Hello Dev`s do here have some devs who are fitness maniacs or just wana create such a super easy to use software.
Im talking about Nutrition Facts Software for WinMo.. very simple, easy to use finger friendly and with good images this will be very light application but will be something great.
Im master teacher of fitness and i already test similar programs like My Personal diets and etc etc all this Softs are just BAD and complicated.. i will explain you what i mean.
In internet is full with Info about the Nutrition Facts so lets think that 200 foods are the mostly used one for everyday use.
All serious diets and real diets are very very personal for example there is no Universal diet for everyone, the diet depends from how old are you, how tall, how weight, what kind of structure you have and methabolism, so they are very very individual but they all have one Touch Point and this is the FOOD.
And with soft like this will be very easy for everyone using the Mobile Devices to be in shape.
Now you can download the whole list of Food nutrition facst from internet and use it from your dekstop pc or even to upload them to your phone but will be even better if you can have a finger friendly Nutrition Facts on your mobile device...
When you are on diet for example i will call the person who is on dieat now "Ricko"
So Ricko have already his own personal diet and he know how many carbohydrates, Fat and Protein he need to Eat per DAY but he can`t remember all the Foods in his brain and witch one how many % Carbs or anything other he just can open his Nutrition App on his Mobile Device.. befor lunch and to chek out something like this..
Okay i need to eat 20grams of Carbs m 5 grams of Fat and 10grams of Protein on my lunch so he just can CHOICE from a very very big cataloge from alot diferent foods what he wana eat. He can see that the rise is for example 80% Carbs per 100grams so he will say wow i like to eat rise so when i need 20grams of carbs for lunch this mean i can eat 25grams of rais now he need 10 grams of protein he will choice again what meat or what kind of food he wana eat to make this 10 grams avalible.
So i hope to understand me clear what i mean this can be something like catalogue withthe Nutrition Facts.. and will be very easy for everyone to choice what he wana eat exactly.. because you cannot eat the same food all the time... if you are on diet and you know 20 or 30 foods that are good for you and thats all but there are plenty of more and more foods that are good for us and we forget them. with a app/catalog like that we can have a good diet and we to choice by yourself what we wana eat right now and when we know the Nutrition Facts of this food we can calculate how many grams from this Food we need for today.
Super simple, easy for everyone and very usefull.
If anyone can create some app/cataloge like this will be perfect.
The food need to be separated like this:
CARBOHYDRATES
simple and complex carbohydrates,
FATS:
Saturated fats and Trans fats are known as the "bad" fats
Unsaturated fats and Monounsaturated fats are known as the "good" fats
PROTEIN
I know you mentioned you used VidaOne's My Personal Diet, but it already does everything you're requesting other than lookup nutrition info online. It has a huge database of foods and it's easy to add new foods/dishes to it so I'm not sure there is a lot of need for something different.

Its complicated and ugly UI
about this that is complicated the vide one do many things that are not usefull so like i say the only usefull things in the dieats is to KNOW the food facts all other is .........
let me tell you example why is diferen, there are writen foods and many foods that are ready foods like menu im talking about complate diferent app because, for example try to search in the Vida One MILK and will see the reslult..
The application that i talk about can give FREEDOM to all the peoples who sport and use diets.. because you always can choice what you wana eat not only a ready MENU you can create your OWN MENU itself like 20grams of Raise and i like CHiken so 150grams Chiken meat and + something other.. you are able to make your own MENU with the FOOD you like.. you are able to calculate how many grams from this food you will need to eat and this is the freedom.
About the ugly UI like i say.... there have alot of options who are not usefull and ridiculous. i try also My Trainer just to see how is made and again there are ridiculous options that are useless NOT because i don`t use them they are uselles because they can`t be used for REAL my point is that is a joke here this app to telling you how must to be your pulse or heartrate, because EVERY HUMAN have diferent pulse and blood presure so for example for me when i workout my pulse is normal to be around 165 170 when im building muscles.. for other peoples this can be ALOT and they to be able to build muscles in lower pulse like 150 for that reason i can say that this APP is complete not usefull because i will say it again the ONLY importmantly thing is the FOOD so if you have a finger friendly APP with nice images.. and Nutrition facts of the FOOD that is enought everyone can Choice what he wana eat..
Thats is the diference..
In some programs you need to choice what to eat, and in program like this you can Choice what you WANT to eat and to have the same result..
Also the foods facts are not separete like they must to be for example like i say have 2 kind of carbs witch are complate diferent.. and if in the program is writen only carbs.. and you don`t know about them.. you will eat all the time simple carbs and will wonder WHY im getting more and more and more FAT and im not feeling good, because nobody explain you or is not writen about the Nutrition what your Body need exactly.
Now i just think that in app or lets call it cataloge is mor corect like this can be integrated something like Nutrition Calc will be even better.

