Remove SIM lock cingular 8125 G4 - G4

I have a cingular8125, or HTC wizard G4 i'm trying to use on sprint's networks instead of anal at&t's. I suppose that means i need to remove its sim lock so how do i go about doing that?
Also, whats the max size flash memory these phones can hold? I've got one person telling me 2gb (according to wikipedia) and another saying that its 4gb (also backed up on wikipedia) so I figured, ask people with these phones.

i don't know if that works with 4g
you need to try to find out
i know it works on 3g 8125

Can I buy Cingular 3125 & use Vodafone SIM?

It may sound like a silly question, but can I use a UK Vodafone Sim in a Cingular 3125?
Here's the story. I live in the UK and have a Qtek 8500, I simply love this phone - however, the Cingular 3125 is an updated version of this with a bigger 128MB ROM and a bigger 1100mAh battery, which would be ideal. I would love to be able to buy a European SIM free version of this phone - I have trawled the net and the bottom line from what I can tell is that this phone is only available from Cingular. So the only alternative is to buy a Cingular 3125 on Ebay.
My concern is whether it is compatible with GSM? The USA bands are different if I remember correctly, and presumably the phone is SIM locked. I don't mind paying to get it SIM unlocked as long as it will work OK in Europe.
Is this at all possible, and why the heck don't they sell this phone unbranded in the UK from either Qtek, imate, or Dopod?
(The other issue would be the charger being US, but I presume my Qtek 8500 charger will suffice)
Anybody know if I will pay customs or any tax to import this phone from the USA to the UK?
It is a quad band phone and I bought it so that I can use it with european sims. It should work. My other quad band phones from cingular worked, but they were all motorola. I guess I will find out in April!!
I don't know about the taxes.
@admisi,
As you suspect, a Cingular 3125 will certainly require SIM unlock to work with a Vodafone SIM (will need that for any SIM other than Cingular SIM). But as deecee52 notes, it is quad-band, which means it has all the the 900mHz+1800mHz goodness to work all over Europe (the other two bands in the "quad" are the US 800+1900). Just like your Qtek 8500 would work fine in US with SIM unlock and US SIM (all the StarTrks have 800+900+1800+1900 bands).
Your thoughts about the improvements in the 3125 are dead-on. I find that the battery life in my 3125 is fantastic, and it has a ton of available storage memory, even after all the extra junk that Cingular has put on it. When I go to Settings > About, it shows 52MB of available storage (and I have a number of apps installed, including PocketPlayer, Windows Live Search, Google Maps). But keep in mind that the beefed-up battery adds a few millimeters of thickness to a hump in the back, versus the sleeker Qtek/iMate/Dopod versions (doesn't bother me, I still find it plenty slim)...
All that being said - if you are not already doing so, you might want to keep an eye on "HTC Erato" (aka HTC S420, aka HTC StarTrk the Next Generation), which it is rumored that HTC will be rolling out starting next month. That is, if you want a new flipper with WM6, 3G HSDPA data, GPS, and FM radio capability (at least those are in the leaked specs - nothing officially announced yet)...
http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=727
Thanks for the info on that. Yeah, I clocked the HTC Erato a while back..looks like it's got it all (except WiFi)...
To be honest I'm a bit skeptical, all those goodies, 3G, even Built in GPS and only an 960mAh battery!!!!!Somehow I think there's gonna be power issues here.
^ Agreed - battery is my big question about the Erato too. 3G in particular - seems I always read things where people say their phone uses more battery when on HSDPA. Perhaps we will find we have to wait for someone to come out with an extended battery for the thing...

3 SIM in SPV

Hi All
Has anybody managed to get a 3 (Three network) SIM to work on an Orange SPV after SIM unlocking.
I would like to be able to use my other phone's SIM in the Hermes.
All advice appreciated.
Thanx in advance
Asif
Hermes - The Mother of All Mobiles
yes, it works fine
(uk)
Can you get full HSDPA speeds though?
My 3 SIM in my TyTn won't let me go above GPRS as its not my primary phone. So I'm paying for a service I can't use. I've spoken to their CS who basically said, no sorry, you've got to use that Nokia we sent you as your phone.
My T-Mobile SIM out of my 3G data card for my laptop works like a charm.
Guess which contract I'll be ripping up next month? Clue: its not the T-Mobile one.
I have put in a 3 PAYG SIM card and it worked, but I didn't test any calls.
What does happen though is the roaming triangle icon appears if you turn off 3G, which I guess is right because it's technically roaming on Orange (although the network name still says '3')
apparently most of the networks are distributing new sim cars for use with their 3g networks, and because of the upgrades, older sim cards wont work with newer services. my 3g service in the us wont work with an older US at&t card, and they had to give me a new one. so give 3 a call and ask them for a new sim card. say yours got broken or something, otherwise they may charge you. but ask first if they will give you one free first. good luck
nstefanelli
I think your problem might be that the 3 hsdpa service you are on is x series. I have asked in their shops about it, because it seems to be the best 3g deal, but they said its only compatible with a few phones made specifically for x series, eg n73. And it cant be used on other phoens because it is a sort of program embedden in the phones, rather then a homepage like vodafone live, which you can just link to.
Hope i have helped, and correct me if im worng

