Can I root My phone Without installing custom rom after that ? - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi i have been wondering for quite some time on wether if i am able to Root my phone using the One click root method (From Unlockr) and do nothing with it. Meaning i do not want to load a custom rom. Would the phone still work (Meaning Rooted"Able to do anything such as Overclocking and etc") ?
Btw have anyone tried overclocking the Hero and tried playing 3d game like Zenonia? Does it still lag with the volume on ?
Any tips to improve 3d gaming on hero ?

Yes you can root without using a custom rom, but usually only on some roms. There is a guide around here somewhere (check wiki) to "root a virgin hero"
You can't overclock the Hero any more than stock as it runs at the max, though someone has hacked a kernal now to make it run faster it is only available in one custom rom. So no, there is no way to improve gaming on hero, though various custom roms play better than others.

What u mean is that there is a rom to make game run faster? BTW Villian rom looks like a good rom but no screenies for me to see the screen i mean launcher(Sense Ui or Nexus launcher). Does the villian rom works perfectly meaning does the phone have all the feature working?
I heard that 2.1 roms are able to play multitouch gaming? does the villian rom support it? Over clocking is a yes for villian rom right ?

There is no ROM designed just for 3d game performance, however some of them do perform better than other in that area. Look at this thread about 3d performance http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656818
VillianROM runs SenseUI and in my opinion very good. Very smooth and quick (it runs a lot quicker than stock 1.5 ROM's. Everything works on the phone with that rom loaded however the GPS can only only get a lock if you turn it on and reboot the phone (this might of been fixed in 5.3 i'm not sure)
Multi-touch should, in theory work on every ROM built from 2.0 onwards however in my experience the Hero Capacitive screen can be a little temperamental with it, however in answer to your question yes VillainROM does support it.
VillainROM isn't built off an overclocked kernel so no you can not over clock it. (the phone needs to be overclocked at kernel level not application) However as stated in the post above there is an overclocked kernel somewhere on here and someone has built a ROM around it if you can find it, check the wiki.
Thanks, Wez

LG Optimus One game performance

I just bought an Optimus One and I'm not satisfied with the game performance.
Fifa 2010 runs fine, but with any tap on the screen it slows down and drops framerate drastically.
Is this some problem with my phone or does everyone experience this? Also, any luck running NFS Shift and such games?
EDIT: Just read about some 'touchscreen lag fix kernal'. Any more info on that?
NFS shift runing perfect for me.
Actually any game I've tried till now (even HD ones, the ones I manage to run...) is working perfectly with no lag nor slow fps.
But you have to mod the O1 a bit (custom recovery, modded kernel, hw acc + jit enabled, CPU overclock).
Does anyone know if the stagefright player has anything to do with game performance too?

Yes you just need z4root to root your phone.
It's always reversible, so no way you could worry about it
to get the best out of your phone, you can use custom kernels and roms +OC
the touchscreenlagfix kernel solves your problem about the cpu usage/framerate drop. Before, 3D/HD games that requires touch/d-pad was almost unplayable because of the sudden drop of framerate+lag.
it was a big BUG back then but now we are lucky that someone was able to fix it and now games like Hawkx, Nova, gtracing(games that requires touch) works Good on my phone.
NFS shift actually works fine even on stock rom w/o any MOd.
there are lots of guides in here discussing about the touchscreen lagfix kernel so you should try it if you want a better gamign experience on Lg optimus one.
I'm still wondering though...
Does anyone know if the stagefright player has anything to do with game performance?

Horrible official dev ( Sony erricson ) support . Officially the device bearly received in mid novembre Android 2.1 .... GPU drivers and optimization are pretty mediocre compared to O1 . It also has a smaller screen . It has only 3" opposed 3.2" that the O1 has .
Also O1 already has an ETA for official gingerbread ( end of may supposedly if something else doesn't occur. But either way it will get ginger 100% sure )
And I want to tell you one more thing . With andy's build 2.3.2 gingerbread ( a mix of aurora and CM7 ) he brought a ton of performance to the device .
Last night I tried Dungeon Defenders , which is a beast of a game ( really resource hungry ) and it finally works out great even without OC . As soon as andy releases the augmented kernel with OC I think , O1 performance will be almost on par with SGS.
LE: Also now I saw but the X8 has a pitiful ammount of RAM . O1 has 512 ( 418 RAM available to use ) and X8 bearly has 168 RAM . And believe me it counts . On internet browsers you're going to have a horrible experience.
i use my friends Sony Ericsson XPeria x8 and my LG O1 play angry birds same stage
my friends using 2.1 official rom and me using 2.2.1 stock rom
*both also using stock microsd
how come my friends oni lag awhile in angry birds ?
friends,
do we hav to overclock to fix the lag..?
or only the mod kernel will do..?
does overclocking heats the phone or any other damage to cpu..?