Alright here's the deal. I have an app idea for a game that I plan on creating that is very simple, and I have a good feeling it will take off. My worries is that developing it will almost be pointless because of the lax android market policy. I am a new programmer, so my worry is I will make the app pretty decent, and some more experienced programmer will be able to duplicate it and make it better. This just doesn't seem right. I know this happens all the time (Fruit Slice, for example, is a Fruit Ninja knockoff and it's free).
Android is a love it/ hate it relationship. Users love being able to download just as good of knockoffs for free, but I'm sure this is a major turn off for developers who worked hard on their original idea's, just to have it undercut by another developer who will offer a similar (or even better app) for free. Part of me wishes I could just develop it for iOS, but I don't have a Mac or iPhone, and don't ever plan on getting one.
My question is, is there anyway to stop it? Like a patent, or something similar? This is my major hesitation to developing for android. I know I'm not going to be the best programmer out there, but it's the idea that make the apps, and that's where I feel like (I'm sure a lot of other people do too) I could do some contributing. Let me know how you guys feel about this

welcome to programming for any platform. There are (free) alternatives to almost every single program (android-based, windows-based, etc...)
I think you're in a very bad place to ask about that question. Programmers are usually not at all fond of patents since they tend to be overly broad, hard to detect and generally of low quality. (In case you haven't noticed that's also my opinion)
But yes, if that's what you want to do, a patent would be the way to go. Copyright protects your code, but not your idea.
Make it free. Put ads on it. If it takes off make an iOS one
Sent from my MOTWX435KT using XDA App
As far as I can remember, from my Intellectual Property Law class, software (i.e. apps) cannot be the subject of a patent. But of course, this changes from country to country.
Here are some links you might want to read up on:
http://www.wipo.int/patentscope/en/patents_faq.html#software
http://www.freibrun.com/articles/articl2.htm
Computer-based inventions... yeah, they're not supposed to be patentable: Not in the US and even less in the EU. The key point is how computer-based inventions is defined. The standard way around it is simply to patent "a machine doing XY" instead of "XY"
Basically, the patent clerks don't check for anything but formalities. I used to help out on the peertopatent platform, but it just became ridicolous because the clerks would let everything through no matter what prior art or explanations of obviousness we provided.
Patenting is the worst thing you can do. Don't you read all the patent BS going around lately? Also, spending money on a patent won't be enough, you'll also need to spent money enforcing it, and you won't make any friends by being a litigator.
All you can do is provide the best product you can come up with and hope for the best. If someone makes something similar but better, well, you'll just have to work harder. Or drop the whole thing.
But as others have said, you'll have this problem on *all* platforms. A practical example, when Nero released their burning app for Linux, my thought was "This is kinda cool, but why would I pay for Nero, when there's K3B and other apps that to the job, but are open source and free?"
The trick is to provide something others don't have. In the case of NeroLinux it's familiarity for ex-Windows folks or dual-booters. In your case it could be more features, better graphics, easier to navigate interface, regularly provided additional content... something in that direction.
Hey app devs out there,
I just looked for a simple but powerfull calculator via the android market. Found nothing but the "old school" ones.
Yeah, there are tons of calculators out there, one has more abilities than the other. But thats not what I am looking for!
I am WORKING with my windows7 laptop, word2010 and microsoft's math4. Give it a try and you will see why I love this combination that damn much!
I am studying machanical engineering, so I need some features more than others, but the biggest thing is it must be as written on paper, that is what word2010+math4 gives me!
I write the fractions just as I would write them on paper, right after x^4/y^2 and space it is shown to me not in that freaky oldschool style, like excel still does.
So, why not have such an calculator on android? That would give many high mathematic working people a chance to get rid of windows, get an tablet (for me still an GalaxyAce) with android and a powerfull but easy to handle calculator.
As I have no clue about programming, it would take me months just to get the first lines, but this job realy needs enthusiasts to get it the way I mind it.
So, if any of you here knows where to place this request, please help me out. There must be sitting some super brains waiting for another challange, this would be a huge one!

