Hi all,
Have been mucking about with my Vodafone v1605 and the new HTC ROM. Had a play with the 'green' theme and decided to try and go back to Vodafon colours etc (basically the Vodafone extended ROM).
So, unlocked the Extended ROM, deleted the HTC stuff and replaced with Voda's. No problem.
When I hard reset the device it appeared to be loading HTC's stuff again???? I hard reset again and this time soft reset before the extended ROM could load. I now had a very vanilla WM5 setup
I now unlocked the ext rom again and went to re-import the Vodafone stuff...but it was allready there.
So - I ran the autoupdate and it stared to run. However, after a few secs it complained it could not find \Windows\vodafone.bmp. I ok'd and it carried on.
After all this I have a semi-vodafoned TyTN.
Anyone know what I need to do?? Does anyone have the vodafone.bmp so I may try again??? Is there an easier way to do this that I am missing???
Thanks - Rich
Some more digging found the following:
By simply taking any of the PNG splashscreens available on this site and calling it vodafone.bmp and placing it in the WINDOWS directory I can get the Vodafone extended ROM to run.
However, with teh ROM run I do not get the Vodafone theme or the phone skin or today plugins (guess they belong to the actual ROM not the extended). I do however get a 3 symbol....
In the end I gave up playnig and went back to the HTC extended ROM. Sure, green might not be 100% me but it's a nice change

Questions
Which ROm are you using instead the Vodafone one ?? Did you had screen calibration problems with the old ROM ? Changing the old ROM for the new one fixed this stuff ??
Ok this problem is related to the pre autorun issue that is availavail in the hermas verient....that means not only that the file willbe installed from the extrom bit also a part of extrom is kept in mail ce rom which will install before the installaton of ext rom...you can see it easily as the wait for 3 sec message after a hard reset will came twice the first time for pre autorum and second one from autorun...
now as u using the tytn rom s the pre auorun cnfig is still there which will install the green htc theme and default ie homepage and some other things like hsdpa anaval and some customised operator setting....so it doesnt matter what ext rom you use if u use the tytn main ce rom then u cant ignore them if not u reset just before first 3 sec wait massage and as a result u will not get the complete vodaphone ext rom addons as for vodaphone cd imate too there has some setting which relies on main image not on ext rom...
i think this explainaiton should clear it a bit..
thanks
Please excuse my ignorance on this issue but I am new to WM.
I have a vodafone V1605 with WM5 on it, I have obtained the official HTC TyTN WM6 ROM.
1. Can I flash the ROM to WM6 on this device?
2. I have backed up the device and saved the VF settings (MMS, web etc) is there anything else I should do before I attempt to do this?
3. What is the potential the brick the device if something goes wrong? / What issues may I need to be aware of to stop me bricking the device?
Many thanks for any advice.
v1605 cant upgrade
I have a similar situation but dont know how to back up the Vodafone settings. How do you do that? I tried installing the update but as I have read since this will not work on a Vodafone handset. Not too sure exactly what to do or if its a risky move to try...
Any help would be great.
Thanks
samo problem
can i just flash it or no ?
READING and learn BEFORE..........
Perhaps you can beter read this forum. Even better try the WIKI.
Don't do anything if you are not sure.
It took me about 14 days before I even dared to upgrade my radio. Then after a few days I upgrade my OS.
Now I'm almost flashing after 2 or 3 days a new or enhanced version of OS trying out and testing.
It's a fun hobby but read carefully!
Try also - The HTC Guide: Hermes (aka MrVanx's Hermes Upgrade Guide)

That doesn't sound good. Tell us when you've found one that works properly.
V1605 Upgraded
I have upgraded my V1605 using the HTC official ROM.
Use the WIKI - it has loads of useful hints and tips!
I did unlock my device using the Hermes unlocker first (if you follow the instructions this is pretty straight forward).
I then applied the ROM update and it worked without any issues.
To complete I used the HTC operator setup tool to put my Vodafone settings back on the device (MMS, WAP, Web etc).
I now have a WM6 V1605.
So do review the WIKI as I am sure many people state, but after a few days reading and a decision whether to unlock or use HardSPL it is pretty straight forward.
I've update the 1605 few weeks ago without problems.
Follow the wiki and read some thread before, justo to understan what are you doing.
No particular problem in all the procedure.
Now I have superCID, SHAPS ROM 3.54b, and 1.50 radio.
The brik goes faster and much better.
Enjoy
Upgrade v1605 to HTC TyTN WM6 and upgrade radio too

