[Q] Greyblurred BELL Atrix 2.2.2 - How Do I Upgrade? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings! I've recently acquired an unwanted Motrola Atrix 4G and I'm wanting to upgrade it to the latest version of Android. Here's the tricky part - it's a Canadian (BELL) phone with an inactive SIM, and I'm not too sure what has actually been installed on it.
As far as I can tell, the previous user has 'Greyblurred' the device (See Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1070076) and flashed it with the custom SBF linked in the thread.
How would I go about updating the phone to Gingerbread? Is an OTA update possible without bricking it?
I should mention that this is my first smart phone, though I quite familiar with the terminology and it's applications. Just a nudge in the right direction would be fantastic.
Here's the system information, if it's of any help:
Code:
System Version: Version 4.2.1.1.MB860.Retail - Blurred
Model Number: MB860
Android Version: 2.2.2
Baseband Version: N_01.92.00R
Motorola Webtop Version: OSHWT_U1_6.54.0
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT Thu Apr 28 22:58:25 CST 2011
Build Number: OLYEM_U4_2.1.1 - GreyBlurred
Thank you kindly in advance - any help is appreciated!

So it's been almost a year and I figured I'd give this a bump rather than create a new thread. Does anyone have even a whiff of a suggestion? Thank you kindly, in advance.

Okay, I must say I'm quite surprised. Even after almost a year you still haven't been able to research this on your own?
This forum is crammed with various detailed tutorials and guides, that should be enough to get anyone started...
The most obvious first step would be to determine if the phone shows "Unlocked" while booting and/or has a custom recovery installed.

The phone does not say unlocked. However, it does have CWM installed.
I have read through every tutorial. The issue isn't determining how to get the phone flashed to a newer ROM, it's the fact that it has a unique SBF's on it, and I am unable to receive OTA updates (though that's obvious). I'm wanting to simply upgrade it to the newest version without bricking it.
Since it dealt with flashing an SBF that has since been unsupported, I figured I should ask first, before going ahead and fiddling on my own.
Also, it being a BELL model it all the more frustrating!
(And, I am unable to take it to a BELL service store/send it in etc. since I am in Sweden.)

You have CWM. You have absolutely no need to touch a SBF ever again.
Just flash a ROM through CWM. There is no way to brick the phone that way.
All CWM-flashable ROMs work on all devices.

Unique question about rooting my Droid Eris 2.1 - FLASHING

I would like to think I have a unique problem on my hand. So to start off, here are my specs on my Droid Eris. I would like some professional advice.
HBOOT: 1.46
Firmware: 2.1 (Did the over the air update)
Baseband Version: 2.42.00.04.12
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-8a03cb9a
Build Number: 2.36.605.1
Software Number: 2.36.605.1
PRI Version: 2.11_002
PRL Version: 03310
ERI Version: 5
I would like to root my phone, plain and simple. I've already read most of the other threads on how to do this so you don't need to repeat yourselves.
Here is my problem: Does it matter at all that my phone was FLASHED over to another carrier? My Verizon HTC Droid Eris runs on the REVOL WIRELESS network and has been working flawlessly on that network even after I upgraded later to version 2.1 (was on 1.5 when I got the phone).
My other question is, what preperations are needed BEFORE I begin rooting my phone to safeguard against total noobish failure? I would like to back everything up and have a spare copy of everybody in case I totally screw everything up but I haven't a clue how to do it or what software to use. Any advice would be appreciated.
Hopefully these same questions haven't been answered/asked before.
Thanks,
A-Train
Follow regular rooting instructions.. You should be good!!!
if your on vista or 7, use the Android Master App. total noob proof. the only thing you could backup without root is your apps, but you will have to reinstall them anyways threw the market as you wont get notifications of any app updates.
link to the AMA is in my signature, first link.
Rooting htc hero
Recently also rooted my htc hero on the revol network which is the same as the droid eris. Followed this guide which i have made into a word file. Was very helpful and easy to follow. Just remember to give thanks to the real authors when you are done, cos it's not my work. Remember to backup ur apps or contacts of importance before starting. You can use astro manager(android market) to back up your apps and htc sync to back up your contacts. Hope it helps.

[Q] Unrooting one atrix, and rooting another

Hello, I currently have two atrix's and need some help, as all the information I'm seeing on here is vastly different then when i rooted my first atrix all the way back in april.
So with the first phone its been rooted and has gingerblur rom on it.
android ver. is 2.2.1 (though the creator claims it is 2.2.2)
kernel ver is 2.6.32.9
Build number is 1.5.7 (I read there have been issues with this that im not understanding right now)
As to what it had before the root I honestly do not recall. Nor do i recall what I used to root it, but it was with a guide on this forum.
The second phone that I need to root has
android 2.2.2
kernel ver 1.6.32.9
Build number is 1.8.3 (again I'm confused as to what this means)
Any answers would be very helpful and appreciated. I do not want to brick either of these phones. I've done thing like this many times, but I've never come across something concerning a build number. So I want to be perfectly sure first. Thank you.
probably you should start from swift's noob guide first. things changed a lot since last april.

