Cronos Droid 2.0.2 vs VillainROM 12.0.0 - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if anyone did a comparison between those two roms. I like Sense but want fast and stable rom. Which one is more stable, faster, has longer battery life, doesn't crash too often, and stuff like APS2SD and 3d Gallery work flawlessly?

Best way is: try it out yourself Everyone has their subjective look on it and their own preferences.

tried Cronos 1.7.1 and had problem with APS2SD... VillainROM 12.0.0 had a problem with battery being drained too quickly after I reset it at 5% (as suggested by many). I'm just looking for stable rom untill developers get Froyo up and running
I think I will go with stock 2.1 for now
http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=100&t=1973

Cronos 2.0.2 all the way
so I tested all three roms myself and from user experience here is what I found:
stock rom is very slow and once I installed it I wanted to switch right away, the battery life in VillainROM 12.0.0 is not that great and plus it gets buggy if I set my CPU at 176 with screen off (works perfect at 190), Cronos 2.0.2 is a keeper the battery life is way better than other roms I tried and my Hero wakes up flawlessly when CPU is set to 176.

I am using the Villain 12 with the kernel and optimizations here: (my kernel & optimizations )
http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=97&t=1928
I have no battery issues, no wake up issues and speed is great at 691/160 (using SetCPU with no profiles).
I don't know about Cronos 2.0.2, but with 2.0.1 I had some minor problems. Here no issues at all.

I have used both (only used Chronos for a day before I got bored, fiddled with it and broke it )
Chronos seemed faster for the bit I used it, but there doesn't seem to much in it. Apps2sd ect. work fine in both. Will check battery life later.

Its down to personal choice, try both and see what you like, you can't try them for short periods though keep each for over a day if you really want to try them out.
Many people prefer different things in roms and it depends what you want to do with them.

Just a quick fact about cronos droid 2.0.2. My highest fps that i got from neocore was 32.3fps which In my opinion is excellent. So if you want good 3d, this might be something to consider about.

What makes 2.1 so slow?

Hi
I've had my Hero for aboutttt 7 weeks now and i've been tinkering mainly with 1.5 ROMs.
I've settled with MoDaCo 3.2 which is blazingly fast and has some decent features.
Recently i've tried some 2.1 roms, Villain 5.4, BeHero+ and some others. I tried Villain 5.5 yesterday and kept it until today.
I really liked it, the stock look, the incredible amount of features and general improvements to the interface from 1.5.
Now. Every 2.1 ROM i've used has had something in common. They're all incredibly slow. I mean, once the app is running it's generally ok but switching between apps can be incredibly slow.
Closing an app and sliding between the home screens is extremely sluggish and opening messages can take up to 10 secs.
Keyboard input is about as flat as the expression on my face. And once the keys are recognised the phone vibrates as much as a sex toy...
Don't get me wrong, Villain5.5 is probably the best 2.1 ROM out there, it just doesn't seem to perform well.
So what makes 2.1 so slow?
Is it because it's a stock kernel? I see MoDaCo has "Teknologist"?
Is the Hero just too lame?
This has probably been answered more times than you're willing to count. I'm just frustrated to the point at which i stuck my phone in my mouth and proceeded to nibble on the corner.
Try SenseHero 2.2 - it's fast. Really fast, I think even faster than MoDaCo 3.2.
2.1 isn't any slower than 1.5!

