Ok so I am aware that as of now there is no rollback from the leaked 2.1 to the original 1.5...I haven't seen anyone ask and I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section of the forum...my question is, is there anyway to just completely wipe the phone and reinstall with an image of 1.5. At this point my problems with 2.1 outweigh my want to retain my apps and what not. To reiterate I do not care about losing the information on my phone I just want 1.5 back, is there anyway at all to do this??? I can always reactivate and get my apps back.
if you're on a leak.. you already answered you own question. NO
if you're on OTA 2.1, yes you should be able to roll back to 1.5, I was.
your suggested method is a rollback
Sent from my Eris using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
I am pretty sure that this has been tried before... In fact Jemezelle (is that the right spelling?) has been trying everything they can think of to fix the issue at hand, and has had no avail.
The issue is that the bootloader was updated when you installed the leak, and that is what is preventing you from rolling back or reinstalling the 1.5 image or the root image.
What they are trying to do is reload the old bootloader to set everyone who has leak up for rooting or rolling back the phone.
how about this. im sure this is impossible but could we somehow wipe EVERTHING including Android os and the bootloader and start over again from scratch?

No, this is not possible.... if it were everyone on leak would have root at this point.
Ok so I know that this phone had to be blank at one point in time. As in there was no software on it at all. There has to be a way to return it to that state to reload any software you want on it. Maybe it would be an HTC internal program. Because they wipe them and reflash them all the time to refurbish them.

I used to have the leaked 2.1 on my Eris. I had the 3rd leak and went to the Verizon store after the 2.1 OTA came out and complained because I didn't have any audio output from my handset or speaker. They just gave me a replacement with 1.5 on it cause I told them that the OTA update to 2.1 was what caused the problem. I suggest trying to do that. Good luck.

I can't say that I haven't done something like that myself. I figure, as long as the phone is in good condition, then that is the big deal, they can still sell it, and I have a phone that I can actually work with. Not only that, he might have actually had audio problems.. Which would normally be covered under the warranty.

It wasn't fraud. The 3rd leak is supposedly the same as the OTA. And my audio wouldn't work. Couldn't listen to music through the 3.5mm jack or the speaker, and I didn't get any sound when in calls. I had to reboot my phone every time I wanted to make a call.
is there a way i could cough short out cough my 3.5 mm jack so i could get a new phone?
1. Get an extension cord.
2. Cut cord in half, exposing bare wires.
3. Plug cord into electrical outlet.
4. While holding your phone, insert energized bare wires into phone's audio lack.
5. Profit!!

Sir, that there, sir, is fraud. should not be posted in these forums, against the law, and against forum policy.
Wow ECLIPSE3 you got like no sense of humor. I would have to guess that was a joke. What idiot would run 110 volts of current through their phone. You need to lighten up Mr. High and mighty. And anyone that would try that make sure you got some good health insurance cause your going to get fried. But also I heard it works real good if you stand in a tub full of water when you do it. LMFAO
but really don't damage your phone to try to get a new one. It's an Eris give it time it will brick on its own. Ha

I think Eclipse was being sarcastic. FFS...
actually, i was being blunt. that is fraud to knowingly do that to a company or person. it actually is against the law. and talking about fraud is actually against forum policy.
I run a fine line between against the law, and walking the line. talk to me outside of the forums, and i will tell you all about it. talk to me in here, and i will follow the law, and forum policy, because it is what it is.
i do like a nice joke now and then, but when the user doesnt know when your joking about how to get a new phone, and actually giving him instructions, then that brings up a lot of questions. if you said something like "dont actually do this, as it could hurt yourself, and is against the law to defraud a company." that i would be find with that.
Thanks, and have a great day!

So i went and talked to verizon about my defective eris, they took a look at it. Sent me a new one. Now i havent even got to send back my first one and the new one is having the same problem....
Its got the trackball bug, scrolling to the left. Now seeing as this only happens when i NEED to use my phone im assuming when i take it in it's going to make me look stupid in front of verizon. Now is there anything i can do to convince them this one is defective and i need a new phone??? Preferably a phone that isnt the Eris?
I don't think so man. Everyone has had different experiences, some good some bad. You just have to find the right Verizon rep apparently. Try to be polite but ask to speak to a supervisor. Talk about switching to AT&T if you get another Eris. Talk about the Eris being defective and how many people you know with trackball problems. There is some poor soul on here who is on his 6th or 7th Eris so don't feel too bad if it doesn't work. Let us know how it goes.