[Q] Unroot US Cellular GS2 (SCH-R760)

Hi all, I am very new to Android and rooting and really didn't think it would be as much of a hassle as it is. I apologize in advance if this post is in a wrong location.
My problem is basically that I rooted according to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531303
and now whenever the phone auto-locks, it reboots. I would be greatful if this could be fixed but I really just want the phone back in working stock order as the US cellular version especially is very unsupported to my knowledge. If it matters, I have done a factory reset since rooting but obviously it is still rooted and the problem persists.
Model: SCH-R760
Android Version: 2.3.6
Broadband Version: S:R760.01 K.FB14
Build #: GINGERBREAD.FB14
Hardware Version: R760.01
I had the same problem. what I did to solve this was Easy as 123...
1. Download USB drivers from Samsung. http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SCH-R760IBAUSC?#
2. Download this Simple Upgrade Tool from Samsung. http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SCH-R760IBAUSC?#
3. Run Simple Upgrade Tool (and Follow the Instructions). This will bring your Phone back to stock 2.3.6 ROM (Unrooted)
note- This Process is assuming that you installed USCC FB14 Kernal Back on your Phone after using CWM Kernal to Gain Root Access... If Not, Make Sure you Follow the Instructions written and POSTED Clearly By (Props To) sfhub http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23276856&postcount=3

[Q] point the way.

Dropped my hd2 at work, looked for a replacement phone at fry's Electronics
came across an Unbranded Carrier-Unlocked Atrix 4g said i want it.so i bought it.
I've searched high and low for resources to help me:
Root
flash recovery
flash rom.
At the moment I've managed to root using
superoneclick.
i keep reading about possibly bricking this phone,
which is why i wont continue on my own.
I'm looking for instructions,links, or how-to's.
I have looked at the stickies,
and its a cluster of confusion that doesn't help me what so ever.

Hi there, have a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423
I have an AT&T Atrix and this is the unlock/recovery I used and I'm still smiling
I know that it can be bricked, but I don't think many people do just take your time and read through (twice if you need to) and follow the instructions. I cant remember exactly what happened but I was scared at one stage but I carried on and all's well :good:
My Atrix isn't carrier branded, therefore I'm not sure what'd work for you will work for me.
I had already looked at that post, it offered no insight into my dilemma.
It doesn't specifically say it works on ALL atrix 4g variants which is why I'm seeking verification.
There are really only 3 variants of Atrix. And yes, this works on all of them that have an unlockable bootloader, regardless of the variant or firmware version.
Any such modification always carries with it certain risk though, so as always, do it at your own risk. What is already offered on the forum is pretty much all you are going to get, if you still don't feel comfortable with doing it, it's probably best if you leave it alone.

Hello all,
So I received my new to me S4, and prior to activating it I wanted to Fist get rid of Knox and put on a custom ROM.However, after much reading I am just more confused. I hoping that someone will just give me the Dummies guide to rooting, nixn' Knox and installing a custom ROM (hyperdrive, or CM).
Like first go download these apps, next do this, then that, kinda instructions.
the phone I received is an:
SCH-i545
Android Version 4.4.2
Baseband I545VRUFNC5
Kernal 3.4.0 [email protected]#1
Build# K0T49H.I545VRUFNC%
SE for Android Status: Enforcing; SEPF_SCH_I545_4.4.2_0011
Secure boot Status Type: Samsung
Security software version: MDF v1.0 Release 2
Hope this is not too much info, but I read all kind of post that seem to condradict one another, just when I think I've found the info I read something else that makes me feel this could lead to disaster. Please help. The last android I had was a Droid Eris, and things seem to have changed quite a bit.
Thanks
Trey

Read my whole post linked below. It is accurate. Do not upgrade to NG6, it is a pain and has root but no custom rom capability (yet). On NC5 however, you can flash a ROM using Safestrap (Do not use the safestrap linked in the thread below (3.72), use the safestrap in the general forum (3.75)). DO NOT FLASH TWRP OR CWM. We have a locked bootloader and flashing those is impossible as of yet.
With safestrap, you cannot flash CM, AOSP, or anything that contains a custom kernel. You can flash Hyperdrive, eclipse, and in rare cases Google Edition (The Safestrap version only!!! Not the normal Google edition!)

Thanks npjohnson! very helpful, slow day here in Cisco VOIP land so, I was messing around and got Towelroot, and Root checker. After those two, I installed SuperSU, Thanks Tomsgt! It has all worked so far and SuperSU as apparently disabled Knox…. So Im on my way here. Your post should now take me all the way home. Thanks again! :highfive:
