I picked up my Aria from AT&T last night and am trying to get it set up. I cannot sync and this may be a dealbreaker if I can't figure it out. I downloaded the latest HTC Sync (2.0.38) and debugged, but when I go to the "Connect to PC" screen, there is no option for "HTC Sync" on the phone. And, the computer shows no connection to the phone. The only options on the phone are: "Default connection type" and "Ask me".
From my experience, once you have the sync software installed plug in the phone through USB and you will get 3 options on your phone to choose how to mount it. One of the 3 is HTCsync.
Well, DUH
OK, I just figured out that there ARE 3 options under the first option. I'm still getting used to the way this thing works! So, I've now made it sync with my netbook with Vista. We'll see if I make it sync with Windows 7 later.
alternative sync
I know this is a dead thread, but at the risk of being late to the party, HTC sync sucks with Win7.
My best solution? My Phone Explorer from the play store. It's free and works like a charm with any phone (or at least the HTC and Samsung one's I've tried) and Win7. Sync to Outlook, Thunderbird, or pretty much any other windows based calendar/contacts software.
Anyway - two years later - I hope this helps!

Hello everyone,
I successfully installed WM6 Faria edition on a Cingular 8125 (G4 Version). That i know of, all features are currently working, but when i tried using Windows Live Messenger for the first time, the phone froze after logging in. I was able to see the online & offline contacts as soon as the device logged in; however, i had to soft reset the phone as it froze right after logging in.
After the phone rebooted, i tried using the application again and i am able to login but it shows "0" online contacts and "0" offline (in another words, No contacts at all)
Just wanted to know if anyone has had the same problem or if its a setting i may be missing.
Thanks in advance,
Will V.
You didn't wait for a few minutes before resetting the device. The registry was not saved!
To solve just use "switch account" in windows live!
I aprecciate the help. I was able to resolved the problem by doing what you suggested.
Thanks again!

