hey,
I dont know for u guyz, but since I ve installed the last rom radio ...09.26, time left using battery is really short, and I use my Hero normally!
I tries with any 2.1 roms, but still got the same results. My phone is not that old, I think from January.
Got any comments??
Perform some tests, then replace the radio with an older version and reperform the same tests...If you get differences please let us know Even if flashing radio is a little bit more dangerous than flashing a rom/recovery...

Yep that was my problem too!
Hi, i agree for wifi but for other things (idle/3G) the 09.26 seems better than 08 for me.
but did'tn treid wifi a lot with the 8 one.
Ciao
Fred
I haven't noticed much of a difference.
But the best was that i spent two weeks in germany, so roaming with t-mobile, and the battery life was increased a lot !!! impressive ! I did'nt do any 3G for sure and it was idle all the time almost, but i charged it twice in two weeks... in france i can't do it such long...
Very strange.. why can t-mobile have so different from orange ?
Ciao
Fred

I read through all the threads about the new upgrades, but I have not seen anyone talk about power consumption and battery life.
Can someone who has done the upgrade lay out the differences?
It seems to have improved, but I've done quite a few hard resets and other various testing, so I can't say how much.. But it definitely seems to have improved..

About twice a week I have HELL days were the phone gets a work out and tomarrow is one of them.
The old Cingular ROM:
Turn on Phone at 6am-by 12 noon it would be dead, I use a lot of 3G and video streaming.
Tomarrow will be the first hell day since the new ROM, so I will report back tomarrow night and let you know how it goes.
After several days with the new ROM and a full day with the new 1.33 radio it appears that battery life is definitely improved.
I am running radio 1.27 and i can say that with this .rom battery has improved somewhat from what i saw in 1.20.....
The battery life is definitely better on the new ROMs. I'm running 1.27 Radio ROM and with a 3000mah battery my phone last around 10 hours now.
I certainly hope so. I would like to consider myself a power user. I have my push email downloading every 2 minutes. So I am usually dead by 3pm. I hope this will be better under those conditions.
Are people here using the battery saving hacks on the Wiki or are you using the default ROM settings? I have not checked, they might be the same in the new ROM.
I'm only using the default ROM settings.. Minus a few CABs in the extended ROM, but those are mostly things that annoy me anyway (like the Good Email and such)..

Has anyone tried the tweaks on the Wiki with this ROM? If so, how much battery asving do you get and what are the possible side effects?
bat life is so much better.... it would almost be dead by 10pm.. not its still over half by 10
Hello XDA.
I'm considering to flash a custom rom on my htc hero. I'm wondering which custom rom does have the best battery life, which would you recommend?
I would like a rom that can last a day, so that i only have to charge over night?
By the way, how do i find out if i have the gsm or cdma edition?

If you live in the us you have the cdma. Every other place in the world use gsm.

Battery life has more to do with how you use the phone rather than the rom, most are similarly optimised now.
It nice to hear. How much battery time do you get?
Which ROM would you recommend? Been Thinking of installing beHero.

Personally i get between 1-4 days on a standard battery depending on how I use the phone, and I get between 4-10 days on my extra life battery (3000 mah).
I use VillainROM and am currently on 5.2, but 5.3 is out in about 30 mins or so. I have heard good things about many of the roms, check out their features and see which you prefer.

Not necessarily! The US does use GSM as well as CDMA - it just uses a different set of frequencies. A Telus Hero is a GSM Hero and will work on AT&T in the US.

