hi,
im having some problems with gps fix. its very wierd.
im currentle on v8 for 4 days.
at the first 2 days GPS was superior I got a lock within a few seconds.
Since yesterday I could not get the lock at all.
Someone knows what happens?
I want to mention that It happens also in 2.37 miui rom.
so idk if this happens to everyone but this is what i notice happens to my phone. after a couple of days or the gps will stop working untill i reboot. when i reboot my phone i have to make sure to launch the gps test app as soon as my phone boots and has connect to 2g/3g. if i dont do this my gps wont work

Can you explain what application you are running and how you make it work as you turned the phone on ?
You can download this GPS Test from the market to test your GPS signal strength.

Hey Guys,
I tried this rom from the beginning.. but there's always been this GPS issue,
I updated Radios, re-flashed Radios after Flashing the rom, always did a wipe,
tried enabling GPS before flashing the ROM (some things, other people helped)
nothing helped for me, and i've also seen, there're many other people out there, which do have the same problem.
I like GPS myTracks, Navi, etc... everything can work fine but I don't want to restart my phone and loose about 10-15% of the power to just en-able GPS... that's way off...
so my question: some guys, brought it to work...
what radios do you use? which kind of version...
how did you flash? anything un-ordinary ;=) etc..
Please, I think there is a solution, except fixing the bug ;P
greets,
I used the latest radio version, but you have to enable gps after flashing the Rom and then restart the phone, once that's done, gps will work with no problems and as far as I know, it doesn't reset if rebooted

not working

Are you disabling GPS and then trying to get satelites?
Is there any reason why you just don't leave GPS enabled? it won't effect anything unless its being used.
true?

Okay, that's a different approach ;=)
So you have GPS always en-abled and it does not drain power? does not effect anything? and is just being used if an application like MyTracks, GoogleMaps etc is beeing opened?
What if GoogleMaps is one of the 6 'last-used' applications? sure about that?
thanks a lot for uR response,
mike

I always have GPS enabled without any battery problems. It is only on and working when an app asks for it. Google Maps stops asking for it when you hit the return button. You can tell that for yourself. When in Google maps you can see the GPS is being used because it shows on the notification bar at the top as an icon of a white dish with green arcs. Then hit return and that icon disappears. All good apps let go of GPS as soon as they are finished with it.
BTW the list you get when you hold down the home button is only a history list - it does not mean they are working in the background.
thanks

didn't knew that, just thought those are those (for developers) who are in 'pause' mode, others are closed... thought i've read this somewhere.. but not sure..
Isn't it disturbing you, that GPS is enabled all the time?

Why should it? Just because it is enabled does not mean it is actually on or using any power. It means it is waiting to be turned on when an app I decide to open asks for it. So, for example, my sat nav, google maps, yelp, or google places all turn it on when they open and then turn it off when they finish. They are all "good" in the sense of being well designed apps, that do what they are supposed to. Sorry if you don't like that term but that is what I mean.
Not so well designed ones, like, for example, Shop Savvy don't switch it off. And that is annoying. But in any event I know whether it is on or off by looking at the notifications bar - if the dish icon is there then it is on, if not it isn't, even though I have it enabled.
If it starts coming on randomly then I know I have a rogue app doing something in the background that I have not asked it to do.
hehe thanks man
it's just the thing...
-my location
-GPS
-worldwide
PLUS: en-abled
but i understand now 'good apps' just use it on demand,
bad always have the connection open
just an open connection start battery draining
i just wanted to prevent all this by simple en-ableing it JUST when i need it
like things usally are used turned on - on demand hehe
thx man
finally : it does NOT WORK
so guys...
finally, now tested it about 1 week with the above congifuration...
GPS always on ... on boot... the whole time the phone is up
- @ modaco custom rom: i started any GPS app, and within about 10 seconds, at max 30secs i got a working GPS lock on about 4-7 satellites...
and was able to locate my me
here (vanillain 5.2): i start.. wait.. get 'to see' 2-4-5 satellites (fast) but they don't lock, they vanish for about 1sec, again 5-6 satellites ... sometimes 7 but the just don't lock ---- waiting---- waiting---- ...
i can hold my position: wait for some minutes.. then i ---- get a lock.. then also gps-tracking works... somehow, sometimes
but guys, i really don't have that much time.
I want to get GPS locks during walking.., at any time, fast. i want to get it fast, and everything else ist just '''''BS'''''
so for me: it's not working at vanillain..
that's not worth calling...it works... sry
TIP PS:
guys, switch to 'legendroid 1.01' for working GPS!
i got a lock within 5 secs in my room!!! to 8 satellites...
and enabled GPS after boot (it was dis-abled at boot time) at first boot for the first time,
everything works perfekt
thanks a lot at the developer of legendroid

Then stick to the stock ROM. I have no problem picking up GPS position very quickly with my unrooted unmodded Hero. And I get it when I am walking or driving
thanks just modaco is enough

vanillain 5.4 - gps works with radio version: 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.08.29 - boot with GP
so guys.. i can confirm...
using this radio (i need to boot with GPS en-abled..) but at least...
i always get a GPS signal and lock within minutes...
>>>gps works with radio version: 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.08.29 - boot with GPS on<<<
I am looking for a custom ROM that will work well with GPS and asat nav on the phone, hopefully google navigation.
Any that can be reconmended?
Also how do you install the radio on the phone?
Thanks
villain 5.4 works well with Google navigation.

