I was trolling the Incredible forums earlier and was wondering if we could do this with the Eris...???....
The Wiki post in this same thread was a interesting read none-the-less.

I live near Charlotte, NC and I can't make calls after changing to EVRC-B.
I guess our phones don't suppoert it like the incredible...Worth a shot
The phone supports it. It is a question whether the network in your particular area supports it. Apparently the network in the Charlotte area doesn't.
I have been using b for a long time plus my eris on cricket too. Works fine.
##778, call, cdma settings, change all 3 at the bottom, menu > commit.
i made an account just to say this really works im about a quarter mile from a tower.
Does this work with google voice?
Anyone having success using this on Evil Eris v2.0.1? Everytime I dial ##778, it makes a call instead of bringing me to the settings. :-\
I actually changed to EVRC-B awhile ago, but am now out if my home area and EVRC-B isn't supported here. ##778 is not working and I need to switch it back. Help?

have you tried dialing ##778# ?
Yep, nothing happens. After the last #, it clears and leaves me hanging.

Hi,
Running GSB 1.9 on my Eris.
Starting today, my phone has been switching between 3G and 1X, and seems to stay on 1X more.
I've seen posts saying that I should update the PRL by dialing *228 opt 2. Problem though. After dialing *228, I never get the option to open up the keypad to enter option 2. All I get is a red screen with "Activate your phone" at the top, with a note "Please wait while your phone is being programmed." There is a status bar under this note, a "Speaker" button and "Back" button at the bottom. No phone buttons work on this except for the "Home" and "Back" button.
As I'm typing this, I called once more. After waiting on hold, it automatically went into programming and gave me a note that it may take 15 minutes to work.
Nothing's worked yet.
Any help?
For all of the non-HTC based ROMs (Froyo and GB in particular), if you long-press on menu, it should pop up the keyboard. From there you can change to the numeric entry and press 2 (or 1 if you want to activate the phone.)
Since I can't remember the last time I dialed *228, I decided to give it try.
And long pressing on menu worked as doogald said.
Thanks
You can also insert two 2 second pauses followed by 2 (for roaming update) from the dialer before hitting send.
Curious, did reprogramming help the switching from 1x to 3g?

or dial *22899 and that will do the same as selecting option 2 when dialing *228

thanks. i did not know this. much easier than long pressing menu, sometimes it doesnt recognize the numbers properly.
Did *228 fix the 3g 1x problem for you? It did not for me, but flashing a newer radio seemed to do the trick.

No, it seemed to fix itself the next day or two. Must have been a Verizon problem.
Whenever I dial one of my contacts set up as say 555-555-5555... When I press it goes to dial and it says 1-555-555-5555 instead.
I have never had a phone do this... Is there a way to not have this happening? Is there a reason why it is happening?
Thanks very much for anyones time.
It has to do with area codes and long distance crap. Its ok, you dont have to add it all the time but having it done automatically is good so you dont have to.
Go under call in the settings menu and uncheck automatic pretend. That will take away the 1

Thanks very much! Couldn't find that. Appreciate it!
Exactly what peecs said
It's in Settings > Call > uncheck the box marked Automatic prepend
Really, leaving this checked doesn't have any negative impact on how your phone operates or calls out to other numbers. You won't get any sort of overage charge on your bill or anything like that. Plus, it's helpful if you're dialing someone from a different area code because it will automatically add the 1 to the beginning of the number
Yep best to just ignore it, there for good reason

But why does it bother you at all?? As long it is making the call is what should matter. It can dial a 9 instead of a 1 doesn't matter to me. Long distance calls have to have it. But there's an option to take it off.

It's a calling code for a country, our country code is 1. If you were calling someone in lets say... Argentina it would be 54 instead of 1 (so +54-9-555-555-1234) if you were calling the US from another country it would show up as: +1-555-555-1234.
But yeah, as long as you don't call other countries, it doesn't matter what the setting is set at.

I didn't say it bothered me. I was just wondering what the deal was. I had never had a phone that did this by default.
Thanks to everyone for their help.