I really, really disagree there
When we are talking about responsiveness anyway.
Responsiveness of any 2.1 ROMs are far beyond what I would like, VillainRom is the fastest I've used but still not what I'd like for my main phone. Esp vs ROMs like the Kimera 1.8... which is the fastest 1.5 ROM I've ever used (and now sticking to)
TBH I'm not surprised, with no official GSM Hero release, there's no fine-tuned drivers for it etc. Ports can get it running on a GSM Hero but in no way are those builds really built to be used on the phone, they're just modified by XDA Devs. I think thats what makes the wait for the 2.1 from HTC even greater because that should hopefully be the 2.1 we could all finally move to.
(...once XDA roots and tweaks it of course )
to check how fast it is, linpack is better or the benchmark - softweg one?
Running SenseHero2.2 now and have done for a couple days.
Feels very responsive and works very well
SlideVillain 1.1.0 is actually really pretty fast, and I currently use that as my everyday ROM. I used to be a devout taskiller user, but I have now uninstalled Taskiller as you just don't need one on SlideVillain.
Also, the new SuperHero ROM from Villain is unbelievably fast. It is a semi-vanilla ROM, although only available to donators for the moment in a closed Beta (there are still little bugs needing ironed out).
Not all 2.1 ROMs are slow though. The SuperHero ROM is actually as fast as the Desire in use. See http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=507 for some info about it.

Best Rom/ theme?

What do you think is the best rom/ theme in our opinions and why?
Keep the speed, looks, features, etc. in mind!
Thanks.
I've landed on Calkulin+Clemsyn 1.5ghz Froyo Combo VERSION 6 (1.2 Boot Loader)
It's overclocked to 1.5ghz and runs smoother than anything I've played with yet. It's based on the stock rom but obviously modified to remove the crap. The stock rom has some nice features which you miss out on when moving to a more phone oriented version of froyo or ginger. Little things like the way combo boxes display on websites...
The battery life is surprisingly good. Feels as good as Vegan or TNT Lite to me, and I haven't yet delved into undervolting.
I've used every rom out there except the honeycomb ones. I am currently using vegan ginger oc to 1.2ghz. That said, the one that has the best performance has to be calkulin+clemsyn oc to 1.2ghz hands down.
I say 1.2 ghz instead of 1.5ghz is because I'm putting into account the battery performance. Calkulin's rom is already really really fast without oc. Everything about it is just smooth as hell. In fact, I think I'll go back to calkulin+clemsyn oc combo later this week. For me, performance beats the latest and greatest.
well thanks a bunch guys guess thats how I'm starting off once i root this baby
Any themes to lay accross it?
I've tried all of them 1.1 and 1.2 opted for Beasty's ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1084573). I recently tried G-Harmony Gingerbread 2.3.4 but it seemed slow and experienced unexpected FCs but the potential for USB GPS use forces me to keep an eye on that release. Until then, I'll stick with Beasty's ROM.
I've been patiently waiting for a reasonable Honeycomb ROM like everyone else here seems to be. Tried to get Illuminated, but the WiFi never worked for me, no matter what fixes I tried. I ended up (happily) with Bottle of Smoke 4.1 which still has a few minor issues, but it is a welcome change from the stock Tap-N-Taps I have been living with. Now that Viewsonic has clearly abandoned us, I fealt it was due time to hit the Custom ROMs and for now BoS is acceptable for my everyday use. (Fixes will come in time)
raskell, I, too, have been interested in the Illuminate ROM and was close to giving it a spin tonight but the feedback I've read gave me enough reason to hang tight with Beasty. It does seem the HC choices are getting more and more stable, though. The community effort for this is unreal.

[Q] Best Thunderbolt Rom

Now I know this is largely an opinion based question but figured I'd get some good feedback. I am a former incredible owner and with the incredible I had MANY choices of ROMs that were all fast, great battery improvements and completely stable. I was a huge fan of CM7 on the incredible. I finally just rooted my Thunderbolt and am looking for the same. I just want a ROM that is stable, decent speed and with better battery life. So far I flashed a sense 3.5 ROM (InfectedROM) and it is has many bugs, little bit better battery and actually feels slower than stock. CM7 says it is still in beta so I have been reluctant to try it. Does anybody have any advice on the most solid ROM out there for the Thunderbolt? Thank you

