hey guys,
I'm thinking about buying a telus htc hero, for 300 dollars.I want to know should I wait and get htc legend?
Brand new? Used?
That works out to roughly £200 which is what I paid for an excellent conditioned GSM Hero about 5 months ago. I would only pay that now if it was ABSOLUTELY MINT condition. £170-£180 for a used, slightly scuffed one now I reckon.
it's 1 week old, so it's not brand new. legend isn't rooted yet, and hero is already. so, Not so sure about getting legend yet.
grab the nexus one man, do not get these phones... they are outdated and will not be getting 2.2!
I second above user: in my honest opinion, the Hero is underpowered for multitasking and running some of the better resource-intensive apps (heavy games, certain streaming apps etc).
With your budget, you might be able to afford a Nexus One. It's worth it even if you have to add a bit of cash to afford a model in good condition, seriously.
So yeah, I'd advise going for the N1...I would in a blink if I had a chance now
EDIT: forgot to mention that a friend of mine has an N1 that I often get to play around with, so when I say that it is better than the Hero, I really have seen and compared both and I'm not just drooling over the latest tech.
I would wait a few months for the 1.2GHz process htc phones to be released, with 2.2 they will fly

I am selling my iPhone right now to buy a hero locally for $250. Im jumping on the deal, because I love the phone, android and everything.
The only thing I don't like is the fact that I wont be able to use my 3G with AT&T.
Is EDGE going to be painfully slow on the Hero?
Should I not buy the 100, and try to buy a 300?
Because there's no way in hell I'm going to get one for this price!

Edge is painfully slow compared to 3g once you have experienced it.
I got the phone today. I've been using EDGE, and AT&T isn't that bad at all. Things seem fine. I'm sure 3G would be faster, but for now I don't mind at all.
let us know.. what u think between..
the phones
and the data speeds.
BTW: welcome to android
I'm going to buy a new mobile phone...
I had in mind HTC Hero and Motorola Milestone...
For now I use E71, but I'm looking to change OS (from Symbian to Android)
But, I can't make up my mind...
HTC Hero would be cheaper (Moto Milestone would cost more)
But, realy, I need your help, to tell me witch phone is better...
witch would you recomend?
hero is an awesome phone. i have been using it for last 5 months. but the problem is that developers are abandoning hero for nexus one. many modders have already bought nexus one and have stopped working on hero anymore and its quite logicla that why they will develop roms for an older phone while they have a pone with 1 ghz processor. as said developement of hero roms, themes, apps have become pretty slow for last 1-1.5 months and it will become worse. so right now buying hero isnt a very good idea in my honest opinion. better buy nexus one which is all interested in. cheers
Hero is an excellent phone. However, I'd personally go for the Nexus One right now.
I'll be developing for the Hero until this time next year, when my contract runs out
Update on my Hero.
I enjoy this phone much much more than my iPhone. Multitasking, customization, everything I wished I could do on my iPhone I can now do with my Hero.
The EDGE speed sometimes gets to me, such as when downloading applications. 3G is definitely faster, but the difference isn't so much that I regret my decision.
As for people updating and developing new Hero roms, I don't see why every dev would switch to the Nexus one. Yes, it's better, but I'm sure they understand that not everyone has a Nexus one. It would make no sense to just develop Nexus roms.\
I love everything about the Hero. I have the European version, so I have the chin, which I really like. I like having physical buttons on the outside too!

The vast majority of developers will likely only develop for phones they currently have/use. If a Hero developer buys a Nexus, there is a strong possibility that they would abandon support for the Hero, because they have little incentive to do so.
There are exceptions of course - Paul @ MoDaCo still supports the Hero even though he has a Nexus, but the speed of his releases has definitely slowed. However, this may be due to the fact that there is little new material out there to work with.

Dave
THX.
but, is it better to buy Milstone or Hero now??
If I were you, I'd buy neither - I'd get a HTC Desire when it is released in the next couple of months.

Dave
im getting a new phone and i think im going to like it...
im not sure if i want to sell though because i would like the selection of having 2 phones but im not too good on the hd2
i see that it still fetches around 250-300 on ebay but idk if i want to part what would be a good second phone to pick up to play with occasionally for the price i would get for my hd2?

