Hey,
I'm wondering if the hero can play radio content from bbc iplayer website? I've heard that there are performance issues with videos on iplayer, but is radio OK?
(By the way, I know about the beebplayer app, which is great for video, but AFAIK doesn't play radio shows from iplayer, the only radio it had on the version I looked at is live radio. So I'm asking about listening to iplayer radio shows using the iplayer website.)
If anyone in the UK want's to try this out for me that'd be great. Here's a link to a radio show from yesterday, so if this works hopefully everything will:
bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b00s35z1
(I'm a new user so can't post links, that should have a "www" at the start of it really.)
Oooh, also, could someone check out whether this works on the hero:
news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_8633000/8633988.stm
It's another clip of radio from the bbc, but looks completely different from iplayer, so could be using a different tech for all I know. (This is how they include audio clips in their news articles, including on the Today program's site where they have all the interview from each show listenable individually, which is pretty handy.)
Thanks!
Paul
Tried listening to 1xtra from the iplayer website yesterday,... No sound played.
Trying your links now though,... give me a few minutes.
I have just tried your first link in the stock browser.
Results are as follows:
- loading
- loading seems to freeze
- loading again
- loaded details of show (no sound yet)
- seems as though its trying to play but keeps refreshing its little window
Error - "Insufficient bandwidth to play"
This could be as I only have 2 bar 3g or following BBC's guidance you need wifi connection.
It looks like it wants to work though so if someone can test with a wifi connection.....
Nope,... Im trying with wi-fi,... No luck though. The 1st link loads up correctly, says its playing, but there is no sound and the time counter does not change.
Was the same using my data connection yesterday.
I'll try the 2nd one now,.... Dont get your hopes up.
Nope,.... Sorry,... Its a no go.
Just keeps loading, and loading,.... and loading!!!!
EDIT,....... Tried with Opera and says need to install Flash player,.... DAMIT!!!! All i want to do is listen to 1xtra,... and BeebPlayer doesn't work for me. Maybe we'l get a better browser with 2.1,.... or we'll have to hold out for Skyfire to be released.
That sucks. Thanks for trying though, and for the very speedy replies
beebplayer app now supports radio! only in the last few days though. oh and you will need the new version.

Unfortunately flash 10.1 isn't coming to the hero, because it's not fast enough:

For the moment, we all can download Skyfire!!!Thanks again!
Not real sure what I think about it yet, but has some good features!

I have been useing it for a while and thus far it is my primary browser I like it.
It appears we're to late. Me and several others that have posted on the other message are having the same problem. We get the sorry, we're full message and wait in line FOREVER....
If anyone after 9pm CST gets in, do let me know, but I've tried every combination of upper and lower case for the beta code and none have given me a link that will let me download it.
Oh well,
BTC
Disregard my last post, the secret is after you have done it the correct way, if it tells you that you have to wait, go back and do it exactly the same way a second time, (make sure you click the original verification link from the first SMS) and when you do it the second time, it says, you have been approved and sends another SMS with the download link!!!! WOOHOO
BTC
This worked for me. Thanks man for the cnet100 code .
I was in the second batch of Beta invites. I love the browser. Opera is faster at loads but the Flash makes the difference.
This browser has some cool features. It IS just like viewing the web as they say on the site. You can watch youtube videos (I would rather use youtube player as I believe it to be a better quality, zooming on the video in skyfire cuts some of it out. I can also listen to XM radio on the XM radio site itself and don't have to sacrifice channels with the XM radio program going around.
Also checked out my myspace page, I can hear the music from my page as well. Pretty cool. It checking out weather.com, it shows animated weather radar. Overall I like it.
This app is sweet and works with DCD 3.2.5 on my 6800. Very similar to Pandora if you have heard of that. Check it out. I can stream the stereo audio with bluetooth through my car's stereo.

This program does not work on DCD 3.2.5. I get a parameter error:
The parameter is incorrect.

hmmm interesting, I wish I could get more help with this....
You might get more help if you tell everyone what phone you have and carrier etc. Do you have a login for Last.fm? You have to have a login which you can get on their website. Once you have that you can enter it on your PPC to login. without a login it won't work. FYI.
This works great!! Thanks.

