Probably not quite so simple. Currently rooting the X10 involves entering three commands into a terminal on your computer, booting your phone into recovery mode, and pressing a button on the phone during step 2. The terminal commands could be called from a GUI app that would simplify that and there might be a way to have adb reboot the phone into recovery mode, but there's still a bit of interaction you need to do with the phone yourself.

It's already too easy, and if you can't figure it out, it's probably a dangerous idea to root it because you could ruin your phone easily and most likely not know how to repair it.

The Process to root the X10 isn't too hard with a little bit understanding. If someone can't figure it out , he doesn't need root.
Just my 2cent no offense.

Agreed. This is already simple IF you know your way around a computer just a little. It is well explained and now with video tutorials if you still can't manage to do it, don't do it. Keep your phone up to date, you don't need anything more at this point. No offense intended here too

We are not able to create a one-touch root ATM.
And even if we would be able, why should we do? This Root is easy! The only problems here are driver issues and DeviceID problems.
So for everyone this is not simple enough its a good idea so stay on stock firmware.
A little interaction with phone is good at all, because you learn much about this progress if you just read in the files we provide (thats another reason we released this in batch format).
So just read a bit and you will see how simple the whole idea and the process is!
If you are not expert enough to understand whats happening i'm not sure if you really need root then
Best Regards

Some people are lazy to figure out the steps.
Dont overfeed them too much.
I tried all the process of rooting on X10 up to the first root batch, the one with long method up to this date of root and its very easy. There are Tutorials and Video.

No, we are not lazy but affraid to break the phone. Ive had OmniaHD before X10 and there was custom ROMs from the man called HyperX that was only double click and connect the phone. I am not saying that those guys didnt make this as simple as they can but there are 100 of problems and tutorials, there are some decrypted ROMS and Official ROMs, there are methods that need Device-ID number and other that does not need that...so, I am reading all of this since root was official and I cannot find one way that is said to be the best and with no problems.
Also: how do I get my ROM that is on the phone on my computer in case I need it back for warranty reasons ? What method is the best to put newer ROM., there is SEUS and other one. Can we put clean official 020 ROM right on the phone and not by UK 016 and then update ?
I mean, there are million questions that we are trying to answer by reading this forum. I admire you guys because this is easy for you but please, be patient with us, programing idiots , there are people that only want better phone and have no clue in programing, like me for instance...cos I only want to remove Moxier and Quadrapop, only for that I want root, nothing else.
Cheers

then simply follow my provided steps and you will have R2 Rom with root.
Afterwards you can deleted moxier and quadrapop.
Just understand: I cannot be made easyer !!!!!!!
The exoploit works like this:
You flash a "old" R1 firmware -> Do the fota -> Copy over some stuff like su and superuser.apk
For now its the easyest way to do.
If we manage to flash customs it wouldnt be much easyer to do oO
Regards
Bin4ry

Yes its lazy. Because some people are lazy understanding ROOT and How it is done.
If you read it carefully and understand it briefly you will not get it bricked and know your mistakes and how solve it.
Plus you can't get satisfaction on doing it easily. Hard work is a good feeling

Tnx a lot for instructions but they are pretty short
New instructions for FULL R2BA023 ROOT
Step 1
Flash Rom with preferred method!
+++++What method ? I cannot find DeviceID in my registry, I have tried to find it with my phone connected on my PC and when it is not connected and there is no that string when I type that in search. Then, can I flash it with Omnius without this DeviceID number ?
Step 2
First startup the phone and activate USB-Debugging:
Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB Debugging!
run step 2 and select "update from sdcard" on phone
+++++when to connect the phone ? Turn the phone ON and go to USB debugging -> run step2.cmd -> connect the phone ? -> hit update from SDCard on the phone
Step 3
run step 3 and will root your phone
+++++phone is connected the whole time from step2.cmd ?
ATTENTION: If you have X10i you are DONE!
+++++You see, we need instructions like a blind man ) If I have done it I would write them really step by step so that little kid could do it.
Tnx a lot for your hard work !

Geez gaining root on the x10 was soooooo much easier than gaining root on the HTC Dream (g1)
Pretty much as everyone else has said if you find these simple steps to gain root difficult then maybe you shouldn't be doing it because really it's quite simple.
I've done everything the right way and i don't seem to be suffering from any of the problems everyone else is getting.
The best way to root is on a 32bit os (will save the hassles with 64bit java)
and if you can't find your device id install Seus and boot phone into flash mode then try and find device id again.
I wonder if it's possible to have all these excess How to root and Custom rom threads removed ?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711907
Read the instructions if you get stuck re-read the instructions again then if you're still stuck search the forums/thread as i'm sure someone else has asked the same question and has had a answer.

seriously people if you struggle with three steps (or five if on x10a) then you really shouldn't be doing this, the steps are pretty self explanatory. If you still want root after all the warnings gotten off here then here's a video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AZ_10cvd9k
Just do as he does if still you cant do it then put the phone away and find yourself and old SE T18, it may be more suited.

Get SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) from sony ericsson website, through their update things. Install it, and update your phone through that. That will give you device drivers, and then your deviceID should be in registry.
'What method?' The files are the first links in the guide.

Yes.
The thing is, these guys are experts. When you have an expert writing a guide, a lot of things are assumed that you'd know. For example, there's no need to explain what is meant by 'run step2.cmd' But for someone who doesn't know anything, you'd have to tell them to 'double click the file' Same thing as explaining to someone they have to extract the downloaded files.
I understand what you mean though, there's some gaps in the guide that could be helpful if they were filled up, but hopefully they will get polished after they're done figuring out all the updates happening. For example, new 020 firmware just got released for X10a, so now they have to add that on and maybe change some steps for X10a users. And optimally they'd wanna be able to get custom ROMs working, so they'll need to redo the guide again.