'think' is a key word here. Just wait, if you do like your new phone, then sell your HD2, if you don't...you have a back-up.

to china sell to me Joke
I just got a good deal on a one-week-used desire hd, and a good deal on a buyer for my HD2 (4700 SEK and 3500 SEK). But I am still unsure whether to sell the HD2 or just keep it and sell DHD.
Android works well after all and the HD2 is way sexier (and also my first love), the only downside is the touchscreen that is better on the dhd and the slightly faster processor, but I doubt I'll ever need any of those as I can't see any real performance differences between the two other than the sense launcher (launcher pro works exactly the same).
ahhh, dilemma...
I'm pretty pissed that the amaze 4g is coming out in October..just got my sensation nd the amaze is a sensation with the little extra it needed..feel free to vent

Vent about what? Four months after the amaze comes out, there will be another flagship phone... I guarantee it.
If you ever buy technology so that you can own the best and fastest, whether it's a phone or computer or something else, then dont bother buying. You will always be disappointed. Instead, maybe just use your sensation and be happy with all that it is and all that it can do.
No, it's a phone, you'll get over it just like everyone else.

Sensation is still very young. While we can't have HW limitations changed, there can and will be things done to work around it (ok, not camera, but how many people actually use it). RAM is enough, especially with all the optimisations lately. Few more quirks to work out and Sensation will be almost perfect. Who's to say that Amaze won't have more problems than Sensation?
So no, i'm not pissed off at all. Oh, and Amaze is UGLY.
I'm pretty sure its gonna run like butter with a LIL more RAM nd sense 3.5..cuz with the specs the sensation has..lag shouldnt exist

And its not really the biggest jump either, i mean
1.5GHz dual-core CPU(That's what we have just under clocked to 1.2),
1GB of RAM(dont realy need that much and were just off buy around 256 mb),
4.3-inch qHD display(got it),
8MP rear camera(got it) ,
2MP front(ok this is and upgrade but who uses the front camera extensivly)
dual-LED flash(got it).
So all they did was not under-clock the cpu, raise ram a tiny bit, make the front camera 2mp and made the phone ugly.
Doesn't matter that much anyway. This phone will be overshadowed sooner or later by quad-core soc's like the tegra 3.
Every phone is outdated specwise around max. 4-5 months after their release.
im happy with my sensation. and as mentioned above there is really that big of improvements on the amaze. and also the sensation as is with all phones will be outdated a few months after its release.
if you are really upset with the the release of a newer phone so close to the release of the sensation, than go out and buy an iphone. atleast there hardware dont improve so quickly and you wont be so upset after buying it and a few months later they release a better one cause it wont happen so close after its initial release.
Sure I'm a little miffed about the specs, but honestly our phones will blow the amaze out of the water until they get cm7 on it. After buying the sensation I decided I'm not buying a new phone until it can be completely hacked s-off/rooted ect.. And an official CM build is a available for it. Otherwise the phone just feels like crap despite the specs due to sense/bloatware.

I am only mad about this because i have had 6 sensations and each had major issues weather hardware or software and at times each have been practically useless.... If they took the time to assure this wouldn't happen I wouldn't mind so much. However, that hasn't been Tue case... So I will be ditching my sensation as soon as the amaze is available.
Also correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the amaze also have a 42 mbps radio and also built in 16gb storage amongst the already mentioned specs.
I love HTC but they really let me down with this phone........

If the release of the Amaze 4G pisses you off, don't ever buy a new Macbook Pro, or any Apple computer for that matter.
Dropping $2k+ on a new computer just to watch a new version come out a month later with more ram, faster processor, better graphics card, longer battery life, wings, beer dispenser, and a $100 bill printer built in will really make you want to punch babies.
Haha you really can't win no matter what you do. Buy "THE" Android phone today, it's old hat in four months.
It was the exact opposite when I was on the Apple ship. Buy an iPhone today then wait a year or more only to find out the next big super secret release is some marginal upgrade. See iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4. Worth another two-year contract? I think not.
I'm not one to upgrade at every new release, but they say craigslist and ebay are good ways to get rid of old phones.

That would be funny if it weren't so true... Got burned on my "Late October 2010" Macbook Air that I bought in April... now it's outdated and I'm sad b/c I really want the new one but can't justify it!

Only thing I wish we had would be the internal memory, although it doesn't matter too much with microsd cards, and NFC
Not particularly as I bought mine out of contract. If you buy on contract yeah you might be a tad 'upset'

Yup. If you're buying a piece of technology so that you can feel good about having the "best" you're pretty thick.
You purchase something you feel delivers the best quality you can afford at the moment you are ready to purchase, and then enjoy it for what it is.
Sensation was that for me. Best choice for me at my moment of purchase, and I'm still quite happy about my choice.
i absolutely love my atrix but time has taken its toll and my screen has finally cracked (badly) and its starting to loose sensitivity on the screen
Im looking for for a cheap new android phone thats as fast as or faster than the atrix but with a better camera at the price budget of around £140 secondhand, i may even buy another atrix..
does anyone have some suggestions?

