Does anyone know how to convert a android Sprint evo ( HD2 ) to windows 6.5?
Has it been done?
All my software is windows based and I want to upgrade to HD2.
If someone can give me some direction and it has been done that would be nice. I have changed roms on my phone before but never PLATFORMS....
Can it be done?
Or do i need to buy a HD2 windows from Tmobile and unlock it?
Thanks for all the help
Chris
seriously ????
NO you will have to buy a hd2
So you want windows mobile on evo?
There is no way. They can't port it, since they dont have any 4G driver for Evo on WM. but i may be wrong
How about asking this on Evo's Forums?

Look both have differ hardware and offcopurse drivers so not possible to port
If you need WinMo phone, you either need to change carrier and get a HD2, or you need to get the Sprint Touch Pro 2.

I have pro touch2
and I dont think you can unlock a HD2 to work on sprint
Um...nope...you can't "unlock" an HD2 to work on Sprint. Sprint operates on a CDMA network...T-Mobile uses GSM. Phones from the two carriers are hardware incompatible. Sorry...
Why would you Convert an EVO to an HD2(regarding your software)?

It is so 'state of the art' that Google has a nice open backdoor and can add and remove apps to and from your phone any time they like. (And no doubt before long hackers can walk through and pilfer your data.)
All hail our glorious uber leaders.
Android, iOS, WP7, they're all on the same path - total user control. phone software as a service you rent and they control, not as something you own.

I've also heard talk that some Android apps won't even show up or be downloadable from the market if your phone is rooted, (which my wifes is )
They are not the same device. Diff hardware, they both have 4.3" screen and similar body style, but that's about it.
Hell, a bunch of us are wanting the android OS ported over to our HD2s, funny how the grass is always greener on the other side.

I see but why should you be afraid from simple viruses. After all it's a matter of time before someone do something about this.
I was just telling that Android is now the winning platform and WM is dying.
As for WP7 I see this OS to be too 'Serious'.So probably it will not make it.
Two years ago There was life in applications for WM but now a lot of them are no more updated and we are left with old apps while all the devs have moved to Android.
He is very lucky to have an EVO and we are not even seeing new WM builds.

I must say it makes a change to see the boot on the other foot lol,
as far as im aware the hd2 and evo aren't nothing like each other really hence android would be running perfectly on the hd2 by now, and maybe vice versa, and i dont think Android dev's are that keen to have WinMo on there devices mate sorry

AMEN to that .....
Both Android and Iphone have backdoors that allow the "Almighty Creators" to access your phone and tell you what apps you can run ... Not just a Network provider telling you what you can run on your phone, but the damn maker of the OS ..
Don't get me wrong Android is a great OS but it has its shortfalls as does any OS.
I use WinMO because , it may not be an open source OS, but it is a very hackable OS, and I guess I am just a control freak that way ....

LOL its always funny to watch people talk about BS they have no clue about. Don't get me wrong I am a pro *nix guy but I can NOT support Andriod as I know about it. You think M$ is worse? look who Google is and where they will be as they are a bigger threat than M$^3. Ill stick to my HD2 with WM 6.5 and tweak and mod it myself other than that I only trust XDA devs.

He may appear to be the first, but certainly not the only one. I'm just sayin'. Even with the lack of support, and none going forward, WM6.5 is a familiar OS, and that is the draw. I ended up on this forum seeking answers to the very same questions. I've had my htc EVO 4G for only a week. I am a newbie when it comes to "Rooting" and adding custom ROMS, although I did just complete the Rooting process, successfully. I think the phones speed, and Sprints 3G network are very fast! I don't particularly "like" the UI, it feels sort of cumbersome. For being an "iPhone killer", they needed to make the UI less block-like. I am not pro-iOS, nor con-Android. I guess for me, it was more the network and the fact I didn't want a slider phone. If the iPhone was available on the Sprint network, that's what I would have.
I know you guys will rip me apart, but that's OK. Like I said, I am a newbie!
One more thought; yes, the grass does always appear to be greener on the other side, but unless you go to the other side, you can't know for certain if it is or not.
Thanks,

Hi Everyone,
Please comment and contribute to the poll.
Question is whether you would pay £5 to recieve a windows 7 upgrade for HTC HD2
This poll and the comments made are going to be used as a petition to try and get HTC to release an upgrade for all us HD2 owners.
I'm pretty sure that HTC would release an upgrade if people paid for it so please comment and answer the poll
Thanks Everyone
i voted NO because i hate an os that doesn't let you change stuff ( at least thats what the latest news was on that )
after 6.5 i'll turn to Android
As long as I can still hax it and have Android.