Hi Heroes
Did you ever have trouble syncing your Hero with your PC? No connection with HTC sync? Only usb connection and access to the SD card? Maybe you got no connection at all? HTC sync couldn't find the driver... Or you actually used to be able to sync, but you can't anymore?
Well, I know how annoying this can be There are a few things you might wanna try. They worked for me...
a) Get HTC sync and install the drivers.
Windows 7 users (like me) will get an additional challenge, but it is doable IF you read this this thread (entirely!)
Remember the HTC Hero sync tab in the notification area trick (mentioned by #19 Magnus in the above thread).
Also remember #7 Daniel Kruschinski comment on restarting the phone.
b) Now, why create my own topic if every answer can be found in this thread? Simple: I DON'T WANT TO RESTART MY PHONE EACH TIME I HAVE TO SYNC!
Question:
Sync works after phone restart (if drivers are installed properly), but stops working after a while... why?Answer:
Because the HTC sync app (called "PC synchronization" or similar) ON THE PHONE stopped working.Question:
Why did the application stop working?Answer:
Because a) it shut down on its own (bug or whatever), or because b) you killed it with a app like Advanced Task Killer (ATK) in order to try to free some memory because your phone was being sluggish...Question:
Why not simply restart that app by going to "Menu" - "Settings" - "Synchronization" - "Sync with PC", since this IS the app?Answer:
...because it doesn't work! You can restart the app after it died, and it will show on ATK, but the syncing WILL NOT work. Weird, but that's the way it is...Question:
So what do I do?Answer:
Don't kill it! Oh, and by the way, if you use ATK, unchecking HTC sync in the program WILL NOT BE GOOD ENOUGH!: ATK will still kill it (!).
You HAVE TO add it to the "Ignore List" in ATK in order to keep it running (long press on the app in the list, then choose "ignore"). Strange, but true... This only applies to HTC sync, as far as I can tell. Don't ask...
A few more things, while we're at it:
- If the events of the calendar OF THE PHONE don't transfer to your Outlook calendar or your Google calendar , read this thread to know why (jr2408 's post).
why, WHY did they do that? Why can't you merge the calendars? Why can't you change the event's calendars after having entered them? At least, the phone remembers your calendar event settings... Uff!
- Here are a few apps you might want to install. They are free, and they are really usefull:
Advanced Task Killer free:
Allows to free memory by shutting down unused background apps. Removes sluggishness - awesome! Remember to use the ignore list for apps like HTC sync and TouchFLO
Quick Uninstaller:
Makes uninstalling apps a one-click operation. Cool!
Y5 - Battery saver:
Fantastic! Turns off the phone's wifi when you're not close to your (or a chosen) Access point. Remembers location by GPS tracking and thus saves you A LOT of battery energy. Try it, really...
3G Watchdog:
Keeps you informed of your Data connection rate (on 3G network, not wifi) and warns you when you reach a certain value. Very useful for those who don't have free unlimited transfer...
aTrackDog:
Keeps your software updated, even if it doesn't come from Android Market.
ASTRO:
An explorer which lets you manage your files.
Barcode Scanner:
Obvious...
Shazam:
Recognizes songs by listening and finds info on the Web. Impressive!
Wifi Analyzer:
Helps you spot the most appropriate Access point if several are in the area...
Sky map:
Helps you identify stars in the sky. Powerful!
AND:
Robo Defense (addictive!); Mario Simulator (laughing guaranteed); OI Flashlight (a "where is the #@! keyhole"-killer); Metal detector (eat that, I-phone braggers!)
If you got cash, don't forget CoPilot for GPS navigation, which allows to DOWNLOAD entire maps and store them on your SD card.
Et voilà! Comments welcome, recommended apps, advices... You tell me!
Questions are welcome, but answers are even more. Share!
Very useful post
very nice thanks!!!!!
My Hero doesnt detect the HTC sync on my Vista. I have never been able to sync with PC. I dont want to sync with PC as sync everything with google. But I need to sync with HTC sync for ROM upgrade. I have tried everything. I tried disablling the antivirus and firewall, put the program on teh Firewall exception list but nothing happnes. says that phone cannot detect HTC sync on computer. I hav downloaded the latest HTC sync from the HTC site. Any suggestions?
Hi all,
This is a little hello from me to you all. Like you all I've had problems with HTC Sync, unable to connect my HTC Hero, which I've only had for three weeks, but it seemly like a long time due to the problems I've had with HTC Sync and time I spend getting it to work with Outlook...
Anyway, I've read a lot of information here and externally i.e. google.com searches. I'm glad to say I've managed to HTC Sync to work..
This is what I did....Oh! I have a Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit, I GUESS this might work with any other installation of Windows, but not sure about Windows 7. If this works, please post here so people have one place to go to find the answer.... cheers.... and good luck!
1) Downloaded Andriod SDK, this was to allow debug USB connection. You can find it here.. http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r05-windows.zip
2) Downloaded HTC sync version 2.0.33 (http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=283&cat=3&dl_id=933)
3) As I use my Ipod to sync music, I found Apple also installed Mobile device software, I uninstalled this.
4) Reviewed all software that related to USB and mobile devices and there were a few.... including my trusty HTC Diamond..., UN-installed them all...
5) Rebooted my laptop.
6) Installed SDK to C:\ASDK, then set-up Environment Variable to point to ;C:\ASDK\android-sdk-windows\tools, this is thanks to someone who posted this information on the web...sorry I can't find the reference, but here is my Kudos to you!
I rebooted my laptop...
7) I then installaed HTC Sync, but prior to the install, I stopped Anti-virus software (AVG), disabled my firewall.
8) Did another reboot.
9) Once my laptop was up and running.. ensured my firewall was disabled and disabled AVG, connected my Hero (baby) noticed Windows installed the USB drivers
10) Once the installed was completed, HTC Sync, did not see the phone, now I was pretty pissed at this point, however I wasn't going to give...
11) Whilst my phone was still connected, I decided to power it off and left it off for about 20 seconds.
12) Powered my Hero back on... and then that was it.... Windows found the phone not just USB, HTC Sync, noticed the Hero was connected and started the installation of the drivers, this took a bit of time... do be cool and wait...
12) HTC Sycn, status, conected baby, yeah!....
I setup what I wanted to sych, Contacts, calendar etc. and clicked on sync on the PC....
And it was great seeing this happen....
I hope this bit of information help someONE or someTWO at least... I know how much time I spent on this and if I can help save someONE or TWO save sometime - WoW It make me feel goooood....
Please post if it helps or if it don't...
Cheers and good luck to all