Tnx a lot for your help, I have managed to get it working. Yes, instructions should be step-by-step but not "double clikc this" detailed
Cheers

I'm thinking of what problems would be there if we had released root in the hard way we had before ?!
Everyone wants us to release after we annouced and we always said its too hard
And now this easy three steps are too complicated for some of you.
Seriously :
Just look in the batch files to understand what is going on, you really need no diploma to understand what basic commands are running inside our files. And if you will take a look most of your questions are answered by itsself.

[Q] need help about firmwares

im new to android, very familer with flashing nokia phones but this seems a whole new ball game..
id like to root my galaxy s2 and also flash a generic firmware removing all the t mobile start screens and crap, maybe i could just do that with root access maybe?
anyway, im completly lost, ive read through loads of posts here, and im lost when XXWXW or what ever is mentioned, and im to download the in secure version.. here is what i got :>
wth?? wont let me post image hosted at imageshack, is just a screenshot of my about page on me phone..
wow, no way to post the image atall
i have to write all the versions and stuff tomrow, im going bed now.. would be easier if allow me to post a simple image lol..
any help on which firmware files i need would be great..
i got the odin flasher, just need to know what firmware i need, or what files i need to root my phone, as i dont see anything that matches to any official generic firmwares on here, neither can i find the insecure file i need..
thanx in advance
First of all, welcome to android, and like you I came from the world of symbian too. I must say, it can be a bit confusing, all these new terms to get used to but here we go, ill try and clear it up for you with just what applies to the sgs2 for simplicity.
First of all get Odin 1.85, which you said you got anyway.
Now, go to SamFirmware.com, sign up, then navigate to the android firmwares, select the sgs2 from the list, scroll down to XXKH3 (latest and in my opinion the best stock firmware), and download it.
You also need to find an app called superoneclick, I use v1.65, its not the latest, but always works for me, search the forumss or Google it, you should find it easily.
Once all is downloaded and extracted to a folder assumingly on your desktop your ready to go.
First off, switch your phone off and boot it into download mode by holding volume down, home button and power on. You should arrive on a black screen with some writing on and a yellow triangle. Press the up button once, you are now in download.
Connect your phone to PC, and let it install any drivers, I can't reneger at this point if I needed to provide specific drivers as it was a long time ago, but you may need to search for some or look for another "how to" if you have problems.
Start Odin, and without altering any checkboxes, press the PDA button and navigate to your folder where you unzipped/rar'd the firmware and select the one with "code" in the title. Then press phone and select the file with "modem" in the title. Lastly press csc and select one of the two files with "csc " in the title. Make sure you have the correct files and forget about the ones left for now. When sure, press "start".
When complete, your phone will restart and you should have a brand new copy of XXKH3 on your phone, which will now be wiped by the way, so back up and stuff you have first.
Now, you need to find the thread on here that provides "insecure kernels " download and flash any insecure kernel using the method described above except only using the "PDA" button, this step enables you to do the rooting bit next.
Once booted back up again, ensure that "USB debugging" is enabled, and open up and run superoneclick, just press the "root" button and let it do its thing. Reboot back into download mode.
Now, last step is to flash back the stock secure kernel. Start up Odin again, and press "PDA" then select the file with "kernel" in the name from the original download from SamFirmware. Flash it, and once rebooted, you now have stock latest unbranded firmware with root.
If your unclear about anything, ask and ill try and help, please do be careful, as is always the way with these things, you can brick it.
hi, thanx for reply
good to talk to an ex symbian user, i used to admin symbian freak forum lol, think i still might have the highest post count lol, anyway, symbian is a dead os, but was much simpler to debrand and flash, specially when nokia brought out there online update tool, was just a case of changing product code to debrand,, before that i used jaf, still got my jaf flasher somewhere, and pkey..
anyway, back on topic. im still a little lost.. ive signed up at samfirmware but cant find any XXKH3, is this the one i need :>
samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-i9100.htm
is it the .pit file?
"Galaxy S II */*.PIT File:*DOWNLOAD (EXT4)"

ok well if u sscroll down or press ctrl + f and type xxkh3 it will take u there .. but i am also guna update my firmware for first time and heres the link for firmware in case.
hotfile.co m/dl/127188601/47c712c/I9100XXKH3.rar.html << as i am new member it would let me put link properly
Yes, that's the one, the file named I9100XXKH3, it'll most likely be zipped or rar'd. When you extract it it will be several tar.md5 files
I used to spend ages on symbian freak, I must say I think android is easier, only pain is you need different binaries for windows for all different oem's that run android to flash. It can get complicated if you flit from one brand to another like I do a lot.
It's a shame symbian didn't keep up, as I liked it, very functional, just cumbersome to use. Although I must say that belle looks nice, although very Android like.
Just go to this thread for firmwares and guide on how to flash the device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278

