Flash to Another ROM than Kimera after flashing Radio? - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I've installed Kimera 1.7 and was wondering about testing some other ROM's (again). I've flashed the radio with 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26, as suggested by the Kimera developer, but is it now safe trying to switch to another ROM?
Thanks in advance!

Yes it is. That radio is the latest and recommended radio for the GSM Hero no matter what ROM you run.

it is recommended for every ROM so its really safe, but u know do a nandroid backup before u trying out new roms and stuffs

I always do a nandroid backup before flashing thanks alot guys!
Edit: by the way, do I need to flash the radio once again after new ROM?

No, the radio will stay between flashes. The only exception is if you run an official RUU exe, but that's not recommended since it'll un-root the bootloader.

Good to hear Thanks!

[Q] Vibrantfroyo_R3 downgrade

Hello,
I flashed Vibrantfroyo_R3.zip, should I go to stock ROM if yes, which firmware, or can I just flash directly Vibrant9.zip?

Should be able too. I've flashed from Froyo to Bionix, masters rom, etc. I think Vibrant9 is the same. FYI, Eugune just posted in his Froyo build that he fixed most of the issues.
Just make sure whatever you flash has a 2.1 kernel bundled with it. Otherwise you'll brick your phone.

Flash Comm. Rom v1.3 straight away or 1.0>1.2>1.3 ?

I'm on SuperClean 2.9.2v. Can I flash Community Rom v1.3 straightaway or should I install 1.0, then 1.2 patch and then flash 1.3? Sorry if it sounds like a noob Q but I couldnt find much information on the progression. I mean, nothing was mentioned in the 1.3 update if it could be flashed as an independent rom or was to be flashed over 1.0.
Thanks.

1.3 is a full rom....not a patch...no need to install previous versions
Thanks ace5198 and nitroglycerine33.
I find both the replies contradicting each other, but I presume wiping data and clearing the caches, and then flashing 1.3 straightaway (like nitroglycerine33 says) should work(?).
Also, I will backup my current rom and settings via CWR. But in case something goes wrong and I need to restore my current rom (SC2.9.2v), what kernel will I have to flash to make things work again? I guess I read somewhere that the nandroid backup doesnt back up the kernel. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks.

Nitsuj17, your reply came just in time! Thanks for clearing that along with Nitroglycerine33!
PS: If its not too much of a trouble, for beginners it'll be great if it is mentioned in the Changelog (such as 1.3) that it is a full rom and can be flashed straightaway.

Backups question regarding MR2 radio

I have recently rooted my Thunderbolt and have been contemplating using a GB rom. I have a quick question first though...when I backup my current rom before installing the new radio and flashing a GB rom will the backup have the radio included? Meaning if I revert back to the backup will it be necessary to install the old radio back or will the backup handle that?
Thanks guys. I love all the work you developers do. Your work is what makes Android the best phone os out there.

Thanks. One follow up..this may be a stupid question but I've read that the mr2 radio doesn't work on froyo roms so how will it work on a stock phone when it comes out BC the phone will still be on froyo?
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk
mr2 will work with the mr2 based froyo, that which is is released with and any roms based off of that. it does not work with current mr1 froyo.

2.17 Base Download? Freeza's All in One?

Hi, I'm fairly new here and I've read that if you flash a GB 2.17 base ROM while on the 2.17 firmware it will make for a better experience. My question is where can I download this and what would be the procedure while flashing ROMs? Can someone please enlighten me because I want to bring out the best in my phone.

Here is the AIO for 2.17 - LINK. You would put this on the root of your sd card, then go into bootloader and let it do it's thing. Will automatically ask you to update.
Then just find the 2.17 ROM you would like to install and flash it.

Does this mess with hboot or bootloader (i.e. upgrade it from 1.4 to 1.5)?
I don't think so. Freeza usually removes HBOOT from his zips. May want to wait for someone else to confirm. Although, if you're already S-OFF you can just download the file in the sticky to go back to 1.4.

Does not mess with bootloader. In the linked post, he does however state that he assumed it was to be used with 1.4.
So I just restore my backup of the stock old base ROM and flash this? Also am I supposed to wipe when flashing the 2.17 ROM of my choice? Sorry for all the questions. Just wanna familiarize myself with this stuff

Don't know what you have as a back up, but I would do a clean install of a 2.17 ROM after you install the 2.17 firmware.

Sorry I have the stock ROM as a backup. Not sure what the base is although I'm sure it's not 2.17. It's whatever is installed after achieving s-off and downgrading. Is it recommended for the battery to be at 100% before flashing a new ROM?

Not necessary for the phone to be 100% charged for flashing. I wouldn't flash with anything lower than 50% though.
Okay so I flashed that zip through the bootloader but I'm still on the 1.13 base. I though that was supposed to upgrade to the 2.17 base

You have to flash a 2.17 ROM. The 1.13 base is ROM, has nothing to do with the firmware that you flashed.
the link has been modified to ONLY flash parts of 2.17, the radio and a few others things i believe BUT it wont make your HBOOT1.5 or change your S-OFF status or hurt you, when u update youll notice only the first few items in the big list off the update, actually get updated.
its exactly what you were asking for and its safe. just make sure u download the file correctly and copy it over correctly. anything wrong with this file can brick your phone since its concerning your bootloader.
Ok I'm either not getting something or I'm totally over thinking this does this have to be flashed before flashing every 2.17 ROM? Do i restore a certain ROM to flash it and then flash another ROM? If someone can detail the flashing process for this I'd greatly appreciate it (including when and what to wipe)

Since you have already flashed the 2.17 firmware, all you need to do is flash a Rom. You do not need to flash the firmware again.
Find any 2.17 or ICS based ROM and flash away. Be sure to read the OP to see what works or not. When I choose a ROM to flash I always read a few of the last pages on the thread to see if any issues are being discussed.
When flashing a new base ROM, it is advised to do a backup. I backup sms, mms, call history, apps, and then do a full wipe prior to flashing. This can help alleviate any potential issues from one ROM to the other.

You don't flash it in recovery at all, you flash it in bootloader by renaming it pg86img.zip, putting it on the root of the sdcard, and let it flash, after that you have the firmware and won't have to worry about it again.

You may not need to change anything...which rom? Some recommend that you update the radio, but it's not required unless you're having issues. It's probably best to update to the latest firmware (minus hboot), but again, not required. Check this thread for the latest:

You best bet is to stay on your original hboot and just update everything else.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704612
This thread has everything you need. Then flash whatever rom you want.
Well I meant in terms of developing a Rom, if I took an existing one and changed it to 1.22
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
if u didnt take the OTA you need to flash the firmwear and new radio zip.. then just flash a 1.22 rom and your good to go
