Strange 3G Issue - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I woke up this morning and noticed that my 3G was off - so I go into menu to turn it back on and it says "Turning on..." so I sit there and watch it for like 5 minutes.. still turning on... so I decided to leave it alone for a few hours.. still "turning on..."
By the way, at this point in time I was running the rooted leak #3 that jcase posted. So here are the steps I've taken to get this issue resolved, all to no avail:
1) reboot - when it booted back up, still said "turning on..."
2) factory data/dalvik clear - same. after setup, still "turning on..."
3) restore to previous NAND backup from a few days ago - still "turning on..."
4) factory data/dalvik wipe and flash new ROM (Ivan's 1.0 OC ROM) - same thing.. after setup, still "turning on..."
5) *228 program - phone rebooted with the 3G symbol showing, but no data connection could be found by any apps, including the browser. shortly after that, the 3G icon disappeared and we're back to "turning on..."
6) update PRL - same as above
7) flash Alltel/VZW Hybrid PRL - same as above
8) Turn on Airplane Mode - 3G went from "turning off..." to "off", but as soon as I took out of of Airplane mode, it went back to "turning off"
9) Battery pull - same thing.. rebooted, still "turning off..."
So now, I'm sitting here with Ivan's new 1.0 ROM but no data
Every now and then, the 3G icon will show up and in the settings, it tells me that mobile network is on, but the icon never shows that it's receiving data, only sending. Then the icon goes away and it's back to "turning on..."
Has anyone else experienced this?? Could it be a hardware issue??
By the way, my radio is 2.41.04.02.02
Any insight would be awesome!!

Odd, my data is doing the same thing...im running the latest 2.1 leak and i went back to a rooted 1.5...same issue

damn well I sure hope somebody knows what's going on because I am fresh out of ideas :/ I'm like 99.9% sure I've already done everything possible to try to fix it, other than flashing a different radio, but I was running 2.41 before.
UPDATE: My 3G just came on, send AND receive Right now, I have flashed back to my previous NAND of leak #3. I am going to flash Ivan 1.0 and see what happens.
UPDATE 2: flashed Ivan 1.0 - 3G fired right up, working and all!! So basically, I have absolutely no idea why this happened. Hopefully it'll stay on!!

XPERIA X10 Wi-Fi Problem!

I have a very apparent problem on my phone similar to the Iphone 4 problem but only with Wi-Fi. It's very minor compared to Iphone 4's recent problem (which was fix not too long ago..). While holding the phone in landscape mode and having your left (or right) hand on top the phone reduces the frequency of Wi-Fi and utterly disconnects. I have this problem in my room because my router is 3 floors down, it isn't the greatest reception but it works. So in summary when Wi-Fi is 1-2 bars, holding you hand atop the phone disconnects or lowers your Wi-Fi reception. This is a piss off... Either someone can fix this, or we need to complain to Sony ****ersson about this problem.
or move your router one floor up...
No, thats not something im going to do, the iPhone got a fix, why cant we?
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
@zephyrix i agree with you or better buy wifi antenna booster..... solve the problem...
That's not a problem, its simply because you are far away from the router, when it happens to you when you are at closed range, come and talk about it.
and cleary you don't know the real issue the iphone had...

+1 mezo9090.. it's a mobile phone.. the receiver won't be as strong as a PC Wifi receiver.. you could get an booster, or a better router..

I Think I have a WiFi problem as mine fails to turn on constantly. It will only start after I freshly boot it, then it turns off after about 15 minutes and is unable to start again until I power off, and back on.
If I go to the settings menu, wireless controls and tap to turn on WiFi it shows "Turning on..." for roughly 15-20 seconds then says "Unable to start WiFi"
This happened before and after I rooted with R2BA023 Firmware.
Anyone else encounter anything similar?

