Hey Guys,
I tried this rom from the beginning.. but there's always been this GPS issue,
I updated Radios, re-flashed Radios after Flashing the rom, always did a wipe,
tried enabling GPS before flashing the ROM (some things, other people helped)
nothing helped for me, and i've also seen, there're many other people out there, which do have the same problem.
I like GPS myTracks, Navi, etc... everything can work fine but I don't want to restart my phone and loose about 10-15% of the power to just en-able GPS... that's way off...
so my question: some guys, brought it to work...
what radios do you use? which kind of version...
how did you flash? anything un-ordinary ;=) etc..
Please, I think there is a solution, except fixing the bug ;P
greets,
I used the latest radio version, but you have to enable gps after flashing the Rom and then restart the phone, once that's done, gps will work with no problems and as far as I know, it doesn't reset if rebooted

not working

Are you disabling GPS and then trying to get satelites?
Is there any reason why you just don't leave GPS enabled? it won't effect anything unless its being used.
true?

Okay, that's a different approach ;=)
So you have GPS always en-abled and it does not drain power? does not effect anything? and is just being used if an application like MyTracks, GoogleMaps etc is beeing opened?
What if GoogleMaps is one of the 6 'last-used' applications? sure about that?
thanks a lot for uR response,
mike

I always have GPS enabled without any battery problems. It is only on and working when an app asks for it. Google Maps stops asking for it when you hit the return button. You can tell that for yourself. When in Google maps you can see the GPS is being used because it shows on the notification bar at the top as an icon of a white dish with green arcs. Then hit return and that icon disappears. All good apps let go of GPS as soon as they are finished with it.
BTW the list you get when you hold down the home button is only a history list - it does not mean they are working in the background.
thanks

Isn't it disturbing you, that GPS is enabled all the time?

Why should it? Just because it is enabled does not mean it is actually on or using any power. It means it is waiting to be turned on when an app I decide to open asks for it. So, for example, my sat nav, google maps, yelp, or google places all turn it on when they open and then turn it off when they finish. They are all "good" in the sense of being well designed apps, that do what they are supposed to. Sorry if you don't like that term but that is what I mean.
Not so well designed ones, like, for example, Shop Savvy don't switch it off. And that is annoying. But in any event I know whether it is on or off by looking at the notifications bar - if the dish icon is there then it is on, if not it isn't, even though I have it enabled.
If it starts coming on randomly then I know I have a rogue app doing something in the background that I have not asked it to do.
hehe thanks man
it's just the thing...
-my location
-GPS
-worldwide
PLUS: en-abled
but i understand now 'good apps' just use it on demand,
bad always have the connection open
just an open connection start battery draining
i just wanted to prevent all this by simple en-ableing it JUST when i need it
like things usally are used turned on - on demand hehe
thx man
finally : it does NOT WORK
so guys...
finally, now tested it about 1 week with the above congifuration...
GPS always on ... on boot... the whole time the phone is up
- @ modaco custom rom: i started any GPS app, and within about 10 seconds, at max 30secs i got a working GPS lock on about 4-7 satellites...
and was able to locate my me
here (vanillain 5.2): i start.. wait.. get 'to see' 2-4-5 satellites (fast) but they don't lock, they vanish for about 1sec, again 5-6 satellites ... sometimes 7 but the just don't lock ---- waiting---- waiting---- ...
i can hold my position: wait for some minutes.. then i ---- get a lock.. then also gps-tracking works... somehow, sometimes
but guys, i really don't have that much time.
I want to get GPS locks during walking.., at any time, fast. i want to get it fast, and everything else ist just '''''BS'''''
so for me: it's not working at vanillain..
that's not worth calling...it works... sry
TIP PS:
guys, switch to 'legendroid 1.01' for working GPS!
i got a lock within 5 secs in my room!!! to 8 satellites...
and enabled GPS after boot (it was dis-abled at boot time) at first boot for the first time,
everything works perfekt
thanks a lot at the developer of legendroid

huge problems...
seconds after booting froyo it freezes on the home screen. this has always been an issue for my with froyo and has never ever happened with gingerbread.
This is a top that started seconds after showing the home screen, however I can't seem to copy and paste it.
This has always happened to me when using froyo, never on gingerbread. However I want to be able to use the 'functionality' of froyo as most things i would like to use are not present in gingerbread.
Managed to pull all the logs possible. See attachment, this was all in /Data/System/Dropbox/
Otherwise i cant run any commands after it freezes up.
From what I can tell there are some interesting results from the processes in the .gz log file
relpath should be written like this: rel_path

