[SOLVED] Keyboard gone after rooting :( - XPERIA X10 Android Development

Ok, as the rooting thread is getting overwhelmed with users not being able to find their correct deviceID, not being able to put java in their %path% or just having problems due to a 64bit version of java or whatever else could go wrong
All other valid questions are getting snowed in their so I thought i might be better to get a new thread to make sure it will get answered
After having my x10 succesfully rooted I no longer have my keyboard on any field, I also tried with long pressing the menu button (which normally would show or hide the keyboard) but with no success . Anybody have a clue how I can get my keyboard back again?
I did enable the HTC_IME btw in the language settings.

I had the same problem, just installed older version, v25 i think, and it works..

Hmmmm for some weird reason it just appeared lol.... I had opened up google search but didn't close as I wasn't getting the keyboard but just had put the phone down for a while as I needed to do some other stuff. When I got back the phone was showing the HTC keyboard and it now opens very quickly every time I go into a field or it at least responds on my long pressing the menu button while I'm in a field

Just install the HTC-IME again

in case it wasn't installed correctly you can also find it in your step4 apps folder from the root package, it's called com.htc.clicker.apk. Copy it to your SD and mount the sd back on the phone and install it from there.
Also make sure HTC_IME is selected in your country settings and text.

Thank you guys, found it in google and installed it. Keyboard is fine.

[HOWTO] Install Swype BETA

Swype is an amazing piece of software, which makes typing on touchscreen only phones (like the Galaxy Ace) much more convenient (I still prefer the stock Gingerbread keyboard.) The SAMSUNG Galaxy Ace comes preinstalled with Swype, so if you try to install Swype BETA (which is updated, and more accurate) on it, you'll get a licensing error - which is very easy to fix:
Root your phone.
Delete /system/app/Swype.apk using Root Explorer or equivalent thereof.
Go to the email you received and click on the link to download the installer.
Follow the instructions given in the installer to finish installing Swype (BETA)!
This should work for any phone which has Swype preinstalled.
nb. You can request an invite for the BETA from beta<dot>swype<dot>com*
*vB won't let me post external links.
Am struck at the last step. It is taking a hell lot of time to download the swype beta. I interrupted in the middle to check if the net is working fine. I am using wifi and it is doing fine. But the download is not getting completed. Is the size of the file being downloaded that big?

swype wont let 'select swype'
I got a problem with my swype beta and its driving me mad.
All os a sudden my ace wouldnt let me choose the swype beta keyboard anymore.
So i deinstalled and then installed the whole thing. Then when it comes down to the screen of the installer where it says 'Enable swype' and 'select swype', I go into the settings, check the box, and have the same problem as before.
I can check the box nex to swype, but it doesnt have any effect, it still wont let me 'select swype'. And it still wont let me select swype as an input method.
I did not move swype to the ext or anything.
Maybe I accidently moved it the first time with link2sd, other than that I honestly dont know the reason for it to stop working in the first place.
Thanks in advance
NEVER MIND!!! simple reboot did it. should have thought of that earlier. still the lesson is not to move swype to ext

Have you tried clicking on the settings button on the android keyboard, like when you are actually typing something, I did notice that selecting it from the Swype setup thing doesn't seem to work.
Also you can try with this app:

It may seem like unnecessary but it may help you.

Never had such a problem. I have linked the Swype beta to SD but never found any problem with it.......
Hi all!!!
I was trying to install an update of this fantastic keyboard since I have my SGA but never could till I found this topic and I downloaded the apk file that is some posts before this one and that´s great, so thanks a lot!!!
The bad thing is that after updating swipe, I lost a lot of internal memory, I had almost 40mb and now I have 17mb...how could be??? swipe pre installed on my phone was almost 10mb, and the new one is a little bigger, 10,24mb, so I should have at least 35mb not 17!!!
If anyone can help me I would be very happy!!!
Thanks

Maybe I understood you wrong, but my suggestion would be that you did not deinstall the preinstalled swype. Swype BETA does not automatically do that for you. Did you mean aou were updating swype beta???
Another explanation could be that your words in the dictionary were deleted when you dit the update. But that would have been a lot of words then...
Thanks for answering!!!
I first installed the apk file of swipe that was posted here and that was when swipe was so big in size and took all my internal memory...then I uninstalled the update bia settings and uninstalled original swipe with Root Uninstaller...but when I tried to install the new apk file posted here it told me that it was not installed...
Finally I unistalled the original file again, installed swipe beta installer, and installed the new version of swipe...Now, it constantly tells me that the swipe process has made an unknown error and must close, I can't even use the phone because the message appears every 3 seconds...
I need help please!!!
Thanks
Edit----------------------------------
Well, here it is what I did, I uninstalled everything, original swipe, swipe installer, I used "Cache Mate" to clear cache, "Titanium Backup" to clear dalvik cache, turned off my phone, turned it on again and installed the apk version posted here, before opening swipe I changed it to phone internal memory and problem of installing and using swipe is solved... but it still occupies more memory than the original swipe... wasn't it supposed to be smaller in size???
Thanks