And these instructions tell you how to install via Clockworkmod:
BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!
Download the rom zip (don’t rename it!)
Put the downloaded zip file on your internal sdcard
Reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery (don’t do this from rom manager, it won’t work)
Select Install zip from sdcard
Select Browse for zip on sdcard
Select the zip file you put on your sdcard above
(Let if flash)
Reboot, Enjoy!
yea, nokia made mistake with symbian.. it was a great os back in the day when it was open, like 2nd edition symbian where all system files could be accessed, then if i remember correctly the n80 was the first 3rd edition symbian device, which had a whole load of stupid security features stopping us power users / modders having access to system files.. this was the downfall of symbian i belive, but it was hacked eventually, but then the touch screen revoloution came about, and symbian just simply isnt an os that is usable on a touch only input device, like 5800 for example..
the whole theme that originated symbian to how it was, was the fact it could be very easily used in one hand, but touch screens killed that, and they tried to addapt but failed misserably imo.. now i hear nokia are going with windows 7 mobile, i dont know why they dont use android, well i do, cus its based on linux and easiliy hackable and moddable which for some reason nokia hates.. not sure what happened with the meegoo, or meamo os on the n900, i gave up on nokia after the 5800 and n8.. 5800 was a total failure, worst phone ive ever had, the n8 wasnt so bad, but so sluggish annd everything was so long winded, like simple tasks like changing ring tones had to go through 9000 menu pages, but thats symbian for you lol.. the camera on the n8 i still belive the best camera on any phone to date, just a shame the os the phone has..
one final question before i flash.. whats differnce beetween

So I need the one that wipes right? Id like a fresh install. completely fresh debranded firmware with nothing else. all my contacts and calendar are most important to me but there all on my Google account.
thanx for help. just need to be tottaly sure before I flash.
Also. I have bricked several Nokia symbian devices in my time. but was able to do a dead flash via usb. or if this failed then I would have to dead flash the device using jaf with fbus cable. now if something did go wrong and brick my s2 is it possible to revive via a usb dead flash as I don't have fbus cable for this device or know if such a thing even exists. I've been out the phone modding game for a long long time due to illness. still in recovery now. just wonder what options I have if something was bad to happen. as we all know flashing any device has some amount of risk.
thanx again guys. much appreciate the prompt replies.
Marty
One thing to be wary of, that is a certain death situation if you lose it, is to back up your /efs folder. It contains important information such as imei and more. Flashing normally doesn't touch that folder but it has been heard of for it to go corrupt when flashing. It's rare, but can happen. I have flashed mine dozens of times with no ill effects. There are instructions on this forum of how to do it, unfortunately I think you have to be rooted first in order to do it.

Yes, it will be a fresh install.
You can also wipe it manually by booting in recovery mode (vol. up + home + power).
Cool. so there is a Rom (read only memory) partition that can't be access only via recovery mode? and if something was to go wrong you can always boot into recovery mode and re install the stock factory firmware? if something was to go wrong. am I understanding you correctly? bit like the recovery options from a windows pc for example.
or am I completely off key here lol.
another quick question is about sp lock. I pretty sure my sgs2 is locked to t-mobile and if anything like symbian devices flashing firmware does nothing to the sp lock. is this the same with android devices. or more specifically the sgs2? I remember the Nokia bb5 phones was unlockable for many many years. as Im sure some of you remember the great dejan keljavic found a way to unlock bb5. that was years ago so Im guessing there is most likely even stronger algorithms for sp unlock? But that was Nokia and this is Samsung. so is sp unlock a possibility? not that its super important to me as Im on contract anyway but is nice to know if possible. is pointless Google unlock sgs2 as every website in the world claim they can do it via calculating code from imei lol. which are all scams.
thanx again for helping a droid noob lol. anything anyone need to know about symbian Im happy to help. more so on 2nd. 3rd and 5th edition symbian os. not so much on symbian^3 but still got n8 which runs this os so happy to help if an occasion should arise. which is doughtfull as I think android is the future.
Marty
You use CWM to create a nandroid backup, then anytime you want to restore your default system, just restore it.
To flash .tar files you use Odin for Windows.
Actually its very simple, there is an app you can download from the market that will find the code for you, called sgs2 unlock. You do need root first tho.
hello again, still havent got round to messing around with my phone yet lol.. but im going to do it tomroow, i know some time has passed now, and im currently downloading I9100XWKK5 from samfirmware as its 2.3.6.. making the latest stock unbranded firmware for my device right?
thanx again guys

Nope, generic unlocked.
Edit: Just noticed I was being a complete plum and looking at the baseband version, you are correct, XXKKA. Apologies.

[ROOT] LG G2 Easy [TUTORIAL] One Click!

Hello guys, since the last tutorial I posted was really popular I decided to post another one for my other phone, the LG G2. You don't even need to use any command prompt for this. The only problem is that this is chinese language, so you have to click the exact buttons.
1. Download this file: https://tr.im/64637 <--- HELP ME! OR http://goo.gl/U6Jwaf
2. Install the software, using the installation buttons as you would on any other windows installation.
3. When you have installed it, you will see a green button, press it. Then connect your phone.
4. When the phone is connected the software will recognize the phone and the green button will show "ROOT", click on it.
5. The phone is going to be rooted in some seconds and the process is finished when it will show a tick on the software.
6. The phone will reboot.
7. When it is rebooted, go to google play and download super su.
8. Open super su and it will ask you to update the binaries, and you must click on update, and then normal.
9. A window in chinese will pop up on the phone, this is the screen that allows you to give root permissions to any app. You must click the button on the right.
10. You are done! Root process is complete!
11. This is the most important step. Leave a thanks! If you liked the tutorial, please show it to me!

EDIT: I know you guys might not trust this, but I used it and it worked perfectly. There aren't any problems with this root, and there are no viruses on my PC that I know of. And I regularly scan my PC.
If you want to see my other thread, about 100 people replied and most of them successfully rooted their phone!
I believe that this isn't a virus. If you don't want to use it, don't. But trust me it works and nothing happened to me!

I don't think the issue is that this may be a virus. But, the root process gathers critical phone information (IMEI ans serial number) and sends it back to a server.