Indeed, someone would have to pay me a heck of a lot more than £5 to have WP7
I'd say no on the basis they've stated it won't happen, I'd imagine it'll cost more than £5 per user at their end also
first of all I voted no! even if HTC will pay me 600€ ,I don't will WP7
Fore doing what? first of al I don't like the UI (if we can speak of a UI)
secondly it's to limited.
ow fore give you a answer, HTC wouldn't release a official ROM update fore the HD2 To WP7! It's not authorized by Windows. there are strict ruels.
But you will find cooked roms here.
i dont see whats so special about W7
I had alredy paid 755€ why should I pay 5€ more or should not
but I prefer to donate 10€ to XDA when NAND is realised. (I'm likly hearing your voices -why 10€- because I'm just a simple student)
You REALLY think HTC will take notice of a little petition like this - especially when they've just announced their line of WP7 devices? lol
Really, what is the point of this thread.
If you're that desperate to have 7 on your HD2, just wait for a hacked ROM to appear (then enjoy it's limited functionality!)
No never
Why?
Because i didn't have a credit card lol
And 1thing
U know ,actually i'll be going to NAND Android
WP7 is bull****
if they let me dual boot back to WM 6.5.x yeah

No. More than one reason, but one of the main reasons is: TETHERING
tethering is supported

I would pay. I don't see how so many can be against an OS they've never used. You've seen videos. That's it. I liked WM 6.5. I didn't like Android until I thoroughly used it. I'll invest $8 to give a new OS a shot.
However, this exercise is moot. If HTC released this on HD2 they would have to support it.
Microsoft would never license it on a phone that doesn't meet Win Phone 7 specs.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
I wouldn't.
I don't trust MS enough that they will support this OS for more than a year or two.
Android has support across the world.
what? no multitasking? no nothing i should say, i thought microsoft would do something extraordinary with WM7 to catch up with android, instead they copied and pasted the 1st iphone version.
Finallt i say WINDOWS MOBILE IS DEAD, LONG LIVE ANDROID.
definitely yes
I absolutely would pay 5 pound to upgrade my HD2
As long as it will not effect on the android Os.
5 pound would be nothing comparing to have a completely new OS.
always trying new thing is good. so, Why Not ????????

OT: This thread is totally useless, do you really think HTC will consider this? Devs are currently working on it, so you'd better ask whether people would donate developers if they would have managed to get WP7 working on the HD2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSRFA4eYhw8
Maybe if Microsoft received a few emails that most HD2 users will jump to android then maybe they will think twice about it and force HTC to do a free upgrade. Regarding £5 its not too much to pay but it should be free.
Hey guys, newbie here and I got some questions for y'all.
I am a longtime iPhone user, thinking about switching over to the Vibrant. I'm used to the jailbreaking/unlocking of the iphone...are similar things able to be done to the Vibrant?

Ok a few things.
Yes, you can root the vibrant and install custom roms.
On the iPhone you can install hacked apps, meaning you don't pay for them, techinically you can do the same on an Android phone by just having the apk file, however this is frowned upon because that is stealing. Why not just pay for the app? Apps are cheap on Android.
If you are a current iPhone user and if you purchase the Vibrant, YOU WILL BE UNHAPPY. I suggest you wait for the iPhone 5 which will be released in June, or wait for the dual core Android phones coming out. Do not get the original Vibrant.
Ps...the Vibrant 4G is going to be released soon. You can also get the Nexus S at best buy.
btw coming to xda and saying you don't pay for apps and you steal them was not a wise idea.