hello, it is not necessary to overclocking your optimus one but in a purpose of better gaming experience in your optimus one, then i think you should.
there is two things you need to install/flash to your O1 basically to improve your phone performance. custom ROM and a Kernel. i recommend flashing Megatron rom, and mostly people using Void rom. and i recommend Mik_os Kernel. mik_os kernel will solve all your "lag when hold screen" problem in your O1.
No, overclocking will not heats your phone, yes maybe it does, but just a little bit and will not harm your phone. and no it will not damage our phone CPU.
i currently using megatron rom with mik_os kernel, and its all working very well. gaming experience in my O1 are fantastic. with megatron rom, your phone CPU will automatically set to 728mhz (not sure, check this in the megatron thread).
heres the link for megatron rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870640
mik_os kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929941
before you will be able to flash this, you need to succesfully install this first http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=844483
its a custom recovery where you later can flash the megatron rom and mik os kernel. before you do flashing, i recommend to backup your sd card and things. goodluck

If you overclock and use the mod kernel, you will get the best out of the gaming experience. Don't worry about OC issue, as 700-720mhz most of the members are using this and no issues have been reported as of now. Also, the OC depends on the hardware modification and each phone has its own maximum OC limit.
If you feel OC is overheating your phone, revert it. Isn't that simple ?
Well, it's a budget phone (and a damn good one at that), so of course it's not going to run everything perfectly. If you're going to use custom rom's and overclock, please read about the subject well beforehand, ok? It can go terribly wrong, and it does sometimes cause problems.
And the claim about no problems is very false. Both overclocking, and installing a custom rom can cause random reboots, application force closes and hangs among with other problems. So please read into it, and be prepared to revert in case something goes wrong. Overclocking will also most certainly reduce the life cycle of your phone.

True, but who's gonna keep this phone for mare than 2-3 years? Also, most of the time the CPU is idle @245 MHz...
I overclocked mine to 768MHZ its stable. I have a p500h (same thing as the p500 I think)

Best Rom/Kernel

I'm about to get a X10 from a friend of mine, and was curious about what the best rom/kernel for the phone is.
So far it looks like cyanogen mod 7.0 is going to be the best thing I could flash it with, but it kinda bugs me that the camera doesn't work 100%.
I'm also hearing that 2.3 will be officially released soon, but knowing how my carriers usually operate with updates that will be 3 months till I see that.
Whats the closest thing to a vanilla android experience with full functionality?
or what Rom/Kernel are you using and why?
Wolfbreaks 009 isnt quite vanilla but is my favorite thus far. Has some new ported gingerbread features from achotjan and it's speed is unreal. I use it with the 3.62 kernel by goro, doomlords, and zkernel are all amazing. Just amazing all around, and if not that use erickwill's 2.1 ROM. When gingerbread comes out the camera drivers will be ported to gingerbread ROMs so you shouldnt worry about not getting a working 2.3 ROM
good to know.
If you're looking for some extra speed, take a look at Power To The People kernel. Overclocked to 1.2GHz, but might cause some instability, and fry the device if used for a long time.
I wouldn't want to overclock.
I don't see the point in doing it on smartphones, especially when the battery life is already low.
Right now im leaning towards cyanogen or ultima 4. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095637
just finished rooting it, now im running titanium backup.
Then for kernel you might want to check out zKernel-failsafe, no overclock, no underclock. Stable and fast. The stock kernel is slow.
Just testeds both Wolf's and Ultima 5... got some tiny issues with 3G band on Ultima and I wasnt able to open the NFS Drift Game in both of them...
Tryed CM7 + custom Kernel with a good response, all of this using BB 67. The only trouble I got with CM7 was the slow response from GPS...
I might go back to Stock Eclair + custom Kernel till the update comes out...

I was looking at the CM7 Rom but was afraid that everything would be slow/laggy on the xperia.

I'm so tired...

I'm so tired...Since some months I'm looking for a rom with a good battery life and smooth, even in little games like fruit ninja or angry birds...But I havent' found nothing.
I had found some roms like perfectpeso, oxygen, dynamite rom, cyanogenmod, but due to something, I have always uninstalled them and flashed another rom and so on. Now I'm really tired of this, I want a rom which can satisfies me. So far I've tried:
-Perfectpeso: bad battery and some lags
-Oxygen: camera and microphone suck
-Dynamite: the last I've tried, it's a rom still young, so still buggy
-Cyanogenmod: too slow, I cannot even play fruit ninja smoothly
So what do I have to do? What do I have to flash to have good results?

