How to create "update.zip" for integrate apps? - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I'd like to create update.zip to integrate app wich can be flashed to any or almost any rom. I'd like to put some essential app in it. Anybody can tell me how can i do this, or is there any guide for this?

Download and install the latest android sdk .also Java jdk find and download autosign. Do this all by searching. I would download a custom rom as a template for your update.zip. extract the data folder and the Meta folder and put into a new folder, go into Meta folder keep clicking through the folders inside Meta one till you find update-script and open it in notepad.
Delete everything except the part saying something like copy package DIRATA and the show progress before it. Once that's all done put the Apps you want into the data folder zip up the data and Meta folders, when you open the zip folder you should only see those 2 no others! Resign it using autosign and flash

+1. Niiice,... A few questions though if you dont mind.
1,... Can I use this command that I use to sign my bootscreens to sign the update.zip ... "java -jar C:\SignApk\SignApk.jar C:\SignApk\testkey.x509.pem C:\SignApk\testkey.pk8 C:\SignApk\bootscreen.zip C:\SignApk\bootscreen_signed.zip" ... and just change the file name as needed? ... Or do the .pem and .pk8 files need to be changed to something else?
2,... If Im using a base custom ROM with Apps2SD, all apps will be installed to the SD right?... Or do they install to the internal memory if you add the apps to the ROM itself?
3,... Is it also possible to add the app and game data (i.e.. game saves) to the ROM or is it best to use a backup programme?
Hope someone can help?

Thanks!
I tought it will harder, but it worked flawlessly
I'd be interested in this too:

It all goes to the Data partition so... If your ROM is using apps2sd and its turned on (for instance im using androbin and i have done the command "apps2sd on" in terminal) the apps you install from then on will go to your sdcard partition.Quite a handy thing on this androbin rom is in sd card and storage it tells me my secondary partition!
Ddotpatell....
1.Yes you can use that command
2.answered above.
3.I would use a backup program personally

Thanks BONESY, much appreciated.

[Q] LGs' Widgets and LG Keyboard on custom ROM

Hello to all...!!!
Today I flashed my first custom ROM (void) on my LG P500 and as a noob I have some questions...
1) Where can I find some LG programms (memo and calendar) and the other LG widgets? I mostly interested in widgets "Weather","Calendar","Analog Clock" and "News and weather"
2) Is it possible to have the LG Keyboard on SMS app on this custom ROM which has only the Gingerbread keyboard?
3) When I had the stock ROM I had made a backup with "Titanium Backup" all my apps and I have it saved in my PC.Can restore in custom ROM only the apps which I want?
Thanks in advance....
For 1 and 2 download this: http://sinap.se/oo/void-sapps.zip and apply in recovery.
For 3 the answer is yes, you can restore which app you want.
Thanks you...!
One more question,I don't want to flash back every deleted system app but some of them. How can I do this?
Of course I don't want appadvisor,Car Home and some other crupps...
extract just the app that you want an put the in them data/app folder you need root file manager or from adb
ΟΚ,I'll try it and I will be back....
Thank you!
With the "File Manager" of void ROM,I can't copy-paste the apps into system/app .
What can I do for this?

Yes, you can.
Anyway, if you extract the files from void-sapps.zip you will see 2 folders. One of the is "system", inside of it, another called "app" there are the ".apk's" that you need corresponding to widgets and programs.
The "News and weather" widget is called "GenieWidget".
You can extract the ones you like to the root of your SD and then, from the File Manager in the phone, install them one by one.
before i've said that you had to have root file manager to copy and paste in system/app
or as Noejn says : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887281
No, you have to re-sign it. Use a program like this one.
Tutorial: How to flash only some sapps
1. Grab the sapps/gapps package
2. Extract it
3. Go to the extracted folder "/system/app/" and delete the applications you don't want to flash
4. Use the above program (zipsigner) to create a CROM.zip, put the extracted files there so you have 2 folders on the root of the zip: META-INF and SYSTEM. Then sign it and it should create a CROM-s.zip.
5. Rename the CROM-s.zip to MySapps.zip, put it in sdcard and flash.

