unable to get wap working with fido prepaid account

Hey everyone.....
I'm a newbie so please be gentle....
I've had my phone for about 2weeks now. Last week I got it unlocked but now I'm having problems with the wap connection from fido.
Here is what I have.
t-mobile xda with fido sim
running xda-developers special edition rom v1.2
rom ver: 3.17.03 eng
rom date: 05/15/03
radio ver: 6.24.00
Protocol: 324e4
I talked to fido and they told me that because I am on prepaid they don't offer GPRS but I can connect to wap ??? I am still learning about the two, but I don't think you need to have both, but I could be wrong. anyway I talked to them and they enabled mms and wap on my account about 3 days ago so I should be able to access it by now.
here is the information they gave me.
APN: wap.fido.ca or internet.fido.ca
IP: 205.151.011.011
user: fido
pwd: fido
port: 9201
#: *99#
so I've tried multiple combinations of the above but nothing seems to work, can anyone tell me if they have had any luck getting connected with fido prepaid and how you did it.
Here is what I tried.
settings --> connection --> connections
new...
under general --> change name to wap settings
under modem --> new...
rename to wap
select a modem --> tried both celluar line
--> clicked advanced left port settings
--> TCP/IP settings
--> select use specific IP address
--> entered 205.151.011.011
--> also tried use server assigned IP address
--> Name servers
--> select use specific IP address
--> entered 205.151.011.011
--> also tried use server assigned IP address
clicked OK to accept advanced settings
clicked NEXT
--> left country code blank
--> left area code blank
--> entered *99# for phone number
--> also tried wap.fido.ca for phone number
clicked FINISHED
clicked PROXY SETTINGS
--> selected this network connects to the internet
--> selected this network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet
--> entered 205.151.011.011
--> also tried it with wap.fido.ca
--> tried setting wap ip and port with above information
when I try to connect it says dialing and then always comes back with there is no answer at the number you have dialed.....etc....

Need Help With The Internet!

When I Open Internet Explorer it connects but it says My Vision Name or password might be incorrect... Please if Anyone had this problem tell me how to fix it
Try to run IOTA
Run Phone - Menu - Options - Services - Internet - Get Settings - Start
See if that helps (worked for me on an older rom)
If that doesnt work -
Start - Settings - Connetions - Connections - Add a new modem connection
Then Click Next - #777 in "Number to dial" - Finish
Click Manage existing connections and select the connection you just created and then try to connect to the net. It will ask you for username and password...leave it blank and click save password and connect
post back if it works
I am also having this problem and I tried to do what you said but it still doesnt work. I get the error message:
Cannot Connect - The current connection cannot be used for your request. Please end the current connection and try again.
rbadh91 Thanksss!
Dude Thank [email protected]!!!!!!!!!!

OK couldnt find an answer to this...

being given a hermes but it is AT&T branded.... it will obviously come without sim and I need to unlock it so can be used on TMO..... will I still be able to do this by connecting it by usb and using the v3a unlocker? Also if there is anything else I should no that I may have missed roaming the threads please let me know.... I currently have an excalibur so am pretty familiar with modifying things.
all gsm phones comes with a sim of sorts
he's being given the phone, so the person giving it to him is probably keeping the simcard?
you should be able to unless the unlocker states otherwise..
the phone is fully functional (bar the phone/texting) without a simcard as its a PDA / Phone

Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Ok just making sure... also I could not find USA tmobile settings for once it is unlocked to get everyhting working right. I know there is special settings for the excalibur to get MMS and sms working properly so I would assume that hermes would be the same.
I found the keyboard fixes as mine is an 8525(cingular) but I want everything to work right.... If I missed it just link where I need to go for US tmo setup.
I dont mind doing the reading... THANKS!!!
PS..... Obviously I will be changing ROMS too
Is it the same as excal....?
Here are the steps and settings:
Step 1. Setup GPRS connection for T-Mobile network:
Start > Settings > Connections (tab) > Connections > Advanced (tab) > Select Networks > New...
Enter the name for the profile (e.g. T-Mobile), then go to "Modem" tab and click "New...", enter name for the connection (e.g. T-Mobile Data), choose "Cellular line (GPRS, 3G)" in the drop-down menu, click "Next", the access point should be "wap.voicestream.com", click "Next", leave all fields blank on this page, click "Finish". Now go to "Proxy Settings" tab and select "This network connects to the Internet".
Click "Ok" all the way out.
Step 2. Setup MMS:
Start > Programs > Messaging > Menu > Tools > Options... > MMS > Servers (tab) > New
Server name: (you name it)
Gateway: 216.155.165.50
Port Number: 8080
Server address: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
Connect via: (the connection you created in step 1)
Sending size limitation: 300K
WAP Version: WAP 2.0
Click "Ok", set this new entry as default (with a red arrow on the icon).
check out HTC Network Wizard (comes precooked into most roms now..) if not then schaps operator setup
does the leg work for you
Similiar to the excal 6.1 roms then.... I am reading all the new roms now so trying to decide where to go first LOL.... seems all have good and bad... I'll keep wading through them

How exactly can i do this?

I used to be with AT&T with my 8525 and then switch to Sprint which of course doesnt work with Sprint. So i ended up getting a Samsung Rant and dont exactly like the web browser so i was wondering exactly how i would go about sharing my data connection with the 8525 via blutetooth. I tried it once and this is what i did:
1. I went to settings and clicked on connection settings under the connections tab.
2. clicked on Add a new modem connection under "My ISP"
3. When i do that it asks to enter a name for the connection and to select a modem, so i select bluetooth as modem and click next.
4. Then it asks for the device the connection is on and i select my rant and hit next
5. then it asks exactly this and has a text box under it: "Enter the number exactly as it should be dialed. include extra numbers, such as an ouside line or credit card" didnt exactly know what to put here so i just put a few randon numbers in to see what next step would be
6. then it asks for user name password and domain....dont know what to put here so i just clicked finish
7. when i try to connect to it. it says connecting and a message on my rant says entering into bluetooth data mode, and the 8525 tries to connect for a minute and says connection failed and goes back to today screen.
So if anybody could tell me in detail what info it is that i need it would be great. and also under select modem drop-down box there is a selection called "cellular line(GPRS, 3G)" is it possible i could just put the info for the data plan in there and it connect to the sprint data plan if that is possible..if it is can you tell me in detail the information u need and how to do it......THANKS