Yeah may be, I don't think so, nothing bad has happened to my IMEI or Serial. I still think that you can use this, because many thousands have and none have reported anything bad. What if the data being sent was only information for statistical purpose?

Again this was from KINGO not VROOT.
VROOT has not been in contact with us.
USE THIS SOFTWARE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
I suggest using the newest version of KINGO if no XDA developed method works.
In past versions of both softwares there was XDA dev's work (without credits)
If you use this and find out that someone on the other side of the world has a phone with your IMEI # and your phone no longer works, then you have been warned.

I suggest using the newest version of KINGO if no XDA developed method works.
In past versions of both softwares there was XDA dev's work (without credits)
If you use this and find out that someone on the other side of the world has a phone with your IMEI # and your phone no longer works, then you have been warned.

I think that VROOT aswell will take it away if we ask them... but anyway I don't really think they are going to do something bad with the IMEIs..

We did ask already
We had contacted both KINGO & VROOT at the same time.
Kingo has been responsive and made the necessary changes to comply with the XDA rules.
We have not heard ANYTHING from VROOT.
At that time both software's were the same (almost identical). We were thinking that they are a part of the same group.
I still recommend that you use a method developed here on XDA, or the newest version of Kingo's software
However it is your choice.
Thanks for the cooperation on this matter,

Yes I have noted similiarities within the two websites... I really hope that VROOT proceedes to take the IMEI down aswell... although I really don't think that something bad is going to happen; many people have done it and until now there haven't been reports of IMEI misuse... I could be wrong though they may do it in the future, but for now i think it's safe.
Anyone else tried it?
Why don't people just use towelroot?
- download app from Internet
- install on phone
- start app
- click the button "make it rain"
- finished, you just got root

[Q] [Rooting] using Backup TA v9.11 (2014-06-15) for my Xperia Z2 (SGP521)

Hi,
I made this post cause i want to root my device Xperia Z2 (SGP521) using Backup TA v9.11 (2014-06-15) and i don't want to make a mistake..and actually need more info to do it.
I hope it'ok for anyone that will try to help to be very clear, with the most details possible.. that a very beginner as me could manage to understand what is about.. Thanks a lot all of you !
First of all, i will short present me as it is for me the first time i register in a forum, and also very new user of mobile android device.
I have very very knowledge in computer, i never had to actually.
I just made the step forward on purshasing a tablet just a few days ago, and was very surprised how the android system was locked, all this permission facts, and not being my own administrater on my Xperia Z2 just fresh bought.. Bad surprised for me, and was ready to give it back to the supplier.
And so i tooked the non easy decision for a novice as me who do not understand a word, to root my device, with hope that all will be ok with that.
After 2 days of deeply looking in the net, i filter all the tutorial for rooting and finaly decide to start with this link:
I very carefully read all was post and comes to need a back up in case i would have to give back my device to guaranty or any other reason for, this brought me to download "Backup TA v9.11 (2014-06-15)" on a USB Key pluged in a frends computeur that i am using now to write you this mail.
Reading the instruction here:
..I have to say that it's not easy for me to understand how exactly manage to do this renamed actions, where to do it, .. i am very lost at the moment actually and wish to perform of the back up in this USB Key and then procide to the Root session as soon as possible and use normaly my tablet with a good security.
Please let me ask you few questions:
(Can you reply or tell me how i can get this information, i hope it is not too much and i send you all my thanks)
1a--Where and how can rename this script?, when do i back up my device in the root process?, how to do it step by step, please?
1b--What is to make sure no other script or application wish using adb running? (my friend computer have a mouse with usb cable, and the key is plug in, and the Xperia.. Can i ask you please when do i have to plug in the Xperia ?)
1c--What is to make sure the device is booted in normal mode means ?
1d--Than i press the "Backup TA commande folder" and follow,..right ?
THAN FEW MORE QUESTIONS:
3--Do i have to download before with "PC companion" the new version 167 for Sony of android for Xperia avalable or it is ok to stay with "4.2 android" ?
AND FOR ROOTING:
4--If i did understand well i have to first know my device name: SGP521, than Open "developer options" to make "enable debugging", than in security enable "unknow sources" setting. i think i am ok for this part ?
5--Than the drivers session in windows 8 asus new computer of my friend: when i plug the tablet it says that it have the last pilotes for the Xperia Z2 after downloading it automaticaly, so do that means that i do not have to download it ?
6--Than i did download "Easy root kit last version V12.3" on the USB Key. Please when do i use the program? After back up, right ? i know it seems stupid question but it is very important to start learning with good bases..and i have no one on this..
If you can tell me the steps using Easy root kit..thanks a lot!
Well.. i hope this post is not too long, it is my first one ever, i just want to be as clear as possible.
GOod day to all of you.
Hi!
I purchased my Z2 tablet just a few days ago and went through the same steps that you are about to go through. I will try to help you with a few answers.

usually it's not a good idea to play with all those tools if you are not really sure what you are doing
if you do something wrong you might brick your device, so you might end up with a shiny new device that is nothing more than a paper weight
so if you are really willing to take the risk make sure that you really follow the instructions closely and take your time and double check everything before you proceed... also make sure that you download the right files for your device as choosing the wrong files might brick your device

as long as you are not running the very latest firmware version (23.0.1.A.0.167) rooting is the first thing you need to do, so yes, follow the instructions in the thread above

you need "Backup TA" to save your TA partition
with a backup of your TA partition you can restore your DRM keys in case you want to unlock your bootloader (unlocking the bootloader deletes the TA partition and you lose your DRM keys)

you don't need to do anything from the changelog, it's just a list of changes that the author did to the software

this means that you need to make sure that you didn't have a terminal open that is already running any adb commands

"normal mode" is the mode that the device boots into when you turn it on in the usual way (just as you would use it for browsing the web or checking your mails)

don't update with the PC companion to 167 as you might lose root and with that you lose the ability to flash a custom recovery or do a TA backup

My first Sony Phone.. how to get the basics done?