Ok.

I do not have a Last.fm Login but I don't see how that would matter if the app won't launch due to the error I posted earlier.

Hey there try this...Last.FM mobile has been renamed to pocket scrobbler. It is the same thing but less buggy etc. You can find instructions on how to make sure it is all setup correctly here. I have also attached the .cab for pocket scrobbler.
http://www.last.fm/group/Pocket+Scrobbler/forum/84480/_/379147
Thank you very much. Works like a charm. This app is great!
For what it's worth, the last.fm app -didn't- work for me until I logged into the application.
**** this scrobller thing works greater
I understand this app is open source. Any chance some of our great developers could bring some polish to it. Maybe even Slide2Play could incorporate the code?
I miss album art in particular.
Surur
this app called lastradio jus works better. smoother and the stream starts much faster. only thing though, you can only choose one artist at a time and it plays based off that selection. so if i pick tupac....now i get all rap stuff, if i pick marvin gaye...now i get all soul music. wish it could pick up my specific station so i could get the variety without having to manually switch the artist.
if that wasn't the case with this app, it would be beating pocket scrobbler, but it is the case.....so it's a absolute draw. This app is just as good as pocket scrobbler for the fact that there's no jumps in the music. just smooth.

I tried this lastfm and while it works it is so much better to purchase or get pocketunes. works great, fast and stable
just my 2cents
i had a last.fm mobile page that streamed into an external player while showing the now playing in the mobile page. i lost the link and cant find it. any idea what it might have been?
Hi,
First thing I tried was iPlayer on the BBC site, worked fine at first. Just trying now and get 'Adobe Flash download required' message on the iPlayer webpages. Tried other sites and the usual Flash adverts still work.
Anyone else get this?
Thanks
Phil
P.S. Weird...Can watch rerun on bbc main desktop page (Dragons Den) . Perhaps different flash type in main iPlayer pages? Even went to episode I originally watched on Hero, now gives the 'need to install flash' message too!
Tried Beebplayer on the Market?
Regards,
Dave
Every flash site I go to sends me to the 'download adobe' site and it always comes up 'too many redirects' and won't let me load it, including the bbci site. How did you get round that

Yes, but that is not always working. Point is I was able to view it in the BBC page without an additional app.
So can anyone else answer it, or know why I can't get on flash sites or get the 'too many server directs' everytime I get forwarded to Adobe by the flash sites?
I've never been able to view it on the BBC webpage, only in beebPlayer.
Phil, David?
Am I Invisible, I mean it's not a hard question?
OK, HTC got back to me. The same for them now so not my phone. BBC have changed something.
Peter, I don't live on this board so never saw your message. I suggest HTC customer support as they are paid to answer questions. I am not, and don't know what's wrong with your phone.
No Phil, you're not, but you don't mind asking people for help, but then tell me your not paid to help. How charming. And no you don't live on here, but my ask was up there when you left your message the second time.
The purpose of the boards it to help each other, not just tell people your not paid to answer.
I do hope you sort your own problem out
Peter, when I added my message I never saw yours. No intention to ignore. Generally if people don't answer I assume they have no answer.
Perhaps the network you are on would be relevant to the board. Other than that can't see why U would have any problem.
Good luck with your problem.

Chances are that if you don't get an answer, nobody reading this thread has one!
You should probably start a separate thread, because you seem to be having a generic flash issue. It would be useful if you linked some sites that aren't working for you, since "every flash site I go to" isn't particularly helpful.
It should be said though that Flash support in Hero is limited to Flash 9 at present rather than Flash 10, which is become more ubiquitous on the web. Flash 10 support is apparently coming later in the year, or early 2010.
Try the games on the CBeebies website - I know that these work ok.

