Has/Will Verizon Offered Anything To Their Customers? - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Question.....
And yes, I know it's Verizon, but we might as well ask...
When I started working T-Mobile TS it was just after the HP IPAQ mess where the software issues with WM software - it being so new and not really tested that the phone hardware eventually died out based on the number of crashes and restarts required throughout the day.
After about 3 or 4 months T-Mobile started to offer customers who owned the IPAQ and experienced the issues a replacement/upgrade at either a heavy discount or completely free depending on how often the customer account referenced them calling to get help or report an issue. This offer was to (1) get the phone out of people's hands and into the rubbish bin, (2) reduce the number of TS calls daily, (3) end the regular hassle of dealing with MS and HP on patches and fixes, and (4) to improve customer care. Note the customer is last there as the others were costing them more money than the customer's they lost based on the problems probably thanks to their early term fee.
I bought the ERIS basically for 2 reasons - (1) IMHO HTC kicks Moto's and Apple's butts on phones, (2) I want ANDROID. I had a MyTouch with T-Mobile just before coming to Verizon and was looking into upgrading to HTC's new phone over there instead of changing carriers. I checked out the Hero and Samsung's Android phone with Sprint. I was a dedicated and loyal Blackberry user for 5+ years defending and promoting their devices, working on software development within TMO, and went through direct RIM training on BES, BIS, their handheld sw, and thier hw configurations.
SO - does anyone know or has heard anything about Verizon offering us a way to move to the Incredible?

This is probably in the wrong section since it has nothing to do with dev.
What is wrong with the Eris that it requires mass replacement?
I have heard of a few isolated cases where people had been offered an upgrade to the Incredible, but its probably the squeaky wheel getting the grease and someone trying to get the customer out of their face in the Verizon store.

Absolutely!! Wait until the end of your 2 year, or cough up about $500. The Eris really dont seem to have as many of the issues that other phones have had in the past. I havent had any problems with mine on 1.5, root 2.1 or any of the other roms I've tried.

Yep, say what you want about it. But its hands down the BEST phone I've ever owned, and I've had a cell phone plan since 1997.
A little root, a little OC, and a custom ROM. What more could you want?

I see you posted this exact same thing on android forums. Being a tech for VZW, we haven't seen a huge influx of calls or tickets about any particular issue; but i'm also not denying the fact that there are some common bugs that people are seeing but it's not near as many as it appears. Any software problems will most likely be corrected in a MR as is the general practice.

Danimal, can you drop a few more details on the bugs. My wife has an eris and has been pretty frustrated by dropped calls, lockups and blank screens ever since the 2.1 Ota hit her phone (not rooted). She's called support several times, The techs have been pretty decent, but it's still not fixed. The last guy she talked to actually suggested that she try rooting and overclocking.

I haven't had any problems at all on my eris and I'm using leaked v3. My girlfriend has the same phone (ota 2.1) and she complains about the phone randomly calling people but I think she just doesn't put the lock on. Other than that its the best phone I've ever had. Can't wait for my upgrade though and get that moto phone with a 2ghz processor they are coming out with.

I'd like to know what Motorola phone that is with a 2ghz processor. Maybe your talking about the motorola extreme?

I think that's it. Not 100% on the name. Anyways, insanely fast for a phone. Lets see apple compete with that.

Nah, there has been no official announcement of any 2 Ghz phone. The Droid X or Extreme is like a regular Droid minus the keyboard plus some steroids. Moto's CEO or whoever said it, said he would love to ship a 2 Ghz phone by the end of the year. Who knows if it is realistic, I don't think it is. First someone needs to ship a phone with the snapdragon 1.5 Ghz dual-core processor that's already out, then go from there.

There have been MANY complaints about a sound problem with the ERIS and I am one of those poor soles. The sound on my ERIS just stops working at random. Can't hear it ring when someone calls me, when I make a call i can't hear it ringing.. they will answer but I can't hear them speaking, also it has incredibly low media sound volume. If I reboot the phone it will work for a short time then mess up again. This problem is posted all over the Android Forums. Some people have no problems with the sound. It may be a bad batch? I have spoken to Verizon tech support several times and they are letting me get a new phone.. hopfully that will solve the problem??