It can brick your phone, however as long as you don't flash a GSM radio on a CDMA hero or visa versa (assuming they have cdma radios?) you are fairly safe. Also don't pull the battery out whilst its happening. Just be patient, it can take a while for some people apparently (10 mins or more), though it takes about a minute on mine.
All the radio does it let your phone know where signal towers are, from what I gather. Though people often talk about some radio's working better with certain rom's and they apparently affect battery life - i'm not entirely convinced.
Okay. Could it have any effect on my signal strengh? Are you using the laste radio rom?
Thanks for the help and guides. Now i've got it all up and running Has been a greate help, and i'm really looking forward to use android 2.1 Will see if i change back to HTC when they can get their act together and release the 2.1 update for android

Yes I'm on the latest radio. I noticed a difference, before i only ever got 2 bars of signal max, now it ranges from 0 to full.
If you continue with the 2.1 custom roms when the devs get the new kernal i'm sure there will be some nice features.

just a last question. When you get 1-4 days on the standard battery, do you turn it off at night? And how much do you use it during the day, for texting, calling, internet and so on?

Stays on at night, for my alarm in the morning. I use it for calls for approximately 30-60 minutes every couple of days. Send about 10-20 texts a day. Usually check for updates to apps on a daily basis, as well as twitter updates and some browsing of the net when i'm away from computer. Not heavy use really.
Just make sure you turn stuff off when you're not using it - i.e. wifi, 3g, bluetooth, sync, backlight, etc (there is a power control widget for most of these, and a 3g widget separate)
Mine might get 3 days with moderate-low usage.I have Villain Rom 5.3 and of course i keep closed bluetooth,wifi,gps,3g when i don't use them. Also i have Advanced Task Manager to kill all apps that might run on the background when i don't need them.
Hi All,
I would like to know what radio people have found to have the best battery and reception. I ask because I have the stock 2.07.51.22_2 from Telstra and I have been thinking about upgrading but have no idea to which radio to go to.
Help would be appreciated
Look at the stickies in this forum and then read... after you have done that then hopefully you will realise that the best radio for battery and reception is very much down to the user of phone, what network they are on, which country they are in, where in that country they are, where the celltowers for their network are in relation to where they are and where they move between. In addition how you use your phone, for what and for how long also affects it.
If you still not getting it the only person you can ask your original question to is yourself because noone else lives your life and is in the places you are at the same time as you...

Dear Friend,
I tried all radio ROMs and almost all ROM's and came to the conclusion that the only one that is the best for battery XannyTech's EVOLUTION 2.0 ROM. With that ROM, I'm getting 3 days of normal usage with radio 2.10.50.08_2. Beside battery, the ROM is great.

True,
But I am not asking for people to make the decision for me. All I am asking for is people's experiences with different radio's to help me decide.

and as Starfury mentioned only you can answer that question
Flashing a Radio does not take long, so just download a couple and try them out for yourself to find out which fits your needs best. But dont forget to leave the Radio on for at least 2 or 3 complete battery cycles to let it settle down before going ahead to the next. I did this for myself as well (took a while but nevertheless) and now have 4 Radio Versions in a Subfolder on my SD card so that when i move around i can quickly change to a better Radio for the certain Task i need the phone to perform.
I found 2.10.50.x.x to be the best radio for battery use, this works wonders in standby mode, it hardly ever goes down on the meter.

i agree with radio 2.10.50.08_2 good reception and good battery..
I can´t second that.
I tried the 2.10 Radio too but i had no good battery. With 2.08.50_02 i had much better battery.
So you only can try some radios and find the best way. Some radios can be very good with a specific rom and be worse with another rom.
2.10.50.08_2 good reception and good battery
2.10.50.28_2 has good reception and battery life for me in Melbourne.
Cheers