Official HTC Caution:
1.Upgrading the ROM Code erases all of personal data and custom-installed applications from the device. Make sure all of your personal information and data are backed up to your PC via ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center. After updating the ROM, copy the data back to your mobile device and reinstall your applications.
2.Third-party applications may have compatibility issues with Windows Mobile® 6. Please consult with the software developer(s) before upgrading to Windows Mobile® 6.
3.Make sure the remaining battery power is above 50% before performing a ROM upgrade.
4.Before upgrading the ROM, remove the microSD memory card from your device.
5.Do not disconnect the USB cable or start other applications on your PC while the ROM upgrade program is running. Doing so may cause the upgrade program to fail. In the worst situation, your mobile device may fail to boot.
6.The entire ROM upgrade installation process takes about 15-20 minutes. Please wait patiently.
7.When the upgrade has completed, the mobile device will reboot and start installation of certain components automatically. This takes about 3-5 minutes.
8.If you are not familiar with these operations or if you don’t know how to work with your PC, please visit your distributor or contact us for assistance.

Apologies for the new thread.
I bought a HD2 off ebay a few months ago and have a had numerious problems using it as a phone, goes from 4 bars to none every couple of mins cuts off mid call, basically doesnt work inside the house. I called HTC support & they took the serial number then told me it was a "demo" phone and unsupported, I went to the website to see if I could download a ROM update but my serial number was not accepted trying to download any of the roms.
It was running 1.66.405.2 ROM
So, using a serial number off here I downloaded the 3 roms off the HTC website and tried to install them everytime getting the "Invalid Vendor ID" error. I then installed HSPL3 then tried to install one of the 3.14 ROMS using the SD card route, it got to about 2% then rebooted with the error "Software update failed, please try again" and when i go to Bootloader it shows "SPL-3.03.0000"
Anyting I can try to get this back up? even if its just to give to the kids for playing music / videos!
Is it worth going down the goldcard route?
Regards
Paul
its just possible that you may be stuck, with goldcard the only option.
You made two mistakes.
firstly, using hspl to run a 3.14 rom leads to instability and memory problems. You cant do it that way with 3.14.
secondly, flashing the 3.14 rom from sd card was a double bad move, because 1 - its not for your device, and 2 - the fact that hspl is there lets it skip the warning initially and update the spl to 3.03.0000, which wouldn't have happened if hspl wasn't there.
You now need to find the correct stock rom for your device to downgrade spl 3.03.0000. Normally i would say find a 1.42 or 1.66 rom, (for the correct carrier if rom locked, or for HTC if not)
You didnt say which 3.14 rom you used (noob omission, lose a point ) se we cant yet rule an area out. for example, if it was the wwe htc 3.14, then we know the phone is branded (pretty likely if its a demo)
ALternative to trying every 1.66 rom you can find, is goldcard. That will allow the 3.14 rom of your choice (or indeed any stock rom) to flash no problems, hspl not required.
Yeah you learn by your mistakes!
Think I eventually got sick of the thing cutting off it was about as much use as a brick as it was! & HTC support were about as much help as hammer! Told me it was an old model & I should consider upgrading!
I've tried 1.43, 1.48, 1.66 all off the HTC website, went through all the other carriers as well entering my serial number in with no luck. The ROM i used was
RUU_Leo_S_HTC_WWE_3.14.405.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship this is what was on it before I ran the update.
Os Version - 5.2.21869 (21869.5.0.81)
Manila Version - 2.5.19211619.0
ROM V - 1.66.405.2
Rom Date - 1.11.10
Radio Version - 2.07.51.22.2
Is there anyway to find out who the carrier would be from the serial no?
only by trying to download every rom for every carrier for every region, and theyre not all on teh website,,,,
goldcard would be your best bet.
Is there any way to create a goldcard when you can only get access to the bootloader on the HD2?
The steps outilined in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=642486
3:Get the SD card's Serial number & Make the Gold Card
--a: Unplug your HD from the PC and Plug it back in select ACTIVESYNC on your LEO
--b: Run PSAS, Calculators/Generators > Generate HTC GoldCard >
--c: Select LEO from the Drop-down box
--dress "Get SD Card Serial from WINCE Device"
--eSAS should see all the drives on your HTC Leo/HD2. Make certain the correct size disk is sellected. For example, I inserted a 512MB SD card so - Beneath the (CID) box you should see something like " Disk Nr.: 04 - Disksize 512 MB"
--f: Now that the correct disk is selected, press "Save Goldcard Image to WINCE SD"
