendous asset. If this is the last of you, many thanks and appreciation for all the blood sweat and tears.
If we get to see a triumphant return, then we'll see you live and fight another day.
thanks again, for all your hard work.
i figured there is someone on here that works for ATT that can hook him up.
Sorry to see you go mate, have had a couple of your OEM packages in my kitchen for a while
Always sad to see a Chef who has lost his frying pan...
Hopefully, we'll see you around here again soon.
You were the first ROM I tried, best ROM I tried. Your 5.4 build was absolutely amazing. I appreciate all your hard work, and you responded to every question that was asked, unlike some other cooks here. If you ever do come back, that would be one of the most triumphant returns I have ever seen.
Hey thanks for all the support guys. I will be back whenever I get a new phone. If it is a touch pro or whatever I will be back in the ROM modification game.
I recently went back to school and I have a tight budget so it is not so easy to drop another 400 bucks on a phone again. Maybe after my papers are done and finals I can find some extra work to get some extra cash.
I am still tweaking my 6.5 kitchen to be prepared if something comes along.
Thanks!

Just another "sorry to see you go" comment. You were super-helpful when I was using your ROM and kitchen, and a pleasure to be in touch with whenever I had a question. Here's hoping you get a new phone soon because 1) The community will miss you a lot and 2) Dude, you deserve to have a phone!
im sorry to see you go! I know personally you have been a big help for me in my endeavors. Raphael forums will miss you! Thanks for everything!

Thanks guys!
Glad to see your ROMs are doing so well!
When I am done with my last exam I will try to create some new 6.5 ROMs. Hope I can catch up to you guys
Definitely a great kitchen! I am going to try this out today. Does the batch file delete all the "useless" files to make the ROM fully stripped down? For instance, mvbarian's kitchen from Kaiser did this and it made it a "lite" version. I would like to do the same with this but I am new to the fuze/raphael. Once again, great job on your ROMs and kitchen.

OMG another "What ROM to choose?" Thread...

Ok, I hate being a newbie. God I hate being a newbie!
This is a rare problem on electronics forums... there is TOOO much information here!
I've never seen a forum like XDA before. I mean you guys are just freaking brilliant.
I've been into Pocket PCs and Phones for a while... but never into flashing ROMs.
Now with all the apps and tweaks out there, I'm just flooded with information.
I have a Sprint touch pro and after some weird mis-hap I had to hard-reset my phone.
So now I have a blank slate.
I've been doing ALOT of reading today. About 12 hours worth and I'm still left with a "DDDUUUUHHHHH" look on my face.
With SOO many ROMs out there I don't know what to choose.
I don't want a "light and fit" ROM. I LOVE features. I LOVE to show off all the "cool" stuff my phone can do to all the iPhone loving friends I have. I don't care so much about speed. I mean I want fast internet, and good video streaming. Other than that I've got no problem waiting an extra 500ms or whatever for a program to open. I just like having alot of STUFF.
Can any of you not so long ago newbs feel like telling what ROMs you chose and why?
Is there a better list of ROMs out there with a 3-5 sentence description all in one place? I've been to PPCGeeks looking at all the ROMs over there, but my god there's too many!
Thanks for the help guys.
-Jonathan
pm sent offering to chat it out on IM. seems like u have bunches of questions.
NFSFAN 110. Has WM6.5 and TF3D2. Has some apps installed, most ROMs come with the basics, you have to search the forums for everything else you want.
thread closed
this kind off question is not welcome here
it always ends in fighting
only way to see whats best for you is to get flashing.

Is there a need for a noob guide?