OP:
Yes, you can "jailbreak", for Android it is called root, and in turn you can install custom ROMs, Kernels, and for the Vibrant "modems" (radio's on other phones). As for "free" apps, Android, unlike iOS, has TONS of free apps already. Developers tend to offer a free and paid version, main difference is the free version has ads in it. Developers actually make more money off the ad revenue (typically) than the paid versions. There are still apps that are only paid, or the full version are paid only, and to be very honest trying to get those for free is BS in my opinion, especially given the prices.
This site is FULL of all the info you need to root any Android phone and start loading custom ROMs. It is very addictive, and compared to the iPhone, it is like living in America versus living in China in terms of freedom to do what you want. In China (iPhone) you are limited in your ways, and can do as you please to an extent. Where as in America (Android) you are free to do as you please, but have a great infrastructure to help guide you and aid you in such venturers.

I am not on AT&T, I am on T-Mobile. I have had a 3G for the last 2 years, but with the new ios4.3 comes out, it will not have an update for the 3G, they are getting fazed out. So I'm moving away from the iphone for a while, may get a 4 down the road.
I understand cracked apps are illegal, a TMO CSR pointed me to this website, so if cracked apps aren't talked about here fine, I didn't know. I was just going where I was told by Tmobile to get information regarding it. Simple as that.
I have a free 2 year upgrade at TMobile right now, so I'm looking between the Vibrant and the MyTouch 4G. Right now I'm using a Blackberry Bold 9780.

Warez is not just frowned upon, but is grounds for banishment on XDA, and actually every single decent Android site. Explaining how to get it, where to get it, or giving it out is a major no no, and asking (especially after being told) is a no no as well.
This isn't iOS where everything costs money, this is Android where you can literally get 95% of apps for free from the market. There is no need to steal, not that there is on iOS (I have an iPad, love it, and have paid for my fair share of apps even though it is jailbroken).
Lastly, if that is your only desire in a phone, then just don't get one. If all you want to do is use your phone to steal, then you don't deserve to have a phone.

Welcome to XDA! I came to the Vibrant from the iPhone 3G and I love it, as one has said you can steal apps but no one here will help you with that, also apps seem to generally cheaper on android than they are on iOS.
Depending on what you are looking for you may be happier where your currently have. Android's market is growing quiet well but I feel that it currently doesn't match the iOS market when it comes to games, so if games are your thing I would stay away (but we do have great emulators!) Many things may have changed in iOS since I used it last back in 3.0 something another.
Now few things I love personally love about android! Google Voice is easily used, Ive been using it for about 2 years now and haven't given out my real number since, its the best! Google maps is amazing, always getting updates haven't used a standalone gps since. You can customize the desktop however you feel please (don't need winterboard and everything, its just a ton easier). Swype is pure amazing, I could never go back to normal texting after getting use to it, super fast! And finally googles voice integration, you can talk and have it type what is said, you can have it search for you or even open your google maps and have it set your navigation!
As I'm sure you've noticed by now the forum has a lot of idiots who have nothing to add to the community except their derogatory remarks, sadly they don't seem to ever go away do they?

Rooting does what jail breaking did for the iphone. Allows you to do what you normally couldn't. Its also really easy to do, there are a few different things you can use but they all get the same thing done.
When you root you can install new rom's like a 2.3 rom if you wish. There developers who change them how they wish and then share them with the community, you can find them in Vibrant Android Development part of the forums. You can also download new kernels that will allow you to overclock your phone or even underclock if you wish.
In the android market there are some apps that also require you to root your phone to use them. One such app is Titanium Backup, it will back all the apps and stuff you have downloaded so if you install a new rom or lose your phone or something you can easily reinstall everything.
Basically rooting fully opens up your phone, allowing anything.
i have a HTC HD2 thru tmobile, dont really have a problem with it. There just isnt enough apps for it, so i wanted to swith from windows to android. Can i do it or can i take it to an t-mobile store and they do it for me.
First of all, welcome and congratulations to your first post.
If you want to install android, you have to do it by your own.
See this thread as base for flashing anything.
Just be aware that switching a phones OS is no easy task and based on the fact you had to ask if T-Mobile would do it I get the impression your not the most technical person. So my advice to you, and this has your best interests at heart, get a native android device.
Oh and your reason for wanting android is probably the lamest in history. I have seen humans and animals with multiple missing limbs that were less lame