Which Froyo freezes on homescreen? XDAndroid or Froyo X?
I've never been able to run XDAndroid properly, it ALWAYS get stuck on the homescreen and you must restart over and over and over....
Froyo X runs awesome, with the latest kernel is very stable and run pretty smooth

FRX04 should work great on any phone supported, assuming you follow the directions correctly...
maybe hw3d stuck your device like overclocking CPU,try to delete hw3d=1
doing exactly the same thing with froyo X red works perfectly
I had this issue since XDAndroid FRX03. And today finally found a solution.
Since FRX03 something is broken with GSM+3G. When booting with force_cmda=1 (resulting no network) or in airplane mode android works fine.
Enabling "Use only 2G" in android kinda work, but this option wont stick (see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711753 ).
Best solution is to disable 3G in WinMo.
You can read here how: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319208
Now I have FRX05 with old data.img from FRX02 working fine
I'vetried to select 2G only and the setting never sticks here either. reading that thread implies that the fix was already committed tho. Did I misunderstand, and he committed to some other repo than XDA is using?
I think this might not have been commited to XDAndroid, but only to "Super FroYo 2.2". However when I disabled 3G in WinMo, "Use only 2G" is grayed out in Android.
set aeroplane mode in winmo. Went into froyo and set aeroplane mode there also, restarted without the freezing issue disabled aeroplane mode and it hasn't froze since. 5 restarts...
i'm finding this post interesting as I dont have service (except wifi) and have been unable to get anything other than a frozen android device (cant call it a phone wthout service!) mine is a rhod500.
Guess I'm try to get it into airplane mode and see if I can regain control of my machine (kinda wish i had not deleted the old data.img now during my 'debugging')

You were right, it wasn't committed to XDAndroid. In fact there were a lot of fixes on the original repo that were never committed to XDAndroid. I've set up a clone and merged them all in here:
http://gitorious.org/~hyc/xdandroid/hycs-hardware_xdandroid-ril/commits/androidhtc1
I also fixed several bugs that weren't fixed in either of the previous source trees as well (mostly memory leaks). So far it's working well on my phone, but it will be a few hours before I know if the SoD problems are gone. I've also attached the binary here if anyone else wants to try it out.
Please continue the discussion in the new thread

OK, since you mentioned it. Code now does netloc parsing. But since I don't have a CDMA phone, I have no idea if it actually works... If you have a CDMA phone and are willing to test this library, please grab a copy of "logcat -b radio" starting from as early as possible in the boot, to a couple minutes after boot finishes, and paste it up somewhere I can see it. Thanks.

Can you explain what application you are running and how you make it work as you turned the phone on ?
You can download this GPS Test from the market to test your GPS signal strength.
Read the following posts:

I can't seem to get my HTC Flyer to keep a good GPS lock. It can see the sky fine, and will get a lock, but then loses it shortly after. I was driving around for a good 25 minutes and it probably had a lock for 1/5 of the time...I am stock on Honeycomb. Ideas?
I've read that one of the problems people have had with the honeycomb update is the GPS trouble you are having with it losing lock.
I have yet to put honeycomb on mine for worry of the very same problem you are having.
Well shoot, is there a way to revert or install a ROM that fixes this issue?

The solution so far is "revert to Gingerbread if you want GPS locks to stick again," unless you want to wait for a new Honeycomb build from HTC that fixes the bug.
There is a thread in the Flyer Dev section that includes a few fixes. Some have helped, but appears the general consensus is this is still broke. Good to check there every so often to get the fix, or even better to contribute to resolving!

Thank you for the link, but it looks like I am going to try and downgrade to GB.
I just received a phone call from a very nice young man at HTC Support.
He is escalating the GPS problem and requested that anyone with the problem to go here and request help … http://www.htc.com/us/support/e-mail.
I also received this email …
“Dear Gary Mattingly,
Thanks again for that valuable information. Again, please recomend that any users having this problem contacts us by email or phone so tha we can document the issue.
Please note that this goes for any issue on any device after any update. We need to know what is going on.