Could someone give me a super quick guide on how to get this on my phone? I coming from years of Samsung phones and never owned a Sony before or know anything about it. I have CM on all my Samsung devices for years and simply want a CM ROM in the Z and get it done with with. I picked up a 99% like new second-hand Ultra Z LTE C6833 today, has stock 5.02 and I don't have a clue how to get this flashed in the easiest and simplest way possible. As for locked or not bootloader, I also don't have a clue. First step which is to install TWRP I immediately got stuck because the links posted are dead (teamw.in/project/twrp2/219)
Without wanting to waste anyone's time, if someone could give me the simplest and most painless info on how to get the Z flashed, I'd be super appreciative. The threads on this phone are in the hundreds at this point and I read all sorts of very confusing and contradictory info. I worry to kill or brick it immediately before I even get started.
Thanks much in advance
Read. Thats my tip.
Every sony device past 2011 works the same way.
Look at different xperia forums, for example at the Z1 section, Z2, Z3 etc.
Look at the rooting guides. Unlock guides. Ta backup guide. Just read and read.
Dont just look at the first guide and jump right in.. read first.
Explore the Xda forum. You will find the guides im talking about. im on my phone.. a bit difficult to post links atm
Much good information can be found here

You can check if the bootloader is unlocked or locked by opening the dialer and entering *#*#7378423#*#*. Then tap "Service Info" and then "Configuration". It'll either say "Bootloader unlocked: Yes", or "Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes/No". If it says NO on the latter, then you can't unlock the bootloader and you're pretty much screwed. Bell Canada devices have locked bootloaders, and I believe it's the same with UK O2. Chances are that you can unlock it, but you could of course be really unlucky.
If you can unlock the bootloader, then your Ultra will pretty much behave like a Nexus device when it comes to rooting and stuff like that. Just flash a custom kernel with recovery, like NUT's Dual Recovery (with CWM and TWRP), then flash SuperSU, and you'll have recovery and root. Next step is to flash CM12.1 and you're done. It's very easy once you have recovery.

Thanks MUCH for the detailed info!
I checked the bootloader info as you said and it's not unlocked, but can be done. It seems a daunting task but let me start by trying to get it done. Hopefully I won't screw-up the phone. I'm searching how to do it as there seem to be several ways.. After I complete the unlocking (let's hope) I'll report back and try jump on the next steps. Probably will have some follow-up doubts or questions.. this is all a very different and more complex process than the Samsung devices I've owned that never required any of this crazy gymnastics..
Anyway, thanks again very much and keep you posted!

I'll give you the short guide:
- Go to this (offical Sony) site and give them your IMEI and whatnot
- Wait a couple of minutes, and you'll receive a key
- Now, there are two ways to unlock the bootloader - both equally official, but the easiest one is to use Flashtool.
- Hit the "BLU" button and enter the key you got fra Sony. You only have to do this once.
- Once this is done, you can start flashing a kernel with recovery and flash whatever you'd like.
I'll help you along the way if you need to, so don't be afraid to ask any questions. Start by unlocking the bootloader, and I'll be here if you need any help.

Yes, and that's why it's a good idea to backup your TA folder, which contains the DRM keys. Once you unlock the bootloader, these keys disappears, and that's why it's a good idea to make a backup of them. There are a couple of tools that does this for you, and you can find them in the cross-development section.

Thank you very much!
Well so far EVERYTHING HAS BEEN A TOTAL NIGHTMARE! Nothing I try to do works!
First I installed flashtool, latest version. Im running Windows 7 64bit. It was a nightmare to get flashtool downloaded and installed. After I finally got it installed, ot took another hour updating itself and syncing stuff. When it finally finished and while holding down the Volume Down key I connected the phone to the PC via USB cable, Immediately I get an error of device driver errors. flashtool gives me also several errors. Then I tried to install the Flashtool-drivers-1.1-20130911. Then another problem, the drivers dont install at all with a message "DPinst.exe cannot execute on your operating system". That's it, finished! When I go to the Windows Device Manager, all I see is an exclamation mark under S1 Service.
So then I tried the FastBoot method. Also no luck. While holding down the Volume Up key I connected the phone to the PC via USB cable, the phone's blue light turns on, and again I get a DRIVER NOT INSTALLED ERROR. My computer refuses to recognize the phone and the device driver is never installed . The Windows Device Manager shows an exclamation mark under S1Boot FastBoot.
Then I tried the Sony way and installed the Android SDK!!!!! Immediately I find I need to download more crap, thie time the JRE Development Kit! Takes me 3 hours do download this with my useless internet connection. At this point I am already ready to throw my laptop out the window and break the stupid phone in a million pieces!
But then, there is the next problem. After all downloaded and installed, before I can even started I get stuck again, because Im supposed to go to the android SDK folder c:\android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver and replace/install the fastboot drivers “android_winusb.inf”.. well, I dont have an extras or google or usb_driver folder on my SDK installed folder! NOTHING! THIS IS ALL RIDICULOUS!
Finally I searched everywhere on the internet for other possible Ultra Z drivers. I ft to Sony's own site and found Xperia Z Ultra (C6833, C6806, and C6843) drivers, Xperia Z Ultra (XL39h) drivers, Xperia Z Ultra (SOL24) drivers, Xperia Z Ultra (SGP412) drivers and others.. this is all crazy what a nightmare of mess and miss-information everywhere about this phone! Anyway, I tried all of them. None works.
I am so frustrated and desperate. My God! Cant get anything done. Nothing.................................. I cant believe this..
UPDATE: I give-up. Ive spent the whole day and downloaded and installed GIGS of apps and software and drivers. Nothing communicates with this useless phone. Im done.
Could anyone give me advice if its there is an alternate way to, root install a recover and flash this piece of **** phone without unlocking the bootloader which basically I cant do? If not, it will fly out the window asap, I cant deal with this ridiculous drama. Years of handling and flashing all sorts of hardware COMBINED, never gave me 1/10th of the misery and headaches this hardware has given me in one day. Xperia, never again..
By the way, Sony's "AMAZING" PC Companion app is so great and fantastic that it doesn't even have an uninstaller! No joke! Once in the computer, crawling endless directories with all sorts of files, drivers and registry entries, it will NEVER come out again. All is amazing..
You did the opposite of what I advised you to do. You did not read correct guides.
Q:Ask yourself what do you want to achieve?
You wrote in your first post "if someone could give me the simplest and most painless info on how to get the Z flashed".
Q:My counterquestion is why? Is your phones software unstable? Are you curious to learn to modify the devices software?
A:If your device is unstable. Please do a factory reset.
Q:Are you curious to learn how to modify the software?
A:Then collect information. Read. Set a timer for how long you will spend learning. Let say 45 minutes.
When 45 minutes has passed. STOP.
Take a break. Do something else and continue the next day. Repeat until you are confident to try a simple operation
For example: learn how to use adb and fastboot. Learn the commands. What they do.
I can not stretch enough how important it is to read and learn before you jump into things.
I do not see why I or anyone here should help you to unlock your bootloader. Because you do not have a clear purpose or knowledge how to do this.

