My telco doesn't want to give the APN and ... - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to flash the phone. The company is Centennial in Puerto Rico the only thing i know is that is a gsm phone. If I do the RUU with the files arround doing the goldcard process, the APN setting will be gone?

see my original answer and stop being lazy...

You can check the apn settings now dude just write them down and flash!
Settings > Wireless Controls > Mobile Nework Settings > "Acces Point Names"
Just click the one with the green checkmark, write down all the settings and enter them the same way after flashing.
P.S. I don't know if this is the right section to post this dude

go into the mobile tab thing and click edit
change country code to your one (you cant put + in this bit)
also do your area code.
click dialing patterns

+EFG exactly how i typed it
then try if nothing still press contacts button
then tools>options...
change the area and region code things in there.
if nothing still working
start> settings>system tab
then click on regional settings and slect the right country and all.
if nothing still then god knows lol

OK couldnt find an answer to this...

being given a hermes but it is AT&T branded.... it will obviously come without sim and I need to unlock it so can be used on TMO..... will I still be able to do this by connecting it by usb and using the v3a unlocker? Also if there is anything else I should no that I may have missed roaming the threads please let me know.... I currently have an excalibur so am pretty familiar with modifying things.
all gsm phones comes with a sim of sorts
he's being given the phone, so the person giving it to him is probably keeping the simcard?
you should be able to unless the unlocker states otherwise..
the phone is fully functional (bar the phone/texting) without a simcard as its a PDA / Phone

Ok just making sure... also I could not find USA tmobile settings for once it is unlocked to get everyhting working right. I know there is special settings for the excalibur to get MMS and sms working properly so I would assume that hermes would be the same.
I found the keyboard fixes as mine is an 8525(cingular) but I want everything to work right.... If I missed it just link where I need to go for US tmo setup.
I dont mind doing the reading... THANKS!!!
PS..... Obviously I will be changing ROMS too
Is it the same as excal....?
Here are the steps and settings:
Step 1. Setup GPRS connection for T-Mobile network:
Start > Settings > Connections (tab) > Connections > Advanced (tab) > Select Networks > New...
Enter the name for the profile (e.g. T-Mobile), then go to "Modem" tab and click "New...", enter name for the connection (e.g. T-Mobile Data), choose "Cellular line (GPRS, 3G)" in the drop-down menu, click "Next", the access point should be "wap.voicestream.com", click "Next", leave all fields blank on this page, click "Finish". Now go to "Proxy Settings" tab and select "This network connects to the Internet".
Click "Ok" all the way out.
Step 2. Setup MMS:
Start > Programs > Messaging > Menu > Tools > Options... > MMS > Servers (tab) > New
Server name: (you name it)
Gateway: 216.155.165.50
Port Number: 8080
Server address: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
Connect via: (the connection you created in step 1)
Sending size limitation: 300K
WAP Version: WAP 2.0
Click "Ok", set this new entry as default (with a red arrow on the icon).
check out HTC Network Wizard (comes precooked into most roms now..) if not then schaps operator setup
does the leg work for you
Similiar to the excal 6.1 roms then.... I am reading all the new roms now so trying to decide where to go first LOL.... seems all have good and bad... I'll keep wading through them