Yeah exactly... I'm not sure why people are talking that there needs to be a 1 for other area codes. It isn't a land line hehe. I've never had to dial one for other area codes on a cell.
Does anyone know how to get a network extender to work with cm7dx2 or eclipse 1.0.4? When you make a call you shoult hear 2 tones saying that your connected to it, it is not doing that since i put either of these roms on my dx2. I've tried #48 but is says the feature update could not be completed. I do know when i was on stock, the phone did connect to it. any sugestions? Thanks.
John
You might want to reprogram the phone. Dial *228 and select option 2. After it's done dial *228 again and select option 3 to update your roaming database.
tried that and it still isnt working. I'm going back to stock later to see if it will connect to it.
My extender world with CM7X2 no problem. Now one thing I was explained if you were an Altel convert you had to use a hybrid PRL to make it work.

always been with verizon. I placed a call with support, and still waiting for the tech to call my phone instead of my wifes phone since she isnt home during the day. The tech cant seem to call the number i give him in his voice mail. He said in the voicemail that they didnt see any errors in the extendor. I just want to get this working.
I have a problem with my wife's Droid 3 just sucking in general. They will have to send a field engineer out to look at the surrounding signal before they will offer to give you a new extender

OK, I've been afraid of Google voice for a long time after seeing all the horror stories. But,...it also has some really nice features.
I installed it, but 2 days later realized I couldn't make or receive calls. I've been googling all day for hours, spent over an hour talking to sprint, and just cannot get it set up. At this point, I have no voicemail service (other than sprint longpress 1)
If anyone is SUPERfamiliar with Google voice, and has a few minutes to spare, please hit me up at my [email protected] for gtalk.
Much thanks.

Scott. Just going to bed bit the set up should be relatively seamless. Especially since you would be integrating fully with your sprint number I would think.
I don't know why it would keep you from making phone calls though.
You may need to log onto your gmail account on a p.c. to get the settings all set up.

Thanks Nate. I didn't see that one, I'll have a look. I installed it, it seemed to work, then I went to web and disabled call screening, that's the only change I've made, and after that I couldn't make/receive calls.
Had to play with a lot of sh1t and get sprint involved yo make calls again.
I'm thinking that in settings, my device # and my Google voice # are the same, maybe that's the prob. Like its using the final # as the forwarding # as well. I know I'm doing something wrong.
Really hoping for a long-time GV user to chime in.
Thanks to all.

Aarrggghhh
That web page says the same thing that's going wrong. It says when you install it, you can choose whether GV handles calls, intn'l calls, etc. It doesn't. It just installs and asks you to pick your gmail acct and done. That's it.
When I open phone>settings>voicemail, I should be able to choose between 'my carrier' and 'Google voice'. Not so. Google never shows up. My carrier is he only option, ever.
from my flying AOKP'd Evo LTE and xda premium
Oh, also, I've reinstalled Google voice and I'm logged in to it, but when someone calls me and I Dont answer, it goes to sprint voicemail, ...Google voice never even tries.
WTF am I doing wrong?
The main # is the same as the GV number and I suspect that's the problem, just can't find how to change it.

Reset google voice app, go to the website and disable the number wait roughly 15 minutes. Go ahead and forward again and enter your number wait 15 again. Your.number should show up as mobile sprint google voice enabled. Then go to gvoice app and it will ask if you want to integrate, integrate and it should just load messages

Enter which # at the website, my sprint #, or the other number I just noticed that I think is a Google voice number I created several months ago?
Sorry, this setup just has me really confused.
Thanks.

You enter your sprint number
I think I got it. I went to log out and for the first time ever saw the option in settings to make calls from Google voice, or make only international calls blah blah. Looked for that yesterday and swear it wasn't there.
Anyway, logged out .
Went to website a few minutes later
There was an open dialog window that has never been there before about 'you can SRT up Google voice on your sprint device, would you like to?'
Never seen that before. I chose yes. It called my phone and I had to type in two identification digits and done.
That had never happened before . Waited 5 min. Reinstalled voice app. Integrated. However, that 'make calls from' option in settings is now gone, weird.
Thanks on and Nate.

Mods feel free to delete . Sorry to waste everyones time.

its not a waste, its just a bit confusing with the changes they've made, gvoice app has gone through 3 major changes and the site had an overhaul not long ago, and several layout changes
I haven't come across this being brought up before, and I certainly don't want to repeat thread topics, but is anyone else not able to forward calls through the Call menu in Settings? The option is greyed out.
I first noticed this when trying to get Google Talk set up for my voicemail, when the app was unable to adjust forwarding settings. Ultimately, I had to call T-Mobile so they could send missed calls to my GV number. The CSR couldn't figure out why he could access that setting but I couldn't, so he suggested I try a master reset, but I'm not ready to do something like that right now.

I'm on pure stock, and the call forwarding options work on my phone. That is I can get to the settings, I didn't try and forward calls.

On stock rooted 1.27.531.7 and I have the same problem. Will not let me set it to G Voice through the normal means. This worked on the factory software just fine.
Do this: dial **004*<number-forward-to>#
Ex: **004*15556667777#
Then call it.
The code wouldn't work for me, giving me a similar error as when I tried to set it up through GV.