Just to briefly correct you: I'm the type of guy that has NEVER gotten a virus on a computer. I'm the type of guy that has rooted, flashed and played around with phones for many years with more or less degree of difficulties, but always successful. I'm the type of guy that has helped many many people in this community with their hardware, when I know how. I'm the type of guy that has knows many things about the works of Samsung devices that I have used for many years and have never had an issue learning what's needed. I am the type of guy always ready to offer friendly advice when someone is in need of something I may offer help with. Finally, I am the kind of guy that has a Dell laptop, running Windows 7 64bit, that by whatever reason refuses to install the proper drivers for the Ultra Z, or the kind of guy that maybe has a flawed Ultra Z. After all, it's a second hand unit and about 2 years old, despite that it looks new.
So, the only thing this type of guy can do, is 1) try a different computer to see if the communications with the phone work, and if not, check the phone because obviously that's where the only place the problem can come from. To try different USB cables and do phone resets, that I did today several times. I learned those basics the first day of my flashing life, long long ago.
There is NOTHING to read or learn or do, when there is no communication between the phone and the computer that connects to it. You seem not to understand the very basics of the problem here is not lack of reading, instead is only lack data flow between devices.
Anyway, thanks for the constructive advice!
2 extra things: all the tools, apps and drivers you have suggested, I have them all. All the procedures, steps, folders where stuff is and goes.. I've done all. I learn very quickly. The issue is none of that.. the issue is, no driver for this phone will install on my laptop, for whatever reason. Is that simple.
And then there is another issue.. for you, and most people on XDA, downloading and getting "stuff" is a breeze. But not me. Where I am, XDA is blocked, and even with a VPN, hardly works. To reply to you or just log-in, sometimes is an hour. And most file hosts? Mega? Rapidgator.net? Zippy share?.. a few hundred others? Well.. they doesn't work. Uploaded.net.. Mediafire.. Google Drive.. AndroidFile Host, and just about everything else, all DON'T WORK. All blocked. So are blocked most of the VPNs now. So, while for you, go here, get this, download that, is all a piece of cake, for me, is not. Most things to get download are truly a nightmare. And when it comes to download a ROM or any 2 or 3 hundred Mg files, sometimes takes me days of endless wait and interrupted downloads. I live in a crazy country called China, where all Google stuff, Android included, is forbidden, and all around it.. XDA included.
So, talk is easy. But when access to simple and basic information is so difficult to get and everything comes at a premium, life is really a bit more complicated than maybe you can imagine. So...... yeah, help is very much appreciated indeed, in the same way I am always willing to help others when I can, without calling out their lack or reading or question their abilities to follow my advice
Alright, that was quite painful to read, not because of something wrong you wrote, but because I've been there too. I don't know what device you had prior to the Ultra, but just forget what you learned from that device.
Just sit down, relax and figure out what you're trying to do, and then how to maybe achieve it. Yes, I do understand that your laptop doesn't cooperate at all, but that's just technology. Of course it won't work when it should. We've all been there.
1. Set up your computer to be able to communicate with your Ultra. Installing the SDK is overkill since the only thing from the SDK you need is Fastboot and ADB drivers. You can easily install those two by installing this tiny tool that does it for you.
Fastboot and ADB is now installed.
2. Install Flashtool. You've already done this. Connect your Ultra and open Flashtool. Flashtool should grab and set things up for the Z Ultra automatically. This should only take 5-30 seconds. Not three hours. The device should still be powered on at this stage.
3. Okay, now you have Flashtool installed, and it recognizes your Ultra. Next step is to go to that Sony site I linked to, to get the unlock key. Fill in the required info, and you'll get the key sent on your email. Don't misplace it.
4. Go back to Flashtool, hit the "BLU" button, paste the key in, and that's it. Don't set the device into fastboot or flashmode until Flashmode asks you to do it. Fastboot can be active and connected forever, but Flashmode will disconnect by itself after a minute or so.
5. Your bootloader is now unlocked. This means that you're free to do whatever you'd like to do with it. Xperia devices do not come with a default recovery system, so we'll have to flash a custom kernel that includes a recovery. You can find them in the dev section. Once you've flashed or hotbooted a custom kernel with CWM or TWRP, you're free to root by flashing SuperSU, and flash whatever ROM you'd like to flash.
It's very easy to deal with Xperia devices once you have things set up (mainly Flashtool), and the basic steps are:
- Unlock bootloader (one time thing)
- Flash custom kernel
- Done
It's the same procedure as Nexus devices, only that we have to use special tools to unlock our bootloaders, while Nexus' use one command in a terminal. The issue here though is the tools, and not the process, and I feel your pain. I really do. It would've been so much easier if I could just show up at your door, do it for you, and leave