So if I get this straight...
This post is about exploiting the problems with the eris to get a free upgrade to the Incredible...
Sounds a little wrong to me....
But if you get a free Incredible out of it...
Worth it?
I guess I wouldn't mind.

I would try using a task manager of some kind or another. Advanced Task Killer or Task Panel are good in my book. You can setup certain apps on an auto kill list , and ignore list. That helped mine out, but from my understanding is that There were a fews issues that did come up after the OTA. You can try rooting the phone, but if you don't know what you are doing you can cause more problems than it's worth. I would try using a task manager, and get rid of some apps that have duplicate functions.

My girlfriends blew her speaker on her eris but I think that was just from listening to pandora on full blast constantly.

I would not use any task managers on Android, they adversely effect system performance. See the following link for more detailed information on why: http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/

Exploit? No ... Get my Wife a Smartphone that works, Yes!
But I'm only speaking for me, not the OP.

I had this issue and they gave me a refurbished Eris on the spot. I wouldn't hold your breath for a D2, haha.
I had a total of 5 Eris phones - the last two had hardware issues (bad volume rocker, broken speaker) - I very calmly requested some sort of replacement phone as I had tried so many of the Eris with no luck - the operator I got was very helpful - I asked if the Droid 1 was a candidate, thinking that since it has been discontinued they would have some refurbs in stock - when she looked for it, she came up with a Droid 2 - they had to send the battery & back separately, but I'm pretty sure the phone itself was new (no refurb date sticker on the back) - she knew there were a lot of issues with the Eris, and again I wasn't angry or combative with he and all worked out -I am due for my New Every Two upgrade this month, but wasn't really set on which phone I wanted (x is huge, incredible seems less well built and maybe old news) - funny I never considered the Droid 2 as a candidate, but his thing is really nice - don't overlook it when considering your next phone - I may end up keeping it for a while until the next round of Android phones hits VZW -

I went round and round with verizon all night about this stupid crap with silent calls my last eris gets them all the time. So I finally called in complained tech support wanted to t/s with stuff I've already done factory reset reboot. Guy told me he could send out another eris that was double checked blah blah blah. I asked if there was anything else that could be done because I have already read up and its a common problem I've found online after the Eris received the 2.1 update. He wouldnt do anything else after pleading my case said there were no other refurbs.
So I got of the phone with him and called back and got over to a retention agent told them I was going to cancel my plans because the last person did not help etc. She was polite and acted like she was helping when in reality I think she just put me on hold hoping I would hang up at one point I was on hold for over 7 minutes without her coming back. She came back and gave me a pity story on how she wished she could send out another phone like the incredible or droid 2 but they just dont have all the parts and it would be to hard to find. She acted like should would be packing the damn box which I know is not the case. I asked if it was possible they had a first Gen Moto droid and she said they no longer carry those because they are getting ready to be discontinued as well.
So last thing I did was send a pretty long email to verizon hoping to hear back some time this morning will post the results. Its crazy they act like the silent bug and trackball scrolling are not issues when I have read about it multiple times throughout other forums and even have owned 2 phones with trackball scrolling issue. My newest phone will even some how type letters when its laid face down or face up on most surfaces.

thats weird , i called cause i was haven issues and i talked them into just renewing my contract and got a droid x and i had a yr left on my contract
So you guys, Tazz and Jack, still had to pay a discounted price for this replacement right? Not just given to you out of the goodness of Verizon's heart?
I think it depends on who you get on the phone with. I am on phone number 5 now. The previous phone came bad out of the box and the previous 3 all had the mute call problem. When I called to get this one I asked very politely if there was any way I could get a different phone since the Eris, while a great phone when it works, has been plagued with too many hardware issues. The tech I was speaking to got very rude with me and told me flat out that the only (he pretty much yelled when he said that word) options I had were to either accept a refurb Eris or pay for a brand new phone at retail price.
I figured I got someone who has dealt with a lot of folks trying to get a new phone by complaining about device defects so I just let it slide. My supervisor, on the other hand, called in when his started randomly rebooting and they sent him out a Droid Incredible. First phone replacement and he gets an upgrade.
The sad part is that this phone is now starting to have the trackball issue. Fun stuff, huh?

