[Q] CWM: Wipe data/factory reset - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Keep getting this error when wiping data and factory reset in clockworkmod:
Wiping data
Wiping cache
Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!
Skipping format
Format complete
Also for some reason in gallery the videos I take with the default camera addon results in the error "Sorry, this video cannot be played."
Any ideas whats wrong?
I AM USING NEUTRINO ROM v2.9

I think that error is irrelevant and can safely be ignored.
Not sure what to think of the other error regarding video playback.

it might be an idea to try another stable rom and see if you still have the problem (at least then you'll know if it's rom specific or your phone)

I just re-flashed the rom without default camera addon and video playback works perfectly. However, mounting error still exists. I'm going to try flashing another rom, any recommendations?
Oh and I partitioned and reformatted my internal sd but the error did not disappear.
Thank you both for replying! I'm new to this and I appreciate the feedback!:laugh::laugh:

Because you need to make sure everything is okay with your phone and sd card i'd recomend CM7.2 (Google CM OLYMPUS DOWNLOAD) and see if everything is working okay. If you're still having issues with your external i'd recommend trying another card.
hope that helps.

Error when loading ROM from SD Card

I am trying to upload a new ROM, and indeed have tried a few but keep getting the same error message on my HTC Hero G2 which states
E:Can't open /sdcard/Kimera1.8.zip
ip #
(bad)
Any suggestions on what I am doing incorrect would be very much appreciated.
I wiped everything prior
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe Delvik/cache
Wipe SD :ext partition
Wipe battery stats
Wipe rotate settings
And also my rotation isnt working any more
Have you tired another sd card with just a fat32 partition to see if that works?
No I havent as yet, but will the programme that wipes and sets up the ROM still work? Is this stored on the phone or SD Card?
And would I have to back up first?
Thanks
this error usually means you have a corrupted zip file. try redownloading.
Thanks Kendong I will give that a try later !!

[Q] Full Wipe

Hi
Hopefully someone can help, as I am pulling my hair out :crying:
I have installed JB ROMS four times and updated Kernal to Phil however I still keep getting the same problems with my storage, not enough space etc for every ROM installed. I have updated the Kernal and performed factory reset, full wipe, format system, wipe cache, dalvik etc through recovery. However the phone still has the same user data each time, its like its not being deleted every time I install a new ROM. At the moment I can not sync gallery due to not enough space, download off line reading for the BBC, Guardian and the Current keeps crashing and other app thay requires data downloand.
The storage does not change no matter what and I can still see the same data files from the first install.
Is there an additional step I need to perform to completing wipe the phone internal ?
TIA
Sibs

Have you tried to mount the partitions you want to wipe in CWM recovery before wiping?
Maybe that's the trick.

I have not gone to play store to install stuff for some time alrdy and i am on this rom for 1mth alrdy. Cleared dalvik and cache partition as well. Havent try tried a format

[Q] Problem installing UltimaAOSP v1.1.1 [Valhalla]

Hello!
For some reason I am having some major trouble when I'm trying to install UltimaAOSP v1.1.1 [Valhalla] on my i9300. I have been running UltimaRom v15 for a long time now, but it has been acting up lately (the photo sphere function in the camera crashes every time it's launched and the "system UI" crashes when i try to enable the GPS), so I decided to try out UltimaAOSP.
I have followed the install instructions exactly, wipe data/factory reset and unmount cache. I have tried with and without installing GApps.
PROBLEM: When i restart the phone I can barely get past the sim password screen before stuff starts crashing (contextprovider, phone and one more that i can't remember), and It just keeps crashing over and over so I can't really do anything. When It's left alone for 30 seconds or so it restarts the phone and everything starts crashing again.
"Extra" stuff i have tried:
- Wiping cache partition
- Clearing dalvik cache
- Moving the .zip-file to the internal sd card and external sd card
- Installing V1.1, got exactly the same error(s)
I am currently using CWM 6.0.4.6
Please help? This Is driving me nuts!

Try a full wipe format in mounts and storage format the following: format/system, format/cache, format /preload, format /data, warning this will leave you without any rom so make sure you have one ready to flash on your Ext SD.
Because you are not fully wiping it is leaving files behind which interferer with your new installation (short explanation)
Also I would recommend Philz recovery which does all this for you (it as a option to wipe to install a new rom) :good:

[Q] "Unfortunately, (apps) has stopped..."

The problem is, its not one or specific app that crash, its almost all.. the error massage overlapping the other error massage! its almost impossible for me to navigate through my phone. Each time I click "OK", other errors pop up.. usually its not happen to the apps I install, the error happen on android service app.. like phone, contact, calendar, google service, etc.. etc.. the only solution I did is to wipe everything (since I root it). I have to wipe everything for it to work.. if I wipe internal only, and install other custom rom.. its not working.. I have to wipe everything.
my question is how to fix this "Unfortunately, (apps) has stopped..." error without wiping everything???
If you are using custom ROM then download exactly the SAME version of the ROM you currently have and reflash it without doing factory reset (make sure you wipe out dalvik and regular cache after flashing). Also this sounds like corrupt internal storage, best solution involves losing ALL of your data (yes, even ROM). I suggest you to do hard reset (completely format /system partition). After doing that be aware that no OS will be installed on your phone and you should flash one using recovery like you do with regular ROM installation (with cache cleaning and Gapps flashing). Your phone will work like charm again. Make sure your backup all your important stuff before doing it. Also if you use SD card I would recommend formatting it as well because it contains (probably) broken application data and obbs.
Or, try reinstalling the google services app.. If that fails reflash the rom twice via recovery. If that fails, as above, backup, reset to stock and start over.

By Corrupt Internal Storage I mean software way, it gets formatted to RAW instead of exFAT or NTFS or whatever format it is by default. This was happening quite a lot with my SD card, Android system was reading/writing something on it in the background, I was playing some game and suddendly phone restarted because of Low memory killer. And what happened is that SD card operation suddendly stopped which most probably made it virtually corrupt (formatted from NTFS to RAW) and made it unable to read on phone and PC. Only solution was to format is using Windows' Disk Managment tool and format it freshly. Same thing rarely happens to internal storage which means your ROM won't boot and your phone will be booted into recovery or you will get bootloop. That being said maybe some of your segments from OS are virtually damaged which prevents apps from functioning properly making them crash. Another reason could be "optimizing" apps such as Greenify, Battery Boosters etc which can crash other apps as well.