I really doubt that that support link will do much good.
They just read from scripts, all they will do is send you vague links help FAQ's that dont even have anything to do with your question.
Something don't work right better off googling

The first email exchange I had with HTC they did read from a script.
In my second exchange I better explained the GPS problem and received a reply requesting a phone number to discuss the problem with tier 2 support.
During this conversation he stated “it would be helpful if we could get the users at XDA to complain because the more problem reports they received the harder it would be looked at”.
I don’t believe he was reading that from a script.
If we can take the time to respond to a post here, it seems to me we can take the time to follow the link and request help.
You never know, it may just help.
I e-mailed HTC customer support to help with the GPS isssue and received the following reply:
I would first recommend to perform a soft reset. This is done by pressing and holding down (aka "long press") the Power button until the Flyer powers down (typically 15-30 seconds).
Next I'll have you select All Apps > Settings > Location > Make sure that all location options are enabled.
Remember that the GPS signal cannot pass through solid non-transparent objects. Signal reception may be affected by obstructions such as high-rise buildings, tunnels, bridges, forests, weather (rainy or cloudy days), etc.
Lastly if this does not work, navigate to the Market (Play Store) and download GPS Test by Chartcross Limited. Use this application to find your GPS location. To use this app, I recommend that you are outside with a clear view of the sky, preferably 360 degrees of horizon for the best results. This allows the device to detect all GPS satellites that may be in range. For help with this app, tap Menu > Help from within the app. Google Maps should now display the correct location.
I've tested this for about 15 minutes while connected to a wifi hot spot (receivng a 4g connection). It did appear more stable on receiving GPS signals and not repeatedly going into GPS searching mode.
After working through the various suggestions offered by customer support I was contacted by HTC over the week end to discuss the GPS losing signal while navigating. It appears they are serious at working a solution for the GPS problem for the HTC Flyer.
Any further developments on the support front?
Hey, I know you!
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
Complaint sent.
I sent a message to HTC support about it for the hell of it.
They sent a reply telling me the following
I understand that your having issues with the GPS after the Honeycomb update. I can see how this can be very frustrating however I will be more than happy to help you find a resolution. I recommend using the recovery mode to wipe the cache partition as this is a great way to fix any errors that may have occurred during the update. Clearing the cache partition does involve erasing corrupted data from your Flyer but this will not erase any personal data that you may have put on the tablet.. To erase the cache,
1.Completely power off the device.
2. Press and hold the volume down before, during, and after you press the power button for 12 seconds.
3. Once you reach the hboot screen, use the volume buttons to highlight recovery mode and press the power button.
4. When you reach the screen with exclamation point, Press and hold the volume up while you press the power button once.
5. This will lead you to the final screen which you would use the volume buttons to highlight "Wipe Cache Partition" and press the power button.
6. The screen will eventually highlight "reboot system now" which you will press with the power button. This will scan and erase any errors that may have been within the cache; allowing your phone to boot up normally. I hope you find this information useful and thank you for being a part of HTC.
Anybody ever try this before?
Yes, but not for the GPS. Why?
Today I've installed 'GPS Status' from Google Play. It narrowed down the precission with almost a factor 9. Maybe this would help with your issue. Let us know if you try it.
Ill give it a shot, cant hurt to try.
So I installed GPS status today.
Opened it, cleared cache and Downloaded the data.
Opened waze and set a destination and I magically kept GPS lock the entire trip.
Cut to few hours later, Im heading home and couldn't get gps to even lock.
turned GPS off then on, recleared cache etc..
Waze got lock, but was still losing it every few seconds. Was a little quicker re-locking but still not full lock.
Not sure why it worked so well this morning and so bad later on.
Any ideas?
Looks like I will have to root it then patch and all that.

hey guys, I somehow can't get a GPS lock when I'm running SlimBean, but I can get it when I'm using Neat ROM. How do i get it to lock when I'm using SlimBean?
Did you read other users experiences in SlimBean thread? It's probably a problem with the ROM or kernel, try a different rom or version or kernel.
Since flashing 4.3.1 and now Im using 4.4 Pound rom, I have had major GPS problems too.
Sometimes, it could take upwards of 5 minutes to find a lock. If I flashed back to stock 4.1.2, it looks within seconds. I've searched all over the internet for a solution. Flashing gps config files and enabling static GPS and trying tons of programs from the play store, nothing worked.
So what I do now is when I want a quick fix, I enable the GPS to not only look for the GPS satellites, but to also use the network. For some reason, this gets me a fix within a few seconds. I can then disable the network part and try again and it fixes instantly.
I cant explain it, but whatever, it works.

your stock sammy rom is probably localised to your country whilst a custom rom is not.
Try gps-fix apps from the play store. Or a new kernel
