Does anyone have information on upgrading the RAM to 64 Meg, last time I looked here there was some info on it but it seems to have gone
I would also like to know where to purchase the RAM Chips.
Try www.expansys.co.uk, they advertise two upgrades, 64Mb and 128Mb, although the 128Mb one is not available yet.
Yes I had seen the Expansys upgrade at £94.43 but I would prefer to buy the chip and do the upgrade myself, if possible.
THe problem is where to buy the right chip... and then install
Expansys are getting their upgrades from PPCTECH in the States, it might be worth contacting them for chips.
where to buy XDA memory cards from
You can buy extra memory from store like Dixons, but if you do want a RAM update then you cane go to a O2 Store and they will sell you 32 MB Ram update so that you have 64 MB for £30 or so. this is quite good
if you need any more information email at [email protected]

I contacted PPCTECH in the states and got this trply from their Tech Support;
Hi Angus,
The XDA is one of the most difficult units we upgrade. It is surface mount
and not user installable.
I would suggest going through expansys.com.
Best Regards,
Leonard
So it looks like we will have to wait until expansys get their act together
My phone has now been at Expansys for, um, just coming up to 3 weeks. And the parts still haven't arrived. I made the order in January, and waited several weeks before they sent me the details of what to do, and now I've done it I had expected them to have the parts in already.
Just a point to note. The maximum RAM an XDA will accept is 64Mb. If you get the 128Mb upgrade, 64MB will be allocated to RAM, the remaining 64Mb will be used as a virtual storage card - however, it will still be wiped after a hard reset / flat battery.
Best not let the battery go flat then!!!!
I am still tempted to wait for the 128Mb rather that the 64Mb. Unless the price of 512Mb SD cards comes down a bit.

This is not the same as a RAM upgrade.
OK, so I am seeing all those tasty looking 32GB, 64 GB and larger solid state hard drives.
Is it conceptually feasible that the Athena could take one of these???
Think of the possibilities, the Athena could truly be a UMPC, much like the Sony UX series.
Keith Walker
Nope.. Sorry.. The HD in the Athena is a stripped down 1.8in drive so its actually a bit smaller. The 2nd gotcha is that the interface is not a standard connector, thus nothing else will work (For now).
that 32 gb ssd is about 2200 USD
if u really wanna put that on ur athean =x
not true boinger66... 32gb is only $549 for sandisk ssd

It seems the smallest SSD's out there are 1.8 inch which are still too big for the Athena, whose hard drive is more like 1.0 inch(?).
FWIW, the connector is important too, and I beleive that the type of connector the Athena uses is identical to the type available on the new SSD's.

Why do you believe that? Got any links to back it up?
if u want flash u have to go CF with a converter to connect thats it, unless you want to cut the caseing and tape the ssd on the back
WAIT i have the best idea to get flash memory it the x7500........................
insert this thing thats small it really mini like an SD card but mini
This thread details the connector, 'PATA ZIF':

Here is at least one 1.8 (won't fit) that has the same connector:

Let's hope that SSD's shrink down to Hitachi Microdrive dimensions, then we will have a true UMPC!

yea woops i was thinking about the one for computers =x
OK, if not 1.8 will a 1.3 HDD fit in the Athena???

Hopefully the CES show will lauch some tiny SSD drives. I could go for a flash based 1TB drive in the Athena, lol....
Even with a terabyte of solid-state, its still not a "UMPC", as UMPCs are known on the market today. Don't get me wrong, I love my Athena and I certainly think of it as a much more of an ultra-mobile PC than a proper "UMPC". Inputs, outputs, ability to run just about any utility app you could want, it has everything. The only thing it lacks is high-capacity storage like a true UMPC and I know that's the point you are making. For me that won't be an issue since 8GB (plus 8+GB on the SD card) is more than enough for a ton of tunes, several movies, and all the apps I'll ever use.
I don't mean to split hairs, but whoever comes out with a PDA sized device that place calls, get email and has an SSD over 64GB, will get my money.
What I do is to install all applications either in microdrive or the device. music and video files go to the storage cards. Because no application is on the storage card, I'm able to swap my storage cards like I would with dvd disks. This means I have the ability to have whatever amount of storage as I want. Currently with about 80 applications installed, i've used less than 10% of the available space on microdrive. I should never ever need all the 8gb of microdrive storage space. I do have at least 20gb of music files, and these go to the storage cards. If I select only the 5 star rated songs, all would fit into one 4gb storage card without problem. I'm now eyeing the 8 gb storage cards though.
In short, I don't feel there is a need to install bigger size SSD, although it would be nice if this can be done.