I also came across the same need. It is pretty strange that on google play there is no such scientific calculator app available. I mean, the "natural display" feature would really be usefull, particulary on big screen devices. Anyone knows if such an app has been developer since DaBigFreak opened this thread?

We thought the same, so we developed an app that does exactly this! Let me know if you have any feedback. You can check it out here:

Hi! and thank you for taking the time of answering my previous post.
I am really glad that your team developed an android app with natural display capabilities. I am going to give it a try for sure :good::good:

Hahahaha I definitely didn't expect to get a response from a 3 year old thread That's great to hear. You guys were actually part of the reason why we decided to develop this app - I ran into the same problem and was amazed at how there were zero natural display scientific calculators on the store, while the Apple Store had tons. We're continually updating the app at the moment and just added programmable constants! If you could leave a review that would mean a lot to me :fingers-crossed:

Cool! I am actually having problemas with my smartphone so i had only the time for quicky trying the app. Now i have resetted it but still it's not ok. I am currently looking for a new smartphone. As soon as i get the new phone, root it i will install your app and review it! :good:
Wow, its a realy nice working calculator, but I definitly need integrals and matrizes. So if you could add this, it will be realy usefull at university

Thanks! We'll add that to the list of features to be implemented. At the moment we're working on adding history and favourites which is turning out to pretty painful. If you could leave a rating or review in the store, we'd be so grateful!

Before that, I'd love to see integrals, sum and matrizes. Then you can essentially do anything you want or that could be done.
Next big thing would be to make variables calculating available. Not storing a certain number as A, B, or C, but let the calculator solve an non-number equation to a specific variable.
Right behind that, setting up variables with a value, so you can define A:=5.0, B:=2*A and the equation only has A and B, the calculator gives the results.

All the things you've asked for are being worked on at the moment, but understandably it will be months before they're actually implemented. At the moment we really need traction to increase the visibility of our app, otherwise there's really no incentive for us to continue developing if it's going to be buried underneath thousands of crappy calculator apps on the Play Store That's why reviews and ratings are so important to us. We do take into account the many features that our users request, they'll all sitting in a document, slowly being ticked off one by one
Hi i am interested in becoming a developer. I have been researching schools that have bachelor degrees in mobile operating systems. The most clear cut program i have found is through full sail university.. However they font have the best credentials. I had wondering what some of the developers and mods might think of full sail and any recommendations they might have for other programs

Others can correct me if they disagree, but I think that the reason that you're not finding much in the way of "mobile operating systems" degree programs is that there just aren't that many schools that have a program that narrowly focused, especially in an area so (relatively) newly booming. I'm interested in a career in mobile developemtn and I'm nearing the end of a Computer Science bachelors program, and I feel like I've been very well served by it -- I think you're much more likely to find long-term success if you look more towards a general Computer Science degree at a reputable college or university rather than some flashy super-specific program at a for-profit school like Full Sail University. I'm not inclined to say that their program would hold up.