Thanks to both you! Now I try to use stock rom (modded a bit) and when bytecode's rom will be bugless, I will try one of them
Thanks for the suggestion
I found Cyaongenmod with a custom Vsync of kernel to be the best Rom, as the battery lasts as long as Froyo used to run (LG gingerbread is what convinced me to Root, with its HORRIBLE battery life compared to froyo).
Cyanogenmod I find is preety battery efficient and smooth with the DJNoXD kernel (Vsync off), and I changed max_events in Build.prop to 160 and its very smooth scrolling now, and I find this tweak only works with Vsync of, as max_events is max frame rates for UI, and will always be limited to 60 frames with vsync on, as kernel > build.prop

Belive me, stock rom is the best option. But not with default kernel. I have tried every rom for months and i realize that stock is the way to go. Maybe i will change to ics when all bugs wil be fixed if there will be a stable ics rom in the feature.
it´s sad...
but stock rom ist the best but it´s really NOT good...
all roms i tried have bugs... if you want a good phone with no (or almost no) bugs buy a google nexus or an iphone or a windows-phone

Man, have some faith. If you're not deving you can't complain about having a buggy phone guys.
Plus, if you looked through this here section, you'll find plenty of mods to make your phone faster.
Google TurboBoostv8.5 if you want a real speed increase for any 2.3.x rom. Also, overclock to a stable 480/729 or 480/748. Which I can almost gauruntee none of you are doing. You modded your phone, so look at tutorials, figure things out yourselves, it's a fun process Push your phone as far as it'll go.

[Q] Advantages of using different ROM and kernel + 2 more questions

I'm new to rooting and changing phone's ROM and kernel (rooted my X10 just 2 months ago), so I wanted to ask about main advantages of using different ROM and kernel... right now, I'm using stock 2.3.3 ROM with FPS Uncap and a few more tweaks. I also tried another ROM (from ThJap) with his kernel provided along with his ROM, but I didn't see much difference in phone's performance between stock and modded (it's ironical, that I feel, stock was faster (even when modded ROM have OCed CPU), when I had around 25 apps installed. Modded ROM had imho more stuttering when flipping screens and app drawer).
So the question is:
1. What can be achieved by modding just ROM itself and what by modding kernel?
2. Also there were some things I liked about that ROM, but those I didn't like too, so who can I ask about modding some parts of stock ROM for me?
3. Maybe off-topic, but why after flashing FPS Uncap, FPS was better just in launcher and games, but in menus (e.g. settings screen), gallery, SMS, etc. the phone was so laggy and unresponsive? It's like this even after reinstalling phone completely, when no apps are installed. I was expecting better FPS and responsiveness in all of this (especially gallery, which is unusable right now). Can I do anything about it? Even my friend's Xperia Active, which has the same CPU, is much faster and smoother. I know, it has smaller screen resolution, but the situation is the same with all phones using Snapdragon CPU I've seen so far. Only my X10 is laggy and slow (with stock or modded ROM; it doesn't matter) compared to them.

There are lot of stock based roms better than stock whch already have FPS uncap and all tweaks done.
As you said for me also stock based custom roms became slower and slower as days passed and apps installed.
But I stumbled upon old rom but really solid one.
cm7zmod by zdzihu runs on doomkernel.
Its really fast and hasnt really lagged/sowed down in one and half months of my usage.
No big bugs except tethering not working.
give it a try, you wont regret it.

also modding rom by yourself will be hard at first if you dont have much knowledge about it.
Kernel modding requires more knowledge( I can give u link to guides for doing that if you want). Its not my expertise.

[Q] Gaming rom

Hi guys, I'm searching for a rom which works great with games, any ideas?
No one is going to answer you because of the rules. I'm trying to find it to for the last six months. In my opinion is best if you have some knowledge if you don't you will have to read for a while, to use you latest stock rom. But you will have to deodex it, zipallighn it, apply the modes you like from other rom if there are some and remove the bloatwear not all just the one that is safe to remove and you don't need. And perhaps replace touchwiz with nova launcher. It's just that here are very sensitive on questions about best rom. For the past six months I've downloaded a lot of roms and after a while having problems with all of them- here I mean problems with playing games. And till now the best experience I had was with stock rom but then I was missing some futures, mods from others. So only solution as I don't wanna search for another 6 monts is make my own. By the way the qiestion is not which is the best rom but which is the best for games or in other words on which rom I'll have no or less problems but stil for here is like you ask which is the best.
So make your own rom deodex and zipallighn for speed, remove the app you don't need because most of the bloatwear has running processes all the time so you can have more free ram and then if you want some extra mods.
I hope this is helpful although it mean you have a lot to read if you are new at that.
As previously stated, stock roms are the best all rounders and in my opinion much better than custom roms hands down.
As soon as you root a samsung you can expect performance issues. Had the same problem on all 3 samsung devices I've owned. This led me to not touch my htc m9 at all as far as mods go..
I wish I stole my HTC M9.

