Unique question about rooting my Droid Eris 2.1 - FLASHING - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would like to think I have a unique problem on my hand. So to start off, here are my specs on my Droid Eris. I would like some professional advice.
HBOOT: 1.46
Firmware: 2.1 (Did the over the air update)
Baseband Version: 2.42.00.04.12
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-8a03cb9a
Build Number: 2.36.605.1
Software Number: 2.36.605.1
PRI Version: 2.11_002
PRL Version: 03310
ERI Version: 5
I would like to root my phone, plain and simple. I've already read most of the other threads on how to do this so you don't need to repeat yourselves.
Here is my problem: Does it matter at all that my phone was FLASHED over to another carrier? My Verizon HTC Droid Eris runs on the REVOL WIRELESS network and has been working flawlessly on that network even after I upgraded later to version 2.1 (was on 1.5 when I got the phone).
My other question is, what preperations are needed BEFORE I begin rooting my phone to safeguard against total noobish failure? I would like to back everything up and have a spare copy of everybody in case I totally screw everything up but I haven't a clue how to do it or what software to use. Any advice would be appreciated.
Hopefully these same questions haven't been answered/asked before.
Thanks,
A-Train

Follow regular rooting instructions.. You should be good!!!

if your on vista or 7, use the Android Master App. total noob proof. the only thing you could backup without root is your apps, but you will have to reinstall them anyways threw the market as you wont get notifications of any app updates.
link to the AMA is in my signature, first link.

Rooting htc hero
Recently also rooted my htc hero on the revol network which is the same as the droid eris. Followed this guide which i have made into a word file. Was very helpful and easy to follow. Just remember to give thanks to the real authors when you are done, cos it's not my work. Remember to backup ur apps or contacts of importance before starting. You can use astro manager(android market) to back up your apps and htc sync to back up your contacts. Hope it helps.

Vogue broke. Bought a Hero. Feeling like a noob.

I had an HTC Touch Vogue for a long time, and have been using Android on it since the Vogue Android project first started. I knew a lot about that project and what to do... but now that phone broke.
Now here I am with a Hero and I am totally lost to be honest, feeling like a big ol' noob again.
I was hoping someone could answer a few questions I have regarding the Hero and ROM flashing, etc. that I couldn't find answers for.
Here are my Hero's details (I'm on Telus btw):
Baseband: 63.18.55.06DAU_6.35.08.20
Kernel: 2.6.27-0078c992
Build: 2.73.661.46
Software: 1.0.0.A6288
Q: Can this build be rooted or is it patched? Will I need to downgrade?
Q: Is there any risk in the rooting process itself? (Not necessarily with the additional access I'm giving myself)
Q: Is there anything I can do to get the stock Android apps back? I cannot stand HTC's versions of Media Manager, Contacts ("People") and Messaging.
Q: Is there a way to restore the default Cupcake theme?
Q: Is there anywhere I can find more info on nandroid/backing up my Hero?
Q: Can I upgrade my radio (baseband?) to any of the latest versions (like I did with the Vogue) or is it carrier specific?
Any help with these questions would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Unrooting one atrix, and rooting another

Hello, I currently have two atrix's and need some help, as all the information I'm seeing on here is vastly different then when i rooted my first atrix all the way back in april.
So with the first phone its been rooted and has gingerblur rom on it.
android ver. is 2.2.1 (though the creator claims it is 2.2.2)
kernel ver is 2.6.32.9
Build number is 1.5.7 (I read there have been issues with this that im not understanding right now)
As to what it had before the root I honestly do not recall. Nor do i recall what I used to root it, but it was with a guide on this forum.
The second phone that I need to root has
android 2.2.2
kernel ver 1.6.32.9
Build number is 1.8.3 (again I'm confused as to what this means)
Any answers would be very helpful and appreciated. I do not want to brick either of these phones. I've done thing like this many times, but I've never come across something concerning a build number. So I want to be perfectly sure first. Thank you.
probably you should start from swift's noob guide first. things changed a lot since last april.

[Q] Greyblurred BELL Atrix 2.2.2 - How Do I Upgrade?