Wow, sounds like your device really went mayhem on you...
Maybe you could just try to install swype beta once on the normal way, you know webpage, email, link installer, install.
I dont really think that will help with the memory. it is really wierd that it still sucks up memory somewhere, even though you cleaned all caches...
Maybe you could use DiskUsage (Market, for free) to find the bad thing doing that.
Haha, it was driving me crazy but searching for another things I found the UOT Kitchen and I don't know why, but that was all, I made a theme and after flashing it with the "how to" guide in the kitchen page my internal memory came back...I didn't erase a single app, and all apps I have are the same size they where before!
Thanks for answering!
Cheers!

[DELETED LG HOME APP ?] Recovery guide.

Hi,
Recently, I accidentally deleted my LG HOME app from my Optimus One (my phone was rooted). But since I was using GO Launcher Pro at the time, it didn't affect the phone functionality.
But then while playing with the phone I factory reset it, and whoosh ! I was left with no launcher screen at all (LG HOME being the default, which I deleted ). I was left with a blank screen, with just the notification bar.
HERE IS HOW I RECOVERED MY PHONE (and not the LG HOME app):
Step 1: Get a launcher app apk from somewhere and copy it to your SD card.
PS: Search on google 'go launcher ex apk' without the quotes. You can also search for ADW launcher or others (see android market).
Step 2: Turn your phone on.
Step 3: Get someone to call on your phone. Pick up the call.
Step 4: During the call tap the 'Add call button'. You will get the dialer pad, with contacts, call logs and favorites tabs as well.
Step 5: Go to contacts and click the menu hardkey to get the menu. Tap 'New Contact'.
Step 6: When you get the new contact form, tap the image with a '+' sign on it (It is used to add a contact image).
Step 7: Now you will get options as to where to get the file. Select OI File Manager.
Step 8: Navigate to the folder in which you copied the Launcher app (Go launcher, ADW Launcher or the like) and install it.
Voila ! You have a new launcher screen now.
PS : I was relieved when I finally got my launcher back. I was on the brink of flashing my phone to the stock KDW, which could've resulted in a bigger mess (Bricking etc.)
NOTE 1: If you factory reset your phone again, you will lose the launcher again, and will be back without a launcher screen. So make sure you don't do so lest you want to repeat Step 1 thru 8 again.
Word of advice: Make sure you have at least one launcher app installed on your phone (no matter which one, it should run).
USERS PLEASE UPDATE THE THREAD WITH OTHER ADVICES FOR THE PROBLEM.

But then you'd need to install all the android SDK and stuff on your PC.
This is just a work around. Of course, one would be in a problem if you don't have OI File Manager too.
Um, or use search button on phone and search for right app or what ever, search button on phone is pretty useful if you brick your rom. :]

Is my screen too bright, or am I just too ASIAN?!

someone posted to use the search button, well, i used the search button to get me to 4shared.com and downloaded launcher pro. when it was done downloading i pulled down the notification thingy and pressed the download complete icon. it then installed launcher pro and everything is fine. thank u guys for all your help, and i hope this info helps someone else out.
Well,I have fastest method than this
Which I used when I do the same thing
Stock rom have default LG home which u deleted that,s why blackscreen comes
So
Just slide that notification bar and turn on internet and from PC go to market download launcher it will be directly download to your phone bcoz of on internet
And you got your launcher back
Or make flashable zip of home launcher and flash it

Hi Christian. Should I install the attached LG Home only if I have installed recovery mode? I still have access to cell phone's mass storage. Can I install it from there even if I haven't installed recovery mode?