Hi Reeonimus - I just finished rooting my x10a from Rogers and I can't connect to my wifi at work, it was working before, so now I have to figure this one out.
I will see if I have the same problem at home tonight, will keep you posted
If you were having problems before, maybe your wifi in the phone is the problem
did you connect to wifi when you first received it? before doing anything to it
There is wifi patch for people who rooted the phone. Go back to the same rooting thread and look at the 4th post.

well I tried it last night and it connected perfectly at home.
I'm going to have to figure this one out
home is using WEP-Personal and so is my office.
but at the office it gives me a "Obtaining address" but just stops there.
I have full signal strength, but unsuccessful
It was connecting before the root
Patch file : I just installed it and it didn't fix anything, if anything it actually made it worse I think
What does that WiFi patch do?
And has anyone gotten WPA2 enterprise, or PEAP working? I'll need that for uni...
I came across this: http://pboos.ch/wordpress/2009/04/android-using-wpa2-enterprise/

I barely used the phone before I rooted so I don't know if the problem was there before. The bluetooth also had problems turning on.
However I reset the phone to factory settings and returned it for a new one. Then I realized that resetting it only reset the apps and everything, it was still on the R2BA023 firmware. They took it back and gave me a new one because they didn't notice though.
Rooted the new one and have had no problems since.

Hi guys, I'm an AT&T user on 1.6. I am looking for the wi-fi patch, as my wi-fi drops off with my cellular reception. Will this patch fix this problem? If you can point me to the rght direction, I would appreciate it. Trying to search but it appears search is down for the moment. Thanks
Screw it. I'm ready to jump to 2.1, since AT&T doesn't look like they are going to be rolling this out. Does 2.1 still have this wi-fi issue?
coughee, they have a stock 2.1 out now, just use the search to root it. have you checked for seus updates?? lately?

SOLVED [Q] 3G/Mobile Data Not Working

So after rebooting about a week ago on BAMF Remix 1.7 (I think the ROM is irrelevant but just putting it in for information's sake), my 3g/mobile data stopped working. When I go into network settings, the Mobile network option is checked to connect to the internet and under APNs, there is a vzwinternet profile with a green (I'm guessing turned on?) marker.
I've tried various ROMS: BAMF, BAMF Remix, CM7, and even the Gingerbread variations of BAMF as well.
Also I've experimented with all of the radios (every one listed under the obligatory radio thread) and different kernels.
And lastly, I've wiped multiple times every time I've flashed a new ROM and have even formatted my SD card hoping it was some rogue application that disabled it.
So what can I do to bring back 3g/mobile data?
Note: Wifi, calls, and sms will works for me. MMS does not however.
I have the same problem but mine shows after rebooting, than say error when I try browser or anything that has to do with data, But works at times.
*WALK in the WORD*
Mine isn't working at all. Not even after rebooting.

I almost did exactly the same!

This happened to me, exactly as you've stated. I posted here but got no remedy. I tried all the things you've mentioned, reflashing the ROM, raeflashing the radio, etc. Nothing helped.
Finally, I had the idea to restore a recent backup from before I had the problem. THAT worked. I hope it helps you too.
I didn't have a chance to call during the day but I did head over to my friend's house who lives in a different area. She has VZW just as me and she was getting 3G on her blackberry but 3G/mobile data was still unavailable for me.
It's not a coverage issue but on my end.
While lurking around the mobile data settings, there was a profile for VZW under APN settings. Could someone post theirs so I could see if they match with mine? Maybe that's the solution to my problem?
I don't think it's rom dependent. I lost 4g the other day and I have yet to get it back. I have my own theories but the jerk at the VZW store wouldn't let me try my theory. I'm waiting for my usual rep to comeback, she lets me try just about anything I want. The rest are just dicks. I have tried swapping roms, radios, and all but going back stock to fix it. And nothing has brought it back. BTW, have you tried CDMA prl to see if you can get data at all? I can get 3g that way, but when I go into evdo/lte or lte only I lost all data. Also, do you have it in rev A mode under your modem settings?
I had this exact same problem with BAMF remix 1.6.3, to make this story short this is how it eventually got fixed:
Go into settings and do a check for new software.
This will force 3g to cut on. (Note: it may take a few times for the 3g to come on and STAY ON. It took me almost a day doing it about every hour.
Enjoy
Holy crap, that worked. Of all the things I tried and I couldn't get anything. Now LTE is back. You're awesome.