I didn't have to pay a thing - they swapped out the phones and I still preserved my New Every Two upgrade for later - I do pay the $1.99 extra per month for the extended warranty - don't know if that's why i didn't have to pay anything - it seems like you get a little further with a lower key approach instead of the loud, you owe me approach - I do believe that the operator you get does help determine how they'll handle the problem - I've always had pretty good luck with them -
Hmm I paid that 2.99 a month warranty with my last phone, vastly inferior LG Dare lol, and had to deal with a separate company named Asurion(sp?). After paying that stupid charge for over a year, they were still very reluctant to send me any kind of upgraded phone. So I didn't purchase it with this phone.
Anyway enjoy the greener pastures, Droid 2 looks pretty sweet.
Yeah I tried calling Verizon and getting a replacement for my Eris (I have silent bug and broken trackball). But all they would offer me was another Eris. When I got tech support and I told him a couple of my friends which had Eris' with problems got incredibles and D2's as replacements for free, explained that that's a lie and they probably used they're new every two because Verizon doesn't just do that. Then when I talked to a customer service operator and told her the same story she explained that, that may have happened if the tech support was out of Eris'.
So I'm thinking its just who you get from tech support, luck of the draw that they're out of Eris', and it may help if you've received a couple replacement Eris' and continued yo have issues.

I think for the most part verizon is full of crap when it comes to replacing phones. I pay 200 dollars a month and they wont even send out a moto droid first gen. I was talking to a retention agent and they were like well I would like to send out an incredible or droid 2 but we just dont have all the parts some dont have backs or batterys others dont have chargers. Weird thing was I had said nothing about wanting a newer phone at all. All I had said I would like to continue on with the android exp. I will take anyphone but the eris of course I was hoping they didnt offer the ally. I was pretty polite on the phone just getting the same story everyone I have talked to is doing pretty well when it comes to sticking to their guns currently.
Hey boys,
just got off the phone with verizon and they gave me a new droid 2 for free, but I just went through four erises in the last 3 days and the last one has a battery drain issue so they are overnighting it to me.
I just wanna thank kaos for his awesome froyo rom, since that is what got me started on rooting my phone in the first place.

Sending in another Eris, help convincing verizon???

So i went and talked to verizon about my defective eris, they took a look at it. Sent me a new one. Now i havent even got to send back my first one and the new one is having the same problem....
Its got the trackball bug, scrolling to the left. Now seeing as this only happens when i NEED to use my phone im assuming when i take it in it's going to make me look stupid in front of verizon. Now is there anything i can do to convince them this one is defective and i need a new phone??? Preferably a phone that isnt the Eris?
I don't think so man. Everyone has had different experiences, some good some bad. You just have to find the right Verizon rep apparently. Try to be polite but ask to speak to a supervisor. Talk about switching to AT&T if you get another Eris. Talk about the Eris being defective and how many people you know with trackball problems. There is some poor soul on here who is on his 6th or 7th Eris so don't feel too bad if it doesn't work. Let us know how it goes.

I'm on my third and almost sent that one back in as the usb port is screwed up. I've heard of people getting offered a different phone on the fourth one but also of people on their fifth Eris. So I have no clue how to get a different phone, I asked the last time but got a no. But was told in December I could do an early upgrade, 1 year into a 2 year contract.

The trackball issue is due to the USB being too close to the track ball on the pcb. Basically when the usb cable is jiggled, you may recover trackball usage. It is just a design flaw. My trackball is only operable when you make it worse by ****ing with it but generally the problem is inevitable. The new phone you got is actually a refurb that verizon failed at testing. You may even be able to use this consistency to get discounts, credits, etc for a new droid 2 or something.
I had that issue, it wasn't a problem. I told them it happened occasionally.
When i had my enV1 it had battery issues, on my 4th they gave me the enV2.
Push the issue, but be nice.
Just say, I wish there was a phone *ahem*dinc*ahem* that was similar in formfactor as my eris but had a way of inputting that didn't use a ball. *ahem*dinc*ahem*
dinc??????????
I think dinc is a Droid Incredible.
Well they called it a dinc on Android forums and figured that was sort of a standard in the community.