I'm on my third and almost sent that one back in as the usb port is screwed up. I've heard of people getting offered a different phone on the fourth one but also of people on their fifth Eris. So I have no clue how to get a different phone, I asked the last time but got a no. But was told in December I could do an early upgrade, 1 year into a 2 year contract.

The trackball issue is due to the USB being too close to the track ball on the pcb. Basically when the usb cable is jiggled, you may recover trackball usage. It is just a design flaw. My trackball is only operable when you make it worse by ****ing with it but generally the problem is inevitable. The new phone you got is actually a refurb that verizon failed at testing. You may even be able to use this consistency to get discounts, credits, etc for a new droid 2 or something.
I had that issue, it wasn't a problem. I told them it happened occasionally.
When i had my enV1 it had battery issues, on my 4th they gave me the enV2.
Push the issue, but be nice.
Just say, I wish there was a phone *ahem*dinc*ahem* that was similar in formfactor as my eris but had a way of inputting that didn't use a ball. *ahem*dinc*ahem*
dinc??????????
I think dinc is a Droid Incredible.
Well they called it a dinc on Android forums and figured that was sort of a standard in the community.

Configuration:
I am running the stock 605.6 firmware and I am NOT rooted.
Here's the situation:
I have a tblot that has a jacked up USB port that will not function. I can't think of any way that I can root it without the USB cable.
I have tried adbWireless, but you have to be rooted.
I have tried (via terminal emulator on the tblot)
Code:
setprop service.adb.tcp.port 5555
stop adbd
start adbd
&& (on laptop)
Code:
adb connect 192.168.X.X:5555
but again, you have to be rooted to use setprop
Is there some "on device" or other non-USB method that I can use to root this thing?
how in the world do you charge your phone without a functioning usb port?
also, someone is probably going to say it. This post should probably be in the questions and answers threads section.
^_^_^
You could charge it other ways. Induction for one, docking station, or if you have to hack it, you could connect the battery directly to some usb wires. My old blackberry had a usb problem the last month or so I had it and I took an old usb cable, sliced it open and rigged up a cheap docking station with the power and ground cables in it so i could just touch the connectors (used for the dock on it) to the dock I made. Worked fine, though I don't easily see any similar way to do that on the thunderbolt unless you want to connect directly to the battery (not a good idea if you aren't careful since you could overcharge it easily without anything to tell you how full it is without putting it back or using a multimeter).
Why dont you use the 1 year warranty the phone comes with to get the usb port fixed? If not, you could probably solder a miniusb connector onto it in its place if you know someone with some electronic skills.
It would be great to have a one click app that does it all for you. But it's not available, yet. But if the udb is defective, why not do a warranty exchange?

You know you have adhd bad when you're the OP and you think your own thread is tl;dr
"Is there a way to root without USB?"
No, were not JailBreaking Iphones here, this is Android.
What could you possibly need root for sooooo bad that you can't wait like 4 days or less?
If you crave a look besides Sense so bad install a launcher for the time being.
I'm rooted and till Cyanogen gets up and running as stable. I really have no use for it in my everyday life. I work as a Technician and use my phone alot but not once do I say. OMG I don't have root how will I live!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lets be serious if this was possible it would be on the net and in Android news sites. Just like every other method that comes out is pretty much plastered all over the main page or some other Android news site.
With no viable reason or need I feel this thread is pointless and it should be closed.