Any BAMF ROM. They are almost completely bug free, smooth, and offer better battery life over stock. CM7, even though it's not officially supported yet, doesn't have too many bugs. The battery life, in my opinion, just doesn't match up to Sense ROMs.
One piece of advice I'll give you for better battery life. Don't overclock. It just isn't necessary. The phone is fast enough at 1GHz, and you won't see too much of a change overclocking, just worse battery life. (Benchmark scores are meaningless. They do not reflect every day performance)
What kind of mAh drain do you experience on bamf roms? I stay between 15-25 on CM7 with the screen off and peak between 150-350 with screen on. BT is always on, as well as GPS. (Never use wifi, so can't speak on that) Oh, and I just Juice defender, before JD I would average 35-40. Sync mail with imap every 15 and exchange on push. Underclocked with screen off to 360 and run 1024 with screen on. I don't OC unless I'm plugged in. Then its only 1209.
I'll also cast a vot for Team BAMF. I am on BAMF forever 1.10 and I flashed the devs beta 3++ kernel build after because I saw a bit of lag with the stock kernel. You absolutely need to remember to wipe before flashing the rom, though. I neglected to and the lockscreen didn't even work.

I never dropped below 30% battery using bamf in months, I'm a huge fan. It took a lot for me to drain it down low.

I vote BAMF SoaB. But I'm biased.
Sent from my Cyanogen Touchpad.
Never had any problems with CM7 via protekk's builds. Run fast and smooth, and get great battery life. Plus it's clean so I don't have to worry about washing my hands after using it
Skyraider 1.3. Gives the best balance of htc sense functionality, battery life, customizations, and speed. I would stay away from sense 3.0 and 3.5 roms. They initially seem smooth; however in everyday use they will lag on you. The phone is just not designed for 3.0/3.5 sense. The 2.1/3.0 hybrid roms work well which is what the skyraider 1.3 rom is. If you don't like sense, then run CM 7.1.1 or Liquid Smooth 3.2. The non-sense roms will be a little faster, but I like the widgets that come with sense.
Update: Forgot MIUI rom. Very nice if you like the apple-esk look and feel. Very smooth.
BAMF forever 1.1
How do i find the BAMF forever 1.1 rom. When I use ROM mamanger I only see 1.0.5
Another vote for SkyRaider Zeus 1.3.
Near perfect for me.
Miui tons of customization very good batt life and very smooth
Sent from my HTC Mecha using XDA App
BAMF roms are probably the most stable roms and I tried most of them already I even bricked my phone a couple of times trying all the roms and so far I'm sticking with this ROM called thunder stick 3d
I've tried Bamf Forever, SkyRaider, SoaB, MIUI and Gingeritis 3D.
My vote out of all 3 is Gingeritis! Battery life has been a ton better than the Bamf roms and MIUI I only liked on my Droid X. Wasn't a fan on my T'Bolt.
Liquid Gingerbread 3.2
Liquid's AOSP 3.2 is by far the best rom I've used, it's based on CM7, which is technically still a beta, but I think that's just because the official support on the CM website is slated for CM9, I have no issues with Liquid 3.2 and I tend to be picky about dealing with bugs, and battery life is good the way it comes, better than Sense based roms, and you can configure the kernel for batterysaver which makes it even better.
[ROM-STOCK-605.9] iKReaM.What.Thee.ROM.605.9-R3Ds this rom is legit but if someone could tell me what that clock is and how get it i would greatly appreciate it
I used CM7.1 most of the time but switch to a BAMF Sense 3.0 ROM on Thursday nights (and sometimes Sunday and Monday night) to watch NFL Mobile. They are both nice, but Sense 3.0 has some stupid issues, like lack of landscape mode, lower volume by default, dodgy Bluetooth support, etc, it's enough to make you want to get rid of it.
I have th3oryrom - ics
I vote for th3ory, i like that it is non htc sense. And this one is a ics look/feel rom. This is a link to dhacker29's rom (http://th3oryrom.com/ROMS/SHIFTAO5P_IC3.2.1.zip );and although it is 2.3.7 android it still seems like you're using ics. the only bug i have found is flash keeps crapping out. there's a thread i found (non t-bolt related) that i found where going to adjust (remove all) permissions fixes this but which folder i do not remember.
You won't get many votes for this b/c the developer isn't going to update it (at least i don't think) b/c they have moved on to another phone.
EDIT: i did a search for you if you're inclined to dnld this rom. in the Q&A bolt forum there is one i located that path on your phone you may need to find using root explorer to run flash. "/data/data/com.android.browser/app_plugins/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flash_Player/config.data" after this path go to permissions on this file and deselect all check marks.
Google Music
it is an awesome rom but since CLEAN flashing this rom, ive had issues streaming my music from google, it sucks, i read other people having this problem as well so i tried the various fixes i found and to no avail, its a deal breaker for me cuz i wanna listen to the music i paid for. im gonna try SHIFT AO5P n see if it produces some positive results, if not, im going back to INFECTEDROM. I WANT MY GOOGLE MUSICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC!!!

