USSD
Unstructured Supplementary Services Data
USSD is a means of transmitting information or instructions over a GSM network. USSD has some similarities with SMS since both use the GSM network's signaling path. Unlike SMS, USSD is not a store and forward service and is session-oriented such that when a user accesses a USSD service, a session is established and the radio connection stays open until the user, application, or time out releases it. This has more in common with Data than SMS. USSD text messages can be up to 182 characters in length.
STK is for SIM ToolKit - It should not cause any problems unless you have a really old SIM Card.
I think USSD is basicaly a thing for ie. GSM banking - it allows the network to send you binary SMSes deciphered by the SIM (when I login with my GSM key to a bank account, I receive a message with temporary password, it is not sent through ordinary SMS, but delivered to the SIM toolkit area which is protected by PIN)

Fixes a problem where the test versions of WM2003 get slower and slower aafter every time you reset them because they keep adding events to the notify DB. We added it to the ROM.
to check my balance in my prepaid in malaysia, you type *122#. then a USSD notification pops up, something like when you type *#06# to get the IMEI number. So I think its for communicating with the network on another level. I can even turn on / off my voicemail with other commands, and still invoke the USSD notification popup.
Hi there,
I have a little problem with sim card. When I turn on phone, I enter my pin and everything is OK, I can do calling and messaging. However, when I run Phonebook, I cant access contacts on my SIM as phone claims that sim is unavailable. Do you have solution for this?
Thanks

come on man that was 1st thing i did. thats only to copy sim contacts. problem there is that it does not list sim contacts without you having to copy them over and says sim card unavailable in dialler app. you should be able to see all your contacts in there i.e google, sim and phone etc. where its says sim card unavailable you should see your phone number.

This is phone 101 stuff and search works

I tried to set up Google Voice, and it can't automatically activate. Anyone have any idea why? GV was configured for my Droid, but now when someone calls my number, it rings forever and never goes to VM. I really don't want to pay for Verizon VVM, and liked my GV setup...
Any ideas?
The exact error message I receive is:
Unfortunately your network carrier is currently not supported for automatic voicemail configuration. To use Google Voice as your voicemail provider, please visit the Google Voice Help Center for more information.

I went to the site it links to, but can't seem to find the manual number to dial in. Any help would be appreciated.
Go to the Google Voice site in your browser and click the gear icon at the very top right and select 'Voice Settings'. This should take you to the 'Phones' tab - Edit your phone number and click 'Activate Voicemail'. That will walk you through the rest of the way.

Just tried that, but sadly it had no effect. I'll have to call big red and see if they can sort it out internally.
Try and forward you're number again.
auto config for GV never worked on my droid either. It should give you instructions on how to forward your VM to google voice when it fails
First ignore the text saying that auto config won't work and just continue until you get to the point that your GV texts download and appear, and then follow the instructions in this link in post #6. I had this same issue and this works. It forwards your calls to Goolge Voice:

I'm assuming you have internet connection using other applications except Gmail. If this is the case, it could be some sort of permission problem on the gmail app. If you do not know how to set/review permissions in Huawei, you should google it. I (still) do not have the phone to guide you...

My gmail app works fine. Only the email stock app does not work when I try to connect it to the gmail.
Have you enabled pop/imap access on your gmail account? Official gmail app users their own protocol. Other email clients uses pop/imap standard protocols, but you need to have them activated to work. You can set in desktop gmail settings via browser.
I did and my email on the mate 9 works fine. However I found out that one of the wireless network setting for my mate 10 was set to "sim" when I change it to "peap" then my email app works fine. Thanks for your reply.

Hi,
I have similar issue however I cannot even setup the gmail on the native email app. I have an error saying the "username or password is incorrect or pop3/smtp service is disabled"
I googled the issue but couldn't find much useful. The reason I wanted to try to set the emails up because the notification led does not work when I got an email via the Gmail app.
- Anyway the password is correct to the account but I'm using 2 step verification (I tried my yahoo account which doesn't have 2 step verification and I have the same problem)
- The phone is connected to the internet (I try this over wifi)
- I tried other options such as exchange (this took me further setting up the mail server and port but I got a message "cannot connect to server" on both gmail and yahoo account) I tried the "other" option too but I have the same error pop3/smtp service is disabled as mentioned above.
I checked the sim settings as you mentioned above but I couldn't find any settings regarding the "peap". Can you pleas let me know where is that located?
Did you have any of the issue I mentioned above?
Thx in advance

That setting only appears in the wireless settings when I try to connect to a secure network that requires me to provide an identity and a password. To tell you the truth I have a hard time to find that setting myself. In my case I notice that when I try to connect (using wifi) to the secure network of csula and calpoly pomona that require me to provide an identity and password, my mate 10 just skip the steps that I need to provide an identity and a password and try to connect to the network. Obviously it could not. Only in these cases then I see the settings that I can change from "sim" to "peap". Then my email app works. I am sorry that I cannot explain clearer. May be some expert can show you to get to it better.

Thanks for providing the screenshot. Looks like I had a different issue but luckily I managed to solve it however it took me a few hours to read 100s of unrelated forums..
As I mentioned above I am using 2 step verification for google but not yahoo. Looks like both service provider have an option within the settings where "a less secure application access" can be allowed.
This managed to fix my yahoo account but I still had to generate an app access password on my google account as it had 2 step verification. Anyway, its all done thx for your help
