Just like the title says guy\gals; How do I unlock my Sprint HTC Hero?
OS-Android 2.1 with root.
I've tried Google,YouTube and a few other sites, but nothing concrete or even close.
Any help, links or suggestions would be appreciated!
Thank you!
The Sprint HTC Hero uses proprietery hardware and form designed only for Sprint. Even if you could unlock it it wouldn't be of much use as it really wouldn't work on other networks.
Hmmmm interesting and good to know! But there are tons of guys here in Dallas Tx. that use these HTC Hero's and put them on MetroPcs with proven, guaranteed results. With market, mms, sms, txt, net and gps everything working! So they are using some kind of skills to unlock the phones.

Yea, but are the using "SPRINTS"
HTC Hero??? I would like to know as well. They say sprint will do it for you???
when u put sim card did !!!! it ask for unlock code???
br
jass
Sprint doesn't use sim cards, therefore can't be unlocked.
What can be done is it can be flashed with a ROM compatible with Metro, which shouldn't be too difficult being as how you've already rooted it.
I've not seen that type of discussion here, if I were looking for how to do it and possibly a compatible rom, I'd probably check out howardforums.com in the Metro section.
Happy hunting, hope this helps.

I think that is good news.
So just a thought, surely their GSM radio is not locked down to Domestic GSM networks - wonder if we can steal their radio image and pop a sim card in???
Just a thought since its been a fairly hot topic.
Best news I've heard all day! Anything to bring the photon to a much wider audience.

Anyone know if RSD Lite is capable of flashing a new radio image? If it is, I'll test flashing that to my phone. Although I'd still need a SIM card to test out.
Well now i know to hold onto my phone when im in Japan. One time i left my EVO next to me at the airport, and she flew away. not like they can use that phone there, but they will sure know what a Photon is. ha ha
yeah that would be one fast easy solution to unlocking the domestic GSM radios. be interesting if that works. and if it does.... lets see if the people who offered money on the bounty pay up lol

Yes provided the files themselves aren't modified in any way to disrupt the signature if someone can get me the sbf I can make a radio only sbf
Great, I'm heading to Japan on Friday and hopefully I won't have any issues.
It is today. Hoping for good news @[email protected]

Hey guys, I'm a noob, please don't hurt me
I'm an American living in Japan and I just bought my first smart phone...the EVO 3D (3G) for AU by KDDI...I'd post a link, but I'm not yet allowed.
Their non-3G network was CDMA...so I assume that their 3G is also CDMA....can anyone confirm that?
Under that assumption (CDMA), we're still waiting for ICS, so I'm wondering what you'd all recommend I upgrade my phone to while I wait. I'm not a fan of the stock Android 2.3 that came on the phone, and I'd really like ICS....but if there is something I could use now, that might be fine with me.
Also, what are the basic steps I need to follow, I found the sticky thread in the dev forum, but I'm not sure what stickies would apply to my situation. I'm guessing I'd have to start with a root kit, and go from there....but please fill in the gaps, thanks

Is there evidence to confirm that ''noobs'' have been mentally assaulted for asking questions on this forum?
Just being playful after watching the required "noob" registration video
Lol I see.
Chances are that you will not be able to activate any CMDA phone from overseas on a network here in the USA. The big networks like verizon and sprint will not allow foreign IMEI numbers to be submitted to their system for activation.
Do you happen to know what frequency the cdma network you came from runs on? Look behind the battery

When I had AU by KDDI when I was living in Japan is was CDMA. As far as I am aware the Japanese version wasn't able to be rooted using the CDMA methods here in the development forum. Also the ROMs here would not work on your device and would actually need to be slightly modified to include files from your device to work, but you don't have an ICS ROM to use for replacing files.

That's kind of the conclusion I came to, after running through all the different root/unlock methods, I came across issues in every single one, and my skill / confidence isn't high enough to really make a go at figuring it out.
Only thing I haven't really attempted is downgrading from hboot 1.5 to 1.4, partially because my software version is different from the instructions, and soft bricking the phone makes me nervous considering the potential incompatibilities.
I think our phone is more or less the same as the sprint phone, just on the Japanese frequency. I'm hoping that the sprint announcement means we will also be getting ICS soon... but who knows
Hi everyone, Im considering buying a HTC Rezound off ebay, the thing is that I dont live in USA (I live in the DR) and I've read
a lot about the "GSM mode" on the rezound but I've still have a few question(Forget me if they've been already answered, as i've searched everywhere for clear answers, including the original gsm thread):
1- Do I need to get some sort of unlock code from verizon to use a sim card with it (an Orange sim card from The Dominican Republic)
2- Does the Rezound supports 3G on the 900mhz band?
thats for now, thanks in advance.
PS: Sorry again if this been answered before, believe me I searched, (Im a "former" HD2 owner, so searching an reading tons of tech stuff is not
something new to me )
I contacted a local seller who claims that the rezound supports 3g on 900mhz band, he told me we could meet so he can show me in person
that it is actually getting 3g.

1) ok first of all the rez should work without an unlock code right out the box with ANY GSM sim card... if it's a stock rom you just won't have data(browse online) and if you try sending a text you lose service..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421341
that was when it first came out.. now you can just flash a custom rom and get full working data without worries... if you need help on that as well tell me
2) i live in the commonwealth of Dominica and i'm on GSM with Digicel... they don;t have 3g down here but they are on the 900 mhz band but the have 3g and even 4g in other countries so yes you should get 3g on the 900mhz band..
thanks a lot jahrize! I bought the phone, now all I have to do is wait for to arrive, I'll update this thread once I get it going.
thanks again.