First off, that's a nice welcoming post to a new user. And how is that a lame reason? Yes WM6.5 had thousands of apps (or programs, as we used to call them ) but most of them were ugly as sin, glitchy, or for very specific or technical uses. They were not centrally gathered and it gets harder and harder to track them down. Coupled with no updates, no development, and lots of vital or useful apps missing, it's a fine reason to ditch the dead OS.
I say all this as a massive WM6.5 fan. But Microsoft made it a lame duck, killed it off prematurely, and came out with a nice but not great - and very locked-down - replacement in WP7. For me, Android is the natural evolution of 6.5, and I hope the OP gets on well.
Anyway, to the OP: Welcome! I tipped a new poster some tips on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18719054 - Good luck!
I have used WM6.5 on my HTC HD2 for over a year, and I must say it's just a dead end. I sticked with it, but a week ago I have switched to NAND android and now I'm happier than ever.
I think it takes a few days to read enough about sspl, hspl, magldr etc to understand what you need to do, but I managed to do it in 2 days easily.
If you need help, let me know in PM, I can explain what you should be looking for, it can be a bit confusing.
Cheers.

The above is a structured and decent reason for wanting to drop an operating system (well, if you leave out the part about programs being hard to find etc). WM always took the apporach Windows did to application development and that was "Do it, get it out and then fix it later". It was just how the world worked and still does in some circles.
The reason is lame for the simple reason that it completely ignores all logic and reason. A good reason is, as i said, is like the one quoted above, or more simply, because WM has reached EOF.
As for the tone of my original post, it's not like i screamed obscenities at the OP. I didn't even insult him once and i could have, very easily. Instead, I used my professional experience as an IT engineer and software developer, as well as my experience from years of hanging out on XDA to give an informed opinion on which direction I thought GoBlue should take. If you think it would be more appropriate for me to be rude, obscene, obnoxious, arrogant and generally unhelpful (like most 10 to 18 year olds i seem to run into on these forums and the internet in general) i will gladly oblige. It would not only be funny but also make a mockery of the testing process i had to go through to become a first round RD and i'm sure the XDA moderators would love to see that.

I think OP got enough information from the answers given. Anyway XDA is plenty of threads explaining this. Please use search function before opening a new thread and read the FORUM RULES. I am closing this thread.
I want to try Windows 8 on the S3. Everyone knows it is possible but nobody knows who is working on it nor when it will be available.
I dont think people will bother in porting Windows Phone 7.5 but when Windows PHONE 8 comes out then people will try.
But what about the full beta OS of Windows 8?, just like in the past people were porting Ubuntu over to Android Handsets.
Lets be honest Windows Phone 8 (if it is what it claims to be) will leave Android and Google dead in the water.
Personally, I'm more than happy with Android. If you really want to make this happen though, good luck, but if you are only trying to start a flame war, then please do so somewhere else.

Maybe look at Samsungs new ativ s handset, very similar specs to s3, same size screen, nice looking phone.

maybe windows 8 is the future
you know guys, i think android is the best mobile OS and indeed it is, but some times i am thinking maybe the future will be for windows phone, it is just a feeling, but if we look back to the 90's when windows 95 came out, a lot of people were saying it will fail, it is stolen it is, it is ...etc., but look now, windows is every where.
Microsoft now is taking the right track of developing the windows phone OS, even if we don't like it they are doing a great job and this job will take them some were.
Oh please. You haven't even seen it and you claim it will be better than anything else.
well seen as windows 8 is all closed source getting to to even boot would be a nightmare!

Finally some sense!
Getting wp8 to boot on the S3 will be a mammoth challenge, getting it to the point of a daily driver will be impossible.
No sources, no fun.

Good luck making W8 even run on this specific hardware.
That is, even you could even access the source to begin with, considering it being closed-source. Also, good luck making it public since Microsoft will go Apple on your arse.