Problem solved question answered! Thanks. ****MODS PLEASE CLOSE****

I have been having some issues with my fascinate ever since I had to swap out ESN'S to get my signal back. It seems like I've been missing alot of calls. I have been dealing with the issues without much complaint.
Today my wife called me 3X and my phone didnt even ring 1X. I decided it was time to call verizon.
The rep I spoke to gave me 2 choices for a replacement. The choices are a DROID X2 and DROID INCREDIBLE 2 or another fascinate.
My question is which phone should I take Droid X2, Droid Incredible 2 or another fascinate. Thanks all!

I think either would be good choices to be honest. I am curious though, how did you convince the rep to give you one of the newer phones? I would like to take advantage of this.

I didnt, I simply told her what was going on with my phone and those were my choices for replacement. I told her I wanted another samsung phone in hopes that she would spit back the charge but she spit back a refurbished fascinate. She said the choices were not hers. I was given the option of Droid X2, Incredible 2, or Charge.
Although I would like charge due to 4G, it doesnt seem like there are a lot of devs there. (At least compared to Fascinate)
I would only think of taking the Charge, the Fascinate beats out the Dinc2 and X2 IMO... went into a vz store today and the guy there told me that they know about the Fascinate issues and there is a big "update" coming at the end of the month, whether this is gingerbread or a froyo patch he didn't know... as for a new phone he said they are absolutely not supposed to offer anything but another Fascinate or MAYBE a Dinc2

Would you recommend a Charge instead of a Fascinate?
Also to people having trouble with getting verizon store employee to change your phone, here is something from their forum.
On 7-8-11, Verizon Wireless implemented a POLICY on the Fascinate. Whenever a new policy comes along, all 80,000+ employees are not going to be aware of it immediately. Not that it's excusable, but it happens from time to time.
If you go to a Verizon Wireless CORPORATE store, and they are unfamiliar with the process, I will post info to guide them on the new policy. I cannot post the policy because I could get canned, but I can post how to get to the policy.
Where is this policy? There are 2 ways to get there:
1) Open up InfoManager. In the search box, type in: "Samsung Fascinate Not Receiving Calls." This will bring up several search results. It's the first result that shows up.
2) There is an OST article number for this information. The OST that can also be typed in the Infomanager search box is 70946. This will bring up several search results as well. It's the first option.
Things to note: This missed call issue is intermittent.
**There is no fix for it. It can't be master reset, updated with new software (at this time), battery pulled, *228 update, or network troubleshot. It does NOT need to be duplicated in-store for a replacement as it is intermittent. Sometimes it happens. Sometimes it doesn't. When it's a known intermittent issue, we should NOT need to duplicate it in the store. **

as for the charge as a replacement...if you live in a 4g area or are soon to get 4g, then yes
if not, then from a development stand point, no i wouldnt
I just got my device replaced with a Dinc 2. I feel that 4" is the perfect screen size. I am just really hoping I don't get one that has Gingerbread on it, because the S-Off exploit has been patched with the update.
The nice thing is that this doesn't renew your contract. So when it is up, you are still able to upgrade. I am actually able to upgrade right now (main line on a family share plan) but am holding off until some more phones (and hopefully the new Nexus, but I'm not holding my breath) come out

They still sell them, so I wouldn't think you will have a problem getting another Fascinate. It's good to hear that you will be keeping it for awhile longer (or at least until/if the Galaxy S II comes to VZW), as you and only a handful of other people are huge assets to the Fascinate community
Same dilemma for me. My account has notes allowing me to get Charge, DX2 or DI2 without any arguing (thanks to Mike from vzw forums) but yesterday I played a little bit with Charge and I didn't like it. It's too bulky and physical buttons instead of touch keys is no go for me. 4G speeds are tempting though. I think I will wait some more for fix.
Does anyone have the number I could call to get this replacement? My fascinate has been rebooting constantly, locking up, and not ringing during calls.