And then there is another issue.. for you, and most people on XDA, downloading and getting "stuff" is a breeze. But not me. Where I am, XDA is blocked, and even with a VPN, hardly works.

Then let's make it easier? My upload speeds aren't an issue, so please point to a site that I can upload the tools too, which you then can download from at proper speeds

Klaos3000, you are great. Difficult to find words to thank you the time you take to try help me out. Really much appreciated. It's almost 1AM my local time here and tomorrow I will give a try to all you suggest me step by step. If I run into additional difficulties, I will try use another computer. Maybe is my specific laptop with my windows installation that is being stupid with the Ultra Z hardware. I have installed endless drivers for HTC, LG and mainly Samsung phones and tabs, and have never had any difficulty.. just last week I installed drivers for a friend's new Galaxy Tab S2, got a recovery in, got it rooted and manually cleaned of a lot of useless samsung system bloat stock apps and crap, all about 20 minutes. Hard to understand why with an Xperia phone, things are so complicated. Anyway, tomorrow will follow your advice and report back.
Again, thanks a lot for your help
Klaos3000, despite being so late, I decided to give this another try and follow your steps.
But I Immediately run into similar problems.. I CANNOT get drivers installed.
1. I have downloaded and installed Minimal ADB and Fastboot as you suggested.
2. I have flashtool-0.9.19.7 installed and did the 0.9.19.8 upgrade by updating the x10flasher.jar file.
3. Now you suggest I connect my phone and open Flashtool. But connect my phone how? Boot it up? USB debugging on or off? Or you mean connect the phone turned off and then on press Volume up? Or press Volume down?
I tried all this, and again I get a device driver error. Because there are NO DRIVERS installed for the phone. This is same problem as before. And if I go to the drivers folder inside Flashtool and try install the drives, I immediately get an error that they cant be installed in my operating system.
I am completely stuck as before in this very simple step.
Attached screnshots when I enter Flashmode:
And this is what happens when I try install drivers from C:\Flashtool\drivers:
And if I try go to FastBoot Mode with the phone's blue light on (Volume up + connect USB Cable) this is what I get:
UPDATE:
I have finally unlocked the bootloader, using the Fastboot method! I still could not get the Flashtool drivers to recognize my phone, but the FastBoot ADB drivers installed without a problem. 2 things Ive learned with this experience I want share with anyone in the future that has similar difficulties:
1) I switched to a friend's old laptop with Windows XP. Under XP, FastBoot ADB drivers installed at the first time and absolutely zero problems.
2) I used a USB 2.0 port! If connected to a USB 3.0 port, another cascade of new problems immediately arise.
So that's it. I want thank VERY MUCH everyone in this thread that was so kind to try and help me as much as possible. I would not have gotten this done with it
My next step is to install a recovery from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261606
But I only see downloadable versions for looked bootloaders. Also, I want to flash a custom CM based ROM next and see a warning regarding Unlocked Bootloader with CyanogenMod, AOSP and OmniRom that the kernel needs be repack to replace the built in recovery with XZDualRecovery or things will either not work at all or require unexpected operating instructions. So again, I am extremely confused as what files to choose and what to do and worry to look for the wrong thing and worry to make a catastrophic mistake. And also I have no idea what method I should use:
- ZU-lockeddualrecovery2.8.21-RELEASE.flashable
- ZU-lockeddualrecovery2.8.21-RELEASE.installer
Thanks again for the advice and the feedback in all this

Welcome To Zone 3 Root Method ! This is confirmed and 100% solid.
Once You Have Root Access you will be able to do lots of Kool things, But you can also Brick Your Device Very Easily Too !!!
NOTE:* ( BE VERY CARFUL MODIFYING ANY OF THE .PROP FILES THERE ARE DISCRIPTERS IN THEM THAT LGUP USES TO IDENTIFY YOUR DEVICE... IF YOU CHANGE THOSE AND THEN MESS UP ANYTHING ELSE BAD ENOUGH YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RECOVER YOUR DEVICE...YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! )
Myself and others Have worked very hard to bring you this comprehensive root package...
My Root Package And my Method Are absolutly free to download and will remain so. We Are Very Limited in Hardware and Cash for further Development...
But... I Will Keep My Work Publicly Available for all for free as long as i can.