Dual Sim for Athena

I have been trying to use a dual sim adaptor with Athena but would not boot with it on. Anybody had any success? It will be great for me to be able to use both 3 and standard without removing the sim. it is a pain to remove it on Athena as this is under battery and sometimes needs a flat screwdriver to remove it...

Do you mean dual SIM or dual SD?
Dual sim of course not dual SD
Well, i've got an old DualSIM adaptor (anlog) which worked fine on my Himalaya.
My Athena boots without problems when i use this adaptor, but it takes me 3 or 4 restarts of the phone to get the DualSIM adaptor changin the SIM.
But i guess i have some issues with my SIMCards, they really look screwed up, makes me wonder why they work anyway
Maybe a newer Radio could have an impact on this Issue too.
Right now i use Radio 1.50 and AP Dual PK3.
If your SIMCards are screwed up the Athena won't boot, also my SIMAdaptor needs both SIMCards entered. With only one SIMCard in it, the Athena won't boot.
BTW: SIMDisplay (can be found on sourceforge.net) is the perfect Todayscreen Plugin for Displaying the active SIM.
I have one running but ...
finally I obtained a Simore dual sim working. But my problem is due I have one line for voice and other one for data, if should be possible to have some mechanism that in base to which sim is activated obtaining working the data connection or not. Do you know if it is possible?
Hi Beginner. Could you please post the model info of the Simore dual SIM you found worked with Athena? I'm currently looking for one. Thanks.

The Connection Setup Wizard will detect the network that you've just switched to and offer to set your data connection to match it. It'll do that every time the network changes.
If you're looking to buy a SIMore dual SIM adapter for the Athena, DON'T. The SIMore dual SIM won't let you connect to WCDMA network so you won't be able to use HSDPA or 3G!!!! I bought one from them and in the process of getting an RMA to return this piece of junk back to them now. Their online ad is fraudulent when they say it's 3G compatible. It is not. It only let you connect to GSM which only offers up to EDGE.
Is there any dual SIM adapter that will let you connect at 3G speeds out there?
PS: If you're only using EDGE at the moment and don't think you will ever never for the rest of your life upgrading to HSDPA, then by all means, flush your money down the toilet and buy this expensive piece of junk.
Thanks for the warning. Thought it was useful to have.
no dual sim
shame there is none yet. it will be great to have a truely dual phone. Networks will hate it
I think it could be posible but not easy to create a soft sim somehow. instead of having to change my three.co.uk hdspa compat sim between Athena (why the hack they do not do the sim reader as a slot accessible without removing battery) and my mac laptop is a nightmare. I tried to use Wifirouter, but it crashes athena quite often.

Under the factory ROM I never had it crash, even with hours of use at one time. I haven't used it under AP4 yet. Maybe you have a conflict with another program?
not installed anything apart tomtom 6 legal

Iam not sure what are you explaining.
are you using a dual sim system?
does it works? which is it?
thanks.
i tried using few none worked. I find very difficult in swaping sims without the add o a flat screwdriver, also removing battery is not fun.
I am wondering if it will be possible in developing a virtual sim card that will copy the info from our sim card allowing the phone to work with it?

Stock o2 UK ROM - Where?