[Q] Best overall rom?

Hi,
I just now decided to flash a rom on my LG P500 tommorrow, and I'm looking for the right one now. Things that are important to me:
1. Performance! I really like to play games (not too fancy ones because LG P500 can't even install those but you know what I mean ... I'd prefer it if the rom has OCed the CPU automatically)
2. Decent battery life (I don't want all performance, I'd like a good balance)
3. Overall smoothness (scrolling etc)
4. A2SD (I just read the other day, that one rom could move all apps to sd, was that just darktremor or what? If no, how does that work and which roms have it?)
Thanks in advance!
i'm use GingerLOL 1.5.2 it a bit old but all balance with good performance , no bug , good battery life try it here
+1 to GingerLol
ya, even I used GingerLol for a while and I have to say it is completely bug free and smooth performance
oxygen rom
after using cyanogen mod nightly; stock; perfect peso & new oxygen rom 2.2 i find the oxygen rom as a best performer. it is light weight; doesnt lag & has good battery life. especially with launcher pro there is no screen lag & scrolling is excellent.
only bug i have found is that switching data from 3g to 2g doesnt work. one has to disable & reenable data for 2g to start.
hope this helps

[q] cm9/ics... Why?

apart from fulfilling the need to flash new roms... what are the advantages over a stable CM7 and CM9 as it now stands?
and!! apart from it being (just?) another new rom... what will the advantages of CM9 (stable) over CM7?
Well, there are several important advantages of running CM7 instead of stock. Most notable are huge improvements in speed and battery life. I use my Atrix fairly often, including an hour or so of GBA emulation as part of my daily routine (gba games at the gym = fun cardio workout).
On CM7, my battery generally lasts at least 24 hours despite games and other moderate usage. And when I use it lightly, I've actually gone a day, a night and another day on multiple occasions without charging. Note that this is while 3G is turned on and push notifications/update intervals are at default values.
And as I mentioned, speed. The speed improvement is huge.
CM9 (which I'm using now, Beta 0.1.0) improves speed even more, has about the same battery life and a hugely improved interface. The new gmail app is fantastic, and the stock browser is much better. There are really big updates all around the board. If you get CM9, make sure you get Joker's build with the 2D fix.
I've been on the Ba2TF build for quite some time now is the joker build as stable?
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
I've been running jokers build daily for quite some time. It is still a tad glitchy, but all main components including the camera work. Most issues lay with the 2d, but he us doing an amazing job at popping out fixes quickly. Battery life, for me at least, blows any GB rom out of the water, which is why I'm not going back.

As I mentioned above the battery life seems night and day from CM7, under light use my battery will last 2 days on jokers build, 17 hrs was my best on CM7.
I also find it to be quite snappy for being in a very early beta stage, my cfbench score is beating my friends Amaze 4g overclocked to 1.7
Give it a try, its in my opinion the best rom our atrix has going for it.

I'll be going over to CM9 as soon as the next version is released. I'm trying to wait as much as possible so I can get a stable version.
Jokersax CM9, Faux 1.0GHz 025 CM9 kernel with mild UV, ADW-EX, and 37P radio. Running smooth as a snail trail with great battery life!
Daily driver now.
ICS by Jokersax runs very smooth, I have Faux123 1gHZ cm9 running as well as nova launcher beta. I recommend Nova launcher over Stock launcher by Trebuchet. Battery lasts way longer than Gingerbread'blur roms.