If so, reply here, tell me what you all think is needed or wanted, and I'll see what I can do. I know I'm feeling full of stupid questions, and the best way I learn is to find the answers for others.

i really would appreciate a some sort of guide and some basic info. Since HTC allows unlock the boot, i am not sure about hwo that plays with the warranty and if there's any recovery. I would really appreciate if someone can have a good guide explaining some basic stuff like the process of getting the phoen to run custome rom (yes I know there are few but it would just be nice to have 1 with a bit detail and also mentioning a few of things we should watchout like warranty, etc).
also I really would appreciate a baisc maybe dumb step by step process with maybe a quick guideline for a newbie like me to follow where it's almost 100% fail proof to kind of test so one can get used to the whole idea of flashing custom rom
Con beat me again but there are plenty of stickies or threads people can read... the reason that there are so many questions is because people are either too lazy to read or dont look at the guides... so i think even if u made one people would still not read it
I'd love a noob guide! I have looked at some of the foolproof tools and they seem decent enough for me to get started with...
I'm a lifelong developer, but I am new to android, so it's just a matter of time before I dive in.. and once I'm in, i'll be thrashing around and hope to help out the dev's we got.
That being said... I'm literally one rainy weekend away from unlocking and getting started on all this (but that weekend is hard to find here in SoCal.. )

If you are a developer I don't know why your not diving in ... It's soo easy to do all the unlocking and stuff... I bet it takes less than an hour and that's just bc u have to wait on things to flash .... But what do I know I'm just an average Joe.
Sent from my Dinc... I mean Rezound
hahaha, tomorrow (wed) is suppose to rain, maybe it's a good day to get your hand wet
that would be great....i'm coming from a DX and OG Droid where i rommed and modded away. but the rezound has e scared to unlock/root. i ahven't touched anything yet and i really want to. i liked that i had the option to sbf back to stock if worse came to worse. i can flash anything i wanted to but could always go back to completely unrooted stock if need be.

I made a big mistake! It was really unwanted!

Just to clarify: I opened this thread because it is just fair! I don't want to be so dramatic! Just that you can see: I made a mistake and I will be bound! Another thing is: Please help me to make Whirleyes return from his decision! He is a great Dev and did / is doing awesome work for us!!!
This project is dead
If you've been a long time reader to xda, this drama happen a lot.
Well, this is another version of it.
Somebody just open a "Pandora’s box" by taking my work without permission.
I think I've explicitly say in few post above about not to include it in a ROM distributions. Maybe my English is bad.. I failed to make others understand.
Sorry
I decide to end this project. I'm out of motivation & energy to complete it.
I really feel sad about it this time & feeling like I'm not needed here.
I don't want to waste more of time to a community like this. Real life is what more important.
Refund
I really don't really have a big list on this, but if you've donated & feel cheated.
I'm willingly to refund your donation. Just PM me the email address your used when making that donation.
I'm sorry I end this in a cold blood. I hope I don't owe anyone anything.
Good bye & good luck

Whirleyes wants to leave and closed all his bbm threads. Read the last post in BMM 0.3.0
This is my fault and I didn't want this. As Whirleyes wrote "someone" all people should know that it's ME. I am the bad guy, but I am standing to my mistakes!
I didn't took a whole work, I used one single module. Prior that I wrote to Whirleyes about that, wanted to know how to use and figured it out myself. I really had the first contact with BMM 0.3.0 a few hours ago. And I discovered the cpu_control module, which is also provides in the extra kernel modules which is os. And I really didn't read that post which he mentioned because I didn't used BMM 0.3 before.
You cam believe me that I didn't want to make Whirleyes (or anyone else here) sad and angry! My knowledge about this modules was, that it comes from milestone over clock and it's open source (Now after reading the thread (extra kernel modules) again more carefully I saw that it was his own module and I was totally wrong!! It ist just based on the milestone OC module, but he rewrote it. I jjust remebered before that his said in his thread that he didn't write these modules....I am very sorry about this). I noticed a new way to use it and included it into my project of course with credits. So, I didn't want to be responsible that one of our best devs here is leaving because I made an unwanted mistake. All of you should know that and here is my excuse!
I will remove the module as soon as I am back at home and I please Whirleyes not to leave. I am really really sorry!!! Everyone makes mistakes, right? So please forgive me mine and don't be angry. Just stay.
If you leave anyway, then anyone should know that I was my fault.
.-------------------------
I already wrote him a pm. I really hope he doesn't leave, I am not an asshole and I guess most of know that zoo.
I never stole a work from someone, only took with permission (and that was not much, the source from STS - how everyone does, and I used some FREE tweak scripts which were free to use but I don't use them anymore because it didn't work, FREE Apps - which is not a problem, and finally one single module which I thought was related to the extra kernel modules thread and these modules are from the milestone OC. I really didn't know that using this single module (of course WITH CREDITS inside the execute script and inside the roms thread) is that big mistake!) and as I already said this was a big a big mistake!
Sometimes people don't think about their things they do and sometimes people make mistakes. This time it was me, so I were really happy if he returns from that decision. I have explained the situation and wrote him personally. What can I do else?
I guess he didn't want to blame me and didn't mention my name. It is just fair that I tell you the truth.
EDIT:

