If they change the architectural software structure of Ice-cream(2.4 or 3.1?) then no it would not upgrade, But I would bet a dollar the phone will be able to handle at least 2 or 3 more upgrades before software and apps will require a larger ram and duo core cpu
BTW way to the other posting....... froyo, gingerbread etc are the code names they gave each version of android....... 2.2, 2.3 etc
i have this rom gingerbread 2.3 from another forum but im a noob how do i flash

Not true because someone I know got it on their phone and told me to come to this site to do it. Thats where got it from. Might have to ask this person on exact instructions how he did it.

Well either you or he was confused. There's more than a couple Gingerbread themes out there, but thats all they are is themes. There is one EXPERIMENTAL Gingerbread build out, but as such, its not stable and could not be used daily.
Its being worked on, but Samsung has not even released the 2.2 source yet. When that happens, maybe some doors will be opened in that direction.
But as of right now there is NO stable Gingerbread rom, no matter what your friend told you. If there was you would have gotten actual help, instead of some of the less serious responses.

OP the gingerbread rom can be found in the development forum.

So, once I get to the development forum how do I get it and install it on my phone ? Thanks for the information and help. Appreciate it.
Hello everyone. Sorry if this throws everything outta wack but i need some help. So my friend finally made the switch from apple to android and he got a fascinate. He had it flashed to cricket and everything works it just freezes up a lot because hes using a crappy froyo rom. I need to know if i root and install ics on it will that remove the carrier flash and switch it back to verizon? If so can anyone tell me how to root and install ics without removing the cricket service? If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. I have been searching for days how to do it but i still cant find anything. Please help me restore my friends faith in the wonderful world that is android.

Hi there
I am struggling to find some info regarding the stock messaging app. Does this app lag scrolling up and down through conversations? This is the problem I have, you can see the screen tearing while you scroll slowly up and down, which is horrible and no matter if I try to do a factory reset (using kies or flashing firmware with odin) the issue will not get fixed. I think Jellybean has broken this app.
Does everyone think the same? I am 90 percent sure that this did not happen on ICS? please heeelllpp

I do agree that the ICS messaging works faster than that of JB's. It is a stock thing, so I believe there is no fix yet? Tsk

So you did notice the ics app faster and smoother. I was really confused because there were 2 updates and I couldn't find out which one messed it up. I don't think there is a fix yet. I only asked Samsung and they told me to call the S3 support but I didn't.
I do believe there are going to be more updates for the S3 even another version of Android which hopefully will fix it. I did ask a few people but theu said their messaging app worked fine but I think they didn't notice what I meant or they wouldn't care too much.
You can install jkays framework on stock odexed Rom and then with his deluxe settings app (paid) you can lock dialler and contacts in memory,.......regarding the tearing whilst scrolling, this nearly always happens when you have an accumulation of too many messages I keep my inbox pretty clean and never experience any tearing

Slaphead: I am talking about a few mesaages not a huge list; I have tried a lot of things which will never work. Unfortunately have to live with it until Samsung releases an update I think they must be aware of this? I wonder if any of the developers around here knows what is the issue and if anyone has implemented a fix on any other roms.
Try this...go developer options and check "force gpu rendering"

I had two failed updates when I was trying to install jelly bean OTA, then i found the stock 4.1.2 flashable rom and just used that to update. This was not upload and provided by me, it was uploaded by SnowLeopard so I take no credit for it. Just found it useful so I thought I would provide it for others. It is different the debloated one he has up. I did not not wipe anything and just installed the ROM since typically that works when updating from stock to stock but I would not recommended it. Anyways hope this helps some people.

If you didn't create it, why are you posting it? Seriously, I have seen devs leave XDA for this same exact reason. It has already been posted in his thread. You have no business creating threads in the android development section if you are not a developer.

It is still not his place and he didn't get permission. This is one of the most offensive things someone can do on XDA. If he posted a link to Snow's post in the general section, then it would have been okay. Like I said, I have seen devs leave XDA for this sole reason. It's just plain RUDE. You can tell people about a ROM without creating your own development thread and directly linking to the download page. This was the complete wrong way of doing it.

Yeah it's not okay, but there's no reason to blow up like that, I mean the guy has 20 posts. We can just let him know that this isn't the way to go about it and to not do it again. I'm sure he has learned his lesson. Just imagine how many problems could be solved if everyone was civil and calmed down.

I agree but my post definitely wasn't overboard or "blown up". No name calling, no foul language and I made all my points. I even said how it can be prevented in the future. I'm sure it won't happen again and we can move one. Also, when ever he sees the replies, I suggest changing the link to the one I provided to give proper credit.

Firstly, if you havent developed it, anything that is, then dont post in the Development sections.
Secondly, if this is a Stock Optimus G ROM (as in completely stock no modifications) then SnowLeopard does not own it nor can he stop others from using it.
Inversely, if he has modified it with his own modifications, he can.
Agreed that OP should not have posted it like this especially since the zip in the first post is missing the radio that SnowLeopardJB said should be flashed together.
SnowLeopardJB said:
If anyone wants to test this out, this zip should work. From initial testing, it seems to be working fairly well. There may be some issues with wifi dropping connection, but I cannot tell if that is rom specific or just the jellybean issue.

Just a heads up, flashing the radio from here is needed, or some things, like wifi, will not work.

I think that you can find your firmware on sammobile and flash it on Odin . but i dont think that flashing another modem will unlock your device , that can even cause damage to your device . Dont try to flash zip from another model in any situation

You don't need to downgrade your rom. You can flas a modem even if you don't have root. If you have a custom recovery than just flash the modem.

Better off to say Touchwiz sucks as opposed to 4.1.2 sucks. There are 2 developers that still work 4.1.2 and your going to come off real ungrateful for their efforts. There is not a thing wrong with their ROMs. You just have to know how to fine tune them to your needs. Don't bash them if you can't do it. Just don't run them.

Ok. Don`t know about unlocking stuff. Here is a thread where you can find some stock Roms. The first one is 4.0.3.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647756
Just flash the J2 modem and follow the steps.
I had to replace my main board, so I took the ota update, then rooted, then realized I didn't unlock. So I flashed the J2 modem, unlocked, and kept that modem. It didn't do any better than the new modem that came with the update.
This thread turned pretty nasty for such a basic question.