Greetings! I've recently acquired an unwanted Motrola Atrix 4G and I'm wanting to upgrade it to the latest version of Android. Here's the tricky part - it's a Canadian (BELL) phone with an inactive SIM, and I'm not too sure what has actually been installed on it.
As far as I can tell, the previous user has 'Greyblurred' the device (See Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1070076) and flashed it with the custom SBF linked in the thread.
How would I go about updating the phone to Gingerbread? Is an OTA update possible without bricking it?
I should mention that this is my first smart phone, though I quite familiar with the terminology and it's applications. Just a nudge in the right direction would be fantastic.
Here's the system information, if it's of any help:
Code:
System Version: Version 4.2.1.1.MB860.Retail - Blurred
Model Number: MB860
Android Version: 2.2.2
Baseband Version: N_01.92.00R
Motorola Webtop Version: OSHWT_U1_6.54.0
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9

SMP PREEMPT Thu Apr 28 22:58:25 CST 2011
Build Number: OLYEM_U4_2.1.1 - GreyBlurred
Thank you kindly in advance - any help is appreciated!
So it's been almost a year and I figured I'd give this a bump rather than create a new thread. Does anyone have even a whiff of a suggestion? Thank you kindly, in advance.
Okay, I must say I'm quite surprised. Even after almost a year you still haven't been able to research this on your own?
This forum is crammed with various detailed tutorials and guides, that should be enough to get anyone started...
The most obvious first step would be to determine if the phone shows "Unlocked" while booting and/or has a custom recovery installed.

The phone does not say unlocked. However, it does have CWM installed.
I have read through every tutorial. The issue isn't determining how to get the phone flashed to a newer ROM, it's the fact that it has a unique SBF's on it, and I am unable to receive OTA updates (though that's obvious). I'm wanting to simply upgrade it to the newest version without bricking it.
Since it dealt with flashing an SBF that has since been unsupported, I figured I should ask first, before going ahead and fiddling on my own.
Also, it being a BELL model it all the more frustrating!
(And, I am unable to take it to a BELL service store/send it in etc. since I am in Sweden.)
You have CWM. You have absolutely no need to touch a SBF ever again.
Just flash a ROM through CWM. There is no way to brick the phone that way.
All CWM-flashable ROMs work on all devices.

[Q] Unroot US Cellular GS2 (SCH-R760)

Hi all, I am very new to Android and rooting and really didn't think it would be as much of a hassle as it is. I apologize in advance if this post is in a wrong location.
My problem is basically that I rooted according to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531303
and now whenever the phone auto-locks, it reboots. I would be greatful if this could be fixed but I really just want the phone back in working stock order as the US cellular version especially is very unsupported to my knowledge. If it matters, I have done a factory reset since rooting but obviously it is still rooted and the problem persists.
Model: SCH-R760
Android Version: 2.3.6
Broadband Version: S:R760.01 K.FB14
Build #: GINGERBREAD.FB14
Hardware Version: R760.01
I had the same problem. what I did to solve this was Easy as 123...
1. Download USB drivers from Samsung. http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SCH-R760IBAUSC?#
2. Download this Simple Upgrade Tool from Samsung. http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SCH-R760IBAUSC?#
3. Run Simple Upgrade Tool (and Follow the Instructions). This will bring your Phone back to stock 2.3.6 ROM (Unrooted)
note- This Process is assuming that you installed USCC FB14 Kernal Back on your Phone after using CWM Kernal to Gain Root Access... If Not, Make Sure you Follow the Instructions written and POSTED Clearly By (Props To) sfhub http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23276856&postcount=3

How to update radios

My EVO 4G LTE is getting such bad service it's unbelievable. I've been told it's the phone and not sprint. In Houston others seem to get much better results.
Currently I'm running MeanBean 3.09 S-ON. I don't really know much about rooting and followed a video guide to get different roms on there. I had settled on meanbean and think it's great but I've also heard I can't upgrade my radios with it. I try to update PRL with no luck. I'm not sure what information is needed to point me in the right direction so I'll just post what I think is relevant. If more info is needed please let me know. If there is something rather drastic I need to do like turning the phone back to stock could you please tell me where to find a guide on how to do so? I had this information saved on my laptop but it died on the road (airline pilot) and I had to buy a new Sony VAIO (love it) which doesn't have anything saved on it so I have to start from scratch. I've rather forgotten the process.
Anyway here is my current info.

I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make this phone work as it should. To get my signal back. I don't care if I have to spend half a day getting it back to stock to do something I just need to know what I need to actually do to make it better. Please help!!!
Anything you need to know about Firmware, Radios etc can be found here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704612
thank you for that this website is a little harder to find what I'm looking for but I really appreciated it and managed to work it out!
Your welcome. Glad to help.