best radio for me too(reception & battery)
The entire debate on this question is subjective....the same Radio+ROM combo will not perform best for everyone "Worldwide"....
You may narrow it down Country-wise though...
thanks guys for all your responses. I have been able to chose a suitable Radio for my HD2. As I live in Australia I will be using 2.10.XX.XX radio as it seems to work best here.
Thanks again.
2.10.50.28_2 works perfectly in Canberra
How is battery life and reception on 2.12.50.02_2?
i just tried the new radio 2.14. Pretty good reception, when i go to the carpark, always no signal. However, after tried 2.14 radio, it will get at least signal for me to call out.... maybe you can try it.
2.12.50.02_2
I am using now 2.12.50.02_2 and i think it has improved the reception and the battery by aprox 20% vs the stock radio 2.05.51.05_2. In my room, with the old radio i had 1 bar of signal or none now i have al least one usual 2 and rarely 3. So for Romania i would say is pretty good so far.
Hi, just wondering if any O2 UK users could advise on which modem works best for them?
I understand that it is trial and error, but if I can narrow it down to 2 or 3 to experiment with, this sure makes life easier!
I have just flashed one of the MIUI 4 ICS ROMs... any help appreciated - phone is getting very warm and gives me sweaty palms when I hold it for any length of time, and I just came across a post which said this could be down to the modem...
TIA
i dont know much but this problem happen with my phone too but now problem solved
after using the D4 rom with latest siyah kernel problem solved .playing games watching youtube videos using wifi there is no more hot problem in my phone hope its help

give a try with latest NELP2 herd its gud with some uk users
kernal matters man
Sorry, forgot to mention Kernel...
It did this with the one supplied with ROM, and also with Siyah 3.2b3, 3.2b4, 3.2b5 (which is my current)...
No OC, all stock "default" profile, with the only changed option being the charging mode (but this should be irrelevent as I havent actually plugged the phone into anything yet...)..
Thanks, I will give suggested modem a try and see if that helps Open to any more suggestions based on 1st hand experience

I have had this modem since this was posted, and what a difference so far!!
I have not been out and about much, but on the journey home from work, for which I usually have 4 bars of signal, I had 5 constantly, never went lower...
Also, the phone is not as warm, and it may be a little early to tell - but the battery life appears a tad better too!!
Thank you so much for this advice! Ive been so pleased with it, I even flashed my friends phone with it too!

hello friend
i have evo 3d with stock 4.0.3... my mobile wifi and data always enable... that my my battery work just for 4 hours or maimun 5 hours i always need to put my mobile on charging...
is there any kernel .... that have less battery drain....
if u gays know please paste the link
thanks in advance...
gays?
Maybe a bad flash, or you have to let the rom settle.
Can you tell me what exactly is draining your battery? (settings > battery)
There is some forbidden kernel somewhere which may do some good. But i advice you to flash another rom, stock rom sucks.
Are you in a low signal area? My battery life is horrendous when I am. Also what is your screen on time? Four to five hours of screen on time would be excellent.
I am using the same stock rom,but I always keep the wifi and mobile network off. I usually turn them on when I really need them. I DON'T think rom change could solve your problem if you always keep wifi on. My advice, you might try it.

you supposed to say guys right? haha ,i use miui always lasts 48 hours on newest official version
kernel makes all the difference on battery drain, i would suggest you try a completely stock rom and judge the drain over a couple of days
Battery drain is always going to vary from rom to rom and user, everyone uses different apps, sync times etc, so saying that your best bet is to flash different roms with different kernels and test which combination works for you
( Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh! )
i need something as well. i get about 8 hrs during normal use and minimal 3g usage.
yeah are you roaming alot? how old is your battery? how much are you actually using it? i could see if your on it the whole 4hrs then it would die. if your gonna root ive had incredible battery life with the meanROM v45.
what is the best battery replacement for e3d?
i'm on mikvirgin 1.01.
hardware 0002
stock htc kernel
been seeing a ton of new battery drain since installing the latest swype.
so, i guess my point is: what was the last thing you remember installing since you noticed battery drain.
i know, i know...you hear this all over xda.
but, it's for a reason.
ply a little practicality and solutions just show themselves!
my battery life is pretty good . i do alot of data streaming w subsonic and pandora ect too.
i'm usin paranoid android 2.52, w 3.0.6poonkang that it comes with i believe. im gonna run it up and down a few times and see what kind life i get w this rom, i'm coming from elegancia!, which was a great rom too. def worth the flash! ill report bat stats soon!
My phone needs everey ~8 hours a charge but mobile data and 3G is always on (Custom Firmware).
Think about a battery replacement.
Have you thought about using software in addition? I've had good luck using Juice Defender on my 3D