Ok Lets Begin !!!
WHAT YOU NEED :
1: A WINDOWS P.C WITH WORKING ADB.
2: PP2 SOFTWARE VERSION AND LGUP ALONG WITH LGUP COMMON DLL DOWNLOADED FROM HERE:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B1Sfod4HWfk2MUwxNk1oeXJCZEE?usp=sharing
3: MY ROOT PACKAGE AND INSTRUCTIONS {ZONE3_ROOT.ZIP} DOWNLOAD FROM MY DEVELOPMENT SERVER HERE:

---------------------------------HOW-TO------------------------------------
Ok so what you need to do is go get all those files I mentioned first.
Then setup your adb and get that working, Next you want to setup LGuP
For your device. if you have problems there is a nice tool to automagically get lgup working called "UpperCut" by an xda member @autoprime
so you can get that here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/uppercut-lgup-loader-g5-variants-t3511295
once youve set that up unzip Zone3_Root.zip to desktop open admin command prompt "windows-key + x" I believe and change directory to unzipped Zone3_Root
Now open Zone3_Root on your desktop there is a rich-text document that I have prepared with exact instructions for rooting, it's called { README }
open that.
now you must downgrade your device software to pp2 version{VS425PP2}
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE:** If your device has pp5 software version you have an extra step, you must flash to pp8 or pp7... let it get to the red verizon screen and soon as it go's to android optimizing apps pull battery re-enter download mode and then flash pp2
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok so that went well but now right after flashing pp2 you will have bootloops. It will bootloop for a few minutes then eventually it will boot to verizons red screen.
( This is because of the modem firmware )
after it finishes booting you must connect to wifi and finish or skip through the Setup wizard, once you've done that and you are looking at the home screen go to settings and enable developers options, enable usb debugging turn off anything about verifying sources there and in Settings-->Security
Next make sure your device is recognized by ADB
now Go back to that README from the Zone3_Root.zip
follow instructions precicely and your all set with root. we flash the correct firmware for the modem partitions to the correct places.
we use the folder labled ( mrw ) to replace king root with @Chainfire SuperSU.
and then you can enjoy stable root access without bootloops and now you can go find other ways to break your phone !
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SPECIAL THANKS TO @Motojunki01 For advice file-hosting and donating a brand new Zone3 for this project
Thanks to @Chainfire for SuperSU
Thanks to all who have spent countless hours fooling with lg up and Blindly flashing the krazy krap I've come up with in the effort to fix the bootloops and such.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DONATE TO ME !!
IF YOUR FEELING GOOD ABOUT BEING ABLE TO ROOT ZONE 3 AND HAVE BENEFITED FROM MY WORK, BEEN ABLE TO USE ROOT APPS LIKE TITANIUM BACKUP NOW AND WANT TO CONTRIBUTE TO FURTHER DEVELOPMENT ON THIS DEVICE,
WE ARE ACCEPTING DONATIONS VIA PAYPAL AND IF YOU HAVE ANOTHER DEVICE YOU SPECIFICALLY WANT CRACKED OR YOU WANT TO DONATE A ZONE3 FOR THE ZONE3_FRANKIN_ROM PROJECT "WORKING ON CUSTOM ROM" YOU WILL HAVE TO PM ME FOR AN ADDRESS TO SEND DEVICE-DONATIONS .

In my opinion that's is CLEARLY messed up i get you guys spent money time effort and sweat getting there, Believe me we are thankful, but hell we almost paid that much for the phone! in my regards disrespectful asking to "donate" to get how to root the phone.

My Zone 3 came with pp8 installed
I've tried several times to " let it get to the red verizon screen and soon as it go's to android optimizing apps pull battery re-enter download mode and then flash pp2"
but every time I finish downgrading to PP2 all I get is a white screen with various black patterns...
Does this mean that my phone can not be rooted?
oh and btw...

I spent over $110 .00 on Zone3 test devices out of my pocket and had to have a few donated to get this working universally across all devices.
of those devices only one still works at all.
so Hell Yeah you can support our research and we'll guarantee your pp7 rooted remotely over a teamviewer connection to your windows pc.
BUT since you sir are disrespectful to devs trying to fund research to do EXACTLY what you DON'T have the intelligence or tenacity to do your self
I would recomend you stay FAR AWAY from trying to root your device and don't bother asking us... price for you went up to $50
However.
if you don't own a PP5 specific device and are smart enough to follow instructions the updated links here in this thread can get you rooted for free....
thanks for trashing an informative thread

NO
on the devices that go all screwy on the graphics theres only one option .
our newest kit available through donation at our site.
to get rid of the graphics problem just flash stock pp8 .kdz back to device you won't be rooted but will have working fone.
sorry the old method wouldn't work for you...
however the donate only method will work for you. only thing is it cost's $20 at our site.

Thanks for the reply
I can go back and forth from PP8 TO PP2, PP4 & PP7 no problem
The problem for me is that only PP8 & PP7 have a visible screen
PP4 & PP2 both have the zebra print screens and they just continually reboot... I don't understand how you could root this phone if my phone is failing on one the first steps.
I feel like my best bet would be to buy a different phone... I don't use this phone as my main phone, I just use it as a podcast/music player
The only reason I wanted root was YouTube Ad away & YouTube Background play

xposed running fine and able to root every model of zone3 i've come against....
YouTube Ad away & YouTube Background play work great too and even luckypatcher is working great.
if it's not worth it to you I understand.
but if you want us to crack it for you it'll take teamviewer and lgup installed on your windows PC
and a $20 dollar donation to
[email protected] on paypal
there's a post somewhere on xda where I offered half-price thursdays and if you can find it and quote it to me on a thursday we still honor that.
also if your worried we can't root it. and your worried you'll pay for nothing we give moneyback guarantee if device proves in good working order and all PC components are working and we still can't root it...
We Are Confident
I even root the PP5 with this and it was not rootable the other ways either .
Thanks for your Interest and thanks for reading XDA