Im not sure I understand, are you thinking of going TO Verizon? as What I meant is that I WILL NOT use this phone with verizon.
anyways if what you mean is that you're switching to Verizon but you're also planning to use this overseas as a gsm device from time to time then we're (almost) on the same boat, anyways the phone hasn't arrived yet, (think I'll be getting it by the end of the week). I'll post here whatever I find about it, wish me (us?) luck

Sorry for the confusion.

I love it over there. Completely different way of life compared to New York. At one point I was considering a move to there but decided I want until I'm in a better position.
Do you just for vacation purposes or family??

Glad to hear you like it here, as for the reason I'm here, well I actually live here, Im Dominican. I bought the Rezound because the hardware is excellent and since CDMA phones are a bit cheaper than their GSM counterparts (at least on ebay) I went for it. Back to the phone, yesterday I spent a few (too many) hours trying to unlock it with HTCDEV.Com but I did not succeeded as the page was constantly logging me out, but today I tried it again at work (yeah I know ) and I finally got the unlock code, but I havent tried to unlock it yet as I read somewhere that it is best to first update to (offficial?) ICS to get the latest firmware and radio and then unlock it as if one tries to update after unlocking it will not update. By the way do you know how could I flashed the official update as I haven't been successful trying to get it OTA and im a bit confused with all the leaked ICS ruu floating around.
Thanks.
As promised here's the update: it works!!! It gets to connect to hdspa on the 900mhz band.
Of course setting it from stock was a bit of a chore. But it is done. I'm updating this from my HTC rezound running ics sense 4.0 3g on orange dominicana
I have an HTC EVO Design (Kingdom) from Sprint. It is a hybrid CDMA/GSM world phone with a sim slot, but it is network locked to Sprint only in the US. I am wondering if I root this phone with a custom rom/kernel, will I be able to use it with any GSM carrier in the US?
Thanks for any responses in advance!
I've been doing a lot of searching around on this matter to try and figure this out on my own but haven't found the answer to my question, that's why I finally decided to make this thread here.
I've seen some threads about S-OFF and wondering if doing that to my Evo Design will enable it to work with US GSM carriers..
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can. Sprint merely required a call [see their owners' manual], but Boost, FreedomPop or [Hero S] USCC require a sim unlock. I acheived this w/ a hardware tool [riffbox], but I'm sure there are other methods.

Hey guys, I was considering buying a HTC Evo 3D and a bit confused about this. The things I'd like to know:
1. I've read that there are two types of this phone: CDMA and GSM. Could you guys explain what is the difference between the two?
2. Will the phone work properly if I order it from the US and use it in Hungary, Europe. There is no Verizon or Sprint here.
3. If I buy it and SIM unlock it can I use it here?
4. What is s-off?
5. What is your experience with the phone in general if you have it?
As a note: We can buy phones here too, but they cost too much. I'm not sure if they are CDMA or GSM though.
Thanks in advance guys, and have a nice day!
CDMA uses ESN/MEID which is hard coded into phone.
GSM uses sim cards.
There is more difference but those are the easiest to identify.
S-off is security off, and different from unlocking.
Unlocking allows custom rom and recovery.
s-off allows more, and makes things easier to do, but has greater risk of bricking the phone if you do something wrong.
I love the 3d, best phone.

Thanks for your answer!
Is there a reliable way to identify which phone uses which type? If I'll buy one I'll need to know if it accepts SIM cards.
So S-off is some kind of root, or similar?
Are we talking about the same "unlock"? I meant unlock as SIM unlock, so the phone accepts any kind od SIM card.
Do you know if there's a safe way to SIM unlock the phone, here on XDA? I have some experience with unlocking but I've never done it on an HTC.
We are talking about bootloader, unlock or s-off.
Sim unlock is different.
Also can tell by hboot version. Odd numbered seems to be gsm and even is cdma.

Yeah, I see. But do you know if there's a way tounlock these phones? I've seen some threads here that might me working but I'd like to know if you've used them.
Also a phone with a bad ESN is only blocked at the current carrier, right?

Bad ESN means it CDMA phone and those don't have SIM card slot. If you want to buy it from US search for GSM model. There is a way to SIM unlock every phone, but in most cases you have to pay for it

Thank you for your reply! Knowing this is valuable when buying from the US, yeah. I was looking for a free way to unlock it, through tutorials and such because I can't and wouldn't like to afford paying for it anyway!
I recently had a tough time flashing regional firmware to Samsung phones... When I flashed a Czech one or with a different carrier it didn't have signal. The EVO 3D's firware is not regional, right?
Greetings from Hungary!
US is a specific market and you should think twice before buying a phone from US. There are ways to SIM unlock Evo, but they require s-off. I suggest you do some serious reading before going through with your purchase. I know a guy who bought mint condition Evo 3d from US very cheap and now can only look at it and cry because he got CDMA version which doesn't have SIM card slot

Yeah I was lucky to discover this early! If there are no regional firwares I think it's a go.
Anything I need to know about S-OFF
A quick look at the forums and stuff tells me that it can be a bit complicated to do on some phones... Is it carrier dependant? Different HBOOTs can be S-OFFed differently?
