Hello XDA.
I'm considering to flash a custom rom on my htc hero. I'm wondering which custom rom does have the best battery life, which would you recommend?
I would like a rom that can last a day, so that i only have to charge over night?
By the way, how do i find out if i have the gsm or cdma edition?

If you live in the us you have the cdma. Every other place in the world use gsm.

Battery life has more to do with how you use the phone rather than the rom, most are similarly optimised now.
It nice to hear. How much battery time do you get?
Which ROM would you recommend? Been Thinking of installing beHero.

Personally i get between 1-4 days on a standard battery depending on how I use the phone, and I get between 4-10 days on my extra life battery (3000 mah).
I use VillainROM and am currently on 5.2, but 5.3 is out in about 30 mins or so. I have heard good things about many of the roms, check out their features and see which you prefer.

Not necessarily! The US does use GSM as well as CDMA - it just uses a different set of frequencies. A Telus Hero is a GSM Hero and will work on AT&T in the US.

It can brick your phone, however as long as you don't flash a GSM radio on a CDMA hero or visa versa (assuming they have cdma radios?) you are fairly safe. Also don't pull the battery out whilst its happening. Just be patient, it can take a while for some people apparently (10 mins or more), though it takes about a minute on mine.
All the radio does it let your phone know where signal towers are, from what I gather. Though people often talk about some radio's working better with certain rom's and they apparently affect battery life - i'm not entirely convinced.
Okay. Could it have any effect on my signal strengh? Are you using the laste radio rom?
Thanks for the help and guides. Now i've got it all up and running Has been a greate help, and i'm really looking forward to use android 2.1 Will see if i change back to HTC when they can get their act together and release the 2.1 update for android

Yes I'm on the latest radio. I noticed a difference, before i only ever got 2 bars of signal max, now it ranges from 0 to full.
If you continue with the 2.1 custom roms when the devs get the new kernal i'm sure there will be some nice features.

just a last question. When you get 1-4 days on the standard battery, do you turn it off at night? And how much do you use it during the day, for texting, calling, internet and so on?

Stays on at night, for my alarm in the morning. I use it for calls for approximately 30-60 minutes every couple of days. Send about 10-20 texts a day. Usually check for updates to apps on a daily basis, as well as twitter updates and some browsing of the net when i'm away from computer. Not heavy use really.
Just make sure you turn stuff off when you're not using it - i.e. wifi, 3g, bluetooth, sync, backlight, etc (there is a power control widget for most of these, and a 3g widget separate)
Mine might get 3 days with moderate-low usage.I have Villain Rom 5.3 and of course i keep closed bluetooth,wifi,gps,3g when i don't use them. Also i have Advanced Task Manager to kill all apps that might run on the background when i don't need them.

I owned the HD2 back in like march but returned it because i despised winmo.
I now own the MyTouch Slide and it's an everyday use phone but it's lacking (i miss the size and beauty of the HD2. And now with android on it, i have a few questions.
Is android ready for ever day use on this phone?
I mean not having to charge the phone multiple times and not having stability and crashing issues.
Also, how's the battery life on this phone? I don't have data, i use and have wifi around me 90% of the time.
Thanks!

Well I'm on the New Nexus One Android 2.2 Build FRG33 [ mccm v1.5](8.9.2010) build and all I can say is it's great, only had to charge my phone twice with moderate use, wi-fi usually on when being used also