jailbreaking iPhones require USB as well. Unless your still on the firmware that supports the iBooks exploit, then you can just go to a website (jailbreakme.com)
But you can't open SSH, unless you are jailbroken. That said, OP was wondering if there were any apps like z4 that would root the phone. None for the tbolt yet. Limera1n, Green P0ison, red snow, etc are tools used for iPhone jailbreak but they require USB.
MY SIMPLE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION
Question: Can I root with out USB working properly...
Answer: NO
You know you can adb over wifi
No, thats not a storm. Its just my Thunderbolt layin down this post.
I've just become aware of the new replacement program for problem Fascinates. I've been reading the forums but it wasn't completely clear EXACTLY what i need to do in order to be offered a replacement. I bought my Fascinate on eBay like 3 months ago (pre-rooted with a Blackhole ROM i believe) and while i do like it, it does have it's share of issues. i get the phantom button press a lot, GPS is VERY slow to lock at times, i occasionally get random voicemails from calls i didn't know i missed, my screen timeout setting is constantly changing back to 15 secs when i set it to 2 minutes, and MMS rarely works.
so yea, from what i've read so far, it seems like i'm prime for a replacement. but i need to know first off, do i need to flash a stock rom or will it not matter? will i need to take it in and prove it's not working because it only has these issues sometimes and i may not be able to replicate on the spot? also what exactly do i need to say (and who do i call) in order to prompt them to offer me a new device? thanks in advance for the help and i apologize if this is explained somewhere already. i've looked and it just seems to mostly be people talking about their new phones and not how they actually got them.
1. Go to Walmart.
2. Buy knee pads and lip gloss.
3. Go to Verizon.
4. Put on knee pads and a good amount of lip gloss.
5. By now you should know where this is going.

You may have a problem because you didn't get the phone directly from vzw & they can find that out. Also, they're getting hammered right now with people trying everything to get this deal whether they need it or not. Seems like they're becoming a little more stringent with their criteria. But I think the real problem for you is where you got the phone.

Ugh! I hope you get nothing. vzw knows YOU didn't buy the phone from them.
good day.
I wish I could tell you good news, but I've been down this road before. My hub bought a phone off ebay and found out something was wrong with it that same day it came in the mail. He went to Verizon and asked them if they could do anything and they said since he bought it from ebay they can't do anything. They are going to look into your account and know that you didn't get it from them, so I don't think you have any hopes at all getting it replaced.
You could however flash it back to stock and try...if you don't succeed...keep it stock and put it back on ebay. The fassy's are still selling for quite a bit and use that to purchase new phone.
well thanks for all the help. some people seem really offended but the only reason i even asked is because people on other forums said they traded in their eBay Fascinates and got the deal. i don't know if the warranty is transferable or not, but it's still been out less than a year and should be covered. also, there is no way they can tell i bought it on eBay either. the most they should be able to see is when i activated it and maybe track the ESN back to the original owner, still doesn't say i bought it on eBay. i didn't buy it directly from Verizon but the guy i bought it from did. people were even having success with phones bought from Best Buy.

Do you think it only has to be from an authorized retailer? I bought mine from Best Buy and they never even asked me where I got my phone. So maybe they can somehow tell if it was either bought from them OR an authorized dealer OR maybe the reps that I worked with didn't care.
They probably won't be doing swaps anymore because ED05 is official and ready.

i understand perfectly. and don't you think your being a little extreme? it's not like my phone doesn't have issues. it WAS bought from Verizon and it has a warranty. so I didn't personally buy it from Verizon but what the hell difference does it make? if it's messing up and under warranty, they should fix it or give me a replacement. did you even read my original post? i said what was wrong with the phone so it's not like i'm making stuff up, i just wanted to know what they were listening for in order to qualify for the upgrade replacement since i have more than one issue. don't make me out to be the bad guy, read on other forums where people are just saying they have issues to get the upgrade when their phones work fine. i even saw one story where a store manager encouraged someone to say they were missing calls to get a Charge for free when the guy said he was saving money to replace his Fascinate. so it really falls on the reps to do their jobs anyway since they are supposed to actually check for issues, so isn't it their fault if they don't? i ended up not even calling anyway, so get off your high horse guy.
and no, i don't think they can tell where i bought it. they can most likely tell where it was originally purchased and see when and where it was activated and deactivated but how can they possibly know more than that? stop spreading propaganda.