Hey Justin, just to give you a little update. I just left the VZW. No more fascinates for exchange, so I was told either a dinc2 or a X2 after a little bit of belly aching I am getting a refurbished Charge. I didnt even have to change my data plan im still at $30 unlimited. Should be here next week. Thanks for your advice....

seems to be its hit or miss on whether they have fascinates or not for replacement
my concern is i know im going to get the sgs2 (or equavilent) when it launches (hopefully within 2 months) so i dont feel the need or desire to get something radically different....as i cant own a device and not work on it
and the charge doesnt appeal to me for a few reasons as i dont have 4g and i really doubt i lack the ability to port all of the com rom stuff to it on my own w/o way too much effort (just to ultimately fail)...and dont want to use anyone elses roms (unless aosp was more imminent)
the dx2 isnt happening either (locked phone, no development)
the dinc2 would be appealing only for the use of aosp in the meantime and id be able to resell it and cover the cost of my next on contract phone easily
honestly the only phone id really take as a replacement besides another i500 would be the thunderbolt...despite my misgivings about the phone and its issues i could at least use bamf roms or aosp and still (probably) cover next phone with resale
/end rambling

So did you bring your Fascinate back to stock before you went in the store? i usually try to not go in to the store b/c most of them people are morons.
If it helps,
My wife has the Dinc2 and LOVES it. She is not in to modding at all, so the fact that limited dev support is not a big deal. She went from a D2G to the Dinc2 so she's never really had a dev supported phone.
A friend of mine has a Dx2 and says the dual core processor doesnt quite make up for having stock running.. While quadrant doesnt mean jack for the most part, he gets around 1600 and my fascinate breaks 2k on CM7.
The charge is a phone i wouldn't mind having.. i would consider trading my fascinate for a charge, but the phone im really waiting for (and hoping actually comes to the US) is Galaxy S II.

Yeah, at first they told me I could get anothet fassy, then when I went to store they said it was no longer available for warranty replacement. Not sure what happened in the 4 hours between. I chose the charge for a few reasons but in the end It really doesnt matter my contact is up in 5months so at the very least I got a new toy to play with til then. Im sure ill be able to sell it and recoup more than my fascinate would fetch when the time comes especially to someone who doesnt want to lose their unlimited data plan... Thanks again

I went on Tuesday to our corporate store with mine (flashed unrooted stock Froyo Odin first) and they overnighted me a replacement.
I wonder if this one has problems if they will offer a different model. I really like my fassy...

[Q] Rezound problems with call quality, advice please?

I got my rezound on Dec 3rd at Amazon Wireless during that 1 cent sale.
The first one had some issues, so since then I've had 1 replacement.
I know its past the date of no return, but curious what my options would be, and what you guys think I should do.
People constantly complain that my voice is cut off often, and/or muddled, yet the always sound good to me. At this point i'm thinking its a signal issue. I have the extended battery and this problem gets worse when i'm using it.
So, tonight the fiance tells me that my phone is low, to speak up, blah blah. Well I am speaking up and its frustrating. These are issues that one shouldnt have to deal with on a new device.
My previous phones: Motorola Rokr (I think), LG Chocolate, Motorola Droid, and the HTC Incredible didnt know exhibit these issues at all, and I never once had anyone complain in the last 5 years till I got the HTC Rezound.
I'm holding the phone in multiple ways, making sure not to cover any holes.
What would you do? Is the only thing I have available to me is going through Amazon Wireless for a refurb? Or is this a build quality that I will experience again and again. BTW, I live in a city, with excellent 4g coverage, and I know a neighbor has a new Moto Razr with 0 issues, and he rubs it in quite often.
Thanks for any advice you have to offer.
Update: Well I got my Razr Maxx and have played with it a few hours. Anything I say is just my opinion, so don't shoot me.
The Maxx's call quality is better, and the callers said I sound much more clearer than any of my other phones (Chocolate Touch, Incredible, Rezound). I'm getting a bit better signal (dbm) here at my place, but I care about the quality of my calls and my data connection the most, and they are doing fine.
The camera isnt as bad as ive been reading in the reviews. The pictures i've taken are lacking a tad bit of sharpness that the Rezound had. This could be fixed via a 3rd party app. Will look into it.
The UI is about as smooth. But the wallpaper in Motoblur scrolls with the screen and it still keeps the smoothness. I installed Go Launcher EX and its as smooth as the incredible for me. On the Rezound Go launcher was fairly blah performance wise.
Smart actions rock. I usually use Tasker and smart actions does enough that I won't be loading tasker until I see a need.
The display, well, nothing beats the Rezounds display. HD movies on the Maxx are decent, but not as sharp as the Rezound. I believe the Rezound has 90 PPI or so on the Maxx and you can tell.
The speaker for music sounds decent, with a bit more bass (on a speaker that small, not sure you want to call it bass), and sounds pretty good.
Battery Life is great, but with a 3300 mah battery, what do you expect. I already set a smartaction for 12:30am to 7:00am to turn off wifi, data, turn on airplane mode (wasnt sure if airplane on this phone would disable wifi), and a few other things. Good stuff, but nothing that a third party can't do.
Motoblur seems to have apps to do Remote Desktop, and DLNA works fine with my WDLIVEPLUS box.
I've already rooted, and froze some Verizon Apps.
I know this is a Rezound forum and you are probably asking "Why is he talking about a dang Maxx?!" A few pm'ed me to just compare the two phones once I got it. I won't be doing a review or anything
i'd check to make sure the antenna contacts on the extended battery cover are making a secure connection with the phone. possibly try applying a slight amount of electrical grease to each contact.
Update: I'm on my third Rezound now, and all have had the problem with my voice periodically not being heard or muffled to the person I am calling.
I'm baffled as to why I am having these issues.
A customer service rep actually advised me to activate my old Incredible on my line (and give up my unlimited 4g) until HTC has a fix for my problems. Yea right.
I wrote a long letter to Verizon, and if I don't hear back from them today I'll be contacting Corporate.
I'll try to get into another phone I suppose, but I don't like my choices: GNexus (crappy signal), Razr (crappy battery). There is the Razr Maxx, but I'm sure they wont even offer to replace me with that.
*Sigh*