I do wonder if there are limits to the ultimate storage capacity with WM6 architecture?
Limits being?:
Expansion card size
Hard drive upgrade
one major point i see in this upgrade even if its a minor size upgrade will be its durability.ive owned my wizard for 2 years and ive put it through so tough falls and what not.not saying thats gonna happen with my athena, but not having a problimatic microdrive would be a plus, big plus.

Well im not sure about the sharing part but i can guarantee 16GB isnt enough especially when you will be sharing the tab
16 Gigs should be fine, spend 12 bucks and 2 USB to go dongles, one for you and one for your wife. Voila! Mass storage.
Hi I will be brief and to the point. I am an app fiend and have serious problems with smartphones where the data partition is reduced in size and I end up with like 3gb or 4gb for apps which i find too little for my needs every time. I need to buy a phone with unified storage out of the box, preferably under 150usd and 32gb rom(at least). Personally I would love to geek out and tamper with it (*resize.change rom/etc,) as you guys do but an unfortunate accident left me with severe ptsd and focusing to do extensive tasks is out of the question for me until i heal. I will brick it quicker then the windows BSOD appears when you least expect it .
Can any kind soul guide me to find one where the entire data partition would be comprised of the entire rom (be it 32 gb or 64gb) I may consider 16gb (+microsd for pics.movies etc) unified as long as 32 is not possible and the price is acceptable. Thank you for taking a look. I guess you, as long as you scour the markets all day long anyway, you may easily find and point me to what I need. Thank you.
PS. I found a XIaomi Mi3 64GB on sale under 200 usd. Is it unified/would it be worth it? TY.
PPS. I heard about app2sd but unfortunately that app bricked me two microsd cards due to overheating so far. currently am a skeptic).
ppps: Worst case, at least you may be able to guide me to a device with the highest available internal memory which you know of (data partition) - thanks.
Thanks again for your kind help.
i am bumping this one, still hoping for one or two suggestions of phones with unified storage. thank you.

Thanks. Phew. Finally an answer. I'll look into those. Should anyone know of any others please let me know. Thank you.
so i bought one off these in aliexpress today in a promo .
but now i got very worried after reading comments saying its RAM and ROM are fake not 6gb 128gb, and thats on the oficial store of the brand on a ali.
so anyone can open it and show to us what chips are inside ;
and also test the hard disk rom in a software like h2testw to confirm that its really 128gb.
can you not test the storage your self ? just copy a few files over say 100gb plus and leave it over night.
Was just going to buy this but then saw it wont play netflix in had so now swerving it and going for a lenovo p11
still didn't arrived . customs take too long here. i put a remind for next month do tests and post here.
i will try to test rom with h2testw if is possible. connecting to pc on usb and testing as external drive .
if anybody know more simple and really effective programs to test properly write here and put links
Just try with a few large files.....you must have some ? Even if you copy a game folder over from your pc.

Any results?
my T803 aliexpress tablet is 128GB and 3GB rom and i havent had any issues its also a unisoc T310
Hello, I bought a P70Pro tablet from Aliexpress. 8GB RAM 256GB ROM but I couldn't use all that space. I was able to copy only 14gb of mp4 clips. I found someone else who talked about the file names. Big names can cause this, but I don't think that's it. I tried to copy several types of files but it's no use, the memory full message always appears. I bought another M40Pro 564GB tablet and the same thing happens. Any suggestion? [email protected]