I am trying to use your method... but I don't quite grasp the meaning of point 6 (sorry for being such a noob, but I am at point of tears as I bough the Hero a few days ago as my first smartphone and now everything that can go wrong during freeing it into better phone, is going just wrooong).
So were do I set this C:\ASDK\android-sdk-windows\tools at? my PC? My SD card? How exactly I do it?
Thanks people for all the post, really... just at the beginning is quite overwhelming
Agnes

To be honest I don't know, but apparently it's necessary for installing ROM (following the steps from THE guide). I want to make sure it's working so that I won't get stuck with this problem in the middle of ROMing...
but later today I found my software is not up to date, but for some reason my phone errors with the phone+red triangle screen on, so I cannot update, without it I cannot properly root (even though the Universal Androot says it's rooted), and can't do anything. I am stuck at the moment, and plan to visit some store that claims they can do it for me... I feel disappointed and angry.:crying:

Hi!
Tried Whatsapp in my Flyer and the application "could not recognize phone model".
Three weeks ago, I contacted Whatsapp-support and got the following answer "Sorry, tablets are not supported at this time and we have no plans to support them."
So bad luck for me...for now.
Pls, veethree, could you confirm the website where you downloaded the apk from?
Thanks !
Hi,
I have WhatsApp running on my Flyer P510e. I took the APK from my HTC Desire as it isn't available from the market.
WhatsApp identifies/registers itself using your devices phone number, which makes things interesting if you change SIM often - for example while travelling overseas. I doubt you will be able to get whatsapp going successfully if you have a wi-fi only Flyer or no SIM in your 3G flyer.
Cheers

How exactly do you take the .apk from your Desire? I have whatsapp going on my htc evo 4g, but I can't get it from there to my evo view 4g.
Please help.
Hi,
Before you get started you need to do a few things:
1) You need a file manager that lets you manage and backup applications you have installed on your phone. I use Astro. Install that onto both devices.
2) I transferred the APK between devices using standard bluetooth, if you want to do that then you need to activate bluetooth on both devices and pair them.
3) Almost forgot, make sure you have 'Unknown Sources' activated in the 'Applications' settings options.
So what you do is:
Enable bluetooth on both devices and make sure they are paired;
Use the Astro to make a backup of the whatsapp application. In Astro this is done via the 'Tools' menu item and the 'Application Manager/Backup' option. Select the app(s) you want to back up, then hit the 'backup' button. Backups are stored on the sdcard in the 'backups/apps' directory and should be called com.whatsapp.apk or similar. Navigate to that directory;
Long-press on the apk to activate the pop-up menu, select 'Send', then 'Bluetooth' (if bluetooth isn't available as an option then check that you have activated bluetooth). Select the flyer from the bluetooth devices list. The file transfer will start.
Now you have to switch to the flyer and accept the incoming file via the notifications panel.
After it's been transferred you just need to activate it from where it is listed in the the notifications dropdown and elect to install it. It wont install if 'Unknown Sources' is not enabled.
From there you should be able to register whatsapp. Note that each of your devices will show up as different users to your contacts on whatsapp.
Hope that helps.
Cheers
I got the apk directly from the WhatsApp website - they have a "download" section and then one for "download for Android" which saves the apk onto your PC (or your device, if you're using it to browse).
As has been said, you need a 3G model for this to work - the wifi only version probably gives issues.