Twice since Thursday afternoon, just put it on the 3rd now.
Um I'd say a bit of browsing here and there, about 30/40 messages, just general stuff really, nothing too specific!!!
so it's got decent battery (no mutliple charges per day). that's what i wanted to know. Thanks!
Hello all!
My Brother is over right now and he is an owner of the HTC Thunderbolt.
He just got the newest OTA update on his phone a few mins ago.
He was telling me his battery life n' such was very horrible.
I was telling him how my HTC Evo 4G was the same way when I first got it. I was telling him how I rooted the phone and installed a ROM that gave me better performance and battery life.
So I talked him in to rooting his Thunderbolt. Now I am trying to figure out What ROM or Kernel would be best to flash on his phone for better Battery Life.
Also before I rooted his phone I wanted to ask to make sure I would not run in to any issues since his phone just received an OTA Update.
I know with ROM's it is usually best to test them all and go with the one you feel is best. I was hoping someone could give me some insite though on to which ROM would improve battery life the most.
He wants to stick with Sense. Don't care if it's Froyo or GB.
Thanks for the advise/help!
You can look into damf, synergy, and gingeritis all great Roms. But in my opinion gingeritis give me the best battery for my TBOLT and performance I give it synergy I'm using that now and its my fav out of all of them. But they are all great roms devs did good jobs.

He should see how battery life does for a week or so because of the new update. Then decide if he wants to root.

I agree with this. But if he wants to root now tell him to try out bamf 1.8.6. Its really stable and it is much much better on the battery.
I've been running synergy and now liquids new gb rom and both have had great battery life..especially compared to when I first got the phone.

Does he live in an area with LTE? If not, disabling the LTE radio would help battery life. To do this, open the dialer, any type *#*#4636#*#*
This will bring up a menu. Choose phone information, then scroll down and under "set preceded network type" choose cdma auto prl. This will disable the LTE radio, which causes battery drain in a none LTE area because it is constantly searching for an LTE signal.

Can the new OTA be rooted? I just got the T-bolt and my GF accidentally accepted the update when she was playing with my phone and now I'm stuck with it

yes it can
I'm also on synergy and love it and getting great battery life (easily 12 hours on 4g) make sure he also downloads setcpu and sets it to scale down cpu when the screen is off that saves a ton of battery.
try inj3ctth3ory rom the battery life is good so far

Thanks for that. I had him set that on his phone.
The new update did not help with the battery as you all know by now lol.
I will probably make him install ROM Manager so he can switch between ROM's to choose one he likes.
I will also have him grab SetCPU.
Thanks for the tip's / advice!
running liquid aosp+ kangbang. overclocked to 1228/245 ondemand. off the charger at 9am im now down to 75% with virtually no usage. is this bad for 4g being on?
looking at battery usage is says cellular radio is taking up everything. im on the latest leaked radio too. i wonder if i should go back the the last official ota radio.

That's about double what mine is using on standby with no use. I'm looking at about 1.6% per hour standby. I'm on the RUU 2.11 radio too. I've got my sync schedule set up to fairly conservatively, and made sure it doesn't update whether whenever the widget is viewed.

I'd point the finger at the ROM. I'm using the same radio and getting much better results than you're showing, and I'm using a Sense ROM. Your's should be equal or better than that. Even under moderately heavy use I can eek out 10 to 12 hours on a charge. You should definitely be doing better than that on an AOSP ROM, I would think.
I would stay off LTE unless you're actually using it. It's just a waste if your phone is just idling.

CDMA is STILL a battery killer. It can kill a battery FAR, FAR faster than LTE ever could. I'm inclined to agree with Fixxxer2008; what's the point in having LTE if you can't just use it? And at 1.4 percent per hour idling, I'm not sure that qualifies as a grotesque overuse of power. I think that's conservative by ANY measure.
Buy the extended battery.
I refuse to neuter my phone.

If the OP wants to take the time to deal with it, I would wipe /system, /cache, dalvik cache and /data and redo their rom over again with only restoring user data at the most. Perhaps something just coincidentally went out of wack with the latest update you did for the ROM. I doubt it's the radio doing it, but it would take more time/effort to know like reading through the logcat to see if there's anything weird going on and such.
i was gettibg pretty decent battery with CM7 + DreamKernal + MR 3.5 radio
i could watch a whole movie and it would use abour 10% battery
that and when i'd go to sleep(normally 5 - 6 hours), when i woke up it lost about 7 - 8% battery.
i switched to the latest Synergy + DreamKernal + MR 3.5 radio
only did so because of issues with Skype
now it consumes 13 - 15% battery watching a movie, and wheb i wake up it's used more then 20% battery.
i have the 2750 extended battery

Use a ROM that allows you to toggle between 3 and 4g. That way you can switch to 4g when you'really in data-heavy mode and idle in 3g.
I believe at least a Chingy related ROM has such a toggle.