What you want is a BS in computer science because you need to learn the languages, not how to do one specific thing. The main idea behind it all is learning how to think like a programmer. I've seen mobile app dev classes at my university, but they normally require pre req computer science classes and they aren't part of a degree program.
- In reality though many programmers never go to school. Everything you need to know is on the internet. It will be a long road but well worth it, the hardest part is getting started, and sticking with it. I'd suggest starting here:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/want-to-learn-how-to-program-for-android-start-here/
I agree with the other two posters. Dont pursue a degree in mobile developing. Who knows, maybe within 5 years the next big thing might be here and render all this mobile stuff useless. However, all this programming and how to think like a programmer stuff will still be around, not to say that things you learn from mobile development wont be relevant though. When you fully decide to go this route, stick with it and be dedicated. You will spend many, many, many nights trying to do the simplest things. You will need plenty of time to study and code. If you have kids, it'll be even tougher but still doable if you are dedicated, you'll just simply sleep a lot less. There will also be many night when some strange errors will seem unsolvable and that's when it'll push you to your limits. At that point, it makes or breaks a lot of people and I have reason to believe it breaks a lot of folks. Anyway, its a long road ahead. It took me a very long time to create my fist app and it was the simplest app ever. If I had to build that app again, I could probably do it in less than a hour and it'll probably be better than the first one, haha. Also, most developers know that its something like 90% of the code is already written for you, its the 10% of what you code that make it unique and yours. Good luck.

No, you should not. If you want to earn money from android application development, think about making a killer app. Try making something that you never seen before.
But always remember : You should always start small; make your app simple , intuitive.

hey...thanks for replying..
actually i am still studying ( i am in college) and make these apps in my leisure time..so i am not hoping to get huge amount of money..
i was thinking if i could get enough money just to cover up my expenses like hostel and other stuffs..

If you want to learn some money, think about making a game.
Simple, small, not so complicated. Maybe a kid's game sounds good? Something 2D or 3D , doesn't matter.
I know it could take long , but it's worth it.
Editos #1: Remember : Always start small, don't get too bulky and complicated. You can always add features to the games by updates.
I understand we students are always short of money and earning our own extra money is always cool . But you must also understand how people look for paid apps. If you make a simple app (in terms of functionality or graphics what ever it is), people doesnt feel like paying for it. As neroSS said, start small, new, intuitive, innovative and attractive and finally! Promoting it! Nobody knows you have done a app without promotion and xda does it for us for free!
TIP: Never re-produce something which has already been done. It doesnt attract more users. But you can always try them for learning purpose.
I would also be careful with using registered trademarks in your app (which GTA for sure is).

That's a really good point.
Also, look for another way to monetize your app, for example using ads, or making two versions of it (free - pro). Generally in Android, a user only pays for a very good app.
Hope it helps.
I don't see a point in having this application if you could easily just search online for them without the app. Thanks for the contribution regardless.

Hello fellas. Sad to share, but my niece was diagnosed with diabetes few days ago. Struggling to find some app that converts and calculate simple data as Bread Unit to specific foods. Also vice versa. And maybe also some primary info for foods , like kcal.
All info needed can be provided by me, also there os a lot in internet, but some calculator/ converter app will be brilliant. There is app , but some stuff we need is missing, like reverse calculations and basic info for foods.
So it is basic mathematics , just formula, and user must choose food to BU (bread unit) or reverse calculation based on fruit weight and it's BU index. Thats all.
If there is someone, who would like to develop such app, please contact me or write here for info. I will be more than pleased and grateful also many people around the globe (yeah i think it is globe, earth is not flat ) . I'm ready also to pay for this, i believe even every person in our situation would do so!
Thanks in advance! Waiting for your help mighty developers!