Hi folks, can anyone point me in the right direction for a stock uk o2 rom?
I have been asked to look at my brother in law's S740 but am beginning to think something is corrupt. I have a thread in the general section if anyone wants a look.
If one is not available, is there a generic english ROM around?
Many thanks.
EDIT: I did find on, linked to from this board but unavailable. I found the same file elsewhere, but it told me it was the wrong one when I tried to flash it.
Hey,
Odd it won't install if you really have an Orange. I tried it on my 'Asia' S740 and it gave me the same error but now that HardSPL is available thanks to jocky2001 I was able to install the Orange S740 rom! I thought update had failed because it stuck at a generic 'Operator' boot screen FOREVER but eventually it did finish booting & initial setup. Bad news is that although the rom seems to work I can't get a signal. Perhaps the radio has been highly customized for Orange, not sure. The odd thing is everywhere I've looked says the Orange S740 is Quad band & even shows 850/1900 on spec pages but those are not even options in band selector.. Anyhow, if you want to give the Orange ROM a shot, try jocky2001's hardspl (worked for me) and maybe you'll at least get it installed.
Bill
Thanks Bill.
To be honest, I don't know what operator it was on before I was asked to look at it, as it was found discarded in the box with all the bits - in a bin!!!
Maybe thats why.
Are the orange ones branded as such? This has no branding apart from the HTC emblem.
Wow lucky you! Hey I think I lost my S740 near that bin.. You might install jocky2001's hardspl then at least try the Orange UK & Asia ROM's. Both roms refused to install on my S740 (HTC told me it originated in Singapore but even Asia ROM refused to intall) but after hardspl I can install either rom.
As far as branding, I've not seen an Orange S740 & the Orange site shows no logos or such but I will tell you the Orange logos display on bootup after installing the Orange ROM vs just HTC logos with the Asia ROM. They do seem to have different apps installed by default but didn't dig too deep to determine which. Pretty sure the Asia ROM auto-configured data settings for me but the Orange one required connection wizard cab although it didn't help much without a signal.
Btw mine says ROSE100 FCC ID:NM8RSV P/N: 99HFB012-00 behind battery if that helps
So does yours even boot or stuck at bootloader or what does it do to make you think the flashed rom is corrupt? Did you try a hard reset to clear settings? Often that works if someone did/installed something that mucked it up.
Bill
Ps. Here is the link to the ROM's I used. The Asia rom has English (is default actually) & seems to be true Quad band enabled vs the Orange which seems to be just dual band since it doesn't show 850 band & although 1900 is listed it won't connect to it for me even though I know AT&T has 850 & 1900 in my area: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=599520
EDIT: OK seems it does support 1900 but only if you manually select 1900 from band list. I tested with both TMobile & ATT SIM's and get a signal. The ATT signal is weaker than normal though because normally the 850 band is a lot stronger in my area than 1900. Field test confirms it's running on PCS/1900 band not 850. So far I found no way to get 850 to work but odds are there is a way since the radio supports it. (Works with Asia ROM on same phone)
It wasnt the ROM file that I thought was corrupt, it was more a case of trying to refresh / reload the various rom sections back onto the phone as there is nothing in the way of phone signal.
There is an image of the problem in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=648169 - if you haven't already seen it.
I'll give it another go, but when I tried to flash an asia rom both before and after jocky's SPL it just throws up the "invalid vendor ID" error.
Yeah I assumed you meant the ROM on the phone was bad not the file.
No I hadn't looked at your other thread, I had just posted on this one because it was about the ROM. I get that symbol when I put in a bad/disabled SIM. I think it just means there's no service but emergency calls can still be made if there is a signal. The symbol is different if there is no SIM. Does it give you a 'locked' error indicating it's SIM locked to a carrier? Maybe the SIM slot is bad.. Or maybe the phone was reported stolen so the carrier is blocking it.. Have tried to run fieldtest.exe with a SIM in to see if it is indeed connected to a tower? Not sure what band it'd show for you but for me it is either 850 or PCS even if bad/disabled SIM is installed indicating it does have a signal for at least 911/emergency calls. Anyway, I'd hope you at least did a hard reset clear storage at least already & next do hardspl & install either original orange or Asia rom. I can confirm both posted on xda work on my S740 (aside from lack of 850 band on Orange rom) after installing the hardunlock where they did not work at all (same ID error) before the unlock..
Ok, here's the results of my testing, without having to install Jockey's SPL.
Both ROM's you refer to flashed ok. Obviously I didn't try to hard with the Orange ROM as I dont have an Orange sim to try.
I flashed the Asia ROM with success but still have the problem of no service.
HOWEVER, after having a play with the band and network selection settings, it now asks me to select a network, but the only one listed is T-Mobile.
Again, I only have an o2 sim to try as this is the preferred operator my bro wants.
This now leads me to believe that T-Mobile is the only one listed because it is locked to that carrier.
My assumption may be totally incorrect as my knowledge of phones is pretty much zero, but if this is the case, would you or anyone else know of a way to unlock it pretty much for free, lol, especially now the HardSPL is available.
Sorry, I meant to answer you other questions at the same time.
It could be the slot is bad, and I'm pretty sure it's not been blocked by the carrier as it was found by a cleaner working in an office.
In the bin were the box, phone, CD's, headphones and USB cable.
Even the little square pages of literature were there.
Its almost like it has stopped working and the owner has just taken his / sim out and binned it. !!
There hasnt been any locked error either.
I'll try that fieldtest next.
EDIT: I put the phone down for 10 minutes while typing this and getting fieldtest, only to pick the phone up and now have Orange on the "choose network" screen. I'm going to leave it overnight and see if it can get o2, lol.
Cool you got the roms to install but very strange it would let you without hardspl.. Btw, Orange ROM does not mean you have to use Orange SIM. Note that the Orange ROM has a newer radio which is worth a try too. For testing I'd leave the band stuff on auto unless you're sure you know what you're doing because it's easy to set it to wrong band & assume you get no signal. lol And I'm sure you want O2 but worth trying any valid SIM you can find just to see. But yeah the network select trick is helpful too just to see what is available but it can show different results depending on what SIM is in it, status of that SIM etc. If your phone was locked to a carrier it should tell you so when you 1st boot up with a SIM from a different carrier in it. And after searching I see nowhere that TMobile has ever had branded S740 so doubt seeing just TMobile in list is an indicator of being locked to Tmo.
Sounds like a SIM issue since it is doing the same as when I put a deactivated SIM in. I'd say either the SIM socket/contacts are bad, SIM isn't inserted properly, incompatible SIM (maybe they are super old?) or possibly the phone had damage to either antenna or water damage that ruined something. The more SIM's you try the better to narrow it down, especially if you were able to get your hands on an active Orange SIM.
Of course it's possible the phone's IMEI has been blacklisted as stolen & that is causing your phone to not be able to register on a network with SIM installed. From everything I've read when a phone is blacklisted it'll either say an error about not being able to register with network or simply show no signal as if a deactivated SIM was installed. I'd say if that is the case they'll come knocking on your door since they'll trace it back to your account. hehe US carriers don't seems to partake in the blacklist system so feel free to ship it to me & I'll test it here for you.
Well, just to close this thread.
I tried various ROM's available from this site and none worked.
I did have limited success as posted above but overall, nothing. The phone has now gone back to the person who asked me to look into it and to my knowledge he is going to sell it to one of these phone reclaim companies.
I did check and one place, I think throught the post office, is offering £80 ish so not bad I suppose.
Anyway, thank you to all who have made suggestions and wotnot. Personally I'm still happy with an old Nokia 6300 and my Wizard (Mini-S)
Thanks folks.