I honestly couldn't think of a worse OS for a mobile device. I liked windows os when i had xda's from years ago. then i had iphone and loved that, then moved to android which to me will be the best os for years to come.
the latest edition of windows phone, with tiles . . . . rubbish idea IMO!!!
At least with android you can have what you want where you want and have a good old desktop experience.
Android all the way i say!!
To the OP . . . good luck in your quest to run windows phone 8 on your gs3.
Paul.
If you ask this it feels like you say "Let's port iOS to SGS3." Android is the best OS ever. Not because I'm saying that no because everyone says that. And WP8 is even weaker. Which Smartphones will get that? Nokias, Xingxings or other that. Android is #simplythebest! Sorry bout that but this had to be!
Pozdrav

wait ativ s release then go buy it
WP 8 version of s3
corporate tosh....just like Apple
Open source= anarchy in action= freedom
Enjoy your Windows/Apple slavery....personally I like my freedom
Where there is a will there is a way. If the HD2 can have Android and Windows Phone 7.5, then the S3 can certainly do it aswell.
And to those who think that Windows 8 will not be good and it is just another lame Microsoft attempt etc..
Imagine a day where you could flash ROMS and edit system files without a PC. You think Mobiles will ever allow you to flash another mobile??
Not in the next 10-15 years at least. Mobiles are largley entertainment and communication based.
Where as productivity and production-power will always remain with WINDOWS PCs. Hence, ''WINDOWS'' - Mac is a overated system which will never find a place for Mobile developers.
Why? Because of the price and the lack of customization. -- JUST LIKE iOS.
Windows 8 and Phone 8 will change the surface of Mobile in such a way that it will kill of Apple and then (sadly) Droids.
Android is cool and customizable OS but can be more unstable and insecure then any other.
At least with Windows there is security --- whether on a Phone or PC.

Porting android to a new device is relatively easy, because we have access to the source, hence android on HD2. Porting a closed source OS, windows 8, to a new device is a magnitude harder and illegal to boot.

So I got a new company phone - since my boss wanted to save some money and Microsoft seems to give away the Lumias to companies for almost nothing it became a Lumia 925... hardware seems okay, but I just can't get friends with Windows Phone (too few customization options, very poor choice of apps). Is there any way to install an Android system on these phones? Anything from Android 4.0 on would be fine, but I could even arrange with good old 2.3 if I have to.
I think I remember to have read about a project to develop on this some years ago, but I can't find any information about it anymore. Did they get sued by MS/Nokia?
if you want android, buy android... is impossible to change OS (now or in future...)
try learn more about WP.. is not that bad how you describe... is enough quality apps and if something missing, try find alternative (similar) app in store....
also with upcoming 8.1 upgrade you can do some customization and new options....

Unfortunately wasn't up to me to choose and probably my boss actually thinks he did me a favor with that phone (it was kind of a gift from the company to me, so it would be very impolite to ask for another )

Technically it should be possible, that Lumia is using same processor/hardware as several Android phones. If some sideparts like camera wouldn't work I could deal with that.
I'm also pretty sure I read about a project wanting to bring Android on the Lumias in the past, I just can't find anything about that anymore

I wouldn't trust an "official" app that comes from some guy in China... there seems to be a lot of fake software in the Windows Store, actually I'm afraid that I install some scam that just grabs my personal data/account information. And the Microsoft apps for Facebook, YouTube, etc are more like a bad joke.

I'm anxiously waiting for the update, but I fear it might take some time, since my phone got customized/branded from Deutsche Telekom/T-Mobile and they are not very well known for releasing fast updates... :<
Besides that, by "customize" I don't really mean changing background picture of the tiles... more like add individual widgets on a lock screen, change the launcher layout, ... I will see what that update brings if it finally rolls out, but my expectations are rather low.
I suggest you look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52177866#post52177866
Android on Lumia is new (rumored) Android phone, not flashing android OS on windows phone. you newer get option to flash android on any Lumia because locked bootloader, forget this and ignore message from anaheiim...
if you want upgrade today to WP8.1 you can use Preview for Developer program...
go to http://appstudio.windows.com/
login with your Live account
register to AppStudio
install certificate from http://appstudio.windows.com/Job/GetAet (open this link in IE on phone)
install this app from store http://windowsphone.com/s?appId=178ac8a1-6519-4a0b-960c-038393741e96 and activate Preview for Developers...
and now you can update to WP8.1 or any other future update without wait...
also what app from China you talking??????? also Microsoft check and test every app on Store before publish and wont allow any security risk app... WP store is secure and malware free... dont worry about chinese soft.. LOL