Don't blame yourself. I just had a bad day...
It just personal reason. I just fell stupid going home early every day just to have more time working for that project. I'm done fighting for it. It's not worth it.
I maybe finish it for personal use, but I'm done uploading it here.
You don't have to removed cpu_control. Consider that as my last gift. It's GPL & I'm obliged to provide the source code. I'll upload it on weekend.

Mate, it's too late. I already did! And it's just fair. Anyway I think that if I hadn't do this, you wouldn't leave and close all your threads! I feel really bad now because I "opened Pandora's box". I don't want to be that asshole about who everryone talks "Oh look, that's that idiot who's steeling other's work". I know how bad that is, and I guess, now you know that it was an unwanted mistake. I guess this could happen to anybody. I should had you to ask for it BEFORE using it. But I wrote an request to you how to use it exactly, and there you can see that I didn't think carefully that moment.
But just to clarify: You are one of the greates dev in the Razr Community! If you really leave, then there aren't many good devs left here. And I guess I am not the only one who thinks that way. I hope that my "self-blaming-action" is excuse enough for you. Neverming, but I please you in the name of this community not to leave now. At least finish your great BMM and hopefully more stuff! I am not that skilled like you, still have too much things to learn around Android...
You dont have to blame yourself.
As whirleyes said he s living for bmm , and he s tired of that. I understand him and thank him for the time he spent and to allow me to follow his project from begining.
We are lucky to still have dev over this dead phone .
Anyway whirleyes we ll miss you and i wish you best for your life. Thanks for all your work you ve done over here

Well, time to move on. I'll get Nexus 4 soon = no more waiting for updates, just pure Android OS.
Anyway, thanks whirleyes for everything (he saved my phone when I was bricked few weeks).
Thanks dtrail and all devs for your great work.
From what I understand, the little mistake made by dtrail was not the most important reason.
Being a developer needs an "iron moral" (I don't know if this expression exists in english lol)
Whirleyes is a basic developer for the Razr. Most users treats the devs like "workers" for US, the users, the ones who deserve everything perfect and NOW.
But noone really knows how much time and efforts the devs make. It's much more than they should need for making things just for them.
Of course not all users are like this, but I completely understand that most devs would feel a bit like whirleyes.
The entire community is the one to blame for this kind of things. And my advice for the devs would be to be a bit more "unfriendly" with the users. This doesn't mean being disgusting, but when you give all your patience, people tend to forget more easily that you are making a huge effort.
So I just can say thanks to whirleyes, and as I was thinking about making a little donation now that I have a paypal account, I'll make it. It's fair even if he is going to definitely abandon ProjectLense, because I have been using and will continue using it.
I don't want to waste more of time to a community like this. Real life is what more important.

We wish you the best, enjoy your "real life" , but, honestly, I wish you have a really deserved rest, and some day come back, but never spending so much time and energy that will led you to a dead point like this.
Thank you whirleyes, and of course all the other devs.
Forget the last and move on, it's his decision to leave, things come and go. It's alright if he thinks of what an undeserrving community this is as a whole, but just because of the passing of one developer doesn't stop the rest of the community especially you dtrail, from contributing. I get that there's the prevailing situation of us thinking about who's right and wrong, but does it matter? If he's passing was to make the rest of the community stricken with guilt and come to a halt just because of him, I'd say **** it, let's move on and do without.
Damn, enough of this.. if one dev leaves then so be it... we cant please everybody... his contribution wont be forgotten... lets move on....
