Hey
Can anybody recommend a stable and fast vanilla 2.1 ROM for the Hero?
I've tried Vanillain but found it to be quite laggy and FC'ing.
If not, can anybody suggest any 2.1 ROM I can use and just disable SenseUI?
Thanks
kie.
Im in search for this also. Currently using latest ahero but im not satisfied. Best vanilla rom I've tried is aychteesee but that's 1.5 it is fast as hell. Every 2.1 rom i tried is laggy as hell.

Exactly the same for me,,, I like Vanilla but agree, the 1.5 makes it not an option for me.... please can someone help us ??????
I'm sure we'll see some good vanilla 2.1 ROMs once HTC releases the 2.1 kernel source. Of course, that could take forever.
To be honest, the best "workaround" I have found is to use a 2.1 ROM and disable Sense UI.
I have been using Legendary recently using this method, the battery life is second best to any other ROM I have tried but it is very laggy and annoying to use. I find that AutoKiller shows a lot of processes running which can be stopped. This does speed the handset up alot, but say you close the People application, then open it again, it takes a while to show contacts.
I am literally going back to SenseHero 1.6 as we speak because 2.1 ROMs arn't great at the moment, and I will be disabling SenseUI, seems to use alot of resources and slows the phone down a bit.
For people who want to disable SenseUI...
Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > SenseUI and click Clear Defaults. Press the Home button and then choose Home (you can also tick the box to use Home as the default Launcher)
BTW, I am quite new to android so any other advice would be cool, like what can actually be done with a rooted handset? I have failed to see any benefits yet (apart from an unlock)...

The best 2.1. IMO is Villain 3.4
As mentioned I've disabled sense and installed helix launcher.... I've tried all the roms, but 3.4 gives me the speed I need and most important, everything works.
The absolut very best rom is "SenseHero2.1" from "Stickman" (or try the 1.6 version, also still available)
its: FAST, STABLE, GOOD LOOKING, and WORKS!

oh, and no GPS problems or forced closings whatsoever, enjoy!

I have to agree that this rom is very veruy good,.... only problem is the vanilla lockscreen
Every ROM on 2.1 i tried is very slow compared to the fastest 1.5 there is like aychteesee. And disabling sense is only changing the homescreen i like vanilla everywhere
Personally, I use Fresh 2.0d rom found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=643034
My advice is to update your recovery console to RA 1.6.2 (check version for your phone first at the site) .. found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561124
Once you're RA is up to date, use the utiilities in the RA console to do a nandroid back up of your o/s, then wipe system and existing partition, repartition your sd card and convert ext2 to ext3. It will only take a minute to do all of that.. its really easy. Then flash Fresh rom and check his site for standard sprint apps if you want to install them. The rom has auto a2sd if you're interested in having your apps stored and run from your sd card. It didnt work on mine until I went into the recovery and manually flashed the as2d program using Darktremor A2sd 2.6:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=670087
After that, it worked great (at least for me it did). Pretty much everything works on the rom with the exception of live wallpaper, you can add it but then the weather animations wont work so its one or the other based on what you prefer. They have a fix for the lock screen as well but it has 3 different options based on alarm preferences. Other than that, I found it to be fast, functional and fun. Definitely better than any other rom I've used so far and about the closest you'll get right now to anything resembling an official 2.1 rom. Just remember to make that nandroid backup of your o/s before you do anything in case you don't like the rom (which I doubt will happen).
Best of luck guys!
another vote for fresh 2.0d, ran so much faster than the sprint 1.5 i had even after i removed all the bloatware.

hi everyone!
i have some doubts about vanilla (froydvillain) vs sense. i recently rooted my hero and flashed a recovery, but i'm using stock 2.1 rom... so here you have some questions: (sorry if they are epically stupid LOL)
1. does 2.2 vanilla has flash lite in the browser... for example, when you go to a site in my current rom (2.1 official) you can see the flash animations etc., is it possible on vanilla?
2. does froydvillain support live wallpapers? (i know that they are useless but i love eye candy xP)
3. is there any app that has multi touch in sense and in vanilla doesn't?
4. will the lack of sense, in your opinion, be negatively noticeable? like the dialer, gallery, etc. if yes, are there any third party apps to compensate?
5. finally, what kernel should i choose?