Go back and read the thread. I'm using about 1.3 percent an hour at idle. I'm running a Chingy ROM. I don't toggle LTE. Cutting the balls off your device isn't much of an answer. That's like cutting your arm off to cure an infection. That answer ain't good enough for me, and I'm feeling its not good enough for him.

Remember to use the settings in terminal it recommends so you can choose how much it will undervolt and which governor it will use.
And exit the menu using 14 otherwise what you choose will not be saved.

hello friend
i have evo 3d with stock 4.0.3... my mobile wifi and data always enable... that my my battery work just for 4 hours or maimun 5 hours i always need to put my mobile on charging...
is there any kernel .... that have less battery drain....
if u gays know please paste the link
thanks in advance...
gays?
Maybe a bad flash, or you have to let the rom settle.
Can you tell me what exactly is draining your battery? (settings > battery)
There is some forbidden kernel somewhere which may do some good. But i advice you to flash another rom, stock rom sucks.
Are you in a low signal area? My battery life is horrendous when I am. Also what is your screen on time? Four to five hours of screen on time would be excellent.
I am using the same stock rom,but I always keep the wifi and mobile network off. I usually turn them on when I really need them. I DON'T think rom change could solve your problem if you always keep wifi on. My advice, you might try it.

you supposed to say guys right? haha ,i use miui always lasts 48 hours on newest official version
kernel makes all the difference on battery drain, i would suggest you try a completely stock rom and judge the drain over a couple of days
Battery drain is always going to vary from rom to rom and user, everyone uses different apps, sync times etc, so saying that your best bet is to flash different roms with different kernels and test which combination works for you
( Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh! )
i need something as well. i get about 8 hrs during normal use and minimal 3g usage.
yeah are you roaming alot? how old is your battery? how much are you actually using it? i could see if your on it the whole 4hrs then it would die. if your gonna root ive had incredible battery life with the meanROM v45.
what is the best battery replacement for e3d?
i'm on mikvirgin 1.01.
hardware 0002
stock htc kernel
been seeing a ton of new battery drain since installing the latest swype.
so, i guess my point is: what was the last thing you remember installing since you noticed battery drain.
i know, i know...you hear this all over xda.
but, it's for a reason.

my battery life is pretty good . i do alot of data streaming w subsonic and pandora ect too.
i'm usin paranoid android 2.52, w 3.0.6poonkang that it comes with i believe. im gonna run it up and down a few times and see what kind life i get w this rom, i'm coming from elegancia!, which was a great rom too. def worth the flash! ill report bat stats soon!
My phone needs everey ~8 hours a charge but mobile data and 3G is always on (Custom Firmware).
Think about a battery replacement.
Have you thought about using software in addition? I've had good luck using Juice Defender on my 3D
Hi Everyone,
I am still hanging on to my Rezound even though it sux. I am not sure what is going on but every ROM I flash i am getting crappy battery life. I have an extended battery and it only lasts about 5-7 hours. Sometimes only 3-4 hours!
I have tried my battery in another Rezound and it works fine. I have followed the steps to flash my ROM cleanly. I have also not downloaded any apps, I have only been using what comes with the ROMS. Lastly, I have made sure wifi and BT are off, and even dimming my screen.
What else can I do besides smash my Rezound with a mallet. I hate this phone right now. Should I flash a new radio, were is the best place to get them from?
I have used alot of Neo's ROMs and curretnly running Nils Business Sense. I really like using stable ROMs with the camera working!
Thanks...
