Error when loading ROM from SD Card - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to upload a new ROM, and indeed have tried a few but keep getting the same error message on my HTC Hero G2 which states
E:Can't open /sdcard/Kimera1.8.zip
ip #
(bad)
Any suggestions on what I am doing incorrect would be very much appreciated.
I wiped everything prior
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe Delvik/cache
Wipe SD :ext partition
Wipe battery stats
Wipe rotate settings
And also my rotation isnt working any more

Have you tired another sd card with just a fat32 partition to see if that works?

No I havent as yet, but will the programme that wipes and sets up the ROM still work? Is this stored on the phone or SD Card?
And would I have to back up first?
Thanks

this error usually means you have a corrupted zip file. try redownloading.

Thanks Kendong I will give that a try later !!

[Q] G Tab encrytion unsuccessful...what now?

I started up my Gtab today (running ICS 4.0.x), and it keeps popping up stating "Encryption unsuccessful
Encryption was interrupted and can't complete. As a result the data on your tablet is no longer accessible.
To resume using your tablet, you must perform a factory reset. When you setup your tablet after the reset, you'll have an opportunity to restore any data that was backed up to your Google Account."
WTF?
I tried booting into recovery mode, but it hangs after stating "Recovery key detected, Booting recovery kernel image"
That's all it does....
Any suggestions on how to correct this?
Thanks ahead of time...

1. As the message says you'll most probably have to do a "wipe data/factory reset" in CWM. Run the command in this post.
2. Which version of CWM do you have?
Im not certain what version CWM is but it was the most up to date at the time. I cant access CWM as it sits now.
Should I try to use NVflash to rerun the Full_Stock_NVFlash_CWM_5504_Touch-1, just as I did before I installed ICS?...then reinstall the rom?
I can not access CWM...it locks up after stating "booting recovery kernel image"

The usual reason for that error message on ICS is a corrupted /data partition. To fix it you'll have to do either a "wipe data/factory reset" or a repartition the internal SD card in CWM.

The most common reason for that is
a) using the wrong version of CWM for the bootloader installed on the system--ie. using a recovery containing a 1.2 kernel on a 1.1 bootloader or vice-versa.
OR
b) a corrupted recovery partition.
To fix both on ICS--esp. if you've used the nvflash package in the TeamDRH ICS OP--try reloading only CWM-5.5.0.4Beta15 using nvflash.
Can you tell me what you were doing before all this happened? I can understand the /data partition becoming corrupt, or, the recovery kernel being the wrong one (or the partition being bad), but, I can't figure out how both can happen at the same time without something explicitly being done to cause it.
Not sure if it helps but I am also getting this error, I will update as I attempt to troubleshoot.
ROM: G_Harmony_ICSv1.5(120)(SuperCharged) (4.0.4)
CWM: 2.5.1.1-bekit-0.8
I got both errors but the second was solved by unplugging my computers USB cable from the g-tab.
(I can not access CWM...it locks up after stating "booting recovery kernel image") SOLVED
Steps:
1. From the settings picked factory reset loose all data and SD card data.
2. Reboot to recovery (CWM).
3. Formatted the internal SD card and ExSD card using CWM.
4. Mounted SD card on computer using USB cable connected to the G-Tab.
5. Let windows format the SD card. (Was this bad?)
6. Loaded ROM.zip file over to SD card from computer.
7. wipe data/factory reset.
8. wipe cache partition.
9. install zip from SD card -> coose zip from sdcard -> G_Harmony_ICSv1.5(120)(SuperCharged).zip
10. Install.
11. Reboot.
12. Error screen "Encryption unsuccessful Encryption was interrupted and can't complete. As a result the data on your tablet is no longer accessible...." "Press this button to do a factory reset"
13. Press the button to the same results.