1. No
2. Yes, subject to the usual limitations of the hero hardware regarding 3D wallpapers
3. Not that I know of
4. Not really to me, try nubdialer which should be in the rom, or dialer one. The gallery is a nuisance, but there are recommendations in the thread.
5. I would honestly use the stock one (ie. don't flash any one afterwards), as the ROM is sufficiently fast with no overclock to beat most phones with overclock (in terms of daily use)
thank you for the quick reply! i was going to ask about flashing the kernel but since you said it is not necessary i'll just forget it... about the gallery i'll just google it, about flash lite if i really really miss it i'll just go back to 2.1 rom... xD
well, thank you again!
i'm sorry for posting again, but at the download page are various links, one for the rom and a bunch for the kernels, my question is, do i have to download any kernel or is it "included" in the rom link? i know it is a noob question but it got me confused since at the list of kernels is the "normal" one (576mhz)...

I am using FroydVillian 1.5, it is super fast, stable and the looks are amazing. I do not miss the sunse UI at all, I miss the widgets, but they just use up performance anyway. I flashed the 576 kernel, which was a lower version number than the one that came with it...but as of right now, I have had FV 1.4 and liked it enough to get FV1.5. I have cycled through many roms, and these are the best in my opinion for everyday use...

Hy X10 users!
Time has come to upgrade from Blue Sparks ROM to 2.2 CyanogenMod.
There are three to choose from:
[nekkidtruth] TMR_CyanogenMod_007
[rendeiro2005] Cyanogen6.1.1_v02
[Wolfbreak] CM 6.1.1 Tweaked and with Extras
Which one do you think is the best to use ?
I prefer [rendeiro2005] Cyanogen6.1.1_v02
but you can backup your system and try everyone of these
Go for!!!
[rendeiro2005] Cyanogen6.1.1_v02
I'm in the same boat as you are. I'm having a hard time deciding which CM should I gun for.
All I need is stability with a wide choice if themes.

Simply backup and experiment
[rendeiro2005] Cyanogen6.1.1_v02 for me too. worked almost perfectly in this unit. but as they said you can try them all and installing each from xrec should not take more than 10 minutes
6.1.1 tweaked is a simple looking rom and I thought i was on 2.1 until I checked!
Go for 6.11 v02 and mess with that it has CM all over it!
I just tried the Wolfbreak CM 6.1.1 with Update and I'm disappointed
At first try I could log into google account, downloaded some apps at market, but when I tried youtube it force closed. So I did a restart, but it stuck at the loading screen. Did a full wipe and started all over again. At second try the wifi stuck at scanning so I could not log into network... I say these roms needs a bit more time to get those nasty bugs fixed. At least I saw flash working flawlessly, which is quite promising. Should I try FreeX10 | BETA 4 or it also has similar issues ?

Hi there, I have recently installed DSC Custom Rom ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1314898 ) on my S5.
DSC Rom is the best Custom Rom I've ever seen.
Then, also I install Dell Stage UI linked in that forum.
But, the Stage UI widgets are older version than what I had used with latest Stock Roms (for example 364).
Is there a way to install latest version of Stage UI widgets onto DSC Cunstom Rom?
(I have tried to picked up .apk from Stock Rom and install them on DSC.
However, I failed the way because of some errors, for example missing files)
DSC is based on the 406 ROM, meaning Gingerbread. You likely will have better luck pulling the components of the Stage UI from the 406 ROM than the Froyo ROMs. However keep in mind that most custom ROMs omit the Stage UI for a reason.
Have you tried taking the apk's that you want and pushing them to /system/app with adb?

Thanks for replying. Is it for the compatibility that the most custom Roms omit the Stage UI?

Thanks. I tried some of the apk's that I extracted, but Stage UI Home widgets doesn't work.
Thanks guys, I tested this way http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195455 and finally I success.