Saw an Atrix HD couple of days ago (was it on Amazon or eBay, I forgot), around £130-150 I think. No contracts etc~
If I were you, I'd look like a Galaxy Nexus, but that's just me. One thing I've learned is that from now on, I'm only getting nexus devices. (Waiting on the next nexus to get a new phone for myself)
Depends on your budget but if you can afford it buy a nexus 4. Hordes of roms to try and developer support will be much better than the atrix. I still use my atrix 4g as a test dummy.

I would definitely not buy another atrix. I cracked my screen terrible a year ago and I've kept using it, but now the WiFi chip has burnt out. This is common problem with the atrix and happens with age. This combined with bug ridden ICS support and the fact that google will be releasing 4.3 soon, I believe it's time to move on.
Personally I'd wait until the new line of nexus-based products hits the UK. On June 26th the S4, and HTC One nexus versions are coming out in US and shortly after to the UK. You'll see a crapload of people dumping their old phones for resale when this happens. Just wait a couple weeks and you'll spot some deals. And you'll definitely see used Nexus 4 prices hit within your budget.
Hey guys!
So I've had the DNA for a while now and I love it. Even today it's still a really great phone but mine does have some issues (ear speaker doesn't work, power button is a little iffy most of the time, the battery doesnt last long at all, and there's about 10 or so dead pixels) and I was wondering what your guys thoughts on signing a 2 year agreement this late in the year for the m8 if it was basically free? ($0.01 on Amazon right now).
Originally my plan was to keep the DNA until next year's flagship came out, but one cent is a pretty attractive price point even if the phone doesn't have everything I want in a phone (but at this point I'm not sure next year's flagships will either) I'm just not sure I want to sign a new 2 year contract on a phone that's 8 months old.
So what would you guys do in this situation? Stick with the DNA or grab the m8 and sign the 2 year agreement?

Guess i would have a couple of questions, 1 is there a new flagship coming and if so what is it and when is it coming? I have an upgrade also and have not heard of a new HTC phone in the works. Tough choice, wait for HTC or look at 1 of the other companies new phones. Good luck
Hope this isn't considered a hijack of your thread, but I'm also considering a move to the One M8. Also currently on a DNA that is still performing well. I have a free upgrade available, but looks like I will need to use it by the end of December. On a corporate plan, and looks like the purchase of new phones by the company will end in January and be up to the employee to purchase.
Looking for recommendations on best options between now and end of the year. I like the DNA size and don't know that I would want to significantly larger. I also like the wireless charging. Being able to root is also preferred, and since I'm currently running a One ROM on the DNA, that would be an easy transition. However, I share the same concern of purchasing an "older" model at this point, but doesn't look like the M9 will be out before end of year. I really haven't done a lot of due-diligence studying at this point and would appreciate any input.

No worries about hijacking the thread, I personally prefer the m8 to anything else on the market right now. Of all the smartphones that I've owned or worked with I personally prefer the look/feel of HTC phones, and sense is really the only android UI that I like. That being said, the M8 is definitely not top of the line spec wise anymore.
MKBHD says that the Droid Turbo is the best phone you can buy on Verizon at the moment. I personally haven't used the phone or looked into it but motorola phones tend to be very Vanilla in terms of their UI. It has a huge battery and both Quickcharge 2.0 and wireless charging. The screen is 5.2 inches so its not that much larger than the DNA, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the phone itself was the same size/slightly smaller than the DNA. The one thing to keep in mind is that it has a quad HD screen, which tend to be extremely power hungry, but again theres that huge battery that charges fast.
My girlfriend has a m8, and I've been playing around with it a little bit recently, I don't think you'll notice a huge performance difference between the phones in everyday use, Its also likely that if you got the m8 it would come with an older software version than the current OTA, so you would most likely be able to root it right away, but if thats not the case the sunshine guys are working on an s-off method for the newest OTA. The only thing that you might miss with the M8 is the wireless charging.
The phone is still a good phone, the reason that I was hesitating is because I'm excited about the technology that will "possibly" be out next year. The things that I am really looking for in a phone are a 64 bit processor (maybe 3-4 gigs of ram...but I don't do a ton of multitasking so I would be perfectly happy with 2) and the antiglare gorilla glass. My problem is that I really don't care for/need a quad HD display and most of the new phones are likely going to have them.