Yes, I did the OTA on two of the replacement phones. I still had the problem before and after. Thanks for looking out though.
Yet another update: I talked to verizon support again about my Rezound and the issues. They offered me a Thunderbolt, Charge, Bionic, or a Revolution.
I told them that I would take no less than a Nexus or Droid Maxx at this point. He said that those phones are not on his list. The phones he offered are a big step down from the Rezound, so I declined. Not sure what to do at this point, but I did ask him to escalate this (he was a supervisor) and he put in a ticket to have it escalated.
If anyone ever has any advice regarding my situation, please feel free to chime in.
I'll post as my saga continues, even though I'm sure no one really cares
Hmmm. I'm interested. My wife says I sound muffled at times when I'm on the rezound. I never thought of it as an actual phone issue.
My experience with this is
1. Seems to be when I'm on speaker.
2. Never happens when I'm using ear piece.
3. Updated radio and it since hasn't happened but once when on speaker.
Good luck!

You could be experiencing similiar hardware issues, or possibly something to do with the noise canceling microphone. I wish you luck though since I know this muffled sound problem can be annoying, but at least i'm not alone (although i've only heard of 2 other people with similar issues).
Feb 3rd Update: Talked to Verizon yet again about my muffled sound issues. I received an email from HTC today asking me to have Verizon re-provision my account, update my prl (i was on 15098 and Verizon updated me to the same 15098), and to try a new sim card.
None of the fixes have worked. The Verizon tech called my phone as a test and within 10 seconds it started happening. I made her away of my escalation call from last night, and she said it could take a week or so for a return call since the escalation would involve a Director of something.
She credited my account $50 for my issues thus far, and is going to call me back at the end of the day as a follow-up.
*Sign* The Saga continues, but I want a plot twist where I can a working phone that I don't have to forward calls to my third line. (at least my old LG Chocolate Touch still works fine).
Really, dumb question.. are you holding the phone to far up your face. What I mean, I came from the OG droid and it was much smaller phone so when I started using the Rezound I thought the sound was way to low, people couldn't hear me ..etc.. I found I was holding the phone to high on my face so the speakers were above my ear and my microphone was almost by my upper lip. I adjusted how I held the phone and haven't had any issues since.