I love the holier than thou forum white knights. I swear you relative moralists leave no forum untouched with your auto-ego stroking.
Listen, everyone who owns a Fascinate and went through the OTA update process had the same issue with missed calls and texts. Furthermore, even custom ROMs (CM7 included) experienced this issue. Until now, there was no work around and not everyone is an XDA daily driver and knows that ED05 has been released. We all went through the exact same run around waiting for Froyo, I know I for one wasn't about to sit back and wait for this release to be pushed back 4-5 times. I took the free upgrade and I don't feel the least bit bad about it. I even posted the script that worked for me on the first try, because at the time ED05 had no firm release date and I feel like everyone pumping out $200 for a phone and $100+ a month deserves a product that won't cause them huge issues like the Fascinate caused for me. I lost thousands in sales because I missed calls and the Google Voice missed notification wouldn't show up for 15-20 minutes.
Bottom line is, don't try to crucify everyone that asks for help with this situation. Odds are they don't know about ED05 being released and they probably don't trust Samsung to get an update out on time because they never have. The only reason this one came so fast is because Verizon/Samsung were losing their asses on replacement costs.
TLDR: Don't be a ****.

If you think you can call Verizon and say your phone is defective and expect them to send you something different then it wont happen.
1. You bought the phone off eBay, thus you no longer have a one year manufacture warranty.
2. Without the manufacture warranty they cant send you a replacement phone.
3. Your best option is to see if you have an upgrade or go through your insurance and see what kind of phone they will send you. You never know sometimes they send you UPGRADED phones!
To the people WHO ACTUALLY GOT THERE PHONE THROUGH VERIZON. If you are within a year and your phone is "defective" then you can call them and make it clear that you have done a full factory reset and everything you try doesn't work. They will then send you a replacement, it might be the same phone or you might get lucky and get an upgraded phone.
I work for Verizon and I've had customers come in with a Droid and manufacture sent them a Droid Three.

I do not suggest the unbrickable mod unless you are extremely good with soldering and have eyes like a eagle. Id send it off to mobiletechvideos or Adam Outler for a professional debrick service. Ive been soldering since the 1970's and professionally since the 1990's for Qualcom and Intel and I decided not to offer this service after doing this mod to my phone and several customer phones. It is a very small working area and even with a 20x eye loop I found it just slightly to difficult to guarantee the work myself. Maybe its my old man eyes, but I would send it off to someone who has no problems performing this task on a daily basis... IMHO

On another topic, several years ago I found out I am diabetic and I now can not read text even on my 55" HDTV, although I am near sighted (and it seems like I am focusing ok when using the loop) I have a feeling it must be my eyes not allowing me to see it clearly. After testing and RMA repairing thousands of Qualcom GPS units back in the day, I am not accustomed to failing at something I was normally always was good at. I guess the last 10 years of not working in the electronics industry has made me rusty (2001 I changed professions). My baby brother got to witness this mod taking place on his Fascinate and his jaw nearly dropped, and he mods car computers as a hobby. Its not something 99% of users could do I wouldn't think.
P.S. I have 6 years straight of RMA surface mount repair work on the GPS units you find in the trucking industry (the first few generations in the mid 90's), not only did I solder 8 hours 5 days a week, I also had to clean out disgusting coffee crap and cigarette/cigar residue (and only God knows what else), LOL... But it was fun. I would clean the disassembled units in a commercial grade dishwasher machine (just for electronics) using only hot distilled water, and then dry bake them in an oven, re-assemble them with new screens/keyboards etc and then go to town testing/repairing what ever it was that got it sent in for the RMA in the first place. The work was not even close to the small size this phones pcb and components are though, lol... not even remotely... haha, I would need a Microscope to regain my confidence to regularly work on this PCB again...
A $7 IRON????? Jeez and I barely could do it with descent equipment
Ironically I developed far sight problems, my doctor said was because of the extended hours working with a microscope and my eyes started to become lazy to focus at far objects, however my near vision improve ??? go figure.

WAIT, WAIT LOOK AT THIS FIRST, ADAMS BEEN WORKING ON THIS FOR A LONG TIME, AND ITS LOOKING LEGIT TO BE ABLE TO DO AN UNSOLDERABLE JTAG!!!