Right, that make sense (to me) if I want to install most of them and leave out just one or two. What about if I only want just -one- widget from the void-sapps.zip?
Isn't better to uncompress void-sapps.zip and take that one out and put it on the SD card, then install it from there?
yes is right what you say but sometimes (for some lg's app) this method don't work

Right, and according to this:

(second part of Noejn questons/answer)
Also is not possible to install directly the Browser and Calendar.
I almost have found what I wanted from sapps zip,but I search for the stock internet browser.Which one of these is that?
I appreciate a lot your help!

[Q] XTRSense 5.01 Questions

This is a question for Zach, but as a new user I did not have access to his thread. First, congratulations on developing a great ROM. You do great work, I love XTRSense 5.01. However, I have come across two small glitches, both related to your GScript app.
After running the Apps2SD script, all of the other scripts disappear. There is a note to find them on the SD card, but I haven't been able to find any scripts there. I specifically want to install the battery life script. Is there a way to recover access to the scripts?
Second, I accidentally ran the script that deleted HTC Teeter. Is there any way to get it back short of reinstalling the ROM?
Thanks in advance ...

Hi! Just to note, I'm not currently running xtrSENSE or xtrROM, but I have quite a lot in the past and probably will again someday, so I thought I'd answer what I can.
1. I don't know what's going on with scripts disappearing, are you sure you actually added them to GScript's list of available scripts? When you load GScript, initially it's blank, and you have to tell it to load each script individually. Make sure the checkbox for run as root is checked for each one. Then the first time you run one from the main GScript screen, it'll prompt you for SU access. Sorry if I'm including info you already know, just making this answer friendly for anyone who happens to find this thread. There should be a folder called gscript on the SD card.
Note: Different folder listing programs list files and folders in different sorting orders. Linux is case sensitive so you can have both a folder named gscripts and one called GScripts (only the first should exist, I'm just using it as example). What I'm getting at is that some programs list all the files and folders with starting with the lower-case letters first, and then the upper-case ones after, so if you look for the folder gscript, make sure and search everywhere in the listing.
Also, if you must, you can open the ROM zip file on your computer and look in the sdcard folder in it and you'll see the gscript folder there with all the scripts inside. Just copy the gscript folder to your SD card if they got deleted somehow.
2. Same as the last suggestion, you can open the ROM zip file on your computer and in the system\app folder there you'll find "teeter.apk". You can use Root Explorer off the Android Market to put that back in system\app, or you could just install it from your file manager (Astro, File Manager...) for it to reside in normal user memory.
Partial Success
"Also, if you must, you can open the ROM zip file on your computer and look in the sdcard folder in it and you'll see the gscript folder there with all the scripts inside. Just copy the gscript folder to your SD card if they got deleted somehow."
This worked perfectly. The GScript folder on the SD card was empty. Not anymore, and the scripts work fine.

I put teeter.apk on the SD card, but my attempts to intall it with ES File Manager failed. Maybe related to Apps2SD?

You don't want it on the SD card. You need to navigate to /system/app in internal storage on the ROM. Apps2sd moves third party apps that you install from the market to the SD card, but does not move the internal apps in /system/app.
You may need to restart after you pop that .apk back in /system/app to get it back in your app drawer.

[Q] How to create update zips in kitchen

as the title suggests i would like to know how to create zips with the android kitchen to update a current rom. eg- i want to make a flashable zip that will reinstall all the bloatware apps that i have removed from my rom?
all answers appreciated
The kitchen doesn't have that feature. Try downloading a mod in the section of thee phone your developing for and open the zip with 7zip don't close it take the apps you want to flag and put then in the system folder in the zip then extract the updater-script and modify it to give it a little message or something then delete the one in. the zip and drag you new one in there I can walk you through it if you don't get it
would it work if i delete everything in the working folder of the kitchen but leave only the folder system and files that i wan to flash? then build rom... would it generate an updater-script to match then without overwriting the main rom when i flash via recovery?
I guess you could do so but why go through all that?
Option 99 in the kitchen. Follow the prompts on the screen

Multiple app install: will this work?