I have tried holding the phone in multiple different ways. I have to admit, I feel stupid having to try holding it different ways since its a...well...phone.
I've recorded my own calls to myself via google voice to test it out, and the 'muddled' issue happens via speaker, or a normal call. I have even held the phone 2 inches in front of my mouth directly and callers will still complain of not being able to hear me or understand me. I have also tested different things like putting my finger over the noise canceling microphone with no change in my problems.
Thanks for the question though. I'm convinced that i've been subjected to Gamma Radiation without my knowledge and thats why i'm having phone issues. In that case, I hope that Verizon fixes this soon with a resolution or a different phone, because they wont like me when i'm angry.
Both of mine have done this, before and after the OTA.
This is the problem when phone companies are so crazy about getting the latest and greatest out the door to beat the competition. All they care about are sales. As long as it is working 90%, just push it out the door, and by the time people are pissed off you will be selling the next phone.
These phones don't get much QC testing, that much is certain. How many of the issues over the years would have been obvious if someone actually just carried the phone around and used it for just a single day? Most of them, I wager.

Don't think this has been mentioned or not, but have you tried talking through a bluetooth? Just curious. That would rule out a mic issue if it still persists even talking through bluetooth. Then I would say you are having network issues?
Good luck

I can say that I have talked on bluetooth about 10%-15% of the time and I don't get complaints. Then again my phone sits in one spot, and maintains signal better? The reason I did not test this thoroughly is because the option of talking on bluetooth only well isnt an option.
I know that is not what you were hinting at, but I feel its a device issue and not a network, but don't quote me on that.

You are had two do this? So you know my pain!
Do you still have the phone and does it still do it?
I agree totally that these phones don't get tested enough and are sent out the door. At this point honestly, despite how much I love the phone, I'd rather have something else.
I told them I don't want another 3-4 phones sent to me. I'm really pushing for a new handset at this point, a different brand totally.
Anyway I wish you luck also. I'll keep this thread updated so that other's like myself (that are beyond the return window wherever you bought it) can hear about my trials and tribulations.
Finale: After over a dozen calls and 7+ hours on the phone with verizon, along with sending out emails to the CEO, Regional Manager, Relations, and all major executives, I received a call today from one.
To make this short, Razr Maxx is on the way, and will be here this week. Verizon Wireless could of made this easier, instead of making unrealistic guidelines for some customer issues.
When I was with Alltel I swear I would of had such an easier time with the customer service. I do not ever remember having to jump through hoops just to come to an agreement.
For any following my plight, Thanks for reading and for the helpful pms.
Good luck with your new phone.
Post back how you like it, I'm honestly curious.
I have two coworkers that have the original RAZR and absolutely hate them, but one of their main complaints is the awful battery life on a battery you can't swap out.

I'm a network admin and have a few guys at work that have a razr maxx, a nexus, and a revolution.
They usually say that the maxx has done the best for signal in and about different buildings (on server platforms with a ton of computer equipment etc). They said with generous use of the Smart Actions feature, and with generous moderate use, they get 2 days. They always seem to have a phone in their hand (they say) so im not sure what moderate use is to them (all network engineers etc). The nexus guy says his battery is gone before 5, and he often cant make calls in these random buildings. The lg revolution guy says he hates his signal and battery life, and that lg is taking forever with update and fixes.
Of course user experiences differ from person to person, so I too am curious on how the Maxx will fare with me. I'm extremely critical on my phones, and a very moderate use person (1+hours a day in calls, facebook &twitter updated every 15, emails pushed, streaming music 1-2 hours a day, games 1+hours a day, etc).
Look for a comparison here after ive had it a day or two, and will compare it to the 2+months that i've had the Rezound.
I updated the OP with my few hours of experience with my Maxx (the replacement for my 3 Rezounds).

Am I doing something wrong???

Am I doing something wrong???
If my phone isn't getting the sleep of death, it's keyboard lockups, call dialing delays, random restarts, soft bricks and being completely unresponsive...
I think I might buy a Palm Pixy or some other phone, what do you suggest???
I am rooted, but I never had any issues like this on my Droid X with nearly the same apps...
I'm getting fed up. I might switch to the SGII. I'm a big Motorola fan, but I'm really fed up.
If you guys give me any suggestions, let me know...
Sometimes I can't use this phone in an emergency... The other day I need to make an emergency call. I press send, and then the phone restarts...
I can't even listen to music in peace without a random restart... Maybe I'll get an iPod Touch....