I can't live without root, I'm using a lot of tweaks and rooted apps. Stock roms were always laggy and slow for me, maybe I just can't use them properly.
Stock ROMs are laggy on legacy devices.
New devices works perfectly good on Stock ROMs. This is why they have lesser Custom ROMs and older devices still has some ongoing developments.
I've never had any performance issue after rooting my Sonys and Samsungs. I always had better performance and recommend custom ROMs because they work better for me. Please bear in mind that my latest device is the S3 which has 1GB RAM while other new phones are going 4GB so my opinion only stops here : On old devices. On new devices , I've played with my friends Note 3 alot and we reached a conclusion that it works flawless even on Stock ROM.
For a gaming ROM , I would suggest ArchiDroid if you are going CM. Latest Archidroid Lollipop works flawlessly for me (Even while using Chrome with 11 Tabs. No lags and reloads while switching tabs). Runs NFS:Most Wanted , Cyrus and alot other major games that I've tested run on full FPS without a single lag. However , Hearthstone will never work good on S3 even on this magnificent ROM. Go for Archidroid for both KitKat and Lollipop if you want Performance. Go for Temasek (Darkened's build) if you want balanced Performance , customization and slightly better Battery life. Other ROMs work too , they may have more customization (Blisspop) etc but I did not list them because they are too heavy for a Gaming ROM In my opinion. AOKP KitKat is also a fair choice to go for.
For Touchwiz Based ROMs, I would say LukeROM. Install without Bloat and enjoy a smooth ROM even on stock kernel and no Greenify. NFS:Most Wanted , Cytus and other major games that I've tested also runs on full FPS without lag. It also has stock Camera and Note 4 Multiwindow that allow floating app like Messenger Chat Head. However , Chrome makes this ROM die on stock kernel. 4 or 5 tabs and it starts reloading when switching tabs. NeatROM Lite is also a good choice if you're fine with Android 4.3 and a Bluetooth Bug where NFC gets turn on too when you connect to a Bluetooth device. (Might be device specific bug since I don't see a lot of comments about that bug). Blekota's S5 Lite ROM with Boeffla kernel and Speed Mod also works flawless. Check my post on that thread for tutorial.(Posted few months back)
These are my personal experience with various ROMs for I9300. I've flashed almost every ROM that came to XDA and a few other Chinese forums since January 2014 and these are my conclusions. Please bear in mind that the same ROM might perform differently for different users with different usage and settings. Have a nice day
@conanDO98 Thanks for an answer, you just put everything in a whole new light to me. I'm on Luke's rom for like an hour now, it works great. But i do have a question, you said "no greenify", may I ask why? I always thought it's good for performance.

@nolitooo When I was on cm12 I was using an ArchiKernel, it worked great. There's always boeffla kernel, with boeffla config app, try them both and pick your best

I'm sorry. By no greenify I mean I did not install Greenify on that ROM.
I suggest flashing Boeffla 7.9 on Luke ROM because after flashing I find the ROM smoother and Chrome works better
@conanDO98 I'm gonna flash it now and see how it works
I've tried archdroid it's not that it wasn't good just searching for better. I play a lot call of duty heroes which is laggy with all the roms i've tried so far but with most of them after a few days the game starts to crash, to close by itself but I don't need a rom that I need to restart every few hours or every day.
I'll try Luke Rom in a few days and will see if it's better. I guess that part of the problem is that most of the time I have installed around 80 apps by me. Some games, for alarm, calculator, apps like facebook, line, soundhound, xposed with some mods and others.
About the kernel I like boeffla with his options but for some reason I have less apps closing by itself with stock.

I think stock roms are better for gaming, I play a lot of games, I was using cm12.1 and archidroid for few months and gaming was nice, but not what I was looking for. Now I'm on Luke ROM with boeffla 7.9 and gaming is so much better then on lollipop. I haven't played CoD Heroes though.
I did try the Luke rom but after a few days had some problems with some games, back on stock and all perfect. Now just have to download some tools and have free time and will deodex and zipaligh it. And some other mods if I find some good.