UPDATE 1:
When I did a rewipe i found that when i did the data wipe is said:
-- Wiping data...
Formatting DATA...
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk3p2
(No such file or directory)
Error mounting /data/!
Skipping format...
Formatting CACHE:...
Formatting SDEXT:...
No app2sd partition found. Skipping format of /sd-ext.
Formatting SDCARD:/android_secure...
Data wipe complete.
Click to collapse
Could it be that when I used my computer to format the SD card I did it wrong?
UPDATE 2:
I was browsing around the CWM options and I found:
advanced -> Partition SD Card
Click to collapse
So I did that and then a data wipe again, and this time it said:
-- Wiping data...
Formatting DATA...
<<NOTE THE LACK OF ERRORS>>
Formatting CACHE:...
Formatting SDEXT:...
No app2sd partition found. Skipping format of /sd-ext.
Formatting SDCARD:/android_secure...
Data wipe complete.

I am hoping things should work now, I picked 2GB with a 0MB swap.
UPDATE 3:
Ok... should have figured that deleted my SD card files including my ROM "G_Harmony_ICSv1.5(120)(SuperCharged).zip" so I mounted it and copied it over again.
(I also did some mounting and unmounted and may have lost it there.)
UPDATE 4:
IT WORKS!! fixed, must have been because I formatted out the data partition, but CWM fixed this for me!
I hope this helps others with the same issue.

SD card issues with Sprint Evo 4g LTE

I am having issues with doing anything with my sdard in TWRP. I am trying to do a wipe on the sd card and it fails. This is the error I get.
Using rm -rf on '/dev/block/mmcblk1p1'
E:tw_format_rmfr: unable to locate volume for device "/dev/block/mmcblk1
* Verifying filesystems...
* Verifying partition sizes...
I always come across errors when doing a factory reset too. Any help would be much appreciated.
Edit: I forgot to include this also affects my ability to wipe dalvik. Recover is always saying that sd ext is busy and can not be mounted
Post the recovery log

Typically, when the device busy message propagates to the Linux console, this means some process is locking files in that partition, or a command prompt is open in a directory that lies within that partition. Also, do you have sdcard2 ext_sd mounted as read only or read/write?

I get the same error when I'm trying to wipe the internal SD card, but I have no problems wiping other stuff (cache, factory reset, etc.). I tried the "fix permissions" option in twrp but that didn't help either. I also have no problems mounting my internal SD card to the PC. I would like to wipe my internal SD card but I'm not sure if its a good idea to format it while its mounted to the computer...and just selecting all the folders and hitting delete while its mounted to the computer doesn't sound like a good idea either. Any suggestions?

SD is most likely corrupt, mount to PC via twrp and format to fat32

[Q] CWM: Wipe data/factory reset

Keep getting this error when wiping data and factory reset in clockworkmod:
Wiping data
Wiping cache
Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!
Skipping format
Format complete
Also for some reason in gallery the videos I take with the default camera addon results in the error "Sorry, this video cannot be played."
Any ideas whats wrong?
I AM USING NEUTRINO ROM v2.9
I think that error is irrelevant and can safely be ignored.
Not sure what to think of the other error regarding video playback.

it might be an idea to try another stable rom and see if you still have the problem (at least then you'll know if it's rom specific or your phone)
I just re-flashed the rom without default camera addon and video playback works perfectly. However, mounting error still exists. I'm going to try flashing another rom, any recommendations?
Oh and I partitioned and reformatted my internal sd but the error did not disappear.
Thank you both for replying! I'm new to this and I appreciate the feedback!:laugh::laugh:
Because you need to make sure everything is okay with your phone and sd card i'd recomend CM7.2 (Google CM OLYMPUS DOWNLOAD) and see if everything is working okay. If you're still having issues with your external i'd recommend trying another card.
hope that helps.

[Q] E: Unknown Volume Path [/sd-ext]

Using the latest CWM 6.0.4.5(Classic Version) I attempted to format /Storage/Sdcard1 in the mounts and storage menu. It came back a looping neverending error and had to vol up+power to reset. Now whenever I attempt to Wipe data/ Factory reset or Format the dalvik I get the error E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]. if reformatted my card and also tried a different one and still the same result. it seems I also run out of space if I try adding any more than around 2gb of data and have to delete stuff even though its showing 58gb free.
any help on how to fix this would be great.

I would get off CWM until it's updated to a newer version. Using CWM will "bork" your radio doing some flash installs. Until it's updated. I don't want anyone running it. New TWRP will have working internal and external storage.