--e: you should see "Done writing SD Card to WINCE Device.
I get the error message "could not open connection, device connected?"
When I turn on the phone all I get is the bootloader menu page!
Resolved
Ok its now sorted,
I bought PSAS and made a goldcard using my old HTC touch. I then installed the 1.66 rom before updating to 3.14
I still have the same phone reception problem, would it be worth trying a different radio to see if that would fix the reception problems?
Thanks for all the help and advice.
Paul
you can't change the radio when running 3.x, because there is no hspl to allow it, sspl can't flash radios and goldcard is for stock roms.
So I'd need to goldcard it back to 1.66 or such then try a few radio roms to see if it will fix the reception problems? Whats the chances a new radio would resolve it?
I looked through as many posts as I could but maybe I'm not doing it right.
I flashed the android 2.2 ROM on my HTC HD2 from O2 but now I need to go back to windows 6.5 which was originally there. I dont have the official ROM and I would be very thankful if someone could send me the correct link to how to do it or how to get the official ROM.
Just a reminder I have an O2 HTC HD 2
Thanks to anyone and everyone who helps !
you didnt say which country, so i will assume UK.
first, run hspl.exe (the one you used when you installed hspl) but this time choose 2.08.0000
then
get 1.72 from htc website
http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=297&cat=2&dl_id=960
phone into bootloader, connect usb, run the 1.72 rom.exe
If you didnt mean UK, go to teh htc website, choose your country, choose your phone, click support, downloads, change the dropdown from 'all' to 'rom updates', find teh one that says o2 and use that.
thanku
thanks bruv ... ill look into it !
i still have an issue that the phone keeps restarting or gets stuck in a while !
There's a 3.14 rom, you could try that, but it could also be faulty....
unable to flash 3.27 rom on my htc hd2 ........its a t mobile product but unlocked as i use it in india so i tried to flash asia version but it start and completes only 8% thn nothing happens and gives error [262]:which says
UPDATE ERROR
This error occurs during the CE ROM code upgrade process.
Solution: If this happens, you can just soft-reset the device and run RUU again. The update process will then continue.
Note: At this stage, the Wince is destroyed; instead, it is in upgrade mode
Its goes to the tri color screen where it says upgrade ROM code error Please try again.
Plz help
in download mode it says:
PB81110 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x50
your device is CID locked which stops none t-mobile roms flashing.
First thing you MUST DO is check what version HD2 you have:
if it has green & red, call/end keys it is the t-mobile USA version (TMOUS) & flashing the wrong radio on that model will result in a bricked device.
if you have standard model with white icons on keys then you will need install HSPL prior to flashing the ROM update, HSPL will bypass CID fixing 262 error ...
HSPL & ROM links for all models including ROM direct download links for TMOUS HD2 can be found in HD2 wiki.
Go look & read it all & be sure you know what you doing before proceeding to flash ...
can u tell me how to unlock cid and can this screen tell me about the rom whether it is 512 or 1024.....
I see you have HSPL already.
are you flashing from computer or trying sd card flash ?
I would also assume it is 512 EU version from details above
try the latest HTC Generic WWE ROM from Wiki section & perhaps try HSPL4 to reflash HSPL as maybe corrupted nand issue. Also do flash from PC via USB cable & make sure PC has activesync or WMDC installed (all can be found in HD2 Wiki)
i m flashing it from my pc as my phone doesnt start when i switch on it stuck on screen saying SOFTWARE UPDATE FAILED PLZ TRY AGAIN......
i tried to flash HSPL4 but it gave me error http://prntscr.com/1stcv1 ......
n also i have WMDC but i doesnt show up my phone but in tri color screen mode it shows usb....
yes it hav 512 rom
Sounds like corrupted nand & model id is perhaps corrupted too.
Try resetting via reset button.

thanx a lot......just performed task29 and got htc white screen and now can u tell me which rom to flash n can i make it converted to android:good::good::good::good:
First get it fully working on a WM6.5 ROM & test it for 2 or 3 days, then if good look at the Android nand section & look for a Android build you like & has good feedback & current support.
Post 4 above has a link to an HD2 HTC generic WM6.5 ROM but you can choose something else if needed by looking at the ROM links in the HD2 Wiki

Hello xdriver,
if you want Android on yor phone you mighr opt for installing via NativeSD method, giving you the advantage of trying out different builds and choosing the one that suits your needs at best. Also, if somwthing goes wrong you always have WM fully functional on NAND. But consider buying a decent SD card first, meaning one with exceptional good random r/w access speed. You'll find tutorials in the SD section.
Have fun!