I have to go to work right now but yes it is turning on 3G at the moment but it's only using the up arrow (eg. uploading data but not downloading data). I"m guessing with a couple of more tries it'll eventually lock in.
If this doesn't work on gingerbread, I'll try reverting back to froyo and try it then as well.

Glad I could help.. I spent nearly two hours on the phone with Tier II support and they guy said.. well this is a long shot but try this. Didnt work the first time I tried it so he sent me a new phone but in the time it took to get the new phone, I kept trying and it finally locked in.
Ok, well I thought it worked. Every time I try it, it will give me the 4gLTE indicator, but if I open up anything that uses data it just says no mobile conectivity then after about 5-6 min it stops showing any data. Also, I can still go back to CDMA(PRL) and get 3g. It's just under 4GLTE/evdo and lte only.
BTW, for any other future reference, I started experiencing these issues right after I debloated (uninstalled) the blockbuster app.

It's alright, I have a replacement coming tuesday. I just have to return to stock before then.
When you guys went to the software update option, during that duration when it was enabled were both 3G arrows animated? I'm only getting an up arrow (uploading).
I've been trying now for hours on the PRL setting and also cdma+lte/evdo auto
Well, I haven't been able to get this to work. Is there anything else I should try besides the software update trick before returning my phone to stock and returning it to VZ?
i had the same problem as you OP, but after pressing check new enough times and jumping straight into the browser, i got it to stick. took at least 12 tries, however and i'll see if it lasts.
love the franklin avatar btw!
also, is anyone using juice defender? idk if its coincidence or not, but i d/l the program last night and this is the first data connectivity problem i've had with the tbolt.
Yes, I had both arrows. But, for some reason when I would open the browser to google it wouldn't work. I tried about 4 times, each time it would show data, but I wouldn't have a connection. Also, it would show data being up and down stream, but I couldn't manage to get it to work when I tried it.

[Q] Task650 (4-14) - No Carrier Signal For Several Minutes After Boot

Been having a problem with Task's latest ROM (4-14) and the previous version (4-1). Both take several minutes to obtain carrier signal (AT&T) after booting. I've tried flashing with full wipe several times, different modems, and adjusting APN settings, but nothing fixed it. My phone usually picks up service after about 5 minutes, but sometimes I've waited 10+ minutes and had to reboot again, because it still hadn't connected. Also, maybe this is just how it's supposed to work, but I've noticed that while my phone has no service, if I go to System Settings->More->Mobile networks->Access Point Names there's nothing there at all. Just a blank window until it finally connects. Is anyone else having this problem or know of any possible solutions? Thanks!

Mine does exactly the same. Baseband is unknown and there's no IMEI info until it finally connects. I also noticed that under service state it said "radio off" until it connects and then changes to "in service".
That's very odd. It's not just this rom it does this on is it?

Yeah dude, I've been using Task's ROM for a while now and this has only started happening since the 4-1 version. I even flashed back to the 3-13 build just to make sure and this problem doesn't happen with that build. I was hoping the 4-14 build would fix it, but it didn't. I did see on Task's developer thread someone made a post about having this issue, but it looks like they never posted a logcat or anything to help Task resolve it. I would gladly post one if I could, but I'm new to XDA and they won't let me post on a developer thread.

I no longer have any issues with the time zone changing in the newest build (4-14). I don't know if you're on that build, but the workaround for that problem was to set your own time zone manually.

Apparently, what's happening is the radio doesn't turn on during boot (Radio baseband not recognized error or something). I fixed this problem by turning on the wifi temporarily then turning it off. Apparently this will turn on the radio and should stay that way. I hope this works for you.