Nope. Most omit it because it is both a resource and battery hog. In short, it runs about as well as a dog with no legs.
1.6 works at 'nearly acceptable' levels if you only have widgets you use actually placed, having ones on the home screens that you dont use will slow it down even more.
You can simply sideload the launcher and widgets if you have the correct features set in your permissions.xml (which is included in the zip)
If you're worried about resource use, only install ones that you intend to use.
I've been using it my main launcher now, but i only use the home and email ones. It's still (somewhat) noticably slower then adwex, but it's only riding the fine line between being slow and being so slow that it's distracting.
It's unacceptably slow if you have every screen loaded with a different stage widget, so that's the biggest thing to pay attention to.
Hi,
I am not a Stripper... But I used to love to strip off ROMs in Old GB times... Sadly never thought of making my own ROM and publish it...
So here is a stripped off GB ROM that was lying with me for long but now useless for me since I am ICS fan but might be of some use for GB SOny fanatics...
Download the ROM
Download Kernel (Thanks Aire for the Awesome Kernel of Ancient times)

Sorry as would be done to put in a Ray Xperia bootloader locked, sorry for my bad English ..
If i flash this rom, will i be able to update via pc companion after?
i am so f*cking sick of trying custom roms, nearly every ics rom has problems with a lot of 3d games (**** you, google!!!!), some gb roms have problems with this and that and this and that and so on.
i really like this rom because of its slickness. but WHAT A SURPRIIIISE, of course there's an ugly thing too, i CANT BUY STUFF ON google play via my phone bill.
im so pissed off right now, i'm on the best way to hate android in a very special way. because i got my phone for about a month now and there was not a single rom that satisfied me in every single way / works more than a week without showing (big?) flaws.
i really understand those iphone-people now, "one OS for a few devices, everythings stable and so on".
thats just not possible with android. if you wanna go "beyond" stockrom and stockapps, it doesnt take too long and your F+CKED! happy reinstalling!!
keyboard is not working for me, can please somebody help
this is best GB rom for me. very fast, smooth and good battery life.
Tks

Well if you can afford to buy an iPhone then buy one, but you'll be bored by not having to customise it
I'm guessing you haven't tried the hybrid yet, look for JJdoctor
I have tried every single rom for the Sony Xperia Ray, and this old Gingerbread rom from JJDoctor is by a long way the slickest one for the Ray. ICS is a bit slow for the Sony Ray with the hardware available understandably, but this gblite rom really flies, and you can easily make it look like ICS by downloading ADW launcher and then downloading the ICS theme for free.

Yeah I figured it out but at first I couldn't enter into my profile therefore I couldn't use Google Play
p.s. which baseband should I use ? I think mobile data is not working
I think they recommend baseband 58 but I am using the latest baseband 72, which seems to be the best upto now. The other basebands and even this one a little bit are awful to use as wifi hotspots, every so often there is a long pause where the mobile internet data connection refuses to do anything, I find it really frustrating.
So the problems are mobile data and MTP everything else is perfect.

Any advice on mobile data?

Sorry for the stupid question - it's been a while that I used my X10 Mini Android phone...
I am trying to revive my phone for my son and just installed newest stock ROM from Sony. Everything works as Sony - expected, however I do not find e.g. the App Kytephone in the store to install. I heard that this app pretty much close down the phone and makes any android phone a great kids phone.
Any help how I can install that app? Any stting or update to marketpalce needed Would updating to any custom ROM might make that App available to install ? Which one is most stable (as my son shouldn't use too many features anyway...)
THANK YOU!
It needs Android 2.2 or higher, and sony's latest update is 2.1, that's why you can't find it in the store, so upgrading to a custom froyo or gingerbread rom should do the trick

Awsome - thanks, will try. I know this is a non-checker question and it all depends on individual opinions... However, could you name any ROM that has its strength in stability and battery life?
I would go with MiniCM7, the last version to run on stock kernel was 2.0.7, which is quite stable.
Or you could try this, which should run on 2.1 too

The market will only show apps that are suitable for our phones. You get more choice if you run the latest custom rom (which is Jellybean), but the market will also take into account things like the screen resolution, and the architecture of the chip used.
Apps developed specifically for Armv7 or higher won't run on our phones, which have Armv6 architecture, and if an app requires a resolution higher than 240x320, then the market won't show those options either.
If you want to try an app that is unsopported, find a .apk for that app (use a general search for that app), copy it to your sd-card and install it from there. If the app checks it's own requirements (rather than let google-play decide if it's appropriate) it still won't install though. Sometimes you'll get lucky, but that is really rare.
Usually the only way to get an 'unsupported' app to run is to get a different device that fulfill it's requirements.