Yes you can extract the zip on sd card and you have to put the app in system/app and set the right permissions. You need root for this and a file manager that read internal storage like Es file explorer.
Hope you understanded my explanation

Using the SHV-E160L in Canada [ICS][Root][CWM][SMS]

I'm making this guide for anyone whose purchased a Korean Galaxy Note and have had a hell of a time getting it to work properly.
In Canada, the Note will only work with Rogers or Fido due to frequency and compatibility issues. Even other networks that support the Note will not work with a Korean Galaxy Note and flashing the telus modems found in other threads has not worked for me, causing the phone to get stuck in a restart loop.
First, upgrading to ICS:
Download the UF13 stock E160L firmware from this website:
http://pspmaster.tistory.com/180
For those with SHV-E160 S and K phones, stock firmwares can also be found on this website with a bit of searching
Flashing:
Put the Korean Note into download mode by holding down the volume down button + home button + power button
- The Note will then display a tonne of Korean text on-screen, press the volume up button to actually enter the download mode
Then run Odin in administrator mode (not really sure if it makes a difference but might as well), make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are the only checked items, click the PDA button and select the firmware file
Then click start and wait till the phone reboots, the loading screen will have a pink U+ logo and it may take some time.
Once it has booted, insert your microSIM card (yeah for some reason it uses a microSIM, other models don't seem to, wtf Korea?) and let it connect to the network. Once it connects you're good.
Rooting:
(courtesy of locomaniac, his thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671987)
Download these 4 files:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/u0rz0tuioj3irhz/cwm-160l-update.zip
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ds3sp7bulu54ckg/samsungE160recovery.tar
https://www.dropbox.com/s/lwuadwg4bx7wjro/Superuser-i717-ICS-signed.zip
https://www.dropbox.com/s/si43ikqpcdbzpod/Tegrak.rec.tar
Put the cwm-update160l-update.zip and the Superuser-i717-ICS-signed.zip onto your external SD card
Then shut off the phone and put it into download mode once again (vol down + home + power)
Once it's in download mode, flash the Tegrak.rec.tar in the same fashion as you did with the UF13 stock ROM, it will overwrite the recovery partition of your phone and your phone will then reset
Power down the phone once again and get it back into download mode, this time you'll flash the samsungE160recovery.tar which will install Clockworkmod Recovery into the recovery partition (not sure why you need the Tegrak recovery as well other than its ability to root the phone but do it anyways)
- Please note, if you only want root and not Clockworkmod Recovery which in my opinion, is stupid, do not flash the samsungE160recovery.tar, just go to http://pspmaster.tistory.com/181 and download the two files that correspond to your model, it does indeed have the E160S and E160K kernels as well. Copy the .zip file into your external SD card, then Flash the .tar file using ODIN then boot into recovery by holding the volume up + volume down + power button until the samsung logo appears at which point you'll have to release the buttons. It will boot into Tegrak recovery, select install from .zip, select the .zip file you downloaded and then restart the phone. Once restarted, you'll have to download Tegrak from the Google play store and open the app and select the root my phone option at which point your phone should have root access. Then download superuser from the Google play store and bam you're golden.
For those of you who want CWM Recovery, once the ODIN flash of samsungE160recovery.tar is done, it will reboot. Shut down the phone, then hold down the volume up and volume down buttons with the power button, let go of them all once the samsung logo appears to boot the phone into recovery mode. It will now be CWM Recovery rather than the Tegrak recovery, select install from zip and select cwm-160l-update.zip and install it. Once installed, you will need to select the reboot recovery option (might be under advanced menu, not sure). Or just power down the phone and reboot into recovery. Once it's in, you'll notice that CWM Recovery has been updated, but the menu options still look the same. Familiarity is good. Now choose install from zip and select the Superuser-i717-ICS-signed.zip file and install that.
Once you're done, reboot the phone and you will now have root access.
Fixing the SMS system:
(instructions courtesy of the crazy Chinese developers over at koxda http://koxda.com/thread-14201-1-1.html)
For some reason, Korea has a different messaging system than anywhere else in the world causing messages to send properly only if you're using a third party app like goSMS, and labeling everything you receive as from an unknown number. Obviously, this is ridiculous, so to fix that, you'll need the root access you just obtained as well as Root Explorer (File Manager), an app you can purchase off Google play or pirate with Mobilism. It's a wonderful app that will let you do anything you want to any file you want.
You'll also need mms.apk which is basically the international version of the messaging system from here:
http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/360753/Mms-apk.html
Copy this file to your SD Card
Now you'll want to open Root Explorer, and open the "system" folder then the "app" folder. Here, find 6 files that begin with SEC-MMS and delete them, you may have to press the mount r/w button at the top to get read write permission but do so and you'll be able to delete the files. Then, copy the mms.apk using root explorer from your external SD card into the system/app folder.
Once you're done, close everything and restart your phone.
Once it restarts, you'll notice that Android will attempt to upgrade something, that something is basically the phone installing the mms.apk for you and it will now appear in the applications list. Open the mms.apk, press the menu touch key and go to settings. Here, you need to change the text input method to unicode and then set the message centre number to +15149931123 for Fido, or +17057969300 for Rogers (can also try +17057969500). Make sure to type in that plus sign or it will not work properly.
*Note the messaging program may crash occasionally, keep trying and it should work, once you're done you'll be replacing the normal messaging system which has become unstable with something else.
That something else is the Handcent SMS app which you can download off Google play for free. Install it, then open the app, go to settings, application settings and press the Default Messaging application button, select All (SMS&MMS). Then press back, click notification settings and uncheck the Enable popup option.
AAAANNND YOU'RE DONE
If you have other Korean Note specific problems like the lack of secret menu options to repair your touch keys (which I had, goddamn you Samsung), send me a pm and I'll make another thread on how to fix it, it involves flashing temporary firmware that I really don't have the bandwidth to upload at the moment.
Mine is 160s and I just want CWM. But I see that the file is for 160L. Are you sure if its working for others than 160L?