I was just running 5,3 and it never found the GPS for some reason, it kept saying searching for GPS
what i did on villain was turn the gps on, restart the phone and just leave the gps on.
got a fix in 5 secs and really doesnt effect the battery much.
5.3 is really strange for GPS for me. When it finds my location it's great but often wont pick up where I am or thinks I am somewhere random.
GPS in Androbin beta r2 work good. I try it with google maps, ndrive and with "GPS test" app and no problem.
Sometimes I must wait for signal long time, but this is same as with original HTC ROM.
just installed sensehero 2.1 and finding that it wont get a fix on the GPS.
Is there a reason for this, or should i just leave it on and hope for the best?
just used soulehmoo's advice and it seemed to do the trick, but its on sensehero now. seems to work nice too. liking the background
I also tried aHero and sometimes i got a fix, but i never felt i was as good as when i had WM. Never tried a HTC so don't know how that worked
Villain 5.4 fixes a lot of GPS issues (have no problems any more)
if you have any problems (this goes for all 2.1 rom), do any of the following actions:
Reboot your phone with GPS on. Most of the times, this fixes everything
Reflash your radio ROM with GPS on when you shut down you phone to go into recovery mode
Radio doesn't need to be the latest version, latest version had connection and battery issues here (doesn't say you will have them also)
cool. thanks will try that, but how do I flash the radio? I'm pretty new to the flashing of ROMs.

same way you flash a rom. don't pull the battery, wait for it to reboot.
so i have to wipe the card and then put that on,flash it then reinstall a rom?

There's no need to wipe the card first or to reinstall the ROM afterwards. Also, iirc, the radio flashing actually takes place on the first reboot, not straight after you choose the recovery menu option to apply the update. You should be aware of this as a few people have been confused by it & done a battery pull in the middle of the update, with brick shaped results. As kendong2 says, don't pull the battery during the update procedure.
ah so i just put it on my SD card, and then click it like i would a rom, restaret the phone and let it do it?
I shall try that
Thanks
yes.....................
will that way work and still allow my Rom to work as well? I.won't notice a change?

None of the 2.1 ROMs has a 100% working GPS so far. All those "tricks" like rebooting with GPS turned on or reflashing the radio only work exactly one time. The next time GPS is turned off it's almost impossible to get a fix again.
If you want working GPS, go for a 1.5 ROM!
Hi everybody,
I am using 63.18.55.06OU_6.35.15.01 radio rom but the GPS won't work.
Everytime I turn on the GPS, the icon is blinking continuously but never connect. Anybody knows how to fix it? Thankyou very much.
rebooot with gps on & see if that makes a difference.
yea i had the same problem updated to newest radio like you still had it, tried rebooting with gps on still didnt work (this is in navigation)
i downloaded gps test and left that running, then opened navigation and it was able to work!
so to get to work download gps test and leave running when you need to use your gps!
i dont know why this happens, or why it works as a work around but it does for me
Yep. the GPS test trick is working also for me. Anyway if Wifi is on there is no way to make it work :-/ Dammmmn it's the only bad point on this rom. I hope the devs will update a fix soon

Did you try the app "GPS TEST"?
Greetings. As i describe at the title when i try to enable GPS it takes like 10-20 minutes every time to connect. Is this normal?Using GPS Test i see that usually i have 6-10Satelites in view.
I use latest Radio and Roufianos 1.1 ROM.

it sounds odd indeed because i haven't any problem with the GPS...
Did you post it on roufianos's thread ? He may help you better than us and people who have his rom will say if they have that problem..
Using various ROMs and Radios i have a problem everytime i use GPS....I switch it on it wont work, have to leave it switched on then power off phone and when i switch back on it works so your problem is not as bad as mine .
I found a quick solution to this though, I use fast reboot which takes seconds (rather than wait through the whole hero boot sequence which is rather long)
You can get fastboot from my twitter @richiemonks0 if your interested (loads of apps updates regulary on my twitter so follow me =D)
Not a solution but a workaround. Sorry i couldnt help much
Hello guys.
I got a Problem with the GPS in several Custom Roms. (Im on a MIUI rom right now) When i enable the GPS, go in the GPS Status & Toolbox App, it shows me usually 8-10 satelites. But it wont Connect not even to one single Satelit. When i flash a Samsung Firmware, it connects without Problems. It takes 10 seconds. When i try, and go to a navigation app, it searches 5 mins for a gps signal. after 5 or more minutes it connects to 1, max. 2 satelites. I already tried the app GPS FIX, but it didnt work for me. Its a really annyoing Problem and i really want to solve it. Does anyone have any Ideas?
Ps: Sry for my bad english, i hope you understand what i mean.