Seriously...what are you doing to your phone...I don't how many you've gone through..like 5? It doesn't make ANY sense..no mass-produced product is THAT bad...QC probably accounts for .001% defects or less in a million...You should probably wipe your phone, factory reset it, SBF to stock, and switch it for SGS2 or Galaxy Nexus when it comes out.
If you look at my "Embrassed by Photon" thread, I am having issues that I have learned to live with BUT, I also had the Emergency phone call issue and could not use it.
Holding out for Samsung Galaxy Note!

dont think my POS Samsung Moment was that bad
Best bet is to go back to bone stock and run it for a while. If you have the same issues then it could most likely be your device.
What rom are you running? IMO cybiks cm7 and jokers 1.3 is the best combo. I have never had a random reboot once I got my undervolting levels tweaked right. It ran perfectly fine at the default voltages and I wanted to extend my battery life a bit.
You could also have a app that is going awry causing your device to overheat and seize.
Sent from my MoPho. All typos are the phones fault.
Yeah man, you are really screwing up somewhere. Everyone I have ever met in person with a Photon raves about how awesome it is.
I actually talked to a guy in line at the store the other day who had one - I noticed our oddly shaped device in a otter box on his hip and asked if it was Electrify or Photon (We Tennesseans tend to randomly chat with total strangers, like they are old pals.) - it was a Photon, he loved it.
I told him, if he wanted to love it more, read about Rooting and Roms. I wonder how that turned out for him.
I'm running pure stock and rooted. I rave about my Photon when it works right, trust me, it's awesome... Maybe my apps conflict with this device??? Cuz I never had any issues like this on my Droid X... I'm a huge Motorola fan, I don't want to leave you guys!!! Maybe I'll switch to a new device, but I will still be around, no matter what...
As for the Galaxy Nexus, other than LTE, and NFC, and ICS, the Photon beats it right out of the water!!!
I don't know if this is pure bad luck.... My apps nust conflict with the device.... I was running great with no issues until I installed avast! security... and for what avast! does, I'll take the repercussion of random reboots, if that is even the app causing random reboots....

In my personal experience, it is the best antivirus and theft security application there is, but I am not sure that avast! is the issue, I'll uninstall it for a week and see if it stops... But, I have posted about 3 or 4 threads ranting about how this phone doesn't work sometimes.... I'm waiting for an LTE device that has 1080p, WiMax, and the specs our Photon with Tegra 3...

Again, I'm putting the phone back to Sprint Stock with a handful of my most common and trusted app's (BofA, Credit Union, MSNBC, Pandora and a few games) It's likely some s**t I put on it so I blame myself, not the phone.
Like I said, at the end of the day, its a phone. I could not call my boss for something the other day. It was freezing, then it went into bootstrap recovery.....by the time I removed OtterBox and battery, I was pissed (Matter fact, now I remember, It was 4:15AM Saturday!!!! I got pisssed because I had to get up off my a** and come in here!!)
Anyway, #1. Im 100% sure it's me, not Photon. #2. I'm still going for the Galaxy Note! The spec's on the Note are outrageous!!

Antivirus on android is pointless unless you use a pirated apps/market. The "sky is falling" articles about infection rates on android devices never give you actual numbers just "Up 427 Percent" Tom's Guide. If the original infection rate is 500 devices worldwide, even with a 400% increase you still have a greater chance of getting struck by lightning.
There are a couple of locate/remote wipe apps available on the market that do not include antivirus. That would be a better choice unless you are using pirated apps/market.
Here a simple troubleshooting guide to follow. It's not much fun but should eliminate a number of possible causes of the issues you are having.
Factory rest via settings
Flash stock SBF (do not root or unlock)
Do not install any apps for 24hrs to see if problem persists (if no then goto 4, if yes then replace device)
Install only one app a day and see if problem shows up. If so, start over. This time eliminate the suspect app from the list.
I run into this a number of times when servicing phones and very rarely does the issue show up again when the process is followed. It generally tends to be app conflicts or an app update is buggy.
I realize that it's probably my fault. And I blame the phone for not being able to handle the apps like my Droid X, that's all.
One more thing, there are a few virus apps on the market... I've run into a few...