[Q] going to france... can i use my TMOUS there? provider?

hi guys,
I'm going to France to visit my family this Friday and so I'm thinking of using my HD2 which is a TMOUS model.
My plan is to buy a prepaid sim card with some credit so I can call friends and family while there.
so I'm guessing it's going to work because the difference between the Leo and Leo US is only the size of the RAM, right?
All providers are using GSM 900/1800 and WCDMA 2100 frequencies, is there anything I need to be wary about?
also if any of you can recommend a provider and why, I'd be grateful
thanks in advance
welcome to France
1) make sure your HD2 is SIM unlocked ... if not, no prepaid card will fit your device
2) regarding providers: "les loups ne se mangent pas entre eux" French saying = "wolves don't eat each other" - prepaid card are more expensive than monthly fee which is normal - coverage of the 3 French providers (Orange / SFR / Bouygues) is similar, others are only retailers ... SO ... choose the cheapest!
3) be careful with the data connections if there's no unlimited plan with the prepaid card
Laurent
Haha you're getting me worried about the unlocking thing now lol
I'm running a custom win rom and android all the time so how do I know if my phone is unlocked? (although I assume it is)
Anyway I'll probably just take the cheapest and pass on the 3g
Thx for the input and don't worry I understand french btw :>

CID unlock that allows you to flash any ROM is DEFINITELY NOT SIM unlock
if your phone is branded TMobile = big chances it's SIM lock and accepts ONLY TMobile SIM cards (try it with a friend's SIM card who's not registered TMobile and you'll know)
I successfully SIM unlocked an HTC HD2 via http://www.htccode.com/ for something like US $ 20
cheers
Laurent
Like Lpubv says, you need first Unlock your device to use another SIM Card!
I Know that you can unlock it free by using a goldcard method, but i can't remeber where i seen it!
Moreover it should works cause he's note like the EVO he runs "normal'' network! But i cannot be sure because i never tested it!
Yea I knew my phone was not unlocked so I requested the code directly from t-mobile which I got the day after.
What happened (or actually didn't happen) is that my phone never requested the unlock code when I rebooted with a different SIM card. And so I've never been able to unlock it. Is the unlock process only enabled with stock roms?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
to nks2105:
it's NOT ONLY inserting another SIM card ...
it's inserting another SIM card from a different provider!
if you already did this and was not requested to insert a code = big chances your phone be SIM unlocked
anyway ... if you have your TMobile code with you ... no problem ... you won't get stuck!
to G-ThGraf:
unlock with GoldCard???
can you please make a small effort for me ... and remember?
I don't really need to SIM unlock my phone, BUT just for the fun I'd like to be able to do it ... and as I never saw that info ... I'm tremendously curious ...
Yea I guess you're right it has to be a SIM card from a different carrier but that's what I did, I put a SIM card from SFR but still nothing happened
