2 questions - Messenger picture and camera options - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have 2 things that bothered me today in my trip with the HD2
1. What manual settings should I use for the HD2 (contrast etc) ? The pictures are very grainy even under light.
2. In the Messenger app in the new Energy ROM, I can't see my account picture on the main contacts page, Only when I click "change appearance" I see it. Why is that ?
Thanks !

1.) There are camera tweaks all over the forum for the HD2 I do know you can take really good pics with it , I have no links to them at the moment, you will probably find them faster searching ....
2.)
Can you see others pics/avatars?
I would assume, to save space, since you should already know what your picture looks like ....(not sure if that really is the answer but it sounds good )

As for Q1.
Check this thread out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638
Especially, 16, 17, 18, 56, 62, 63
And just a suggestion but next time do use the search function on the top right. Most answers will be found much quickly.
For Q2, post it on Energy ROM thread.

[IDEA/REQ] Full Contact Photo On Call Screen

Instead of the little photo box of who is calling you that you make it a full screen 'water mark' background image so it takes up the whole screen when someone calls.
See example attached. I'm not good at photo shop so I tried my best.
Just a thought.

Surely there is a free version/the ability to include it in a rom though..
Yes that would be cool...
full screen app
full screen app works great but it's not free on the android market.
The pictures would be crappy quality? Aren't they only a 96x96 image?

I think you're right.
That app kinda sucks. It doesn't 'explode' the pictures embedded in the contact but rather requires one to 'attach' a new image which is a chore every time I flash a ROM.

u could backup app and data wit titanium or my backup pro (pay app i use) and restore that way if thats the only thing stopping u
Those are workarounds.
Fact is, I already have pictures set for about three hundred contacts thanks to the now new picasaweb feature and I don't want to manually do this over. For the rest Facebook widget automatically assigns images for my contacts. Ideally the app should leverage this already available information rather than creating excess work.

++++1....
That, and it needs to not downgrade the resolution that was an issue in the past. The Desire build is still doing that...someone calls, the picture is some crappy low quality...barely make out who the person is calling...haha...
Unreal how some many things with Android are broke from Google...good thing all of their money is made from search advertising, because they can't do much else right...rofl..

[Q] 2 Qs from a just-converted-to-android exWM user

I am so curious about my first android toy (X10), I am very excited, so I'm ready to be flamed and bashed for my noob Qs (search is not working properly )
Oh yes ! I'm a noob again
My Qs:
1- How do I sort my contacts list in last/first name instead of fist/last ??
2- Is it possible to auto-sync contacts avatars to their corresponding facebook profile pic ??
Thanks for being kind
If you've come from WM then you will know we all have to be a noob at some point.
On the contact front, don't think the stock phone book works that way. I use a freebie app called Gesture Search, you use it to draw with your finger the first letter of your contact, be it first or last name. You can add more letters if you need to narrow your selection down. There are probably other phone book/contact apps out there on the market and others can point you in the direction of their favorite.
There is another app called Sync my pix which lets you bring over Facebook contact pics but I think that the 2.1 update due very soon gives you a better Facebook for Android app that lets you sync Facebook and your phone.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Android!
these are small issues, but somehow dissapointing
will I be able to sort my contacts with the OS upgrade ??

I must admit, the flavour of this post is a little better than the one asking us to read the user manual for you
You're going to go through a big disappointment phase, noticing Android just isn't anywhere near as customisable as WM. This will soon turn into elation when you realise Android isn't anywhere near as buggy, ugly, or downright crap as WM.
Android 'works', WM doesn't - it's kina the between WM and Apple - you sacrifice some customisation but you get something nice in return that doesn't need quite so much anyway...
I don't think you'll ba able to sort your contacts - google "Android releases" or something to find out a little more about that... there's also a thread in here somewhere that lists a whole lot of changes.
also, think outside the square on this one - maybe just re-write them lastname, firstname and there you have it. of course that's a pain, but it's a method.
I think syncing with Facebook is part of 2.1 (not sure though).
My advice is to let go, and embrace the new platform for what it is - I went through a ton of pain moving from WM, but it was worth it!
Enjoy!
thank you k1sr
Soon there will be less Qs and more collaborations
Great to see u on here gtrab and I'm stoked for what's to come.
Imho once u get familiarized with android u will like it way more than winmo

Full Screen Incoming Call Contact Picture/ICS

Hello all, just updated my to ATT/ICS last week and thought this feature was to be included in the 4.0? After searching here for a bit I can't find any info. Wondering is there a way to do this with out rooting the phone or running a different launcher. TIA

that feature is available on Google's version of ICS, which is AOSP, but also in AOKP/CM9, I have AoCP from The Collective Team and I have full screen caller id, if you're running stock , well that's AT&T/Samsung's fault for not adding it to their dialer, you can try this app out and see if you like it, I don't think you need root for it or anything else. good luck

Hey thanks roloracer, this is kinda a no brainer Att Ics? Coming from a windows phone and boy that feature looks just great. Every day I'm getting closer to the ROOT of the matter. Thanks again.
Related question, but backwards.
How would you disable this feature?
Looked through all the options I can find in CM9 (h0tw1r3, not the official CM9) and can't find anything about it.
I don't have contact pictures for 75% of my contacts, and the ones I do have are seemingly tiny images that look terrible on the Note full screen.