To the OP, I really hate saying this but I just have to ask. What were you thinking Odining your phone without the battery cover on??? This is just asking for a hard brick... Now that I got that off my chest I want to say I feel your pain. As jrafael has stated you can debrick it yourself if you can solder. But, I would contact Adam Outler here in the XDA forums and ask him if he is still doing this service. Below is his Vibrant DeBrick thread...

I have to see it to believe it... this phone is getting more and more amazing
I can't thank you guys more for the responses.
I am trying them to see if I have any luck.

LMAO, I know it Bro!! It does seem a bit of a stretch, but I do respect Adams work in this area!
Especially since I myself once bricked my T959, by doing a KIES up-grade procedure, before I was warned by stumbling across a thread the next day after I made the fatal mistake, on the dangers of using KIES, Was dumb and newbee then!! = @#$%&* and even more cuss words! LOL
So anyways I've been looking and hoping for someone to be able to do what Adam says he's accomplished, and that is to be able to re-write corrupted primary and 2ndary Bootloaders W/O having to JTAG the traditional way!
But I'm not even disputing your word Bro, and I respect your contribution to this community as well. I'm still kinda lost as an Easter Egg with Linux, but I'm educating myself each week with it, so as to be able to perhaps execute a recovery if I brick my phone again, so I thought throwing that Post Link in by Adam might have some merit to it, and help this poor Guy out, I feel his pain, But like you I gotta wonder why he had the cover off, and had it set somewhere it would fall and unplug, etc!! Peace Bro!

I had the cover off because I was battery pulling because I was flashing MIUI, then ICS Passion v8 came along and i wanted to ODIN but was too lazy to put the cover back on. It was on my lap, i moved a bit and bam, it falls to the ground :/
thanks a bunch though, trying your thing first.
Good luck shawayne, I hope Santa is kind to you this year...
Still no luck sadly.... I think I am just going to have to sell it..

Sounds like your looking for an upgrade from the Vibrant. Why not just get it fixed? I think its only like $35 or along those lines to debrick it... might be wrong though...
I have just wasted so much money on phones its not even worth it anymore. I have a Samsung galaxy S2 Epic Touch which im thinking of using now. The vibrant was the best phone I have ever owned, and if its a free fix, i will stay with it, but I honestly do not want to spend over 20 more dollars.

O, I hear ya. Good luck with what ever you do. The Vibrant is still pulling in good money even for bricked ones, so good luck to you...
Hey I hear ya, stuff happens, and if were smart, it doesn't re-occur!! LOL
Anyways food for thought, If you actually get the boot-loaders re-flashed and your phone turns on, awesome job, congratulations!
BTW, the primary Bootldr is for powering the phone back on, and is the most important one, the 2ndary Bootldr does the instructions for loading the OS or as we call it the ROM.
OK also, bear in mind, this resurrection Adams got going is for either GB or ICS Roms, so what I'm pointing out is. If you do get it to turn on, after doing the Bootldr's.
Remember to load a ROM that is specific in build to either GB or ICS!!!!
Otherwise it might cause a big problem, because if the BL's are written for those type of builds, then it can only seem logical to me to re-flash from the start one of those two types.
If it powers back on, you can let it roll and see what happens or pull the battery before it begins to load the ROM that may be on it. Have ODIN or Heimdall set up with a GB or ICS based build, extract the TAR file from whatever flavor you choose, and then set it up, with re-partician, and the 512 pit, and tick reboot after flashing or keep it un-ticked, wait for the Green Pass indicator on ODIN etc, and then un plug it, and hold the power rocker until it turns on, your choice!!
At least then if it successfully boots up with that ROM, you have a working phone that you can tear back down and start where you want or move forward to NEO's ROM, which I recommend Passions V8 as you were attempting that before this ordeal happened! I've been running it all day, and so far 0 defects, despite all the chatter I've read about problems, which aren't occurring on my install.
I always wipe, both caches before I do the 1st re-boot after a ROM flash! Prevents alot of bootlooping and problems!!
Anyways good luck with all this, and Please inform me on whatever happened good/bad/or indifferent. As I need to know if this is a new frontier we've crossed here concerning the Vibrants, and Adams brain child program!
Hi All,
I just bought the Photon 4G day before night and am loving it
But I realized that camera is showing a black patch on the screen... Its there in the file even when i take snaps as well as record videos Its set there permanently (same spot). Its somewhat translucent.
Please can anyone help me out fixing it cause its disappointing me somewhat
I have attached few images to let you guys know how it looks..
Oh and I think I dont need to point out the location of this ****. Its at the same spot in all the three images. In the second pic below the androids right leg...
P.S. Tried resetting the phone to factory setting, tried removing the battery.. No warranty for the phone. Bought it from Ebay India. Its the USA Sprint phone..
If cleaning does not help guess you will need a new one.