I'd suggest flashing the tegrak recovery file for the E160S followed by the samsung160recovery, which should give you CWM at which point you can update CWM and root the phone. However, I have no idea if it'll work, so make sure to have a stock ROM on hand in case things go south for you.

Thanks man! Works for my E160K. Just one comment - looks like also you should have valid MSISDN on your SIM card in order to have it working.
You can check is it so or not in "Settings"=>"Phone Identity" - "Phone number" filed should show your actual nuber with "+" and all prefixes. If it's says "unknown" (and it's easily can) - you should write a correct number first on SIM card using "My phone number" application from market (little chance to work, btw), or other phone (Android-based device with CyanogenMod 7.x, Iphone or lots of SE phones can help).

Excellent point, I remember reading this on the Koxda forum, but I didn't bump into this particular problem myself. For my phone number, the information was under settings --> about phone --> status
I remember reading that the easiest fix was actually borrowing an iphone and with its prevalence these days, it should be easy to find someone who'll lend it for a few minutes. Also, since the e160L has a microsim, it should fit into an iphone 4 without any hassle
good job... man

Thanks to the OP, I replaced the MMS app on my E160L (YAY!).
OK, I found an iPhone that let me 'write' my phone number to the SIM card. It's all done. BUT I can't send an sms with the newly installed stock MMS.apk. Actually, seems like I can send short messages: 70 characters and under using stock but anything longer fails. This seems to have to do with the original Korean models not being able to send anything more than 70 or 80 characters?
The caller ID issue is resolved though. I set the SMSC via the settings as well as via the secret menu accessed via typing 319 712 358 and then the password 0821.
Handcent works for sending and receiving. But I'd also like the stock messing app to work too!
Short of going back to the Telco to ask if they can fix it, anyone have any other suggestions?
not work

Well, according to the original poster in koxda this is the best we've got now. you can completely ignore your stock, and replace it with handcent making it the default app through its options.

160 characters
Is anyone able to send a SMS with more than 160 characters. For me, when it becomes ''2 messages'' (more than 160 characters) the message fails. Does this happen to everyone?

Excellent point, I remember reading this on the Koxda forum, but I didn't bump into this particular problem myself. For my phone number, the information was under settings --> about phone --> status
I remember reading that the easiest fix was actually borrowing an iphone and with its prevalence these days, it should be easy to find someone who'll lend it for a few minutes. Also, since the e160L has a microsim, it should fit into an iphone 4 without any hassle

It's an inherent issue with Korean versions of the Note. The only way to get around this is to use the Handcent app. :-(
Handcent
Yes, I know...
The thing is I'm using Handcent... And still can't send more than 160 characters with it... Always fail.

the best work around here is to grab both messaging.apk and mms.apk from the international version GNote. then replace the stock .apks in the \system\app\ folder. same thing i did with my su-660.
can anybody please post those two system apk's please? thanks.

Unfortunately, this 70 character limit is coded into the Korean operating system and I haven't found a way to get past it... yet. The Chinese appear to be cooking up a custom ROM that uses the American operating system as its base which could get around that SMS character limit, will update when I succeed in getting it to work on my phone.

[Q] Google Search widget

I have always kept the Google Search widget on my homescreen. I have a son who is curious about everything, so I'm often searching things, and I used to touch the mic button to play a song from Google music or dictate a text.
I've had a lot of trouble with my Vibrant lately and have finally gotten FishmanMod Blue 2.2 Frankenstein Slim to work for me. However, I have lost the search widget. When I try to add it from my widget list, all I get is an empty box that says and does absolutely nothing.
I went to Google Play and it said that Search isn't compatible with my device. (The photos looked like Google Now...)
I have tried searching the forums, and came across an .apk that I tried. I moved it from my downloads folder using Root Explorer into the /system/apps folder and rebooted.
Still the same result.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction? Thanks for reading!
when you found the widget and moved it in ROOT did you change the permissions then reboot or just moved the file and reboot ?