the moment someone woudl sync with google .. there server saves the pics very samll so it woudl look bad for everyoneanyway.. thatfeature has been present on htc devices for a long time and i had a mod on my previous samsung phone rom to allow big pictures full res ,but you woudl have to NOT sync google contacts automaticallly and save them to vcard on your phone so you can reload the full res pictures , this issue has been on going since the first android device go look at google 's error reports youll see tht threads is thousands of pages ppl com:laugh::laugh::laughlaining .
@DAGr8*;
thanks for info ..........yes I was wondering , if there is a way to do this eg > lower the resolution of pic ( thus able to add bigger size for display on Ausoem note screen)
will that maybe solve this issue?
<< this feature was one of Major reasons why I went from ICS stock to another ROM from Xda forum>>
I find stock ICS from att =has several things lacking and a MAJOR DISSPOINTMENT
>> thanks in adnace > love your mods and work !

Contact profile photo problem - Need help here

Sry if it's the wrong section of the forum but I got an annoying problem and I cna't solve it...
I synced all my contacts with their facebook profile picture (I had to do some of the manually but that's not the problem...)
The problem is that I DON'T SEE FACES! I mean, My HTC One SV had decided to dedicate just a quarter of the screen to the ID photo so when I get a call or I look at them on the contact list I just see chests and bellies!!! Not a single face!!! And I can't even center to photo manually!!!!
I've tried some programs like: BIG SCREEN CALLER or something like that but: 1- they don't work cos you can't click on the answer button 2- they consume lot of precious battery juice,... Any help here?

S9+ - no more video recording button after Pie Update ?!

Hello S9+ Fans,
yesterday I updated my S9+ to Android Pie. Lots of new, nice things.
But in the new camera app the video recording button is no longer available. You have to FIRST switch to video mode and them press recording button. To have two buttons, one for Photos and one for videos was a brilliant, very much loved thing. As when you are 'in action' you simply can decide with one click what you aim to do, without priorly having to switch the modes !
Does anybody know how to get the second button back ?
I am even extremely thinking about bringing the old camera app back if it is not possible with the new one. Is there any way to do this please ?
Sorry if I might have overseen a thread handling this already.
Kind regards
Any fix for this?
First they took out dual camera mode then these "dual shooting buttons"... and moved the clock to the left whyyy samsung??!! Not happy with the Android 9 pie s9 s9+ plus update.
Moving the clock was a Google decision, not Samsung's.

Are you referring to the floating shutter button? Settings, Shooting Methods, Floating Shutter Button.

I think he meant camera and video button side by side. I still got them on galaxy camera.

The real fail here is the manual video mode removal :silly:
Very stupid decision
This change is a minor annoyance and I'll adjust but it is an annoyance none the less...
I wonder what the thinking was here? Surely no one can consider this an improvement..
This is a freaking useless change and it's totally impractical. Nobody asked for this stupid change and yet, as usual, Samsung decided to implement it...
With android, you just root and change whatever you want. Or use another application suitable.

Yeah but that's not the point. + with Samsung, if you want to use most of the Knox features, root is a no go.
The point is that a software update removes a feature, which is not only useless but also detrimental to the user.
Hey, at least I can find the video mode now because it says the word "video". I had to spend 10 minutes on google to discover how the hell to record video the first time I wanted to do it on my s9+ because there wasn't anything anywhere that looked like it would make video.

.......and therein lies your answer to why things like this happen...
I'm sure a number of people in this boat complained to Samsung the first time around and so they removed this useful feature.
This is why we can't have nice things...LOL!
We live in a planet full of morons. I can't believe that there are people that they need to see the word "video" to understand the place of the function, but can't understand the red dot, the international symbol for video recording. You are so right, we are doomed to never have good things on this planet.

I'd rather hear his complaint than the ones that can't get used to companies changing things. What's the term I'm looking for? Adapt other die? No, that's to harsh and don't wish death. Get used to it? I don't think that's clear enough. Maybe people should just stop recording things, I mean, if someone did that to you you'd tell them to stop. No, you won't be YouTube rich any time soon kids, sorry
why do we have to get used to "changes from companies" that downgrade the abilities of our phones? You must be trolling, there s no other excuse of your unreasoning way of thinking.
Is there any way to install the old camera still having the two buttons ?
Does anybody have a link to download the app please?
I do see the positive other changes, but rather would use the old version to get my two buttons back.
your only practical choice may be installing a third party video camera app from the play store.

This is not an option for me as it would put me in an even worse situation. Samsung's camera uses the camera at its most. Any other app has not that brilliant pics + vids with that device.
So does anybody know how to bring back the Android 8 cam on S9+ having Android 9 installed ?
Thank you in advance.

This was no red dot, not until you first found the obscure and utterly meaningless red-dotless icon that switched from camera to video mode. That's what I spent 10 minutes on google looking for the first time I tried to record video.