I did try cleaning it. The glass is absolutely flawless. So the main sensor / chip is defective i guess. I came across people facing, if not the same, but similar issues with their Android phones. I am not sure.
I hope I see someone who could manage to fix it or I'm totally out of luck. Have to live with that ass forever lol. Hope it doesnt expand any more!!!
you already stated you cleaned it ,so I will not beat that dead horse. If I were a betting man (I'm not really) I would say you have one of two issues.
1. (and I hope its not this) that phone was dropped and something broke or cracked internally.
2. Someone took it apart and lint or dust got between the lenses. Good Luck.
Althought #1 is possible, everyone I know with high end Smartphone treats them like 2 month old babies!

I dont think it has fallen... Its absolutely without any scratches or anything anywhere.. ANd the mark looks like a tiny butterfly! lol which is kinda transparent. I tried manually makin some marks on the camera lens with a blue marker pen, but that doesnt look the same at all. it just brings a blue hue (ink color) on the image. You cant see it as a mark (spot like in this case)..
And I'd like to mention one more thing. This thing, when I zoom it to the next level, it moves to the left and when I zoom it even more, it gets off the screen! (outside)Funny!
And about the dust thing, I really doubt..
Looks like dust on the sensor cant do ne thing unless u dismantle the whole camera module.

Strange I must say. We have Digital Zoom, not Optical. Is your phone Rooted with stock ROM?
Have you tried shaking it to see if the spot will move ??

I agree with farookh. If this were an SLR, I would say dust on the sensor and give you pointers on how to clean it. Since the sensor is internal here, you probably need to return it and get a new one versus voiding any warranty by trying it yourself.

Read his original post last sentence. No warranty, he got it from E-Bay in India.
OK. Let me tell a trick as former sprint store manager. I just used this to replace my epic so I know it still works.
If you have to phone active on your account call technical support about the phone. Tell them you are calling because a Rep at the store instructed you to call and do a "advanced exchange" on your device. Tell tech support that the store couldn't fix it and didn't have a replacement phone for you. Say they wouldn't exchange for new device and gave u a hard time. It is important to sound like your very unhappy. If they mention insurance, say your phone didn't qualify because the phone suffered no damage, it is a manufacturer defect as told to you by the repair Rep.
They may attempt to ask you what store u went to. Cut them off and say sir, I am not dealing with store again. U going in circles and feel everyone is spinning u and don't want to replace phone.
They will process advanced exchange and you swap phones through mail. They will send new one and you ship back old one.

If its dust and we only have digital zoom, shouldn't the spot still remain even after zooming? why does it move outwards
And I noticed 1 more thing yesterday... When I focus the camera (specifically that point!!) towards the sun, the spot just dissolves in the light and is not visible... Same is the case when I point it towards some very bright source.

Its stock ROM. I tried using a couple of camera apps, but still no luck. The spot appears on all. Do these apps use the same module used by the Default camera App? If yes, is there a way to reinstall the module.

Motorola India told me that they cant help me as this phone hasnt released here. They have no hardware and software support. They want me to co-ordinate with Motorola USA.
And when I lookup my phone's IMEI on motorola, I see that it is under warranty till Oct 2012...
Do you think I can get a replacement being here in India. I have the box, the manual and the handset.
I would snail mail moto and get a RMA or something in writing.