Hi
I'm looking for an easy way to batch install all of my already backed up applications on external SD (in *.apk format) after new rom flashing. My phone is rooted (running RR 2.7). what if using a root explorer I just copy all the apk files to data\app and copy some of them to system\app and then reboot the phone? Will all of these application be automatically installed, while apk's copied to data\app will be installed as user apps, and those copied to system\app will install as system apps? Will this work? Is there a problem in this method? If so I may create a CWM based installer that will do this automatically...
I'm talking about 400 apps, about 600MB in total size//
Thanks
How are they backed up? What did you use to do it? I use Titanium Backup. The paid version allows batch operations.

I used an app called File expert. It can simply find the apk file used in the installation and back it up. I can reinstall the app with the backed up apk. I also tried copying a new apk file to data/app and after restarting the app did install correctly. So I want to use this method to restore all of my apps automatically by creating a CWM zip installation. I need to know if this method is safe and will not cause problems...
Thanks

No need to do any of that crap and mess around. Just use Titanium Backup Pro (paid version) and you can backup all your apps plus the app data so they keep all their settings etc. Then when you install a new rom you can batch install them all back in couple of clicks.

Don't know that app. You can define the backup folder in TiBu to reinstall your apps that way. Or iirc Rom Toolbox will take a batch of apps and create a cwm zip file to batch install.

Using CWM zip installation is actually the best method. It is safe and faster too.
Thanks. I'm familiar with TB and MB. I do not need to restore the app's data. I'm just looking for a way to install all my market apps without actually using the market. I noticed that when you reboot the phone, any new apk file in either system/app or data/app gets installed automatically. So I thought maybe I take a CWM setup file (zip with simple copy to system + data updater-script)' and add all of my backed apk's into the data/app directory then I can install this zip file right after I flash a new rom file. For some reason, CM9 recommends that you do not use TB. I also noticed that dev's use this method to add additional apps to their rom.. I just need to know that this method is ok to use and not cause problems like acquire extra space by creating duplicates of each app (I notice using this method that sometime the original apk I copied was reset to a 0Kb file, and a new apk that starts with the name "com.something.something.apk" is created instead. Is this normal?)
Thanks

I'll help you create a CWM zip template. I'll upload it in about 3 hrs time as soon as i get to my pc
This is a CWM.zip I created for you.
How to:
1. Open the zip file using 7zip, winrar or similar apps (don't extract it)
2. Copy your users apps to data/app, and copy system apps to system/app
3. Close the zip file.
4. Flash the zip file via CWM recovery.
enjoy.

where to place apps in custom rom

Hello Guys,
I am trying to make/edit my first custom rom (forgive my noob mistakes). As base i am using the Oxygen rom. This rom has all his apps stored in system/app. I inserted an launcher(hololauncher), keyboard(custom htcime) and gallery(quickpick) apk in this folder, but after the rom is flashed these apps are causing fc's and the gallery app isnt even flashed.
I know that not every apk can be placed in the system/app folder, but how can i ensure that these apps will install correctly during flashing.
Depends on apps.
The most common mistake is forgetting to set the permissions to rw-r-r.
Also some apps need their lib files (usually end in .so) in a specific location, like quickpic that can't be turned into a system app just by putting it in system/app address.
Edit: you can ensure these apps are installed correctly by testing.
1 install them normally and convert them to system apps.
2 write down where each of their parts end up (some will always need stuff in data/app or something similar.
4 use a root explorer or adb to copy those files to your pc.
5 modify the flashable zip. Add the files you just copied and modify the updater-script to make sure those files get flashed to the correct location (you might need to include mount data commands if any of the files flash to data/)
6 test!
Some apps might require actual edition by decompiling them, but the above should work for most.

How can I convert it to a system app when it already is installed normally ?
I also saw the option to make a data/app folder, isn't that easier ?
(Take in consideration that I don't use kitchen or adb tools, just winrar and notepadcc )
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
Not talking about adb and kitchen.
there are many app managing apps out there (titanium backup, link2sd) that can convert apps to system apps.
The updater script is in META-INF of the flashable zip (can be edited with notepad).
You only need a rooted device to see where the apps keep their data and copy those files.

Yeah, flashing to data app is an option, but if a data wipe or factory reset is applied after flashing the rom (to correct a bootloop for example), those apps are gone.