Dave
bbc iplayer stopped??
You bet they have not stopped the iplayer! (hope the credit crunch won't make them one day...) :
Go directly to bbc iplayer page www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/install
to download their updated version (via Adobe Air), that should be it!
(Personally I wish they could improve a bit on information policy: a short line on iplayer would have done that there's a new version to come up. could have saved users some embarrassment.
At least there's good reason for them to come up with an update, read it. You'll see they' re not just pulling a stunt)
iplayer stopped? certainly not.

Hey everyone-
I don't believe this question has been posted before, I did do a quick search before posting so don't shoot me, lol. Anyway, I downloaded the APK for the media hub from the JI2 update, and I currently have Eugene373's daily driver rom installed. The previews work and everything, but when I rented a movie, the Blues Brothers, and I try to play it I get an error message saying: "Your device does not support the requested file format." If anyone can help me I'd be much ablidged, thanks.

I RENTED a movie so I believe it works differently. I know if you buy a movie it can few viewed offline so maybe it works differently.
Ok so this is really weird, I opened the video through the stock video player and It showed the time length of the movie but not video or audio
do you have voodoo kernel installed? I read in the voodoo thread that some videos wouldn't play on voodoo kernel wheras they would on stock kernels.
I installed the whole JI2 and the hub player worked fine, bought Iran Man and watched the whole thing. Did take around an hour or two download. Try playing while connected to WI-Fi I kind of remember that you need to do that for the first minute or so. Otherwise Sorry
Where are these files stored? Is there a specific folder?
I'm having the same problem. Maybe its because its not made for the vibrant. I've tried other video players frome the app store and got nothing. They all want to play off the sd card and the movie is only on the media hub app.

Though this is merely an educated guess (as really I have no clue, and no desire to pay for DRM-ware just to check), but it's likely there are at least a few system integrity checks built into the playback capabilities of video downloaded via MediaHub in an attempt to thwart hacks.
Remember, Samsung has a vested self interest in making MediaHub a closed system, and this may include their app doing enough integrity checks to say "no way Jose" when running this app on a non-standard rom. Granted, I have no way of knowing for certain if this is indeed the case, but it wouldn't suprise me if it was.
This is generally how DRM laden systems work.

I'm sure I've read they have to support HTML5, so anybody know which ones do. HTML5 is very new and AFAIK there is no browser for WM with full HTML5 support, there may be some betas with partial support, they would need the geolocation part of HTML5 to be implemented. I'm about to try Iris now
maybe this'll help some of you (PM by Xenton; thanks!):
I couldn't post this as I'm new here and it has links so here ya go:
Right been at this most of the day now, the most promising course of action would be to google gears which adds geolocation functions to browsers. It only works with very specific browsers though, one being Opera Mobile 9.51 (Presto build 2.1.0+) it's available via Opera's FTP site at ftp://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/winmobile/951b2 download "opera_v9.5beta2_gears.cab" and install launch the browser then goto gears.google.com and click install. It will prompt you to reboot your phone. Now relaunch the browser and navigate to touch.facebook.com try to use places, you should get a warning that your location information is being accessed via gears, click okay and you should be good to go.
I got as far as a suggested list of places for my location but nothing on the screen would respond.

It's been a while since I was trying to get this to working and I gave up, so this information may not be up to date but there were no apps that worked with places, the touch.facebook website did but needed a browser with HTML 5 support, I tried many browsers, finally a combination of browser and addon that should of worked but didn't. I think I'm correct in saying android and iPhone have browsers that work nicely wptg the Facebook touch site but WinMo has neither a browse nor an app that works wptg places. I did give up on this a while bin now, and would love for someone to tell me I'm wrong...
......EDIT: It works!!! I installed 4.1 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6392459&postcount=2 (this is the page the download app button on their facebook page links to) and it prompted me to update to the latest version and then, places was working, just like that amazing, I'm well pleased. Also had a play with the latest better, kept freezing and crashing but it looks very promising, an awesome app!
yeah i was using it for places but now when i go to places it locks up
It's still working for me, try uninstalling and they reinstalling, that might fix it, it is a beta still and is not rock solid stability wise yet.