I changed the permissions. Basically what I did was looked up the thread where Woodrube said how to install GTalk as a system app. I copied those instructions in order to move this .apk. The permissions I set are:
Owner: Read, Write, Execute
Group: Read
Others: Read
None of the special permissions are ticked.
you dont need execute bro just check read on owner/group/others and check write for owner reboot and check again also you made sure you deleted the other one that was kinda there but not working ??

Thanks for the reply. For the record, I'm not a bro
Reset the permissions as you suggested. I looked for anything else with "google" and "search" in it and found nothing besides what I knew I had moved there. Rebooted, same results. I only see "search" in my widget list and it is still an empty box.
Okay, looks like I'm just completely missing the Google Search apk. I installed a 3rd party widget from the Play Store, and touching the mic activates the voice search (because I have it installed) but tapping anywhere else on the search box does absolutely nothing.
I need to look for the Google Search app itself. Any ideas on how to get it? I can't find it at all on Play store. I need it for 2.2.
im so sorry mama excuse my stupidity and do you have any other 2.2 roms ? you can open up the rom on your phone or computer and open the system folder and look for the google search apk are you familiar n doing that again my apologies

No problem. Please don't apologize. I fully realize and accept that I'm totally in the minority here. No big deal at all. Just struck me as funny.
That's a really good idea. I'll try that. I've got the voice search shortcut on my homescreen, and I can use that. I just dislike change.
Hopefully all this will cease to be an issue when I get my new phone. The Hubs (DigitalMonk) thinks I should wait for the new Nexus to come out on Tmo. I'm not at all sure I don't just want to stick with what I know and go with the SGSIII.
I feel you honestly I love the nexus but I always feel like those phone are never giving enough power etc for they to be top dollar phones and the last 2 had problems with the bootloader and recovery being wiped and volume /power buttons becoming disabled ill stick with what you know samsung phone might be plasticy but there solid IMO but if you was to get the new.phone its like trying to keep up with buying jordan lol stick to something you like not because its new but because its easier for you

Okay first I need to know what Android version you are running. If you are running 2.x, you can only use the old Google SearchBar Widget version 1.x. Do not try installing Google Now to Android 2.x because it is incompatible. You can extract the Google SearchBar Widget from gingerbread "gapps.zip" files: http://goo.im/gapps
If you are running ICS roms and want to use Google Now, there are modded version to make it working.
If you are using Jelly Bean roms, then you should be able to install Google Now from the Market.
If you are installing Google Now to Jelly Bean by manually moving the apk file to /system/app, the app needs a lib file called "libgoogle_recognizer_jni.so". However, the name of this file can change depends on the version you are using. This file is located in the \lib\armeabi-v7a\ folder within the apk file itself, it needs to be extracted and moved to the \system\lib\ folder. If you install the apk using conventional method, it will automatically extract this lib file to the necessary location, so you wouldn't have to worry about all this.
It's not recommended do this manually, but by either flashing the patch, or installing it from the Play Store.
Here is the patch for ICS roms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835199
The patch for Jelly Bean roms is located at SlimRoms website in the addons section.

LG Sunrise keyboard not showing after reset

I decided to go ahead and reset my LG sunrise as I want to do an experiment with multiple devices, but after doing this the keyboard refuses to show. It is installed, it shows as an option in settings, but it doesn't pop up when prompted

Try installing another keyboard and see if you can get one to show up.
Now, I know you can't type because of this but go to the play store and look in "top free" and there's bound to be one in there somewhere.

Perhaps grab an Apk of whatever keyboard you chose and side load it? Have you tried that at all?

How would I do that?
Edit:
Decided to search and I'm thinking I should install through ADB, but if I do that will it install as a system app? Is there a way I can replace the stock keyboard or repair it with this?

Connect the device to a PC if you have one and put the APK on the phone, Use a file explorer and install it. If the device doesn't have a file explorer, Then grab one of those too.
If you really wanted too you could use ADB, You'll need root access though to get it in as a System app.

Ah so, after I install the keyboard I can't go through setup?
Are you stuck in the setup menus? Is that what's happening??
If so then you'd probably have to remove the current keyboard and ADB push a new one.
Have you tried restoring it again to see if it shows after?

Yes, I'm stuck there. I tried using a USB keyboard with otG to no avail, so it seems I'll have to push a new keyboard. How would I remove the old one?

With ADB you can easily remove it, However though, If your not rooted, Then I advise against this because you WILL NOT be able to push it or another app back without root.