That worked dude, thanks! It took me a couple tries, I probably didn't give my phone enough time to boot, but I got it. Definitely a lot faster than waiting for it to connect on it's own.
I wonder why this only seems to affect some of our phones, but not the majority? If I didn't know any better, I'd say it almost seems like they have slightly different hardware. I bought mine directly from AT&T the first week it was released. Don't know if they possibly made any hardware revisions since?

I have been having this problem as well.
Yesterday I did another wipe and reinstall. I did a full wipe (and in mounts formatted everything except my external SD which was temporarily removed.) after flashing the rom, I rebooted recovery and did another wipe data/factory reset and wiped dalvik, then I installed gapps. I then formatted the cache and data again and rebooted the phone. It seems to have fixed the issue for me.

[Q] Verizon Samsung Fascinate NO 3G Icon keeps disappearing

I am hoping someone can help me with this problem I have read a lot of threads but none of them have any real solution.

has your phone been activated and used to make any calls?
when you say "restore back to stock roms" you're talking about version 2.3.5 with EH03 radio correct?
which custom ROM were/are you trying to run?
.
Thanks for the quick reply.
Yes my phone have been activated and was working fine till last week. I can still make calls anytime with no problems.
Yes I have restore back to and tried EH03, ED05 and EC09 and none of them fixes the 3G problem.
I was using geewiz-2.9.2 rom for the past year and had no problems but all of the sudden this happened

well at this point I don't know what else to say geewiz or stock should not have the issues you describe, could just be Verizon issue with signal in your area,,, I have seen mine struggle at different times of the year for no apparent reason at all...
EH03 should give the best reception but I remember running the others at different times too but not in the last year+
check this site and see if they report issues in your area

well at this point I don't know what else to say geewiz or stock should not have the issues you describe, could just be Verizon issue with signal in your area,,, I have seen mine struggle at different times of the year for no apparent reason at all...
EH03 should give the best reception but I remember running the others at different times too but not in the last year+
check this site and see if they report issues in your area

maybe the antenna connection has wiggled loose or has some corrosion,
these are not that hard to pop apart to inspect it out...

Permanent Data Indicator
Anyone else getting a permanent 4g or 4gLTE indicator even when data is turned off and wifi is turned on?
It was not like this with 4.4.3. When wifi was turned on, the data indicator would go away. Also when wifi was off and when I turn off data, the symbol would go away.
Now it is just always there no matter what.
Yes, I have this condition as well
do I need to go to 4.4.3 before I can get 5.0?

My cell radio is also using up more battery than ever according to the built in power monitor
If you can find any way to get the icon removed, please post it in here, I'll do the same if I find some way.

Yeah, same here...
I am having an issue when installing- it gets about 1/4 the way then stops and goes to the recovery screen (phone with red triangle and exclamation point). Any thought or ideas? I am not rooted
I have seen a few people that have bricked their phones with the update...
Went to re-dload the update and noticed that HTC may have pulled the update- 'no update available for your phone' and i am still running 4.4.3... we will see

I've been stuck at this for a couple of days now without any resolution. I'm considering factory resetting my phone, but I don't think it's worth all that hassle just for this update.
Wifi Calling in Settings Moved!
Discovered after updating to Lollipop on my M7 that the location for Wifi Calling in the settings menu changed. It is no longer under "Wireless & Networks/More". You can now find it under "Phone/Call". Called T-Mobile about it originally, and no one knew about it.
what if lolli sucks?
in theory, if this update sucks, I should still be able to step back to 4.4.3/6.0 just by flashing the 6.10.531 stock recovery, or would I face more than that or not be able to at all?
failed OTA from stock recovery
from stock recovery - recovery_6.10.531.9.img
ideas?
I assume it wants to see recovery recovery_6.10.531.10.img.
Does anyone have this?
found it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2545227&page=37
all good. update took a good 30 mins in total. But definitely moves faster. Other changes aren't so obvious to me.