Wow, thanks very much. So many times I had seen people "moving an .apk from their phone" but I never knew exactly how they did it.
That being said, it didn't work for my evo view =( Really sucks. Gotta wait for one of my friends to finally get his android so we can use google plus.
I try to do it but still can't identified. My flyer
I have successfully use and installed whatsapp (thru apk from my desire) with no problem. This was before s-off, and my software number was 1.xxSomething.
When I upgrade to 2.xxSomething and got s-off. I still successfully installed but can not launch whatsapp because of "cant identify device" error.
I also face the same problem. Cannot use whatsapp anymore
I have the exact problem. Then i install this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1175589 and now Whatsapp and Viber working fine together with the phone function for the Flyer. But the software number now is 1.38.709.7 and the ROM only in English and Chinese.
flashing to i00 rom did not fix this issue, maybe because that rom is base on 2.xx soft number.
Using titanium restore worked diff for me. it uses my phone account not my flyer gsm number.
So I flash another rom, the one from zhangip, which is base from 1.xx soft num.
Whatsapp now works normal, at last.
Thanks for the post just above.

can anyone can share the WHATSAPP.APK to me which can use in FLYER? thanks a lot.
Good news i have install [ROM][Flyer][Honeycomb] FlyHoney ROM v0.2 | First HC custom ROM for the HTC Flyer, whatsapp application works. Before that i am using Flying High rom and used titanum backup
So I decided to root my new HTC ONE because there are a couple of querks I wanted to iron out myself through sideloading some stuff.
However, when I unlocked my phone through bootloader, it wiped my entire phone contents. I pretty much expected this but was still a little annoyed. So my next step was to go into HTC Sync Manager and just restore my phone from a previous sync.
Well it appears that HTC Sync manager has no history of my previous syncs for some reason. This leaves me with a serious problem....
Now I'm looking through random files trying to find the most recent sync in order to recover all of the contents and settings that were previously on the phone but I don't know where to look or how to have HTC Sync Manager recognize it. This is my first android phone coming over from the iWagon so I am used to Backup, Jailbreak, Restore - in that order...
Does anybody know how to do this? Surely you don't have to start from scratch if you just want to root the damn thing.
Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.
I have a STRANGE issue going on that I'm hoping the XDA community can help with.
My Asus Chromebook Flip has been a tank since I got it (warranty ran out 3 weeks ago, of course). Out of the blue it suddenly started rebooting "randomly". After doing a Powerwash and a full OS image restore (from microSD) it was still doing it, but I noticed that it seemed to only do this after Chrome would get re-synced with all my extensions. After I had turned off all extensions and another restore I refused to load Chrome itself and instead watched Netflix via its app, played lots of Android games and then loaded Firefox and browsed that way. So far it's been rock solid again.
I looked over the logs in file:///var/logs/chrome and they are of little help (to me). They show several different errors including something called Gaia login issues, bluetooth issues, devices not existing, etc. Nothing to me is obvious from them. It seems like a corrupted Chrome. Asus is of little use as they want $60 for a diagnostic fee, can't tell me what it will cost to "repair" and will have the unit for at least 10 days. My fear would be they'd send me a bill for like $200 to repair and send me a crappy refurb that wil then fail the same way once I resync Chrome. (My flip is in a clear case and is pristine).
Has anyone seen this sort of thing before? The obvious course (again, to me) is to go into Chrome and turn on extensions one-by-one until I find, hopefully THE culprit assuming that is the cause. Hoping someone here may have gone through this and found the culprit or likely culprit before I begin this hunt, especially since all my extensions are also disabled on my desktop due to the sync. I have extensions for Forecast Fox, Dashlane, Google Calendar Plus, Honey, Color Picker, U-Block, Tampermonkey (to allow a script to check pop accounts more often... now that I type that this seems a good prospect) and others I'm forgetting now.
Thanks.

It seemed to, though I didn't spend much time doing Guest as there's a lot of limits on it (for example Netflix won't work as a Guest). I didn't try a new account because I don't really have one, though I could create one just for testing.
